CELEBRATIONS IN APRIL!
National Library Week, April 10-16, 2016, is a time to
celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and library
workers and to promote library use and support. From free
access to books and online resources for families to library
business centers that help support entrepreneurship and
retraining, libraries offer opportunity to all. The theme for the
2016 National Library Week is "Libraries Transform."All types
of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.
Don’t be surprised if the Library seems a little more festive
this month!
National Volunteer Week, also April 10-16, is “about inspiring,
recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways
to engage in their communities. It’s about demonstrating to the
nation that by working together, we have the fortitude to meet
our challenges and accomplish our goals,” according to their
website, http://www.pointsoflight.org/ . We have many
volunteers in the library to be thankful for and we appreciate
everything you do.
National Poetry Month is a time to celebrate
poets, read poetry and engage the community
in the art of poetry. Considered the largest
literary celebration in the world, this year marks
the 20th anniversary of setting aside the month
of April to engage in all things poetry and the
San Anselmo Library is right in the midst of the
celebrating.
The San Anselmo Library’s 13th annual Night of
Poets takes place this year on Thursday, April
21 at 7pm. If you would like to share a poem
(in 2 minutes or less) at Night of the Poets, sign
up at the Reference Desk or email
[email protected]. Night of the
Poets is a community event sponsored by the
Friends of the San Anselmo Library.
The Friends of the Library invite you to stop by Town Books and see the wonderful work by local
artist Maria Bennett and three Marin Academy photography students, on display until April 30 at
Town Books and in the Courtyard Hallway. While there, check out our selection of quality used
books – you’re sure to find a treasure! Town Books, located at 411 San Anselmo Avenue in the
back of the Courtyard, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm.

Library Teaching Garden
In 2013, the library converted an unused patch
of land near the back entrance into a beautiful
raised bed teaching garden complete with a
drip irrigation system.
In late March of this year, teen volunteer
Jasmine cleared out the weeds, prepared the
soil, and planted seeds of a variety of edible plants including lettuce, kale, carrots,
peas, broccoli, cucumbers, and pumpkins. Our herb garden and strawberries
from last year continue to flourish. If you are interested in getting involved in the
