From the Desk of Fr. Mac,
It's easy to get excited about Christmas. It's easy to get
excited about Easter. But the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity is hard to get excited about. However, with the doctrine of the Trinity, God has revealed to us that he is not
infinite loneliness, but infinite love, infinite relationship
of self-giving. The one divine nature exists fully and simultaneously in three divine Persons, the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Spirit. Sometimes this doctrine seems
pretty of abstract, something impractical for everyday
Christians. But the Trinity is actually the most practical
of all Christian doctrines, because it reveals the meaning
of our life.
We are created in God's image. And God, in the very essence of his being, is self-forgetful love, a harmonious
relationship in which the three divine Persons are knowing each other and giving to each other in a dynamic communion of love. Our happiness, since we are created in
God’s image, will flow from the same thing, from our
freely choosing to use our God-given gifts - life, talents,
resources - to build up those around us. This is what we
are created to be and to do, and only in this will we find
the happiness we long for.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we have been given the most
precious knowledge of all: the meaning of life is for us to
choose every day, in the little things and the big things,
to be better and better mirrors of the Trinity by giving of
ourselves, by building up our neighbors. This knowledge
gives us great power to face every situation with confidence and eagerness, even situations of suffering and
hardship. We can always do that, because God himself is
always helping us: "And behold, I am with you always,
until the end of the age." Our knowledge of life's true
meaning makes us torches of hope burning brightly in the
cold, dark chaos of a fallen world.
Like the Easter candle that has been burning brightly
these 50 days of Easter, we are called to pass on the light
we have received, to spread this wonderful knowledge to
everyone around us. This was Christ's final command: "Go,
therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Spirit." Today, let's thank God for giving us this
wonderful knowledge. Let's promise to do our best to use
well the great power it puts in our hands, and let's ask
the Lord to help us fulfill our call to be his messengers
better and better, starting today.
In Christ,

Special Collection
Priest Retirement Fund
Next weekend all parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles
will be asked to give generously to support the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests. At each Mass on June
6th & 7th, a second collection will be taken to benefit
this important program.
Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests
who are retired. Over the next ten years, that number is
expected to increase significantly. With minimal compensation, and in many cases, no pension, these men often
retire with nothing to fall back upon. Your contributions
can change that.
The Priest Retirement Fund offers us a way to give back
to our Catholic priests who have served us so faithfully.
Your contribution will help archdiocesan priests live modestly and peacefully in retirement.
Help us offer thanks for their years of devotion to God,
and faithful service to our parish communities.
Look for the brochures in the pews next weekend for
more information.
Pre-Baptism Class - June 1
The next monthly pre-baptism training class for parents
and godparents will be held Monday, June 1st, from
7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please park on Haskell Avenue
and enter the walk-through gate adjacent to the Faculty
Lounge where class will be held. The next Baptisms will
be on the second Sunday of the month, June 14th, at
2:00 p.m. For details call: 818-981-2280.
Our 3rd Annual Alumni Mass and Reception will be on Saturday, August 1st. All
graduating classes (1955-2015) and their
families are invited. Please join us for a
special Mass, followed by a reception in
the Hall. We encourage each class to
plan their own reunion activities following the reception. Donations are appreciated and for all school parents, volunteer hours will be given for the 2015-2016
school year. If you are in touch with alumni, please give
us
their
email!
Contact
[email protected] regarding any and all details.
Father's Day is June 7th. If you would like to help us
celebrate our Dads, please contact [email protected]. We are planning a few fun
things. Again, volunteer school hours for the 2015-2016
school year will be given.
We are happy to announce that F.R.O.G.'s (Fully Rely On
God), our children's Sunday liturgical group, will be in full
swing during the summer months, along with refreshments, at and after 10am Mass.
Would you like to be a friendly face of St. Cyrils? Fr. Mac
is putting together a Hospitality Ministry to welcome new
parishioners and tell them all about our Parish. If you
would like to be a part of this special group, please contact the rectory.
Please join us for refreshments today after 10am Mass in
the grotto. Have a nice week !

This is the last week of school for the Class of 2015. They
will be graduating on Thursday evening. Eleven of the
students in the Class of 2015 have been at St. Cyril since
PK. We are very proud of our Graduates who will be attending Notre Dame, Crespi, Louisville, Chaminade, Bishop Alemany, Providence and Loyola.
On Monday, June 1st, at 7:45 am, we will have a dedication of memorials for two beloved long time teachers at
St. Cyril, Ms. Toni Stolo and Mrs. Rene Smith. Both teachers were at St. Cyril for over twenty years and both are
now enjoying the fruits of their labor in heaven!
St. Cyril School is still accepting applications for all grades
for the 2015 -2016 school year. Please call the school office to schedule a tour. (818-501-4155).
