them while having a BLAST doing it. We like to party with a
purpose as we perform community service projects
and donate to charities.

PHins up from the Prez

Hello PHriends! The weather has been rough but spring is right around the corner! I think we can all
make it! Breathe in, breathe out, move on.....Spring will be here before we know it!
I want to give a shout-out to all the members that helped with the “Open Your Heart for Gilbert”
event! Whether you worked at the event, donated baskets, helped sell tickets, etc., I am very grateful.
Without your help it would not have been the huge success it was. I am ecstatic to report that we
raised $4,461 for Gilbert and his family! What a great event!
I also want to thank everyone that came out and helped us celebrate our 3rd Birthday! A great time
was had by all as we enjoyed etouffee and gumbo and enjoyed the music of our very own Steve
Bowles! Thank-you to Steve for always putting on such a great show for us! We raised $65 and 344
food items that was donated to Cuba Food Pantry! Way to go Parrot Heads!!!
Please remember that we do not have a Charity Director this year! If you want to chair a charity and
have an event, let me know and the Board and I, will help and support you in any way you need!!
One last note! I want to give you this warning:
When you drink Vodka over ice, it can give you kidney failure.
When you drink Rum over ice, it can give you liver failure.
When you drink Whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems.
When you drink Gin over ice, it can give you brain problems.
Apparently, ice is really bad for you!!
Warn your PHriends!!
Fins up!
Mark, The Prez

Get to Know a Trop-Rock Musician
jim-morrismusic.com
Jim Morris
His name may not be familiar to most in the Midwest, but in South Florida he is a big deal with a
large, loyal fan base that refer to themselves as "Bocanuts." Jim Morris has released 26 albums
of original music throughout his long career, immortalizing many bars and locales of Florida in the
process. One such location is a fish-camp style restaurant in Lake Suzy, Florida called the Nav-AGator. Some Floridians refer to their midday practice of having a fish sandwich, beer and listening
to live music as a "Nav-A-Gator afternoon", because of a Jim Morris song. He wrote the song after
he started performing for the locals during afternoons at that bar.
Jim grew up in Georgia with a rich heritage in music. Every member of his family plays an instrument, and his grandfather had a dance band that toured. He taught himself to play guitar at the age
of 10. Musical influences such as a Hank Williams, Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffett shaped his
songwriting style with a devotion to storytelling. Nights of revelry, unique characters, clever lyrics
and satirical charm frequent his song catalog.
Like most Trop-Rock artists, Jim entered the corporate world before he enter the music world fulltime. He graduated college with a BA in English and Human Resource Management. His 15-year
career in resource management was going well and allowed him to live in various parts of the country. He was playing music wherever he could as a hobby, but wanted to live the life of a drifter and
writer. Then a business trip took him to Florida and the rest was history. Jim immediately loved the
place and decided to take the leap into music full time. After some struggles, he had a chance meeting with Randy Matthews, who helped him record his first album in 1996. He tirelessly performed at
bars, coffeehouses and bookstores, building up a fan base that continues to grow to this day. Check
out his colorful website and give his songs a breezy tropical adventures a listen.......

YOU’RE INVITED
The Travel Committee for the Central Oklahoma Parrothead Association is
pleased to announce that we will be hosting an all inclusive trip to Montego Bay,
Jamaica from April 18-25 at the RIU Montego Bay.
We are also very thrilled to announce that The Calypso Nuts will be joining us
on the trip for your entertainment. Lynley and Robbie bring a high energy, crowd
rocking performance to the stage. They are pan (steel drum) players and musicians
extraordinaire and will be perfect for our COPA Jammin' In Jamaica trip.
We look forward to having many of our Parrot Head PHriends from everywhere
join us in Jamaica! However, this trip is not just for Parrot Heads. It is open to
anybody that would like to attend, Parrot Head or not! We've had many non-Parrot Heads join us on our trips and they all have a wonderful time. Please get the
word out to all of your family and friends about the trip. Everybody will thoroughly enjoy Jamaica! It is a beautiful country with some of the most friendly
people in the world. The beaches are outstanding and fun abounds all around.
