generationCURE
In the fall of 2011, a small group of young professionals
from the fields of finance, art, media, fashion, and
entertainment came together to form generationCURE.
generationCURE founder and amfAR Trustee T. Ryan
Greenawalt recruited the committee of young people
dedicated to helping amfAR accelerate its search for a
cure for AIDS.
“We don’t want to just be the next generation of
champions for a cure for HIV/AIDS—we want to be the
last one, because we believe a cure is coming in our
lifetime,” says generationCURE National Chair John
Cafarelli.
In order to reach their target demographic of socially
aware individuals between the ages of 25 and 40,
generationCURE set three specific goals: raise
$150,000 to fund a new cure-focused research project,
expand amfAR’s social networks and harness the
power of social media, and increase HIV awareness
by fighting complacency and ignorance among young
people.
To that end, generationCURE has hosted a number of
events in New York City, Los Angeles, and Washington,
D.C. For the past three years, generationCURE has
celebrated the coming of summer with rooftop Solstice
parties and kicked off the 2014 holiday season at the
New York City hotspot Top of The Standard rooftop
lounge.
generationCURE has exceeded its goal of raising
$150,000 for amfAR and remains dedicated to its
mission: to cultivate the next, and last, generation of
amfAR champions for a cure.

amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS
Research, is dedicated to ending the
global AIDS epidemic through innovative
research. Since its founding in 1985,
amfAR has accelerated the pace of
HIV/AIDS research and contributed
to numerous breakthroughs that are
extending and saving lives around the
world.
amfAR identifies critical gaps in our knowledge of HIV/AIDS and supports
promising early-stage studies that often lack the preliminary data required
by more traditional funders.
Through its Research program, amfAR is advancing efforts to prevent HIV
infection in those who are vulnerable and to improve treatment for people living
with HIV/AIDS, with the ultimate goal of eradicating the virus.
amfAR’s TREAT Asia program is a network of clinics, hospitals, and research
institutions working with civil society to ensure the safe and effective delivery of
HIV/AIDS treatments throughout Asia and the Pacific. TREAT Asia has become a
model for regional collaboration on treatment preparedness, education, training,
and clinical research.
The GMT Initiative strives to reduce worldwide rates of HIV infection among
gay men, other men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender individuals
(collectively GMT) in developing countries by providing grants that help expand
HIV treatment access, education, and prevention. The GMT Initiative also works
to build understanding and awareness of HIV epidemics among GMT, and
advocates for effective policies and increased funding.
Informed by thorough research and analysis, amfAR is a highly respected
advocate of rational and compassionate AIDS-related public policy. The
Foundation’s Public Policy program is engaged in efforts to increase
investments in HIV/AIDS research; ensure a robust response to the global
epidemic; expand access to prevention, treatment, and care; and protect the
civil rights of all people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Through its Public Information program, amfAR generates awareness of the
need for better treatment and prevention methods, and publishes educational
