2007 Season Outlook
Our goal this season is to make it to playoffs. With the addition of outstanding freshman to the squad, the Lady Warriors are working toward a play-off berth in April.
Power and strength come together for the 2007 Lady Warrior Softball Team this year. We have a roster of quality athletes who combine talent with positive attitudes.
This season, the softball team is looking forward to a
strong showing in season play, and expects to be a strong
competitor in the South Coast Conference.
Tournaments at Golden West College and Santa Barbara
City College will surely test the Lady Warriors. Both tournaments attract the top teams in the state, providing tough
competition that will surely prepare them for conference play.
The team anticipates extraordinary things from its three
returning players: Kacey Martinez, Steph Meza and Ashley
(GoGo) Gomez who bring depth, leadership, and experience
to the team.
Sophomore Kacey Martinez will lead off our offensive
punch. Last year as a freshman she earned First Team All
Conference honors. She was also named to the All Tournament team at the Golden West Tournament. Kacey covers a
lot of ground in centerfield. She is sure to produce plenty of
runs and will be a definite threat on the bases. Kacey also is
a great team player!
Also returning is Steph Meza. Last season she was
an integral part of the team’s offense. Steph is the team’s
utility player. She is comfortable in any position and she plays
them well. Steph’s offensive power will produce a lot of runs
for the Warriors this season. Steph has a wonderful attitude
and plays hard every game.
Another sophomore is GoGo Gomez. Due to an ankle injury, GoGo will red shirt this season. Tough break for the
Lady Warriors and GoGo.
Amber Angel of St. Monica High Scholl is going to be a
great addition to this year’s team. Amber’s bat will definitely
produce a lot of runs this season. She works hard, has a
great attitude and loves to play this game. She will
play shortstop and share pitching duties this season.
4
Another exciting addition to the team is freshman Vanessa
Spychaj from San Pedro High School. Vanessa’s ability to
swing the bat will add to our offensive punch. She is also a
tough defensive player. This season she will take over the duties at first base.
Freshman Lisa Omoto of South Torrance will play right field
this season. A left-handed slapper, she is sure to produce
plenty of runs this season. Lisa too, will cover a lot of ground
in the outfield.
Ginger Martinez from Carson High will pitch for the Warrior squad this season. Ginger swings the bat with a lot of
power and will collect quite a few RBI’s. When she is not pitching, Ginger will play third base.
Nicki Domingo from Mary Star had to red shirt last
year. Now, through hard work she is strong and ready to go.
Nicki has a good stroke with her bat and will be a tough out
in the line-up. She will spend some time at third base and in
the outfield.
Freshman, Eileen (Bean) Garnreiter from West Virginia will
play second base this season. She works hard and always
has a positive attitude.
Natalia Trites of Rolling Hills Prep will add much energy to
our defense. She has great range at the second base position. She will also spend some time behind the plate.
Kellie Randolph, a freshman from North Torrance High,
will spend some time in the outfield. She works hard and has
a wonderful attitude.
Freshman Jennifer Delgado of South Gate High will share
the duties at first base. Jennifer also always displays a great
attitude.
Ali DiBernardo from Mary Star will be a utility player this
season. She hustles and is a great team player.
Freshman Dovie Tuli of Gardena High School will spend
some time behind the plate. Her bat speed will add to the
team’s offensive punch.
Blair Brooks of Culver City High will red shirt this season
due to a fractured ankle. Losing Blair in the line-up was certainly a tough break for the Lady Warriors.
Susie Calderon - head coach
Susie Calderon begins her seventh season as the head coach of the El
Camino College women’s softball program. Calderon began her collegiate softball career at Golden West College. She competed for two years, winning backto-back Junior College National Championships. After Golden West College,
Susie received a softball scholarship from Arizona State University, where she
competed for two years and earned her bachelor of science in physical education. She went on to earn her master’s degree in administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix.
Before arriving at El Camino College, Susie was the head coach at Marina High School in Huntington Beach. During her tenure there, she guided her
team to a CIF Division 1 championship. The California Interscholastic Federation, the Orange County Register, and First Interstate Bank have named her
“Coach of the Year.” Susie was named Sunset League Coach of the Year four of
her eight seasons at Marina High School.
Randi Berg - assistant coach
Randi Berg begins her third season coaching El Camino College
women’s softball. She brings a wealth of softball experience to the program.
Randi played for the Orange County Batbusters for six years. She has been an
All-American while competing in ASA softball. She received a full scholarship
from California State University, Fresno. While competing for the Bulldogs, Randi
was named All-Conference and All-Region for the Western Athletic Conference
as a shortstop. She also competed on the National Team USA. Randi also played
in the Women’s Professional Softball League. In her first year as a pro, the
Georgia Pride drafted her. Her second year, she played for the Florida Wahoos.
While playing for the Wahoos they went on to win the World Series Championship. Randi will be competing in the Professional Fastpitch Xtreme Tour
(www.pfxtours.com) with her twin sister, Laura, a member of the United States
Olympic softball team (www.usasoftball.com).
