Message From Your
Principal
Greetings everyone,
I strongly encourage all our Northport families to pay very close attention to any communications that are being sent home in the coming weeks regarding budget reductions.
One of the proposals to help reduce the budget involves closing Northport and one other
elementary school and moving them to the building currently occupied by Robbinsdale
Middle School. On November 29th I sent a letter home with students that explains in detail the other elements of this proposed action. If, for any reason, you did not receive
this information, please give me a call and I will see that you get a copy.
I assure you that even while pending decisions about our school are being discussed, our
Northport staff is just as committed as ever to providing a strong academic program for
our children.
Sincerely,
Gary Chesner,
Principal

Grade 3 News:
Grade Three
The new year is upon us 2008 is hear to stay,
The old year has left us 2007 has gone away.
The students in grade three we say with some pride,
Have been working very hard taking it all in stride.
Multiplying and division have been the focus in math,
Memorizing those math facts is surely the right path.
We are learning to read fluently with smoothness and grace,
Not reading too slow or too fast, but just the right pace.
The birth of the United States we are beginning to explore,
How we became the great fifty states is what is in store.
We will write some biographies of the early pioneers,
Who built this great country on their blood, sweat, and tears.
Learning our spelling words is an assignment each week,
Becoming great spellers is a skill that we seek.
Expanding our knowledge through the books that we read,
Will increase our knowledge and power and help us succeed.
Remember to do your homework whatever is assigned,
If you don’t stay ahead you will fall way behind.
Challenges and problems are what faces third grade,
But our students are tops, there are none we will trade.
The Third Grade Team
Your Third Grade Team,
Jamie Groth(34)
Julie Hjerpe(31)
Jeff Kraft(33)
GRADE 4
4th Grade
Our fourth graders are busy as ever.

Reading: Guided or independent, it should be challenging and fun.
Social Studies: State reports are helping us research and share our findings about our chosen state.
Health: Discovering how to stay healthy our whole lives.
Science: Finishing up electricity and water, now rooms will switch units.

Robbinsdale Child Nutrition Department
The Robbinsdale Child Nutrition Department has started using the Messenger system, a completely integrated module within our student management
system, Infinite Campus, to let families know when their student’s lunch
balances are low. Every other week we will send out automated calls and/or
emails to all students that have a balance below the cost of two lunches.
Families will receive one call per student with a low balance. Payments can
be sent to school with the students or made online through PayPams. If you
have any questions regarding the message or your payment, please call the
Robbinsdale Nutrition office at (763)504-8050. Thank you.

KINDERGARTEN
It is hard to believe that we have completed the first trimester
the school year and are anticipating the start of a New Year in just a few weeks!
of
By now, most of our students are coming well-prepared for winter outdoors
with warm coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and mittens. Thank you for that! If you still
need to get some of these items for your child, please do so at your earliest convenience. As you know, the students go outdoors before lunch every day unless the temperature reaches minus 10º. This is district policy and exceptions are made only by a
doctor’s written orders.
Our winter break begins after school on the 21st of December and resumes on
Monday, January 7th.
We wish all of our students and their families Happy Holidays and a safe and
restful winter break.

GRADE 5
Happy New Year!
As we begin our second trimester, we are excited about all of the new and wonderful
things we will be learning. We are also continuing to prepare for the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments that are coming at the end of April.
We continue to go outside daily. Please make sure your children are prepared for the
cold Minnesota winter. Boots are highly recommended due to the fact that our playground is often icy and snow packed.
Thanks for all you do.
