alan among fifteen songwriters
nominated for induction into nashville
songwriters hall of fame
f
ive highly successful artists and ten songwriters whose work has been recorded by some of the
biggest names in popular and country music have been nominated for one of the nation’s highest
songwriting honors — induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Larry Gatlin, Amy Grant and Townes Van Zandt are the 2011 nominees
in the Songwriter/Artist category. John Bettis, Robert Byrne, J.J. Cale, Jan Crutchfield, Mark James,
Dan Penn, Gretchen Peters, Thom Schuyler, Allen Shamblin and John Scott Sherrill are the Songwriter
category nominees.
“This is an amazing group of songwriters and songwriter/artists,” said John Van Mol, chair of the
Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation (NaSHOF), which owns and administers the Nashville
Songwriters Hall of Fame. “Every one of them is extremely worthy of induction, and it is our honor to
place each of their names in nomination.”
Van Mol said the ballot seeks to recognize songwriters whose first significant works achieved
commercial success and/or artistic recognition at least 20 years ago and who have “positively impacted
and been closely associated with the Nashville Music Community and deemed to be outstanding and
significant.” This year’s inductees will be announced in the coming weeks before the dinner, he added.
Votes are cast by Hall of Fame members and Professional Songwriter members of the Nashville
Songwriters Association International (NSAI), as well as the boards of the NaSHOF and NSAI.
Two Songwriters and one Songwriter/Artist will be inducted at the NaSHOF’s annual Hall of Fame
Dinner and Induction Ceremony to be held Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Tickets
for the event will go on sale in late August.

fanreview
JANET ECHARD
Harrisville, WV
May 22, 2010
I
have been trying to write this fan review for months. What can I say about Alan? His fans and his
music says it all. Alan was born with a gift from God. He was sent to help people with heartache, bad
times and tragedy in their lives. When you listen to his music, you cry, scream, laugh and it just makes
you feel better—which no doctor can do.
My daughter stayed up past midnight to order tickets through the fan club for the concert May 22,
2010 in Charleston, WV. Alan donated the profits from the concert to the coal miners’ families who lost
their loved ones at the Montcoal mining disaster in West Virginia. Alan has a big heart. It was a very
special concert.
Everyone was screaming “Alan. Alan.” He came out, and the crowd just went wild screaming. He said
we are here to honor the ones that lost their lives or were injured, and
we are gonna celebrate their lives with some country music. He started
singing and everybody sang along with him. I love the way Alan talks,
walks, the sparkle in his eyes, and that little grin that he has. It’s like
he would love to play a joke on you.
His concerts just keep getting better. He sure hasn’t slowed down
any. I love the way he strolls across the stage waving and touching the
fans. The show was awesome. I think everybody felt the pain that the
families were going through. When Alan sang “Sissy’s Song,” I don’t
think there was a dry eye at the concert. It makes a person know
that our lives can change in a heartbeat. He made the families of the
disaster feel special through the video tribute of the men lost in the
disaster. It was such an honor for Alan to do this. It just goes to show
what a wonderful person he is.
Alan cares about the working men and women. They are the ones
that keep this country going. “Where I Come From” is such a great song. I love the video he shows of
the people and places in Charleston, WV.
When Alan left the stage, everybody was screaming, “Alan. Alan.”—clapping, whistling and stomping
the floor. He came back out and sang more of his great songs. He ended his concert with “Great Balls of
Fire,” which brought the place down. It was awesome! He sang over two hours. When you leave an Alan
Jackson concert, you can’t wait until you see him again. I have been a member of the fan club since 1990
and will be until I die.
