Hornberg Streamer Fly - Fresno Fly Fishers for Conservation
Hornberg Streamer Fly Here is a streamer pattern developed by Frank Hornberg in the 1920’s. It is a favorite pattern in the Owen’s Valley lakes, such as Crowley Lake, Silver Lake and the Mammoth area lakes. Talk to Clint Thaxter about its effectiveness. This is the material list for the pattern. Hook: 3x long like a TMC 5263 Thread: Black 6/0 Body: Tinsel Silver or Gold Inner Wing: Yellow Saddle Hackle Outer Wing: Natural Barred Mallard Flank Feather Hackle: Grizzly Cock Hackle Head: Black Thread Attach the tinsel to the hook. You can put cement on the hook. Wrap back to the midpoint of the barb and back to the front and secure. Select two yellow saddle hackles, dull side out and even up the tips. Size the saddles to the hook shank. Tie the saddle hackles to the top of the hook shank. Trim the saddle hackles and make neat. Select two Mallard Duck flank feathers, convex sides in and even tips. Size the Mallard flank feathers to the hook. Place one flank feather on each side, size and secure. Place a Jungle Cock nail feather on each side. Position and secure. Secure the butts and make neat. Select and size the Grizzly hackle. Tie in the hackle stem and wrap the hackle. Secure the hackle, make a neat head and you are done.
