“Changing Channels” That’s right folks, this month it’s all about change. Over the years I
have learned the old adage “the only thing that stays the same is change” is true. In fact, some days it seems
more true than others. Well, the time of change is upon us once again. I am talking about election time. As
most of you know, each year, we elect 4 members of the Board to a 2 year term. We do candidate introductions in May and elections in June. April is traditionally the time we accept letters of intent to run for a
Board seat. Currently, there are NO NEW APPLICANTS to the Board. I know that not everyone is suited to
run for the Board, but historically, we also have had issues with the number of members who vote. How sad
it will be if apathy takes over and people stop caring enough to keep the club going!
—————
Apathy can be a dangerous thing. Last month I asked our members to contribute some small thing to the
newsletter. Maybe bring back some of the old columns we used to have. So far, I don’t believe that has happened. I understand that life gets in the way, but if we all sit around thinking that someone else will take care
of it, it’s a good chance it won’t get taken care of!

We have said time and again that this is YOUR CLUB. I know people care because they continue to come
out every month and support all of the things we do for the community. Let’s make sure the energy perpetuates and the club stays on track.

PLEASE HANG ON WHILE I CLIMB DOWN OFF MY SOAPBOX…
OK…on to the fun stuff! We are starting something new on the Social side of the house. Our Social Director, Graham Hallowes is stepping down to take some much deserved time off. Please join me in thanking
Graham for all of his hard work to keep things moving on the social side of the club. WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT, GRAHAM! Moving ahead, rather than have a set committee, we are going to ask someone each
month to set up a social in a particular city. This way, the socials will be moving all over Hampton Roads
(Southside AND Peninsula). We are excited about this prospect. The first is Saturday, April 5th at Thumpers
in Portsmouth. Information on this social has been sent via e-mail and included here in the Beakon. Please
make plans to attend this fun “Happy Hour” type event.

Lastly, by now everyone is aware of the concert situation – “The Year of Still Here” tour will be making it’s
annual stop in Manassas on Labor Day Weekend for 2 – Yes 2 shows! We hope you have made your plans
to attend as this will be a great time. I believe the Washington area clubs are going to try to put together one
of their legendary party weekends so stay tuned!!!
That about does it for this month. I will fade out to one of my favorite Buffett lyrics…
“There’s an Island in the Ocean, Where the People Stay in Motion
Somewhere on the Old Gulf Stream, Do They Live or Did I Dream
They are Changing Channels, Waiting for the Sails to Fill.
They are Changing Channels, Always Will.”

The Board of Directors Meeting Minutes, Treasurer's Reports, and Parrot Point list are available
for review at the Secretary's table at each general meeting.
MISSION STATEMENT: Our not for profit organization is formed of people who realize they
are blessed with abundant life and want to return to the community and environment in some
small way, the gifts we share as well as provide a variety of social activities for people who share
an enjoyment of Jimmy Buffett’s Music.

Taste of the Peninsula
The 2008 Taste of the Peninsula is coming up on April 24th and once again the PHCoT will be pouring the drinks! The wine
and beer tables will be set up just for us at the 2008 Taste of Peninsula. We'll need 5 - 7 volunteers for the VIP reception starting at 4:30p.m. and a total of 15 - 20 volunteers for the general event from 6:00 - 9:30p.m. Everyone will need
to go to the "volunteer room" to check-in and receive aprons and wristbands to wear during the event. Contact Julie
Zollner if you want to come out and have a great time while helping the food bank. E-mail Julie at
[email protected] for more information or to volunteer.
From Your Editor
Well here we are at Tax Time already and Phyllis is way behind
the eight ball! I have to apologize to all my phriends out there
for the late Beakon. That tax man just won’t stop pounding on
my door. “Shut up Mr. Tax Man! 15% of nothin is still nothin!”
There’s lots of stuph coming up this spring
so keep your eyes and ears open for some
phun times ahead—Socials, volunteer opportunities, and the best of all 2 concerts on
Labor Day weekend. Phyllis is so excited
she could just strip naked and run down Virginia Beach Blvd.
Phyllis promised pictures of the Beach Ball
and the pre-party and they are sure to be
entertaining. Check out page 5 for some scandalous shots of
your favorite phlockers!
Until next time,
Phyllis (your Phriendly ) Phlockerazzi

MOTM Updates
As of April 1st there
are only 210 Days
Until MOTM!
MEETING OF THE MINDS HOTEL INFORMATION
We finally have the much anticipated hotel information for Meeting of the Minds 2008.
We are happy to announce that the KEY LIME INN
will be the host hotel for the Parrot Head Club of
Tidewater this year. They have generously quoted
last year's rates which are:
$149 Standard Queen, $159 Superior
Queen, $179 for King with a 4 night
minimum. The following is taken from
their website, www.keylimeinn.com.
Key Lime Inn is a 37 room historic hotel in the center of Key West’s Old Town area - just two blocks
from famous Duval Street. You can walk to restaurants and nightlife and enjoy the quaint houses in
Key West’s historic neighborhoods. Rooms are
situated in several buildings spread out on an acre of
grounds, giving the property a very tranquil, spacious feel. Garden paths and tropical foliage separate buildings and quiet resting spots. A large heated
pool is surrounded by palm trees, and has plenty of
deck space for comfortable chaise lounges. Continental breakfast is served poolside each morning. Convenient and free parking is available onsite."
Stay tuned for more information
about our traditional Party and the
ever popular "Fun Fund"!
Hello Phellow Parrot Heads!!
Are you still thinking of attending MOTM? Are you already registered and want to encourage others within your club to register? If so,
read on....
There are many interesting items in the planning stage for this year
and will once again prove to be a very exciting convention!
So... if you know of anyone that has not registered and they are planning on attending this year, you may want to encourage them to register either online or via snail mail. They may not want to wait till August 31st to register. There may not be any spots left if they wait that
long!
Registration has moved very quickly this year since it opened on
January 1. There have been very few days when there were less than
25 registrations received per day, so the remaining spots will fill up
very quickly!!
Some things that you need to remember:
1. Registrations are not transferable.
2. We cannot "hold" your registration place; payment in full must be
included with your registration.
3. You must be registered to attend all the events scheduled at
MOTM.
4. Registration is $75.00 per person, not per couple. Children under
12 are free unless they want a gift bag and then they have to be registered.
5. Everyone must be registered. This means a registered person may
NOT bring a date, spouse or significant other and expect that person
to be permitted to attend MOTM events as your guest.
6. Reminder that the monies raised through your registration help
PHiP Inc. to donate to charities such as Save the Manatees and Zonta
Key West, just to name a few....
Please do your fellow club members a favor and talk to them, tell
them we are filling up fast and it is time to register before it is to late.
We have been cautioning you all and this is just one more note reminding you that we will be stopping registration at 3500...

The Beach Ball Brouhaha
Coral RefferetteTina Gullickson planned to
sing this song she wrote about Parrot Heads
"partying with a purpose” at our Friday night
party, but as you know was unable to come be
our Mistress of Ceremonies for the Beach Ball
due to the sudden illness of her mom. Here are
the lyrics which mention our Beach Ball.

day.
PARTY WITH A PURPOSE
We come from every walk of life
We come to free our minds

We rock the boat and unwind

We raised over $27.000 for The
Alzheimer’s Association!
You know we're dancing too
You'll feel us laugh and hear us sing
We raise a glass to you
Birds of a feather we flock together and when we
do...
We party!
with a purpose
More than a vacation
Party!
with a purpose
A Parrot Head Migration
Party!

A Meeting of the Minds
Party! rock the boat and unwind
You had to be there!
When we gather here
The celebration's clear
A happy never ender
There's more than booze in this big blender!
