Autumn/Winter 2014
newsletter
As the Teapot Trust enters its �ifth year, I feel now
is a good time for a moment of re�lection. It has
been an amazing journey to see the charity go from
strength to strength, supported along the way by so
many resourceful and dedicated people. There has been
laughter, tears, frustrations, celebrations and many
challenges along the way but our dedication to providing
art therapy has never wavered from our small beginning in
Edinburgh to our current programme of thirteen services.

art therapy teams, our volunteers
and many supporters (large and
small, near and far) for making the
provision of art therapy in so many
hospitals a reality.

Laura was honoured to receive an
award for her services to charity
from the Lord Provost of Glasgow
at a recent ceremony in the City
Chambers.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Following the success of the recent Halloween Toddler Time
screening, the Cameo Cinema is planning a Christmas-themed
screening. See their website for details.
The Open Eye Gallery is hosting a Christmas Private View
at the Union Plaza in Aberdeen on Dec 4, with works by
John Bellany CBE, Chris Bushe RSW, Barbara Rae CBE,
Alberto Morrocco OBE and Leon Morrocco RSA RGI.

Could it be us?
White Stuff opened a new store in Eastgate Shopping
Centre, Inverness just after the start of our pilot project
at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. They were looking for a
charity partner for their new store and we put forward
our proposal. The successful charity will be announced
after presentations on 4 December – so �ingers crossed!
Happy Birthday to us!
In the last six months we have Celebrated our second birthday at Yorkhill
hospital in May with a Story & Song session
to entertain the children from Julia and
Malcolm Donaldson (complete with Malcolm
in Gruffalo costume!).
In September, it was Ninewells turn when they celebrated
one year of art therapy by creating an incredible sun�lower
picture using handprint cut-outs decorated by the children,
parents and everyone involved at the hospital. Did you spot
the picture in our front-page montage?
On 30 October, many of our supporters attended our Birthday
Party at the George Hotel in Edinburgh when we celebrated
the 4th birthday of the charity, and announced our expansion
to Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.

Lynda Risbridger tackled the 97-mile West
Highland Way to raise over £1800 for
our service in Raigmore
Hospital,
encountering
tough terrain, changeable
weather and of course,
those arch tormentors
of all - the midgies. A
fantastic achievement!
After watching Laura receive her Tesco Charity Mum of
the Year award on Channel 5, James Hankin of Findel
Education was so moved that he called us to offer to
provide all our art materials. This means that we can direct
even more money to our art therapy services. Thank you
Findel Education for your incredible generosity!
SUPER-TRUSTEES
Not to be outdone by all our other
fundraisers, our Trustees stormed
into action this year with a variety
of events.
We’re not quite sure how he
managed it but Richard managed
to ‘encourage’ another 39 Queen
Margaret University students and staff to run with him in
the annual Hairy Haggis Team Relay at this year’s Edinburgh
Marathon, raising over £5500! Many thanks to everyone who
took part.
Katherine took a more elegant but equally demanding
approach, organising a Champagne Tea Party for 60 people,
which raised £1600 and a lot of awareness about art therapy
and the charity as a whole.
Gregor’s wife Kirsty designed our blood test video business
cards, which Gregor and Kirsty then picked up the bill for.
Thank you both!
The Yellow Jersey has to go to our co-Founder John, who has
cycled a ridiculous amount of miles. He did the Haute Route
Alps (which goes from Nice to Geneva) along with his fellow
Flying Gherkins team-mates, and cycled on behalf of CHAS
and Teapot Trust at the recent Bike Some Noise event, all at
his own expense so that 100% of the money raised comes to
us!

Christmas Appeal
Our Christmas Appeal invites you to consider an alternative gift this year – the gift of changing a child’s life – through making
a donation to the Teapot Trust.
All donations are spent on providing art therapy to children in hospital suffering from chronic illness.
We know that long term health problems can cause anxiety, anger or upset for children and their families, and may be dif�icult
to talk about. Young children don’t always have the words to describe how they feel but making art often leads to being able
to share worries non-verbally, helping children gain con�idence, feel more in control and cope with their condition.
Call 01875 812012 and we will send you a form to complete with the details of how much you would like to give, who your
gift is to be sent to and the personal message to be included. We will send one of our ‘spot-the-red-teapot’ Christmas cards
