While sitting here on a rainy Sunday, I am reminded of
that great Kinks song which Jimmy covered, Lazing on a
Sunny Afternoon and so yes, I took a little latitude with
the lyric, but it seems to fit. It has been a long time since
I have just kicked back with little to do so it has been a
welcome change. So welcome in fact, that I am actually getting this column done
early…well early for me!
Upcoming happenings in the club include elections. Yes, it’s that time of year again. If
you are considering running for one of the 3 seats up for election, we need your letter
of intent no later than 04/15/2012. We will introduce the candidates at the May meeting and voting will take place at the June meeting with terms beginning July 1. I hope
you will consider throwing you hat in the ring and help shape the future of PHCOT.
Looking down the road, we have a new opportunity for community service this year. We
will be participating in the first annual Vision Walk on May 6th in Virginia Beach. This
event supports the Foundation Fighting Blindness. For more information on this event,
go to www.fightblindness.org and look for information on the Virginia Beach walk. If you
search by walker for Jenifer Banks, you can actually make a donation to our member and
team lead on this event, Jennifer Banks.

If you didn’t make it out to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ocean View last month, you
missed an excellent time! We gave away 2,000 leis to kids along the route and had a ball
doing it! Thanks to Win Winslow for providing the excellent music on the float. I will
have to say, though, there are a few songs that if I don’t hear for awhile, that will be
OK!
Well, in the interest of not rambling on and on, I will close here. Be sure to look
throughout the newsletter and website for upcoming happenings. Also, stay up to date
by making sure we have your correct e-mail info so you can be subscribed to the yahoo
group.
See you next month…

DJ Jeff Fund
DJ Jeff Allen needs your help. He is in a fight for
his life and the Parrot Head Nation is stepping up
to show its support. Jeff was recently diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer; it was discovered during a
routine exam, and hopefully very early.
DJ Jeff is a fixture in the trop rock world. His
award winning radio show, and internet radio station, promote the trop rock genre, the singers and
songwriters that bring us all together, and numerous Parrot Head events around the country.
BeachFront Radio's friends at Phins To the West
have created the "Keep Trockin' For DJ Jeff"
fund to help relieve some of the stress over the
mounting medical bills. Purple wrist bands with the
inscription "Keep Trockin' For DJ Jeff" are
available for a $5 donation.
Built to Last employees showing their support for
DJ Jeff Allen. Please consider making a $5 donation to show your support for Jeff and all he has
done for the Parrot Head Nation.
Check out the growing wall of photos at
www.beachfrontradio.com - it will give you an idea
of how much Jeff means to the Parrot Head Nation.
Bracelets will be available for a $5 donation at the
April club meeting. For additional information contact Rick [email protected]

At every meeting we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the

a canned good or a box of noodles and help out your neighbors in the
Hampton Roads community. (Please keep items health-canned fruits,
canned vegetables, peanut butter, etc. No snack items, please!)

PITCH IN!
Denyse Jenner will be
collecting pop-tops for
Ronald McDonald House
at every club meeting!
Everyone Needs A Little Sunshine!
Occasions arise in everyone’s lives
where they might need some good old
fashioned Parrot Head love. Please let
Denise Bordeau (479-4988 ) know
about weddings, births, hospital stays,
etc. so that we can reach out to our
members in need of some sunshine!
Help out our phurry and pheathered phriends! At every
meeting we will be collecting items for the SPCA. Items
needed include food, litter, birdseed, biscuits, old newspapers
and old towels. Items collected will be sent to the Virginia
Beach SPCA.
