It was good to celebrate Lord Cooper of Didcot’s 60
Birthday party on Saturday with many old 3As faces
st
attending and some 1 team players whom I was pleased
to see taking a non alcoholic and top athlete dietary
approach to the evening (Tommy that’s what I was told
say ?)
The top two sides had results that were probably against
the run of play seeing the Men’s side after 6 straight wins
only get a draw whilst the ladies snatched late winner
with Lucy smashing the ball home from close range! The
Men’s section had wins galore with no losses and only
the 6ths drawing. The Ladies saw a win for the 4ths and I
watched the 3rds lose when a draw was a fair result. So
who this week is the Chairman’s team of the week –
many candidates but the Men’s 2nds get that accolade
beating Bracknell 4-3 being top of the league. – Bakes a

Ladies 1’s v Oxford 1’s
Saturday 11th October
Won 1- 0
No Blues
Eastcote were back at the Eastro after picking up three
points on their travels last week. The weather was a
marked improvement on the week before with the sun
out.. which was bad for those who packed their after
game bag the night before (chunky knits!) and not so bad
for Missy who managed to sneak in a pair of short shorts
in her kitbag..
Ahead of the game Tank was devastated to find out she
had missed PA day mid-week – I am sure she will make
up for it this week! I am beginning to think that Fi and
Helen Johnson are in fact the same person as you never
see them in the same squad together – this week was the
turn of Helen!
Oxford managed to lose the toss and rather generously
checked with me before letting us have our normal end
and the pushback!
We started off the better side and had the majority of the
ball without creating too many clear cut chances. Oxford,
had a player sent off, which seemed to spur them on and
they had their best spell of the game when down to
10. We did well to ride out the pressure, defending well
from many short corners that they won in both halves.
18th October 2014
With 10 minutes to go in the second half, and a draw the
more likely result, our best move of the game resulted in
the only goal of the game. Eye passed the ball out wide
right and, let’s just say (because I can’t quite
remember) half the team touched the ball before Sofie
shot and Lucy pounced on a rebound in the D to score..
A great team goal.
We just had time to give Oxford one last chance which I
will give some credit to Sprakey and Jeff for the diving
training we did a couple of weeks ago that I got to it.. !
MOM was Missy – she played less positions in the game
than she has in other weeks, but still covered every blade
of astro.
I was DOD, in the absence of Becca doing anything
ridiculous, and for being a bit grumpy!
Onwards to London Wayfarers next week – let’s keep this
momentum going..

Men’s 1’s v Oxford Hawks 2’s
Saturday 11th October
Draw 1- 1
No Tom Tom
I’m at a loss…
Well Coops didn’t score, so my compass was off for a
start, but it doesn’t end there. No, you see, it seems that
we weren’t so much missing a compass as missing the
entire map – certainly when it came to finding the
opposition goal. In the event, only Bungalow managed to
score. In fact, we even decided to play with 10. Whilst
becoming adjusted to a world where up was down and
down was up it transpires that none of the forwards
scored either, and didn’t do their goal difference much
good.
We dedicated the first half to missed chances, the most
notable was Brooksy disregarding everything we said
about our “special” PC and in doing so had the goal
disallowed!!! Thank goodness Sprakey was on top form
keeping the Hawks at bay with a reasonable save here
and there (I think he was excited about his shrink wrap
spa day).
Men’s 2s v Bracknell 1s
Saturday 11th October
Won 4-3
It Was Hall Right
This week we travelled to Bracknell, for what promised to
be a tough game against a fit and organised side. With a
good win the previous week, spirits were high and joined
with the good weather, we were hopeful of a positive
result.
The game started with both teams looking dangerous
going forward. Eastcote struggled to keep possession
however, and lots of passes were failing to find their
targets and Bracknell were able to get the turnovers. With
Eastcote continuing to gift possession to the opposition,
Bracknell finally took advantage using their speed in
attack to score a breakaway goal 0-1 down. More
turnovers continued but we managed to avoid conceding
another thanks to some good keeping from Geoff.
Chances did come our way, but we couldn't convert
them, until Isaac scored from a short corner, with his flick
coming off the inside of the keeper’s leg before hitting the
post and crossing the line, 1-1. Again although finally
putting some good passes together Eastcote struggled
with finishing and it was Bracknell who scored next, again
from a well worked breakaway goal, 1-2. Half time came
with some stern words from Rich Hall.
Second half started with Eastcote making better use of
the ball, and reducing the amount of turnovers. Finally we
started moving the ball around and making Bracknell
work hard. However Bracknell still looked dangerous,
especially on the break. It was another short corner
though which brought the goal, another flick from Isaac,
this time going just over the keeper’s outstretched foot, 22. Eastcote had the majority of the ball for long periods,
but Bracknell were making us work hard for it, breaking
down our attacks. The Bracknell keep made a number of
good saved including a quadruple save from one attack
which we really should have scored!! However against
the run of play, it was Bracknell who took the lead for the
third time in the match, following a bit of a scrap in the D,
and the forward managing to flick the ball over Geoff who
had made the initial save.
Half Time
Feeling generous and rather confident we decided to go
into the second half only wanting to play with 10, a
tactical decision by team management. Now we know
what those secret meetings involve before, during and
after the game. Thank you to Sam and Richard for
offering to sit on the bench and play to the tactical
strategy.
Gaining a huge amount of confidence through our
defence our mid field and forward line decided to mount a
few attacks and create some agonisingly close
opportunities. A shame the game ended in a 1 -1 draw! I
would just like to thank our coach for coming and
supporting us, helping out with tactics and running the
bench.

Again however, our heads didn’t go down, and we kept
pushing forward always looking dangerous on the attack
but finding it hard to finish. Chances came and went, until
a free hit outside the D saw the ball fall to Gareth, who
slapped hard into the D, for Jimmy to deflect the ball into
the net, in what looked like a textbook drill from the
training ground.. I can assure you however, it was not! 33, and Bracknell's heads looked to have dropped, and
ours raised even higher. What also helped was having 4
subs rotating all working hard. Bracknell on the other
hand had 1, and we had managed to get them injured
early in the second half, so our fresher (slightly) legs
started to show and we continued to pile on the pressure.
With 3 minutes to go, we won another short corner, up
stepped Isaac. I'm unsure if it was the worry of Hat trick
avoidance, or joy of making his dad buy a jug, but he
slotted away his flick into the bottom left corner, exactly
where the defender had decided to walk away from. Hattrick in the bag for Isaac and 4-3 up, our first time we had
18th October 2014
led in the whole match. The remainder was just limiting
Bracknell and keeping the ball in the corners to run down
the time.
A nice 4-3 win, which was hard fought, and well
deserved. Following some other results it meant that the
2s occupy top spot in the league moving into week three
of the league. Next week we host Wokingham.
MOM: Isaac, for his hat-trick
DOD: Jimmy, for his lumberjack tackling, closely followed
by his Monty Panesar celebration after his goal.
Ladies 3s vs West Hampstead 3s
Saturday 11th October
Lost 0-1
Record Goes West
This week’s match was a frustrating one for the Ladies
3s. After being undefeated since the start of the season
our spirits (and arrogance) were high as ever. The whistle
blew and it seemed we decided to play their game, which
lead to West Hampstead putting a goal past us in the first
half. But enough about the first half, we don't like to talk
about that...
The half-time talk was lifted with tactics from our captain
Lucy and coach Lennie, helped by the presence of half
time sweetie break (oranges are a thing of the past!). We
then came out with our heads switched on and a new
wave of pressure. This better second half saw our
defence Andrea looking after the back through forcing the
ball up the right together with Wicksy with her cracking
hits. Through the use of space we had more possession
with Steph Mac holding the middle, coupled with
Rhiannon having a strong week allowing to get those all
important balls up to the forwards, with Susie showing
silky stick skills.
Our striker Laura gave her best attempt to equalise,
however West Hampstead's goalie stopped this, with her
head... After a quick break to check all was okay, a
frustrating bully was lost and play resumed.
A last minute break came as Lucy SPRINTED for a loose
ball down the left side (Thank you Jackie for all those
fitness sessions!!) yet the fearless West Hampstead
defender stole the ball away, and with that clearance, the
final whistle blew. A disappointing result for the girls, but,
suppose we can't always be winners! (I'm sure we'll be
back to our winning streak soon).
Our man of the match deservedly went to our star
returning player, Wicksy for her non-stop skill throughout
the game. DoD was a draw between Steph Mac (likes to
fall over lots), our captain Lucy (just standard really) and
Tebbs - who managed to lose one contact lens so played
half blind! Lucy as captain called rank so Anna was left to
spend the rest of the morning in our lovely banana
onesie.
Eastcote 3’s vs Wokingham 2’s
Saturday 11th October
Win 3-2
Return of the Ging
So after Jeff had guided the team so well in the previous
week’s victory the pressure was on for Lewis. The
Captain was able to call upon an almost full strength 3’s
team of 14, and so his “ginger Mourinho” moniker would
be put to the test. The opponents were Wokingham 2’s, a
team he had spectacularly beaten for his first win when
4’s captain, coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
Starting off the 3’s eased into a nice flow and all looked
fine until Dan, working hard to close down a defender,
took a ball right in the knee. He then proceeded to flop
around on the floor before doing his best Kim Jong-un
impression as he hobbled off the pitch. Fortunately he
was able to return after about 10 minutes resting. Despite
so good moves the 3’s couldn't quite get through, and
then Lewis threw on Kern for his debut and within a
minute and with his first touch, got in the D and fired
home! 1-0. Lewis and Kern then linked up with a good 12 down the right with the shot just going wide, while
Kushal had a shot over a keeper hit the post.
However despite dominating the 3’s didn't add to their
tally and gradually started making silly passes and
decisions. This allowed Wokingham back into the game.
With a move of very good (if somewhat lucky in our view)
one touches that carved us open and their forward
powered a shot past Dan. This was how the half ended
1-1.
Having generally dominated the run of play, the 3’s were
a little disappointed to be all-square. Lewis switched Kern
to centre mid among a few other changes and told the
team to up the tempo and keep the easy passes going.
Again the 3’s can quickly out of the blocks. Soon they
were laying an ISIS like siege to the Wokingham D. A
short corner was won, and with a little bit of improvisation
a shot eventually found its way under the keeper where
Andy was waiting to slam home from close range, 2-1.
Things got better as in a quick counter attack, Andy fired
into the D where Kern was waiting to guide the ball into
the bottom corner, 3-1, the goals flooding in like new
cases of Ebola. With that the 3's could have seen this
out. However we soon reverted to silly passes and giving
away possession cheaply. Wokingham won a short and
scored, 3-2. Wokingham then threw all they could at the
3's and a to and fro game developed. Wokingham hit the
bar, Dan just missed after being put through. However we
held on to claim back to back wins.
Man of the match? Kern, two goals on his debut and a
good performance in the centre. Dick of the day? Dan for
his fish impression (a bit harsh as he was in a lot of pain).
We'll get it back next week gals!!

Eastcote 4’s v West Hampstead 6’s
Saturday 11th October
Won 6 – 1
deep. They failed to create chances from open play but
converted a short with a tap in on the far post.
Hot Stuff
It was a warm autumn morning not typical weather for the
time of year but this was not a typical game by the 4’s!
The game can be summed up by incisive attacks,
dominating and controlling the midfield and taking your
chances when presented.
This was always going to be a fiercely contested game as
we have come to expect from WH but an early short
corner conversion by Jas settled the Eastcote team. The
midfield with Gurdeep, Sarosh, Andrew and Ollie started
to dominate the game. Against the run of play WH
equalised. Another corner, and a long discussion in a
huddle between Harry, Jat, Jas and Pal to decide which
short corner routine to attempt. This took some time due
to the many opinions being put forward. Harry should
have been carded for time wasting. The decision was to
go for the tried and tested routine. Push out to Jas and
he takes on the two runners from WH and reverse stick
(what the Aussies refer to as a ‘tomahawk’!) into the
bottom right corner! 2-1.
WH start to push for an equaliser, but a swift counter
attack on the left with Andrew picking the ball on the half
way line, beating 2 WH players and making that telling
pass resulting in a well-deserved goal by Ollie. Andrew
started to impose himself on the game with his speed and
skill on the left and with Conor on the right flank, they
started to cut open the WH defence. These gave Paul
and Jat time to relax, recover and control the opposition’s
25 yard box!
A rousing half time talk by Harry and a predicted score
line should have resulted in putting a tenner on Betfair!
The second half and WH push to get back into the game.
Time to hold the fort with Dan making some fine saves,
supported by his Dad on the touch line keeping the WH
substitutes in check! Two quick goals followed, poachers
instincts as Conor and ‘no sweat’ Jat happened to be at
the right place and right time to tuck their goals away.
The game was safe by now so time to start holding the
ball, move and pass which frustrated the WH players who
started to get nervous and make silly mistakes.
A short corner soon followed. Time for another huddle, to
decide which routine to deploy! Yes, you guessed it, a
push out to Jaz found its way to Jat, who calmly mishit it
towards the corner post only for Ollie to come sliding in
and deflect it past the keeper. A slick move which
brought compliments from the WH defenders!
A good team performance, in particular by the youngsters
Andrew, Conor and Ollie.
In the second half we began to control midfield and
created more chances with a great run and cross by Tony
which Tim now converted like the seasoned pro he had
become in the last 20 minutes. Great goal.
Then the second highlight. We won a short and Micheal,
one of our colts, boldly strode forward and "told" Des and
Colin he would take the strike which he did very well; the
keeper spilt it and Tony put in the rebound. 3-1
We now defended our lead with a few nerves given the
"Smash and grab" we suffered last week. We let in a late
scrappy goal but came away with the points. Great
performance guys! It took until the last game of the
season to achieve this last year!

Saturday 11th October
Lost 1- 4
dear reader,
it all started so well , we had a squad of thousands , ably
supported by 3 debutantes from the 3’s : Maaike , Jen
and Laura , we had someone to time the substitutions ,
Clare and Kobi , we had dry sunny conditions , and WE
SCORED FIRST ....
I can’t recall the identity of the scorer , but it was a result
of marvellous approach play involving Maaike , Neets
and various others ( I’m more topline than in the detail )
...scorer’s name on the tip of my tongue , nope gone ....
Men’s 5’s v Ashford 3’s
Saturday 11th October
Won 3 - 2
Points!
A substantially unchanged team took on Ashford. They
had a notably stronger midfield than Oxford last week
and put on the early pressure as we played too
The EastcoNet
We realised they were weakest at the back and we just
had to get the ball forward. Then came one of the games
two highlights. Tim broke away with a tip-and-go straight
out of the FA coaching manual. And he continued to go;
and go; and into the keeper; and though his legs and into
the goal. Tim's first ever goal Hurray!
5
Thereafter things deteriorated somewhat , Delia , our
Amish friend , who was having a MAGNIFICENT game
withdrew from the field of play with something that she
felt was a minor injury and turned out to be a shattered
digit , ouch .
18th October 2014
we reshuffled, and reshuffled again, and then a bit more
and they scored and then we had half time and then they
scored a couple more.
Eagles v West Hampstead 9
Saturday 11th October
Won 5 – 0
Alessia was great as body double for Amish Delia ,
Hannah turned in 2 great shifts at LM and RB , Neets
was deft and skilful as always , Maaike attacked with
great purpose, Mo pulled off some brilliant tackles, Big
some great saves , etc etc etc etc ...we lost though ...but
once again much to work on with Will

It’s been a long day and now lying back in bed I can
reflect the 10.30 Eagles game versus West Hampstead
9’s at Brunel. They are a big club and we always have a
competitive match against them so we new we would
have a hard game.. Very tired now and my mind is
floating over the events of the day…...

……Our first goal came when playing left defence I
dispossessed their centre forward at the top of our D and
dribbled down the left hand side, beating a number of
their players who were unable to stop me, before cutting
in to their D, drawing the goalkeeper to go past him and
walk the ball into the empty net.
The second goal started off when I did a Rob Riddleston
aerial only about 3 times higher reminiscent of a Ruby Up
and Under. This gave me time to canter up the pitch and
receive my own pass, step into the D and roof it. Two nil
at half time seemed a very good start.
Second half I got my hatrick when our right winger who
for the sake of this report remains anonymous charged
down the pitch wrong footing the rest of our attack. See
his plight and I set off and positioned myself for the
centre. I took the pace off the ball and scythed it reverse
stick into the top right corner of the goal.
Mid way through the half one of our attackers who for the
sake of this report remains anonymous was fouled in the
D and a penalty corner was awarded. The captain
presumable impressed by my 3 goals directed me
forward to strike the ball at goal. However I decided on a
different tactic and held the ball as the attackers including
the goalie made their run at me. However before anybody
could tackle me I lobbed a very high ball which crossed
the goal line just under the bar.
In the final minutes of the game one of our attackers who
for the sake of this report remains anonymous was
brought down and a penalty stroke was awarded. The
whole team unanimously called me forward to do the
honours. As I walked up to the spot I visibly stared at the
goalies right hand post. As I took the stroke my body
language made it obvious that this was where I was
going to place the ball. The goalkeeper read all the
signals and launched himself at the post. However as the
ball came off my stick I twisted the stick angle so that the
ball went towards his left hand post and all he could do
from his prone position at the right hand side of the goal
was to watch the ball gently cross the line.
A very peculiar fact is that I very rarely score any goals
but curiously I got all 5 last season against Milton Keynes
in similar circumstances. To preserve the accuracy of this
report I have to add that I saved five goals doing my
centurion duty at short corners by the post by either
stopping or deflecting shots that would have otherwise
gone in.
My only worry is that this report is going to cost me a jug
at the next game.

Sponsorship & Advertising Opportunities for 2014-15
Eastcote Hockey is a family based club founded in 1956 and now runs 14 Men’s and Ladies sides on
Saturdays, coaches 200+ 5-16yr old boys and girls on Sundays and has over 400 members.
We continue to have ambitious growth plans and this year have invested further resources in
Coaching across the Men’s, Ladies and Colts sections.
We are a Community Amateur Sports Club who are run by a dedicated group of volunteers. We
achieved Clubs 1st Accreditation recognising that we meet both England Hockey and Sport England
key criteria.
We are pleased to offer Sponsorship and Advertising opportunities for the Coming Season, available
Corporately or Individually. As a sponsor, you can choose from a range of options where your
contribution will be recognised depending on the level of financial contribution.
A
In our weekly electronic newsletter (to 400+ members and former players)
B
On our website,
C
On our Facebook page (280 followers) and Twitter account (715 followers)
D
On advertising in our Clubhouse.
E
On match day pitch side advertising banner (subject to landlords permission.)
F
Your sponsor’s logo on a team shirt.
We also have a weekly match report, often with accompanying photos, in the local media (Uxbridge
and Ruislip Gazette- in print and online) and also support local news initiatives such as Community
Buzz.
The basic packages either run for 12 months or 1 month prior to the event selected.
Some examples of the packages that can be offered are listed overleaf but packages can be tailored
to the sponsor’s own preferences.

Eastcote Team 4
From the Colts Captain
Did you know that we have around 160 children training
every Sunday morning in 9 different groups over 2
pitches? From age 6 and they are pretty small, to the
big U16 boys and girls! It looks like we have record
numbers in the Under 14 boys group with over 30 at
training each week up at the Harefield school
pitch. That's an impressive colts section.
Congratulations also goes out to the players who played
for the club in the U6, U8 and U10 tournaments in
Beaconsfield and Newlands Park. I heard you were all
stars - well done!
Josh Copley
Colts Captain
Beaconsfield U6, U8, U10 Tournaments
Eastcote Team 4 also know as the Red team played in the
Beaconsfield U10 tournament, they were undefeated in the
group stages drawing 0-0 against A&C and Tring with a 30 win over Wycombe all goals coming from Tuyi.
Just a quick note to reiterate the great success and effort
put in by the guys and girls on Sunday
We qualified top of our group but unfortunately lost 0-1 in
our playoff game to a well drilled MK side who were the
only team to also field a goal keeper.
U6 Mixed
Over all it was an excellent performance all the team really
listened well and stayed in there positions.

Eastcote Team 3
William, Jay, Charlotte, Lyla, Max, Minnie, & Ella
Total commitment and enthusiasm towards every game
with a mixture of close wins, draws, and loses. Lots of
what they've been learning in practice is paying off but a
few things to work on going forward.
Lots of positive play with strong running up and down the
pitch. Could have been more clinical in front of goal and
results would have gone our way (give a good hit or
push!!). We won more than we lost or drew and there was
some impressive skill on display.
Eastcote Team 6
I'm not around for two Sundays but I'm sure you'll be fine
(if not better) without me. The areas I believe we need to
work on are:
- going round players - moving the balls left or right and
not running straight at an open stick. We should focus on
using both sides of the stick to do this!!
- passing out wide not straight through the middle
- Turning with the ball, moving the ball to a strong
position and not to an open stick of the opposition
Richard.

Eastcote 6 (yellow team) had a mixed set of results draw 11 with Amersham & Chalfont 3 then lost 2-0 to Tring 2 and
won 2-0 against Gerrards Cross.
Under 10 Girls
Then we had Eastcote 5 in the final play offs with a just
result of 0-0.
Very well played by all players.

Thanks to Sophie Defanis for playing extra games to make
up our team.
Malcolm
On Sunday 12 October, Eastcote u10 girls travelled to
Newlands Park in Amersham to play their first match of the
season. The format was to be two 20 minute matches
against Amersham and Chalfont Girls. as the first outing of
the season, it was certain to be a steep learning curve and
this was indeed the case. In the first match, the opposition
were simply too strong and Eastcote eventually went down
a painful 6-0.
Newlands Park Tournament
U10 Boys
Not to be discouraged, the girls took the second match to
be a fresh start. With some well worked routines in the
interval, Eastcote came onto the pitch a little more focused
and a lot more savvy. The team were unrecognisable from
the first game. There was no taking away from the fact that
Amersham and Chalfont are a good team but Eastcote
were a much better team than earlier.
Eastcote U10’s Boys squad travelled to the dark depths
of Newlands Park for their first set of matches of the new
season. They played three teams from Amersham &
Chalfont Hockey Club, drawing two and narrowly losing
the other. The boys took a little time to get used to their
positions and to each other but soon started to play
determined Hockey.
Eventually Eastcote went down 1-0 but were able to walk
off the pitch with their heads held high. It was a very
encouraging start to the season and the girls will be looking
forward to the next matches. Well done to all the players:
Katie G, Katie N, Eshana (capt), Sarah, Samantha,
Madison, Jasmine and Ishwari.
Eastcote benefited from have a large group of supporters
whose encouragement proved to spur the boys on. The
real breakthrough came in the final match when you
could really see that the boys were trying to make the ball
do the work as they started to pass the ball confidently.
The boys were a real pleasure to work with and always
responded to the advice given, thanks you. I often feel
its wrong to pick out a player for a special mention as
each and every one of the boys did do something extra
special today. However I am going to say well done to
Riyan for his super confident game between the
sticks! Eastcote U10’s boys; Ben Lazarevic, Patrick
Carter, Rashaan Palmer, Oswin Gurm, Riyan
Hirani, Vivek Ambasna, Aaron Sardana, Daniel Davis
and Ayuj Pathak.
Regards
Andy
