Final Training Sessions
The Ladies final training sessions were the w/c 14th
March.
The Men's club sessions will carry on with last one on
30th March. There will however be no session on
23rd March before the Easter weekend. There may
be an informal run around that week.
M1s will be training until the last game in April.
Chair Chat
Results over the weekend before Easter were in
general uninspiring. The first teams won but for the
men another Ashford win means they are relying on
the 2nds doing them a favour. The Ladies had a win
against basement team Wallingford. The 2s won whilst
the 4ths lost and won in a rearranged game I umpired
on Sunday where they thoroughly deserved a narrow
win. For the men the 3rds playing Henley 2s were 3-0
up but were brought back to 3-3.The 5ths had a
tremendous away win at Ashford that guarantees them
safety whilst the Old Boars again defeated Reading to
th
guarantee 4 place in their Division 1 of the London
Vets League . A fantastic performance this season.
My team of the week goes to the Men's 5s just nudging
out the OBs.
Sunday was a great day for the Colts section with The
Boys U16s, Girls U16s and Boys U12s all progressing
to play off games. The Boys U16s won against Milton
Keynes and have their last 16 game against Indian
rd
Gym on Sunday April 3 Sunday. The Girls followed
them with a 5-0 win at Woking and now meet Marlow
in their Home Counties play off game next month. A
great season for the girls and very well deserved.
The good news kept on coming during Sunday at the
U12 County Championship saw the Boys A team
emerge as runners up at Southgate and qualify for the
th
South finals on April 17 – well done to the
boys including the B team who played very well,
coaches Colin Carter and Lazo and umpire Chris
Butler. The Girls finished had the heartache of missing
out on a semi final place on goal difference in their
qualification tournament at Ashford.
What a Sunday of Colts action and some terrific
performances – this week a new award for the Colts
team of the week is the U12s Boys – a soft drink at
the bar from the Chairman is now available to all the
team – and coaches/umpires.
Thanks for those who attended and contributed to the
AGM – there was a good debate on a few topics and
we just have 3 Summer Captains and a Marketing &
Publicity Officer to fill in terms of roles. There then
followed the Champagne evening that was very well
attended and great fun. Thank you to all the sponsors.
Easter Saturday sees the Eagles and Past Masters
competing on the Eastro – a game sadly I will be
missing as I have tickets for the Saracens v Exeter top
of the table clash.
Bournemouth are looking for entries for their
mixed 7-a-side festival competition.

Match Reports
Ladies 1's v Wallingford 1's
Saturday 19th March
Won 1 - 0
Ending on a high
We set out for Wallingford with high expectations,
determined to come away with a win… and an extra
bottle of champagne. Thanks to Missy we all received
new “keep calm and play hockey” t-shirts but
discovered that the men’s medium size doesn’t allow
adequate chest space for some. With Coach Taj on his
way we prepared ourselves with the normal warm up
and set out for the last match of the season.
It was a slow start with equal possession on both sides
and it became clear that we had to up our game if we
wanted to win so that’s exactly what we did. The whole
team gave it their all and we were getting further into
their half, pushing for a goal. There was some brilliant
play and the crucial moment came when Sof carried
the ball down the right wing and crossed it to Lucy. A
quick slip to Macca and there was only one place the
ball could go – bottom right to make it 1-0. From then
on we had the upper hand but were sent into a
momentary panic when they crossed our 25 and Missy
got a green card for a tackle leaving us with only ten
players. However the team quickly recovered and
fought hard to maintain the score.
With one goal up going into the second half we were
determined to maintain our lead. We had a few shots
on goal and worked well to keep possession but there
were no goals scored. In the last five minutes it
became very tense however we were determined not
concede so Neets skilfully kept possession in their
corner eventually leading to a short corner.
Unfortunately, the short corner was taken away due to
us taking a little too long to decide our set up leading to
an anxious retreat and a quick reset of the press.
Nevertheless, we stayed strong and fought hard right
to the very end.
The whistle was blown for full time with the final score
remaining the same, 1-0 to us. A well fought win was
the perfect way to end the season and we left the pitch
triumphant with heads held high, proud of how we had
progressed from the beginning of the season. Macca
was voted MOM for her game winning goal and DOD
was given to Missy for getting a card and messing up
the team sheet (again). We celebrated the end of the
season with a champagne night where there was a
lengthy game of flaps, a punk’s boat race and the long
awaited return of MOMDOG. All in all, a great day!
P.S Dear Taj and the team, joining the ladies 1s was a
daunting prospect but was made simple as you all
welcomed us readily. Throughout the season, you
have offered unwavering support and advice despite
our high pitched squeaking, carelessness with
MOMDOG and crazy antics at champagne night! So
thank you to our punk sitters.
Love from the Punks (Alessia, Lucy, Philippa and
Georgie)

Ladies 2's v Hampstead Westminster 4's
Saturday 19th March
Won 1 - 0
Won With One
The L2s finished the season with their 10th win in a 1-0
victory over Hampstead & Westminster 4s.
The first half was a pretty dire affair with Big and the
defence called into action quite a bit. Shaking
ourselves out of the malaise it was like we were a
different team in the second half with Emily signalling
our attacking intent from the off.
Lucy made a cracking run but it exhausted every last
ounce her energy! The match ended with a mere 3-0
loss, and a rather proud and soppy captain/shaptain
(just kidding). DOD went to Andrea (for her blatant
attitude problems) and MOM to Jane for her superb
performance in goal, truly astounding! A last departing
note on behalf of all of the ladies threes: thanks for
such a brilliant season L dog! 'WE ARE SPARTA!'
Thanks,
Lucy
A text book move with a ball into Laura from Charms
saw Laura roll her player and drive along the baseline
as Emily darted away the defender in the middle to
meet the ball and slot it in the far corner.
We had further chances but couldn't score. Their two
lively players up front occupied Len, Nat and Elspeth but between them and Big they snuffed out the threat.
A good way to finish a good season for the 2s with
steady progress from the season before.
Season in numbers
1 pitch invasion by Ronan the dog in the bag
1 Wicksy rant at opponent
1 half time rollicking
2 massive rain storms

L
Ladies 3s vs Southgate 3s
Saturday 19th March
Lost 0 - 3
Last Fling
Last game of the season for the ladies 3s, and against
some of the toughest opposition, too. The main theme
of the day, however, was to have fun and keep spirits
high- and we certainly didn't disappoint! By half time,
we were pleasantly surprised to only be 2-0 down
against the top of the league (not least because of
Jane's magnificent performance in goal). With just 11
players (all with increasingly tired legs) this was
actually quite an achievement; given Southgate's
supreme reign over the league table this entire season.
Andrea received a green card for shoving the
opposition when she was off the ball, tut, naughty! A
few opportunities opened up for us in the second half,
but the opposition were relentlessly strong and kept us
as bay with relative ease.

Old Boars v Reading Rustlers
Saturday 19th April
Won 5-2
Double End For Rustlers
The Old Boars concluded their inaugural season in the
over 40s top division by completing a rare and
satisfying double over the league winners Reading
Rustlers. It may yet prove to be the case that Reading
were keeping their play-off cards close to their chest by
fielding a slightly under strength side. We’ll know for
sure in three weeks’ time. Irrespective of that
speculation, what is far more certain is that you can
only beat the opposition that is put in front of you, and
that victory was achieved with a comprehensive
scoreline.
The game started at a frenetic pace(well, frenetic for
old men), and the Old Boars quickly found reward for
their early domination by converting a flick. Within 10
minutes they had doubled their lead thanks again to
some industrious work at a short corner. Reading
located their missing Mojo and responded with their
own short corner strike, but undeterred the Old Boars
immediately restored their two goal advantage just
before the half-time whistle.
The second half saw fortune seemingly play into the
hands of the Old Boars, as an untimely injury reduced
Reading to 10 men for the remainder of the match.
26th March 2016
However, the numerical disadvantage actually
appeared to work to the benefit of the visitors as they
increased their effort levels, stretched themselves
positionally and attacked more directly.
A ensuing barrage was successfully repelled by some
resolute defending. Nerves were somewhat calmed
when a fourth goal was poked in by the home team,
but Reading came back again and were able to find
the back of the net to make it 4-2. An uneasy final
passage of play followed but the Old Boars eventually
sealed their victory in the final minutes with arguably
their best goal of the game.
A convivial end to the season included good on-pitch
banter, a disallowed winner for LB (note to the cheeky
Buzzard, if the umpire asks you if you touched it in the
D don't reply, "I don't know" tee hee) followed by
excellent old school beerhaviour in the local.
A good effort by all and a good season successfully
avoiding promotion.

Katya Inderai
Eagles v Leighton Buzzard Fledglings
Saturday 19th March
Drew 2 - 2
What a Pair
Arrival at Leighton Buzzard for the final league game
revealed that on-pitch captain Hotshot had omitted to
bring shorts. This precipitated a fine demonstration of
the Eagles' motto, "Ad curram et communico" as
colleague after colleague produced reserve pairs from
car boots and kit bags. This was essential due to the
gaping gusset of the on-pitch captain's Under Armour.
It was interesting to try on the wide variety of pairs
ranging from Eastcote branded hot-pants through to
1950's cotton bloomers. Sadly in those days everyone
was a 34" waist which did not foresee the vast
thigh/stomach/diaphragm muscles that might need to
be accommodated in the future. It fell to the smallest
player, Sir Honourable Dep'ty Chair, to strip on the
pitch and confess to wearing shorts carved from a bedsheet that he made fit with six metres of drawstring
fashioned from a 1970's bathroom light pull. On-pitch
capitan now clothed, (and not in a proffered skort...) Sir
Honourable Dep'ty Chair hopped in and out of the
variety of alternatives and only 21 minutes late, the
match commenced.
A delightful game ensued with LB just about shading
the first 34 minutes before a pair of D's (Dale'n'DeffyJr)
shot which resulted in the returning McNair to flick in a
rebound. At half time we agreed to up the pace and get
into space. The second half ensued with LB just about
shading the first 30 minutes which this time included a
pair of goals for them, before the returning McNair
drove into the D and smashed in the equaliser. Which
just goes to show that form is temporary and so is his
attendance.

Middlesex In2Hockey
Eastcote Boys U12’s secure their place at the South of
England finals by coming second in the Middlesex
Hockey Championships at Southgate Hockey Club on
th
Sunday 20 March 2016.
This year Eastcote took two teams to the Middlesex
Tournament, which underlines the strength and depth of
the entire section.
The Eastcote B Team was drawn against Harrow,
Richmond, Southgate A, Sunbury & Walton A and
Teddington B. The boys started their campaign well with
two wins and a draw, which helped to build confidence and
put them in a good position, but then came back to back
games against the eventual group winners and runners
up. Sunbury & Walton A and Teddington B provided stiff
opposition that tested the boys to their very limits.
Nevertheless the boys didn’t lose heart as they kept
battling to the end and should be proud of themselves.
Eastcote B Team: Oswin Gurm, Rashaan Palmer,
Aryan Seedher, David Bowker, Daniel Davis, Zahid
Abdur-Rahman, Timehin Fajana, William Spencer and
Ayuj Patha.
The Eastcote A faced teams from Ashford, Hampstead &
Westminster, Indian Gymkhana, Southgate B, Sunbury &
Walton B and Teddington A Hockey Clubs. The boys got
off to a good start with wins against Ashford, Hampstead &
Westminster but dropped points against Southgate B, in a
frustrating game which saw us camped in their final third
for most of the game with nothing to show for our
efforts. We got back to winning ways during our back to
back games by beating Indian Gymkhana and Sunbury
and Walton B. in our final match, many spectators felt that
we were running out of steam but in reality it was our
decision making that let us down against Teddington A and
as a result we suffered our only defeat of the pool stages.
We now entered the business end of the competition by
playing Sunbury and Walton A in the semi-finals. With
both teams playing out a scoring draw it took penalty-flicks
to separate them and coolness under pressure by Alex,
Ben and Giles meant we booked our place in the final
where we played out another draw and yet another
penalty-flick shootout. Sadly this time it wasn’t meant to be
and we lost on flicks. However by finishing runners up we
secured our place at the South of England Finals on
th
Sunday 17 April – well done boys!
Eastcote A Team: Giles Woodland, Vivek Ambasna,
Patrick Carter, Alexander Jones, Leo Barber, Riyan
Hirani, Alex Bickerstaff, Ben Lazarevic and Oliver
Walters.
The boys and coaches would like to thank Chris Butler for
being our Umpiring representative at the tournament.
Thanks

U12 Girls
The girls did very well BUT failed to qualify for the finals by
the skin of their teeth.
We stormed through the early part of the tournament
beating all in our way ...and were looking very impressive.
Ealing
Harrow
Richmond
3-0
1-0
1-0
But then it got much tougher
Teddington (who beat us 4-0 five weeks ago) were
successfully held by us and we had our chances to score
....but our old bogey team scored in the dying seconds with
the help of a whistle on the adjacent pitch which saw our
girls stop! Lost it 1-0. Their coach said “this had got 0-0
written all over it”!
Then came Southgate who had looked very impressive
(and very BIG!). They probably appeared the best in the
group. We held them very well to a 0-0 draw and again
had our chances.
It boiled down to the last game and a battle between us
and Southgate for goals. We started with a 2 goal
advantage due to our earlier exploits but fortunately for
them, they faced Ealing who were now completely
destroyed. They managed to put 4 past them.
This left us requiring 3 against Sunbury. It was just too
much and we were too eager and direct and failed to
rd
score. We finished 3 in the group.
Teddington topped the group but were beaten by Sunbury
A’s in their semi-final. Southgate beat Richmond A’s to go
to the final. In the final it was 0-0 at full time showing just
how good Southgate were (and how well we had
performed against them) but they lost 3-2 on flicks and
Sunbury took the title.
26th March 2016
It was a great day. All the girls performed well, especially
those not used to playing in finals like Samantha and
Maddison. Maddison made 3 match winning tackles
against Harrow. Catriona scored some great goals and
Tash and her combined brilliantly. Tess and Bella worked
tirelessly in mid-field and both looked very composed.
Alex grew in confidence and composure as the game went
on and will be a formidable centre back next season. We
have found a great little goalie in Caitlin. 5 clean sheets
out of 6 and only 1 goal conceded – outstanding.

Eastcote 15:15
Eastcote U16 Boys progressed to the next round of
the South Finals day qualification knock out, by beating
Milton Keynes 4-1. Eastcote didn't have it all their own way
though, and found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes the first time they have been behind this season. However,
no panic ensued, and a tap in on the post from a well
positioned Ashwin levelled the game before half time. A
low drag flick gave Ashwin his second goal before Sam
was first to react to a rebound from a short corner to score
our third. The match was sealed by an excellent lead run
from Harry whilst his marker was sleeping; Harry's stick
being found by a sublime precision pass from Tom for a
relatively easy deflection past the keeper.
Thanks to Keith B for umpiring.
2 more rounds before Finals Day - next round v Indian
Gym, April 3rd 3:15 on the Eastro.
Squad: Oskar, Alex, Brij, Kabir, Ashwin, Michael, Tom,
Zak, Chris, Sam, Harry, Bradley & Joe.

each London borough to compete to become champions of
London. Teams are organised by the sports development team
in your local authority.
Message from the Head Hockey Coach, Paul Loudon:
Please pass this to parents, players, teachers and coaches. The Hillingdon Girls and Boys
squads did very well last year by qualifying for the finals weekend at Crystal Palace.
This year we are entering two hockey competitions:


Year 7 & 6 Boys and Girls will be playing in a new 6 a side competition
Year 9 and under, Boys and Girls will be playing in a 7 a side competition
Training will start for both age groups from Saturday 16th April at Eastcote Hockey Club, Kings
College Playing Fields, Kings College Road, Ruislip, Middlesex, HA4 7JZ. There will also be an
open mixed session on a Wednesday at Brunel Sports Park, start date to be confirmed.
The girl’s training will be at 10.00am and boys at 11.30am, which will continue until June, and
possibly longer if the teams qualify for the finals weekend in July. It would be good for people to
contact me in advance so I can plan for numbers.
If you cannot make any of the initial sessions please let me know, as I need to register the
players in advance, by the beginning of May. You need to put your name in the frame if you
want to play. As per normal, we have an open policy regards coaching the teams, it costs
nothing, all coaches are qualified and fully checked and both teams normally come from a wide
range of schools and clubs.
You need to live or go to school in the Hillingdon Borough and be in Year 9 or under and not be
a county player to qualify.
We can supply equipment but shin-guards and a mouth guard will be needed. For more info and
to put your name down to get involved contact
