PITTSBURGH DETAILS
For things to do in Pittsburgh, go online: to www.visitpittsburgh.com. US News & World Report ranked Pittsburgh as the 14th most affordable
destination in the US and Nerdwallet.com ranked Pittsburgh as the 10th best city in the country for recreational activities. Gogobot.com includes
Pittsburgh as their #5 choice in the top 15 rising star destinations and Jetsetter.com chose Pittsburgh as one of the best world-wide destinations
in 2013. Forbes.com ranked Pittsburgh as one of the 10 unexpectedly romantic cities in the world. Farmers Insurance and Sperling's Best
Places named Pittsburgh as the 3rd most secure major city in America.
Fun things to do include: (1) riding the 130-year-old Duquesne Incline to the top of Pittsburgh's Mount Washington; (2) taking in a Pirates
baseball game overlooking Pittsburgh's skyline at PNC Park; (3) reaching out and touching pop art in The Andy Warhol Museum's room of
"Silver Clouds;" (4) visiting Water's Edge at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium; (5) shopping ‘til you drop at Prime Outlets in Grove City, one
of America's top 10 outlet centers with over 140 favorite brand names stores; (6) taking a tour by land or by river; (7) saying "Cheese" in front of
the world's largest Big Mac at the Big Mac® Museum Restaurant; (8) seeing all things related to birds at the National Aviary Museum;
(9) getting tickets to CLO's summer Broadway productions in Pittsburgh's Cultural District; (10) eating and drinking in Pittsburgh's South Side;
and (11) learning at the Heinz History Center, Carnegie Science Center, and more museums (including a Children’s Museum) more than you
will have time to retain. There are lots free to do. Check out: www.livingpittsburgh.com.
CLIMATE: Average August temperatures range from highs of 81º F to lows of 61º F with some humidity.
DRESS CODE: With the exception of the Championships banquet on Saturday evening, the dress code for all NTDC & NSVDC attendees is
casual. All Contestants must wear the recognized uniform of their motor carrier while they are competing throughout the event. Semi-formal
attire is appropriate for the Banquet on Saturday evening.
AIRPORT SHUTTLE BUS: There is an airport shuttle bus that provides convenient transportation between the Westin and the airport. The
shuttle runs 24 hours a day and advance reservations are required. Call 1-800-258-3826 or visit www.supershuttle.com to make a reservation.
The cost is $24-$26 one way or $46-$50 roundtrip.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: The Port Authority of Allegheny County has more than 875 buses, 83 light rail vehicles and the Monongaheal
and Duquesne Inclines to make getting around Pittsburgh quick and easy. Riding Port Authority will save money on car rentals, parking fees, and
gas. The light rail system and three dedicated busways will help you to avoid traffic congestion and alleviate the tension associated with driving
in an unfamiliar city. For low fares and schedules, go to: www.portauthority.org/paac/default.aspx.
TAXI SERVICES: Taxi service is available by Yellow and Checker Cab (412) 321-8100, or the nearest hotel or Downtown cab stand. Average
fare from the airport to the convention center area is $45-$55/one way.
WATER TAXI: The Port of Pittsburgh Commission offers a water taxi service during the summer, with stops at the Convention Center, the Point
area, PNC Park, Heinz Field / Carnegie Science Center, and Station Square.
HOTEL AREA TRANSPORTATION: Both the Westin and Doubletree hotels offer a complimentary shuttle service to downtown locations with a one mile
radius Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 11 PM. Contact the front desk for more details.
PARKING: The Westin Hotel has parking at a daily rate of $20/day for self-parking and $24/day for valet parking with in & out privileges. Omni William Penn
offers self-parking at a daily rate of $14/day (M-F) and $5/day (Sat.-Sun) and valet parking with in & out privileges at $29/day. Valet parking within &
privileges is available at the Courtyard Marriott at $22/day and at the Doubletree at $22/day (limited offsite). The Convention Center has 24-hour self-parking
from $5 for two hours up to $20 for 24-hours. There is also offsite parking one block away (11th & Penn) for $13 per day and five blocks away (15th &
Smallman) for $6 per day. Prices are subject to change.
