WHAT IS PREVIEW?

Preview is an introduction to a lesson that
provides information on the key components
the students will be learning

Preview can be taught using the students’
home language in order to help them better
comprehend
REQUIREMENTS

Support materials such as concrete objects,
realia, visuals, activities, graphic organizers

Opportunities for students to use prior
knowledge, background knowledge, personal
experiences to connect to new information


Following the lesson review takes place

During review, key components of the lesson
are summarized and discussed again

Support materials may be used to reiterate the
key components and vocabulary
WHAT IS REVIEW?

Review may be done in the students’ home
language

Review is ongoing and can require additional
practice as well as assessment
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE LESSON?
The teacher introduces the lesson
 Support materials can be used throughout to
help students connect to the lesson
 Teachers speak clearly and slowly using
gestures and body language
 Teachers teach lesson to make sure that
students are comprehending the material


 Allows activation of background knowledge

 Supports the learning of grade-level content as
well as the second language


 Repeat key phrases often

materials) and then move to the abstract
 Speak clearly and slowly
 Continually check for comprehension
 Build on student’s background knowledge
 Keep it fun!

