FRESHMEN ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
COLLEGE PREPARATORY REQUIREMENTS (A-G):
Graduation from high school and completion
of the 15 unit specific A-G high school courses
with a “C” or better.
(A) History/Social Sciences – 2 YEARS REQUIRED
* Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a four
point scale (approximately a “B” average). The
conversion of grades is determined by the Office
of Admissions and Outreach.
Two years of history/social science, including one year of
world history, culture and geography; and one year of U.S.
History or one-half year of U.S. History and one-half year of
civics or American government.
(B) English – 4 YEARS REQUIRED
Four years of college-preparatory English. No more than
one year of ESL.
(C) Mathematics – 3 YEARS REQUIRED (4 Years Recommended)
The CSU Eligibility Index (EI) is
calculated as follows:
1. (Your GPA*) x 800 + the sum of your SAT
Mathematics and Critical Reading Score
2. (Your GPA*) x 200 + (10 x ACT Composite Score)

reasoning or 842 using ACT scores.

Admissions Tests:
Take the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT by the end
of October, but NO LATER THAN December
of your senior year. Test scores should be
sent directly to the Office of Admissions
and Outreach from the testing agencies, the
College Board (collegeboard.org) or the ACT
(act.org). Cal Poly Pomona’s test code is 4082.
Three years of college-preparatory math (Algebra I,
Geometry and Algebra II, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc).
(D) Laboratory Science – 2 YEARS REQUIRED
Two years of laboratory science providing fundamental
knowledge in at least two of these three foundational
subjects: biology, chemistry and physics.
(E) Language Other than English – 2 YEARS REQUIRED
Two years of the same language other than English.
(F) Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) – 1 YEAR REQUIRED
A single yearlong approved arts course from a single
Visual Performing Arts discipline: dance, drama/theatre,
music or visual art.
(G) College-Preparatory Elective – 1 YEAR REQUIRED
One year in addition to the required in “A-F” courses
listed above.

REQUIREMENTS
The minimum requirements for graduate
admissions are outlined below:

Hold an acceptable baccalaureate
degree or its equivalent from an
accredited or internationally
recognized institution.
A three-year international
baccalaureate degree must be
accompanied by one year of
satisfactory postgraduate course
work completed at a regionally
accredited institution of higher
education. The (3+1) equivalency
to the four-year U.S. Baccalaureate
degree will be determined by Office
of Admissions & Outreach.
Be in good academic standing at last
college or university attended.
A grade point average of at least 2.50
in the last 60 semester (90 quarter)
units attempted; and
Satisfaction of the professional,
personal, scholastic and other
standards for graduate studies, which
may include qualifying examinations
and vary by academic program.
FOREIGN DOCUMENTATION
All official documents in languages other
than English must include a certified English
translation. Applicants must submit:
Freshmen: Official high school transcripts for each year of
study since the 9th grade
Transfer & Graduate: Official transcripts for each college attended
and copies of diploma/graduation certificates
Complete a minimum of 60 semester

IMPACTION
Cal Poly Pomona is impacted at the Freshmen and Transfer level. This means we receive
more applications from students than can be admitted. In an effort to maintain educational
quality for both current and prospective students, a higher GPA will be required for
transfer admission* and a higher eligibility index with additional supplementary criteria
may be applied to first-time freshmen applicants.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
As a part of the admission process, international applicants
must provide certification of financial eligibility to meet the
cost of education at Cal Poly Pomona. This certification or
affidavit is required in order for an I-20 to be issued. Estimated

All applicants, regardless of citizenship, who have not
completed at least three years of full-time enrollment at
a secondary and/or college/university-level where English
is the principal language of instruction are required to
submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
or International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
