ALASKA’S FUTURE
Want to see the leaders of tomorrow? Peek into a classroom today. At
ConocoPhillips, we understand that students need encouragement
and inspiration to reach their greatest potential. That’s why we
support education in our communities — from the mentors who spur
creativity to the playgrounds that foster teamwork. We’re proud to
help shape tomorrow’s leaders — one mind at a time.
The Journey to...
Technology Enhanced
Classrooms
It’s not quite the Journey to the Center of the Earth or even the
Journey to Africa, but it will be an Incredible Journey for students
and teachers. How can we build on their excellent foundation and
also give them the best of technology?
At Grace Christian School, we have made our school a success
without much money and without much technology. Our teachers
and principals have proven themselves in rigorously training children
to succeed in good old fashioned traditional education. The Grace
educational model is based on loving children, challenging them
hard to succeed, believing sincerely in personal responsibility,
following all the principles of God’s Word, and striving to provide an
engaging education for all. By God’s grace, our model succeeds.
15
How do we define success? 100% of Grace students are trained
daily to have a biblical worldview in each subject. 99% of Grace
students graduate on time. 95% of Grace alumni attend colleges
and universities, many of them pursuing advanced degrees. Grace
students passed 90% of their Advanced Placement Exams last spring.
With that strong foundation of success, and without losing what
we know works so well, we are now poised to excel even more by
employing proven best practices in computer-aided education.
Tonight, we are asking for your generous help along this incredible
3-stage journey. Estimates below:
Stage 1: iPads for Teachers (and Professional Development)
$35,000
Stage 2: SmartBoards for Classrooms (8-10 classrooms, infrastructure)
$35,000
Stage 3: eTextbooks for Students (infrastructure and eBook subscriptions)
$35,000
TOTAL COST:
$105,000
Thank you for your generous support to spur these education
warriors on to the best of learning.

hand crafted quilt
First grade teacher Donna George has crafted this beautiful quilt
especially for our auction tonight. The pattern, “Four Winds,”
incorporates fabrics with lush patterns and colors. Donna used
180 triangles to make black flying geese sail across the blocks of
glowing blue, green, and purple. The quilt is a log cabin variation
that glows like a stained glass window. It measures 80 x 80, perfect
for a double bed.

Port alsworth ADVENTURE
Journey Through Alaska with this package for two people. Fly to
Port Alsworth on Lake & Peninsula Air through the unforgettable
Lake Clark Pass, then jump into a Super Cub and flight-see at
lower altitudes for another 45 minutes until you arrive at the Lake
Country Lodge. Spend four days and three nights on the shores
of the beautiful and very remote South Fork of the Hoholitna River
where the fishing is terrific and the quiet is unequalled. Choose
your activities depending on the season: fishing, floating the river,
hiking, and berry-picking, or snowmachining and the sauna - it’s all
yours in the most beautiful and rugged country in the world. Sorry,
but the Lodge is blacked out for September and April for moose
and grizzly hunting season. Valid for one year.

Woolly Mammoth Ivory
with Scrimshaw
We bring you a true treasure tonight: a piece of ivory tusk from a
woolly mammoth that is up to 14,000 years old. Tastefully mounted
on a wood base, the tusk is engraved with intricate scrimshaw
done by well-known artist George Vukson. The beautifully detailed
scrimshaw shows a parade of mammoths. The brownish tone of
the ivory is characteristic of mammoth tusks, which tend to have
color from centuries of absorbing minerals in the ground. This is a
rare find, a collector’s item.
