FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
EVERYONE IS WELCOME
Family membership is defined as two adults
and their dependent children under age 18 who
live in the same household, and children under
the age of 26, residing at home or in college
with proper ID.
The YMCA Financial Assistance program is
another way the Y fulfills our mission to serve
all people. At the Y, no one is turned away for
an inability to pay. The Y provides financial
assistance to youth, families and individuals
who do not have the resources to pay the full
membership or program fee. Assistance is
provided for qualifying participants. Questions
regarding financial assistance should be
directed to Barb Herman, Membership Manager
at 412-741-9622 ext. 131, or Kaylyn Brice,
Child Care Account Manager at 412-741-9622
ext. 119.
College membership is defined as a full-time
student up to age 26.
All new or renewing members age 18 and over
will be required to provide photo identification.
Proper forms of identification may include a
license, passport, military, student or state
identification card.
YOU CAN HELP!
CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT FEE
Financial Assistance, supported by the Annual
Campaign, offers programs and services of the
Y to those in need. In 2014, the Sewickley
Valley YMCA awarded $400,677 to individuals
and families in need. Over the last five years,
financial assistance provided by the Sewickley
Valley YMCA doubled.
The Y believes that members are co-owners of
this organization. As a co-owner, each member
is asked to pay a one-time joining fee as a
mission investment. These dollars are primarily
used for non-expansion capital improvements
like new equipment, building repairs and
preventive maintenance.
Generous support of our donors allow us
to continue to meet the growing needs of
the community. Working families received
affordable state-licensed child care so they
could work. Kids attended summer camp
where they grew in confidence, learned to
swim and made memories. Families of all
walks of life relied on our Y to live healthier.
The fee may be paid in full at the time of
joining or divided equally over a three-month
period. Previous members who re-join within
a three-year time frame will pay a rejoining
fee of $100 for family and single parent family,
and $75 for adult and senior memberships.
Members rejoining beyond the three-year time
frame will be required to pay the full Capital
Development Fee.
Help support the community with a
tax-deductible donation or designate the
Sewickley Valley YMCA as your charity of
choice United Way #286 to help those in need!
For more information about donating to the
YMCA, contact Amy Richardson at
412-741-9622 ext. 108.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
SEWICKLEY CHILD CARE AND EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Y strives to meet your child’s
individual needs by ensuring enthusiasm
and excitement for learning and positive
attention. At the Sewickley Valley YMCA
we utilize The Creative Curriculum with a
focus on S.T.E.A.M. or Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, and Math. Our staff strive
to teach your child in the most effective
way possible while leaving room for fun
and confidence building. At the Y, we hire
child care staff who are fully aware of the
partnership needed to ensure your child
has the best experience possible. The
partnership between parents and staff is
important to us. Together we are able to
provide a safe and enriching space for your
child to grow. Our child care programs are
licensed through the Department of Human
Services and we participate in the Keystone
S.T.A.R.S. quality education program.
We accept CCIS funding and offer limited
financial assistance to families who qualify.
For more information, please contact Cori
LaChapelle at 412-741-9622 ext. 143 or

PRESCHOOL CHILD CARE
Age 3-5
At the Sewickley Valley YMCA, your
child will enjoy structured learning,
independent exploration, and everyday
fun. Children will build confidence through
exploration-based curriculum that
includes S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts and Math), and ageappropriate activities. Classroom interest
areas such as the sensory table, literacy
center, science and math stations allow
your child to grow and learn at their
own pace, while enrichment classes in
music, spanish and swimming enhance
the learning environment. Our talented
and passionate staff will help your
child through the final stretch toward
kindergarten while encouraging your
child’s curiosity to learn. Our preschool
program works closely with Quaker
Valley, Ambridge, and Moon Area school
districts to evaluate the skills a child
needs to enter kindergarten so that
your child is prepared with the tools and
abilities necessary to succeed in school.
TODDLER CHILD CARE
When at the Sewickley Valley YMCA, your
child will socialize with friends and engage in
exciting lessons in a structured setting. Your
child will have the opportunity to play with
age-appropriate toys while being exposed to
S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering,
Arts and Math) in order to develop your child’s
lifelong love of learning. Each day will be
filled with learning that feels like playing in a
balanced, nurturing environment.

THE TakeFIVE INITIATIVE
Parents of children with autism often
report high levels of stress, but new research
suggests that providing a caregiver a break for
as little as one hour a week can really make a
difference in maintaining health and
well-being.
At the YMCA, children with autism can find an
outlet for fun and physical activity in a
controlled, safe environment. YMCA staff who
teach Spectrum Swim Lessons, work in the
Child Watch and lead Parents Night Out have
completed an Autism training, so parents can
feel comfortable taking some time for
themselves while their children enjoy activities
at the Y.
CHILD WATCH
Members and non-members can enjoy use of
our very popular Child Watch program that

at the Sewickley Valley YMCA, and now is a
program jointly supported through a partnership
between the Y and Heritage Valley Health
System.
Faith in Action is funded by community donations
and support from the YMCA and Heritage Valley
Sewickley Foundation.
If you’d like to make a gift to Faith in Action or
volunteer, please contact Heather Ochman at the
YMCA at 412-741-9622 ext 135 or
[email protected]; or the Heritage
Valley Sewickley Foundation at
[email protected] or 412-749-7050.
Amy, pictured above with Bonnie, is one of
nearly 140 volunteers for Faith in Action. The
flexibility and Christian theme of the Y is what
drew Amy to volunteer. Amy enjoys helping
people through the program because it takes
very little time to help someone in need and
makes a large impact in the community.

POLICIES
MAKE UP POLICY
NON-DISCRIMINATION OF SERVICES
To meet the needs and wishes of our members,
YMCA classes are tightly scheduled and often full.
We ask that you choose your programs carefully
as make-up and substitute classes are not
possible.
Services shall be provided without regard to race,
religious creed, color, disability, ancestry, national
origin, age, or sex. Services shall be made
accessible to individuals with disabilities through
the most practical and economically feasible
methods available. The Sewickley Valley YMCA will
make every effort to accommodate non-english
speaking individuals.
PRORATED CLASSES
Class fees will not be prorated for late
registrations. Late registrations are accepted in
most programs (late registration for swim lessons
is not recommended) but will require payment of
the full class fee.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Only employees of the Sewickley Valley YMCA
may provide services to members and guests
on our premises. This includes personal training,
swim instruction, sports-specific training and all
other instruction. Any member or guest believed
to be providing such a service will be advised
to discontinue the activity. Continued violation
will result in suspension or termination of
membership privileges.
THUNDER/LIGHTNING POLICY
In the event of inclement weather, including
thunder or lightning, the pool will close, and
the pool deck will be cleared. The pool area will
remain closed for 20 minutes after each flash of
lightning, and/or 20 minutes after each clap of
thunder. All patrons and staff must exit the pool
and whirlpool. Swim lessons will typically run as
scheduled and children will learn skills on the pool
deck.
PROGRAM REFUND POLICY
MEMBER CONDUCT
Caring: The Y is committed to providing a safe
and welcoming environment for every member
and guest. To promote safety and comfort for
all, we ask individuals to act appropriately at all
times when participating in Y programs at the Y
or at off-site locations.
Refunds will be issued if notice is given at least
five business days prior to the start date of the
program. All refund requests must be made
directly through the director of the program.
Refunds will be completed in the manner by which
the payment was made.
The Y reserves the right to cancel a program that
does not have the minimum enrollment.
Honesty: To carry out the Y mission, we ask
that members and guests identify themselves
to staff when asked, and be able to produce a Y
membership card or identification upon request.
Respect:
We expect persons using the Y to
behave in a mature and responsible way, and to
respect the rights and dignity of others. We do
not permit language or any action that may hurt
or frighten another person, including staff.
Responsibility:
Members and guests are
encouraged to be responsible for their personal
comfort and safety. Please report any offending
condition or behavior to a Y staff person.

TOGETHER,
WE CAN CREATE
A BETTER US
MORE OPPORTUNITIES
Last year, we awarded $400,677 to 1,341 individuals and families.
We believe that everyone in our community should have the opportunity to benefit from YMCA
programs, regardless of their financial circumstances, and your donation enables that to happen.
As we continue to meet the challenges in our community, please stand with us as we work to
make a difference for all. Make a donation today and take the first step in building a better us.
My Y Story
“The YMCA school age child care has been such a blessing to my
granddaughter and to our family! I can go to work knowing she
will be well cared for and safe until I arrive to pick her up at the
end of the day. To my husband and I, this confidence & sense
of security is PRICELESS! I don’t know what I would have done if
this program wasn’t available or if I didn’t have the financial help
offered by the scholarship program! The scholarship is such a
true blessing for those in need.”
-Rebecca, grandmother and guardian of a school age child care participant
and recipient of financial assistance.
As the only state-licensed child care provider that offers
financial assistance in the service area of Ambridge Area, Cornell, Moon Area and Quaker
Valley school districts, the Y, has become the only safety net for the working poor by
providing access to affordable, quality child care. In 2014, the Y awarded $142,068 in
financial assistance directly supporting child care tuition of 81 recipients ranging in age
from six weeks to fifth grade.
