Route 66 Parrot Head Club
The St. Somewhere Times
A club with a community service problem
May/June 2015
We are a non-profit inclusive social club whose purpose is to
bring together like-minded folks infused with the tropical spirit of
Jimmy Buffett as well as his kick-back lifestyle, music and
writings. We desire to leave things a little better than we found
them while having a BLAST doing it. We like to party with a
purpose as we perform community service projects
and donate to charities.
Happy Hour & “Bored” Meetings every 2nd Thursday
Join us! Happy hour starts at 6:00 p.m. Meeting at 7:00 p.m.

A Message From Our Prez...
The St. Somewhere Times
PHins up from the Prez
Route 66 PHC President
Mark Fuchs
[email protected]
Hello PHriends! The weather is here! It's what we've all been waiting for! I hope you are all out
enjoying the sunshine!
Our Crawfish & Shrimp boil event is coming upon us! Please help us get some of the community
to attend! I know our scribe challenged you each to sell one ticket to a friend, co-worker or family
member. This event is for a great cause. All proceeds will go to Russell House! Please help make
this a successful! We have only sold 55 tickets.....our goal is 100 and we only have a couple weeks
to go! This is YOUR club, so please help make it the great success I know it can be! We need everyone's help! Also, Colleen is still accepting booze for the "Cooler of Booze" raffle we will have for
this event!
Our Krew had a GREAT time at Rendezvous in April! The weather was a little rocky, but that did not
keep the parrothead nation from having fun! We listened to great music, danced, had our toes in
the water and our asses in the sand, ate Cheeseburgers in Paradise and gumbo and partied with
old and new phriends on the beach for three days! There may have even been a little bit of alcohol
involved too!! I highly suggest you try this event next year. I promise it will not disappoint!
Remember that we do not have a Charity Director this year! If you want to chair a charity and have
an event, let me know and the Board and I, will help and support you in any way you need!!
Fins up!
Mark, The Prez

Jane Reed of the Route 66 Parrot Head Club volunteers at the Cuba, MO
Animal Shelter by taking photos of the dogs and cats, editing the photos, and
creating flyers for the shelter’s Facebook page. The shelter likes to show the pets
in a positive light so that people can imagine them as their pets. Reed also walks
the dogs and does a little socializing with the pets. This particular shoot involved
taking photos of 8 boxer mix puppies that had been abandoned and neglected.
It was a wild afternoon, and one of the dogs captured Reed’s sunglasses. Visit
Cuba, MO Animal Control on Facebook to see the pets needing homes.
Donnie Kerksieck will be in charge of picking grapes this year for Belmont Winery. The
proceeds will be split between the Cuba and Sullivan Backpack Program.
We were able to present a check for $260 to Earth’s Classroom from our Flamingo
Painting Party.
Pop Tops - Please bring your collected pop tops to each meeting for Ronald McDonald House!!

Get to Know a Trop-Rock Musician
donmiddlebrook.net
Don Middlebrook
Most of us have met him already! He has performed on Route 66 for us two times, and
hopefully again next year. Yes, you guessed it...the one and only, Don Middlebrook!! We
even named him our "Official" Club Band! Here is a little back- story on this extremely
talented song-writer, musician and entertainer!
Don studied music at Michigan State University, where he was also a third-string Quarterback. The story I hear, is he learned to play guitar trying to avoid football practice
at MSU. About a year later, he was a member of the MSU Jazz Band. He was first chair
and only chair, and the first guy to play the guitar in the MSU Jazz Band. They have
kept that position in the band ever since! Don started writing songs at the age of 20 and
has been Trop Rockin ever since!
As a native of the cold north, Don reminds us that any coast can be home to the sounds
of the sea. What started out as a musical vacation turned into a lifestyle, as Don and the
crew (Tropical Soul) began touring up and down the Michigan coastline in 1991. Almost
twenty-five later, over a dozen albums, and one stolen Jimmy Buffett TV Guide later, the
vacation is still going strong.
Don has opened for many famous musicians throughout the years, including The
Doobie Brothers, Hall and Oates, Jefferson Starship, Meatloaf, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He
also teamed up with Greg "Fingers" Taylor, the long-time harmonica player for Jimmy
Buffett. Don's songs are great stories and adventures of the world with a tropical twist!

Hey Parrot Heads!! Are you still thinking about signing up for MOTM 2015? Stop thinking about it and let’s get it done!
The Casa Marina is almost sold out and the musicians are raving about being back at MOTM 2015!! We need YOU
there! Registration will close this year on September 15th!
Again…The Casa Marina Resort ALMOST SOLD OUT!!! There are literally six rooms left as I talked to the staff on
ground zero yesterday. THANK YOU to all who are helping sell the hotel out!! The CASA IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR
MOTM!!!
Here is your link to register for MOTM 2015:
http://www.phip.com/motmregistration
THERE ARE ONLY 66 DAYS BEFORE THE CASA MARINA FREE ROOM DRAWING!!
If you register for MOTM and BOOK YOUR ROOM at the Casa Marina Resort prior to June 30, 2015 you will be put
into a drawing for FOUR NIGHTS in a Casa Marina OCEAN FRONT 2 BEDROOM SUITE!! This is the third year
running for this contest and there is nothing better than winning a fabulous suite at the Casa and staying for FREE at the
parrot head event of the year!
Here is the online link to book your room at the Casa Marina Resort:
http://waldorfastoria.hilton.com/en/wa/groups/personalized/E/EYWCMWA-ZZPAR7-20151101/index.jhtml
If you are booking on the phone the special code for our Parrot Head Rate is: ZZPAR7
The Casa Marina phone numbers are: 888-303-5717 or 305-296-3535.
The 2015 MOTM dates are on the PHiP web site for use in booking your rooms right now!
http://www.phip.com/meeting
Given the Casa Marina will likely sell out in the coming days I want to make sure you know that we will maintain a waiting list for rooms. There is a 60 day cancellation policy for the Casa Marina during MOTM and we may have people who
will change their plans as the event nears.
If you contact the Casa Marina via the online links or by phone and get a SOLD-OUT message be sure to contact the
Reach Resort and book there. We will add you to a wait-list to be moved over to the Casa Marina if cancellations occur!!
We were successful with this plan in past years and always try to make sure we make sure the hotel is completely full of
Parrot Heads!! To get on the waiting list for the Casa Marina be sure to email our Director of Registration Rick Fyffe at
[email protected]
As the Casa fills I will add information on how to contact the Reach Resort.
http://www.reachresort.com/About-Reach-Resort
REMEMBER: The Casa Marina Parrot Head rate is significantly less than the standard Waldorf Astoria Casa Marina or
Reach Resort rate as we book the entire hotel each year to get the best deal for the folks attending Meeting of the Minds.
The lower rate will not apply at the Reach but you will have a chance to move over to the Casa if vacancy occurs.
Are you going to MOTM for the first time? Have you been going for years and want to help your fellow Phriends out
with questions? Do you have questions about Key West or MOTM? Do you want to share a room or a ride? Well there is
a new place for you to talk to the entire Parrot Head nation about MOTM. It is the brand new online MOTM forum. Go
join and check it out! This is a place for everyone to help each other, ask questions, and make the whole MOTM experience even better. Here is the link:

Until next time, I’ll see you, down the road…
