Minister of Education,Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, will declare the opening of the forum.
Festivities will be heightened by the musical collaboration of Shakuhachi player Dozan Fujiwara and the
Kyoto Symphony Orchestra String Quartet and also Naoko Tosa’s video art featuring works by Ikebana
artist Ryuho Sasaoka.

‐Main Hall of ROHM Theatre Kyoto
Keynote addresses will be given by a variety of prominent figures from Japan and abroad with expertise in
culture and art. The "Kyoto Declaration (provisional name)" will also be announced, creating opportunities
for the promotion of culture in the lead-up to 2020 and issuing a positive message to the world that Japan is
establishing a “Nation Based on Culture and the Arts.”

‐ Miyakomesse
Kyoto cuisine and other traditional dishes will be served for participants to
experience the quintessence of traditional Japanese cuisine listed by
UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

- Myoshinji-Temple
With the cooperation of the World Economic Forum, WFSC welcomes three world-renowned
Crystal Awardees to Kyoto for a special workshop in the main hall of Taizo-in at the Myoshinji
Temple complex, the biggest Zen temple in Japan, where the famed swordsman Musashi Miyamoto,
author of Gorin no Sho (The Book of Five Rings), practiced swordsmanship and Zen some 400 years
ago.
After experiencing the tradition and spirit that are rooted in the Kyoto lifestyle, and the keys to the
strength of successful businesses based in Kyoto, the Crystal Awardees will deliver keynote speeches,
which will be followed by discussions on the topics of cultural exchanges between Japan and the
world and new business models will be held among the participants – business leaders and
practitioners, including those who are well-versed in Kyoto’s traditional culture and industry and have
developed their own progressive businesses.

Angélique Kidjo
Three-time Grammy Award winner Angélique
Kidjo is one of the greatest artists in international
music today, a creative force with thirteen albums to
her name. Time Magazine has called her "Africa's
premier diva". The BBC has included her in its list
of the continent's 50 most iconic figures, and in
2011 The Guardian listed her as one of their Top
100 Most Inspiring Women in the World. Forbes
Magazine has ranked Angelique as the first woman
in their list of the Most Powerful Celebrities in
Africa. She is the recent recipient of the prestigious
2015 Crystal Award given by the World Economic
Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
As a performer, her striking voice, stage presence
and fluency in multiple cultures and languages have
won respect from her peers and expanded her
following across national borders. Kidjo has crosspollinated the West African traditions of her
childhood in Benin with elements of American
R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from
Europe and Latin America.
Angelique also travels the world advocating on
behalf of children in her capacity as a UNICEF and
OXFAM goodwill Ambassador. She created her
own charitable foundation, Batonga, dedicated to
support the education of young girls in Africa.

Anant Singh
Anant Singh is the producer of more than 80 films,
including: Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Academy
Award® Nominee, Yesterday; The First Grader; Red
Dust; Cry, The Beloved Country; Sarafina and most
recently Remember and Shepherds and Butchers.
Singh is the recipient of numerous awards including the
Lifetime Achievement Golden Horn Award at the
inaugural South African Film and Television Awards, and
the first Simon 'Mabhunu' Sabela Lifetime Achievement
Award from the KwaZulu Natal Film Commission;
inaugural Lionel Ngakane Lifetime Achievement Award
from the RapidLion Film Festival; KwaZulu Natal Top
Business Personality Of The Year Award which was
awarded for the first time in 2016; Lifetime Member
Award from the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and the
World Visionary Award of the Palm Beach Film Festival.
In 2001, he has received the Crystal Award, Professor
Klaus Schwab, President of the World Economic Forum
said, "Anant Singh's significant commitment to recording
South African history and his life-long engagement for
social justice are exemplary and distinguished him clearly
for the Crystal Award."
He has been bestowed with Honorary Doctorates from the
University of Port Elizabeth; University of Durban
Westville and the Durban University of Technology.
In August 2016, elected as a member of the International
Olympic Committee.

Tan Swie Hian
Recognized as a cultural icon in Singapore and the top-grossing living artist in Southeast Asia,A graduate
from the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, Nanyang University (Singapore), he is a
quadrilingual linguist proficient in Englsih, Chinese, French and Malay.
Tan has published 59 titles of poetry, prose, stories, songs, criticism, translations and artworks. He has
held 23 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions worldwide. He has won 29
accolades nationally and internationally including Singapore Cultural Medallion (1987), the Singapore
Meritorious Service Medal (2003), Gold Medal of Salon des Artistes Francais (Paris 1985), Gold Medal of
Korea-Japan World Cup International Calligraphy Exhibition (Seoul 2002), Officier de l’Ordre National
de la Legion d’Honneur (France 2006), Marin Sorescu International Poetry Prize (Romania 1999). In 2003,
he has received the Crystal Award, as the first Singaporean, from the Forum on acknowledge and
celebrate the role of arts and culture in fostering global understanding.
Three private museums dedicated to his creations: Tan Swie Hian Museum (Singapore), Zheng Yun Lou
(Singapore) and Tan Swie Hian Earth Art Museum (China). His oil & acrylic painting When the Moon is
Orbed fetched US$3 million at Poly’s Autumn Auction 2012 in Beijing, and in 2014, his ink painting
Bada Shanren fetched US$3.3 million at the same auction, making him the highest-paid living artist in
Southeast Asia.

Recreating the reception prepared by Iemitsu, the third
Tokugawa shogun, to welcome Gomizunoo, the Emperor at the
time
‐Nijo Castle, World Heritage site
Guests are invited to enjoy a space that recreates the
hospitality of 400 years ago, strolling the grounds of
Ninomaru Palace while viewing ikebana and tea
ceremony performances and traditional
Japanese performing arts such as Nogaku in the
Ninomaru Garden, a designated Special Place of Scenic
Beauty that is lit up for the occasion.

Ikuko Kawai Violin Concert ~Oriental Opera~
‐Nijo Castle, World Heritage site
“Violin Muse” Ikuko Kawai’s passionate performance surpassing
the boundary of classic music will enliven the autumn air at Nijo
Catsle. The concert will showcase the fantastic fusion of the East
and West with the violin and Oriental Instruments.
