Classmate Biography Index • Last Update: 11-8-11
From New Zealand (Christine Franzen), to Estonia (Tom
Fehniger), to Athens (Beyza Untuna), you’ll find THS ‘66
classmates spread out around the world. Closer to the
Redford base, they can be found from New Hampshire
(Lois Leber) to Hawaii (Jim Parker). Regardless of where
you find them, we hope that this booklet helps you to
reconnect with your friends from 45 years ago.
Only some classmates have submitted bios so far, and
their names appear in the list below. However, we
encourage everyone to send in their bio--as we will
periodically update this booklet.
To submit your bio for the next revised booklet, go to:
http://www.thurston66.com/
and click on the Classmate BIOS link.
To send a photo: email it to [email protected]
Corrections can also be made by sending an email.
We’d love to get email addresses from everyone, so if you
have one and it’s not listed here, please drop us a line at
[email protected] so we can add your email to our
roster. Using email instead of the postal service will help
keep costs down when we promote the 50th!

• I have been married for 40 years to Tom Elston (Thurston
'64). We first dated in 1970 and then married in 1971.
Tom got a job in San Francisco, CA in 1972 with a mortgage company, and we have lived in California ever since
then. We lived near San Francisco for 18 years and then
moved to the Sacramento area where we have lived for the
past 21 years.
We have three children: 2 girls and l boy. Both of the girls
are teachers, and our son is working in real estate. One of
our daughters is married and has three sons. They live
close by us and we love being able to watch the boys
grow up. Our weekends are spent going to watch them
play sports.
I graduated from college (Taylor University in Indiana) in
1970 as a secondary history teacher. However, when we
had our children, I was blessed to be able to be a stay-athome mother.
I enjoy playing golf, spending time with my children and
grand-children, and travelling.

• Married to Cindy Wieland, who grew up in Orchard Lake,
MI. We've been married 44 years... 2 good ones :) :)
Kids Grandkids: 3 daughters, five grandchildren. Everyone
calls me Papa. (Cindy refers to me as her sixth grandchild,
but I'm not sure what that means.)
I love all sports, especially ND football!
ANDERSON, DAVE (LOST)
ANDERSON, KAREN
Career: www.adamson-assoc.com. Primarily an investor
with multiple private equity groups. Also sit on the board
of directors and try to boost the insights (and the confidence) of the executive team by telling them stories about
all the mistakes I've already made.
A month doesn't go by that I don't think about those we
lost in Vietnam/Southeast Asia. I wonder what they would
have been able to do/contribute these past 40 to 45
years? I hope I'm worthy of their sacrifice.
I love the Minnesota Twins, but I'm still a Tigers fan... I
hope they do well again in the playoffs!

• I’m divorced and now my significant
other is Ken Wood from the Class of '66.
I have two daughters, Gina, 34 and Angie,
32. Gina is married and is a Nurse Practitioner at Northwestern Hospital in
Chicago. She has one son, Drew, 13
months, who is my first grandchild! Angie
I retired from teaching in MI in 2005 with over 32 years of
service. I taught at Thurston for about 11 years and then
moved to Farmington High where I finished my career. I
thought I might need to get a part-time job in retirement,
but I am too busy!
I enjoy my grandchildren and travel frequently to see them.
I have quite a few new friends in FL who are also retired
and I occasionally golf and go to dinner with them. I have
also done volunteer work with them and on my own to
benefit Adopt-A-Family, Manatee Public Schools, political
campaigns and have worked on our annual fashion show
to raise funds for various charities.
I also enjoy exercising, reading and visiting friends in other
parts of FL. Life is good!
To the Class of '66 --Thanks for the memories! We had an
outstanding group of students in our graduating class and
I am so happy that I still have some very good friends from
our class who I see regularly. As the saying goes "Make
new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other is
gold." I know that sounds corny, but it is true. I really
treasure my good friends from high school and when I get
to see them it seems like old times instantly!!
I hope to see all of you at our reunion on October 1st -there are many classmates who have done an outstanding
job putting this together and I would like to thank them.
Without their help, this reunion would not be possible.
Let’s Party!

• Marital status: I'm single and have been involved with
my career since I moved out to California.
Career: Came out to California after college, cashed in my
airline ticket and stayed. My family came out a year later
and we have all been out here ever since. I have been in
Commercial insurance the entire time and am an Area Senior Vice President for the 4th largest wholesale broker in
the world.
Am just in the processing of slowing down and looking to-
wards retirements in the next year or so. I'm interviewing
people to train with me and take my place when I retire.
General comments: I skiied for quite a while the mountains
in the west till I wracked up my knees and then I took up
golf. I plan on playing more once I retire. My brother and
sister and I travel a lot with friends we have made out here.
We hit Napa for wine and Hawaii for golf every year and
then take big trips every other year to Europe..
I haven't had a chance to come to any of the reunions as
September and October are really busy times for me. My
last time to Michigan was 1983 on business and things
had changed so much I couldn't get over it. I drove by my
old house on Crosley and then went to Thurston. I couldn't
believe that Schoolcraft road has almost disappeared.
I did manage to get together with Cathy Carroll, Jim Parker
and Rick Royce at Cathy's house once. It was really fun to
see others from school and remember old times. I also
have emailed Donna Zalewski (Frye) a few times although I
am not a good writer or consistent writer to people.
I adore spending time with my family. I have been very fortunate to have traveled to many European countries.
Hopefully, more of the same will be in store for me in the
next few decades.

• Married to Gregory (also a Thurston Grad) for over 40
years. We have two magnificent, lovely daughters that live
in Chicago. One just had a wonderful wedding celebration
in Chicago on July 2nd.
When I graduated from Thurston I attended a two year program for Radiologic Technology. I worked for a few years
until we had children. I stayed at home until our girls were
both in school. In 1980 I went back to school at Henry
Ford Hospital for Diagnostic Ultrasound. After working in
ultrasound for a few years I went back to school to get my
Bachelor's Degree.
I have worked at Henry Ford Hospital for the last 30 years.
I have had several jobs from being in charge of MRI, working to build a radiology database for our old information
system and my current position of managing ultrasound for
the Henry Ford Health System Network.
We have one daughter, Julie, age 36, who is married and
lives in Chicago with my two darling grandkids---John 31/2 and Lauren 2 years old.
I worked at The Bendix Corporation for 13 years; I have
been a stay-at-home Mom since 1980. Playing tennis was
my favorite past time, playing on a travel team and USTA
teams 3-4 days a week for 26 years...had to give it up 8
years ago---bad knee and arthritis in lower back :( I now
love to play golf...but not very good at it.
My husband has been retired for 4 years. We stay in
Naples, Fla for 5 weeks in Jan/Feb. and Destin, Fla for 1-2
weeks in April. Of course, we're always traveling to
Chicago to see Julie, Mike and the grandkids.

• I have been married to Paul Umberger
for 12 wonderful years. I have three darling daughters: Angela is married and
teaches Language Arts in Hamtramck
and was hired by Marlene Dobbert (class
of 65). Wendy is married and is the
mother of my smart and talented grandchildren: Ashleigh 19 (married), Rosey 15
and Gabriel 13. They are active in local
theater productions and I love being able
to see them perform on stage. Kristy is my youngest and
works at IUPUI school of dentistry. She has a significant
other with two children ( my instant grandchildren). And
last but not least, we do have an "only" cat named Zelda.
Paul has two grandchildren. Paul JR is a Marine and full
time student. Courtney is leaving in August for Izmir
Turkey where she and her fiancee will be living for the next
3 years. She has Beyza's information and will try and contact her while she is there.
I was in banking for 22 years, which is where I met my husband. And now we are both happily retired and loving it.
We are leaving for Northern California in September, we
toured Southern California several years ago (when Ken
Jennings was winning on Jeopardy!). We have been to
Alaska twice, the first time we drove and the second time
was on a cruise. We travel to Michigan quite often to visit
family and friends We have gone to Marquette in February
for the dog sled races, the casino at Christmas and Traverse City for Cherry Festival. Twice a year we visit my
parents in Florida who are 85 and 90 and still playing golf!
So sorry I can't be at this reunion, but will come for the
50th. I would like to thank everyone who created the THS
group on Facebook. I really enjoy visiting with everyone.

Marital status: Married to David K. Turbin since June 15,

boy, Matthew & a girl, Katie. Stephanie has two children
(my grandchildren). Her little girl, Dana starts Kindergarden
this year and her little boy, Andrew starts preschool.
Matthew lives in North Carolina and Katie is married and
lives in Georgia. I also have two step-children. Jennifer is
married and has three children. Jennifer just retired from 22
years in the Air Force. Her oldest girl, Samantha, is expecting a baby in October, so my husband will be a greatgrandfather. Nicole is a senior in high school and Joel is in
middle school. My other step-son, Michael is divorced

bred Weimaraner dogs and were part of the Weimaraner
Club of America for many years.
Career: I have been a special education teacher for the
past 30 years. I first taught in Midland, Michigan, where I
met and married my husband, David. I have been in the
Dearborn Public Schools for the past 26 years. I teach
physically or otherwise health impaired students. It has
been a career filled with many, many rewards and challenges, but one I would not have traded for the world. I am
getting ready to retire within the next year or so.
General comments: I have grown from that very shy, quiet
girl in high school, that nobody even knew, to a grown
woman whose life has been filled with so much love of
family, friends and a career that has sustained my life. I
grew beyond what Thurston High School gave me, to
Eastern Michigan University, and all parts of the world I
have visited. In retirement, my husband and I plan to continue to see the world, and yet look back in the past, to
visit our genealogical roots. We cherish our kids, grandkids, and soon great-grand child.

• I have been married for 36 years to Mary Lou.
Our son Tim graduated with a teaching degree in Special Ed.
He and his girlfriend (now wife) were offered positions in
Houston and have been living there for 12 years. After about
5 years, Tim switched to physical education and is coaching
football, basketball and track while also serving as the Jr.
High AD. His wife Brandi is teaching 4th grade. They have
given us two granddaughters and one grandson.
Our oldest daughter Tracy graduated with a degree in business-marketing and is working for American Greetings in
Cleveland. Her husband Bill works in the family business
and manages one of their restaurants. They had their first
child in March, a girl.
Tiffany, our youngest daughter, graduated with a degree in
business-marketing and has been working for Google in
Ann Arbor the last 5 years.
As for myself, I have had numerous jobs over the years.
About 9 years ago I decided to get a school treasurers license. While taking "School Finance" and "School Law," I
was substitute teaching and doing an internship in our
school treasurers office. One day the treasurer came in and
asked if I would like to be a controller of a manufacturing
company, his son-in-law had just sold his company and his
wife didn't want to do the accounting anymore. So........ for
the last 7 years I have been the controller of a small manufacturer of hydraulics valves that supplies parts to the farm
and large industrial vehicle industries.
Mary Lou stayed at home until Tiffany started school and
they both started first grade together. She taught first
grade up until about 4 years ago when she started overseeing the Title I program and coordinating the State mandated testing.
Mary Lou and I have been able to do some traveling the
last couple of years and enjoy working in the yard when
the aches and pains allow.

• Relocated from Milford to Brighton upon marrying "my
man", Denny Hull in 1999. We have a blended family of
four grown children, two his and two mine.
My son, Jake (31), my firstborn, is about to move out to
Colorado to complete his Ski Area Mgmt. degree as an intern @ Vail. He is a snow-boarder for life. My daughter,
Leah (29) is a dental hygienist in Ann Arbor, lives in Howell
w/ her husband and her two daughters; my beautiful granddaughters, AnnaBelle 10 and Eve Marie almost 9.
Both of Denny's daughters live in Howell with their families.
We are all close ( PTL) and see our kids and grandkids all
the time. Half of them go to the same church with us!
So between us, our grandkids number six; my two (above)
and Olivia, a Freshman @ Grand Valley St. Univ., her sister
Maggie, Soph. at Howell High; Denae 12 (named for
Denny) and our only boy, Brennan, 8!
Did you know most of my teaching career was @ our own
T.H.S.? Came right back in the Fall of '70 after graduating
from E.M.U. and retired from S. Redford in '03. Took a
couple of leaves to start my family; suffered through a couple of "laid-off" semesters, but enjoyed the whole experience immensely.
It was a riot, at first, getting to know all of our "old teachers" on a first name basis. And then joining them at "the
bar" on Friday nights to unwind! Fun, fun, fun.
Most of my travel experiences have been Christ-related in
some way or another. A "Luther Tour" of Germany; a trip
to Israel last Feb. called "The Life and Land of Jesus" (fantastic); mission trips to Jamaica; Guatemala; Tyumen,
Syberia (that's the reason I missed our last reunion).
I make it out east (CN and VT) to visit sisters. We moved
my Mom (100 yrs. old at this printing!) out to VT a couple
of years ago; she stays with my sister Judy's family.
Guess we are blessed with some healthy genes, eh?
In the 45 years since we left THS as Seniors there have been
good times and there have been some bad times; ups and
downs. But through it all, Jesus never let me fall too far. He
was always there drawing me to Him. For many years I resisted His call, just enjoying His protection over my life. Then
sometime in the late '90's I made the change. To paraphrase
one of my favorite Christian Rock band's current hits (Surrender, by Third Day), it went something like this:
..I remembered where I'd been ~ well, it never seems to end ~
and I'm still running ~ will I ever change my mind? ~ I'm almost out of time! ~ I'd better give up ~ gonna stop running ~
it's the end of the line ~ it's time to surrender ~ hands up ~
turn it around ~ fall to the ground ~ are you gonna SURRENDER? And I said, "Yes!" And how I have been blessed is just
phenomenal. Curious? Just ask.

• I'm engaged to a wonderful man: Michael Olsen. I met Mike
3.5 yrs. ago, and everyday with him is an adventure! I thought
love and romance was over in my life. Boy was I wrong.
I have 2 children: Bill (43), and Tara (38). My son Bill owns
his own air-conditioning company. Bill has one son, Bronson (10). My daughter-in-law was killed by a drunk driver
when Bronson was 18 mnths old. Bill is a single parent.
My daughter Tara is an electrical, mechanical, industrial
engineer. Tara has two daughters: Haley, who is 4, and
Alyssa who is 2.
I retired from the Plymouth-Canton School District after 25
years. I spent 25 years working with special kids at Canton
High School. I moved to Florida to help my son. After sitting around for a year, I went back to work. I tried a few different jobs, but I realized that I'm only happy working with
children. I now work for the Pinellas School District at
Lynch Elementary in Pre-K 4-5 year old special kids. I have
6 years in. I'm working on my second retirement. I only
have 24 more years to go. I'll be 87 when I retire again!
I'm very happy where my life is now. I'm thrilled that we
found so many of us. It's great to see how everyone is doing.

• Doug Detherage and I got married in 1993 and were together for 9 years before we tied the knot. This is my first
marriage, waited until I was 45, and it was certainly worth
the wait. I definitely married the right man.
Cats, cats, cats. I am surrounded by cats. I have had cats
since I was about 10 years old. I just love them and their
quirky behavior, running sideways and the evening crazies.
Currently we have 5 indoor cats and we refer to them as
the herd. They are all rescue cats or kittens from a feral litter. We have a colony of feral cats where we live and we
are dedicated to making their life easier. We work with animal samaritans and do the trapping and fixing of these
cats. We release them where we trap them and make sure
that they have food, water and some type of shelter. It is
very rewarding. Just too bad that people dispose of
animals when they tire of them. I won't preach here.
I worked in Human Resources for a candy company and
then a Biotech company. I travelled constantly around the
US and then had an office in Munich and Brussells. I
stopped working at age 53 and even though I enjoyed the
ride, it was time to retire. My husband retired in 2010 and
now I have him to myself. We belong to Mission Hills
Country Club and golf is a big part of our lives. We both
have our own golf cart which makes it even more fun.
There is a pool in the backyard so swimming continues to
be a big part of my life. I can still lose myself in the water.
We haven't travelled since we retired but who knows what
the future holds.
I have had a wonderful time working with Paula Roberts,
Linda Love, Carole Serbay and Sue Fitzpatrick on the reunion
project. I urge any of you who want to get involved to join in
the fun. Searching for people and actually finding them has
been very rewarding. Please make any changes of your address, e-mail etc on this website so we will have all of you for
the 50th reunion. Life is a journey, enjoy the ride.

• Married to wife Patty for 36 years. My wife and I enjoy
traveling and going to Florida every year.
We have one son 29 years old living in Los Angeles, doing
comedy, acting and writing.
I have had a diverse career from working with emotionally
disturbed teenagers, to being a homeowners claims adjuster, until I finally settled into a career in computers. I
worked at Chrysler as a programmer until 1979 when Ken
Wood convinced me to come to GM and work on one of
the largest automated warehouse projects in the country.
We had fun, and partied lots. Eventually, I was transferred
to EDS and wound up my career as an account manager. I
retired in 2007, then wound up helping my brother start a
collectibles business - grading vintage lithography from the
19th century. Today, I am consultant and do the business
marketing.
I have fond memories of Thurston High School and all the
people I hung out with including all the guys on the
Wrestling team. It's also great to know most everyone is
still healthy and thriving in retirement or second careers. I
remember it as a simple time with no information overload.
Remember when kids actually played outdoors doing such
things as pick-up baseball and football games!

• I was remarried in January of 2011 to Larry Lininger.
We each have one son, one daughter-in-law, and one
grandson. We all live within 1/2 hr. of each other in the
Mesa, Arizona area. We enjoy getting the grandkids together.
We have two lovable dogs: Crumpet Pearl Ann Coco Jojo
Prickle (11 year old toy poodle; grandson keeps adding
names) and Samson (7 year old boxer from Genesee
County Humane Society). Both dogs moved across the
country with me.
My career started in elementary education, then I spent
most of my career in adult and community education. I'm
a new retiree as of 26 days ago (as I write this). So far I've
traveled to MI, OH, and PA, spent some time moving into
our house, and worked out. I plan to do more of that, get
to know Arizona better, visit parks, volunteer, play my
violin, learn languages, and maybe work part-time (if I have
time).
Music, specifically playing the violin, has stayed with me
since Miss Halleck at Pierce Jr. High. I am not happy without music in my life. I currently play in a community college/community orchestra made up of students and
community residents.
I enjoy staying in touch, and welcome contacts. Life is
good; I am thankful for what I have.

Drummond. We were married in 2005 in
Rome, Italy. Re-connected on Classmates.com in 2000 after not seeing each
other for 34 years. Susan says she would
not talk to me at Thurston because she
thought I was a greaser!
I have three grown daughters and three
grandchildren.
My career: 37 years at Ford Motor Co as a development
engineer. I developed experimental engines for Ford, did a
lot of traveling, also. Past Commodore of River View Yacht
Club and past Director of Wyandotte Yacht Club. Retired
from Ford in 2007 and sat for about 10 months, decided I
could not do that for the rest of my life so now I'm driving a
school bus part time during the school year. Have learned
alot about the kids nowadays.
I have attended all of the Thurston Class of 66 reunions
and have enjoyed all of them immensely and always
looked forward to them and was always on the committee
that organized them. We had over 320 attend the 10 year
in 1976 at a K of C hall on Joy Rd and Middlebelt. I'm very
sorry to see so many of our former classmates have
passed on much too soon.
We will all enjoy our 45th reunion and it will bring back
fond memories for all of us the weekend of our reunion and
also in the future. We now have Facebook, email and all of
that other electronic communication capability. It will all be
great fun.

• I met my husband George in l970. He lived on Hazelton
in Redford, the same street we lived on so I guess I literally
married the boy next door. We married in l973 and are still
happily together 38 years later.
Children came rather late for us, but not for the lack of trying, and we were blessed with our daughter Suzanne in
l982. She attended Franklin High School and was a member of the dive team for her junior and senior years. She
graduated from Eastern Michigan and is currently working
as a phlebotomist at Livonia Family Practice. Our son
Michael was born in 1987 (I'll do the math for you (yes I
was just shy of 40, WOW) but he was a joy. He was into
hockey big-time (Livonia Hockey Assoc.) and we were
very involved. I managed his teams throughout the years
and his dad was an assistant coach. We had a blast.
Both our kids are single and no grandchildren yet. Hopefully we will someday before we get too OLD to
enjoy them.
I started working for Ford Motor Company in l969 in Livonia and Dearborn before I left in l982 to have our daughter.
I was fortunate to be able to be a stay at home mom for
both our children and now I'm a stay at home wife. My
husband retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield downtown
Detroit in 2007. I was a little concerned about him invading
my territory but I was very excited for him. We have a lot of
time to be with friends and family and neighbors. Retirement has been good!
It has been 24 years since I attended a THS reunion. I was
7 months pregnant at the time and felt a little out of place.
But then I saw my friend Paula Roberts, who grew up just
around the corner from me, and she had just had a beautiful little girl two months earlier. I didn't feel so out of place
anymore. I felt proud and I was blessed with a beautiful little boy who has given us complete joy. I have fond memories of THS and all the close friends I had. I love to
spend time with my nieces and nephews and their kids. I
am very close with my sister Beth and brother Daryl. We
see each other often and enjoy each others company.
Looking forward the the reunion and wish all of you well.

• Married to Michael Fidler for 35 years. I have always
kept my maiden name because.....it's my name!
We have two kids: Benjamin Fidler, 31 years old, and Abigail Fidler, 29 years old. Ben is married to the wonderful
Emily Anderson Fidler and they have one child (making me
a grandma!), Brelyn Fidler, who will be 8 years old next
month. Being a "Nana" is the best! Brelyn is the center of
all of our lives.
Abby is being married October 29th, when we will officially
welcome Jason Secord into our family. More grandchildren in the future??
Some homeless dog or cat always seems to find our
house. Currently we have 3 dogs and 2 cats.
It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with
my life. One of my grandmothers had a stroke and I so admired the nurses who cared for her that I decided on nursing. I graduated from Providence Hospital School of
Nursing and was an Emergency Room nurse for 30 years.
Loved it! But, when they began to expand the work
schedule to 12 hour shifts, I decided it was time to change
to something less physically demanding. I continue to
work at the same hospital but I am now the Employee
Health Nurse, 8 hour days, Monday through Friday. I have
been at the same hospital for 38 years. Along the way I
also earned a Bachelors Degree from Arizona State University.
My husband, Mike, has his doctorate in education and has
worked as a teacher, psychologist, school principal and
administrator. He also continues to work full time.
High School memories are somewhat of a blur to me. I
think I actually have more memories from my junior high
years at Pierce! Looking back, I think I was more naive
than most of my classmates and certainly confused about
my life and the future. But, I finally got it figured out,
moved to Arizona, and married my husband, Mike. We
have lived in the same home for 30 years (recently remodeled!) and are very content with our lives. I do enjoy traveling and have taken some fabulous vacations in the States,
Europe and the Carribbean. I get back to Michigan at least
once a year.
I have very much enjoyed the Thurston web site on Facebook. Thank you Carole, Linda, Kathy and Paula. It has
been wonderful catching up on what everyone is doing
and I wish you all good health and happiness for the rest of
your lives.

in MI, IL and NJ, I joined Bryant University in RI five years
ago as Vice President for University Advancement. I'm
grateful to have meaningful work, great colleagues and to
live in a beautiful part of New England.
General comments: I failed to stay in touch with all but a
handful of people after THS, and those few for only a couple of years. Having moved to the West Coast where I
lived for 16 years made me feel removed. I received information about a couple of previous reunions, but was not
interested in attending. I think I'm getting sentimental after
hearing from Kathy Carroll and a few others and looking
back through my yearbooks. It was a long time ago, and
there's not much continuity, but seeing some of your pictures and hearing your names again does bring back memories. I hope to attend the reunion if I can swing it with my
work travel schedule.
Some of my fondest memories are of my involvement with
the track and cross country teams: Mr. Burgess, Mr. Lake,
and great team mates. My favorite teachers include Mrs.
Cummings our fantastic French teacher, Ms. Jackman, our
art teacher, and a few others who helped shape my life.

• Married to Marsha MacDowell
Our daughter, Marit Dewhurst, is married,
lives in Brooklyn and is on the faculty of
City College in NYC.
Currently I have a few roles at Michigan
State University: Director of Arts and
Cultural Initiatives at MSU; Curator of
Folklife and Cultural Heritage at MSU
Museum, and Professor of English at
MSU. I have been involved in considerable international
work especially in South Africa, China, Thailand, Europe,
and Scandinavia. I also spend a great deal of time in DC
working with the Smithsonian and the American Folklife
Center at the Library of Congress.
My life and work have been very closely linked as I have
been able to blend them in a way that has been enriching
and enjoyable. We have a place on Sanibel Island where
we especially treasure. We are regularly in NYC visiting
our daughter and son-in-law and other friends there. Marsha and I are fortunate to share our work interests and our
other life pursuits.

Kids/Grandkids: Wowwhee! 6 children ranging in age
from 38 to age 20. (Melanie Pilar Mueller, Melissa Pilar Loving, Elizabeth Murad, Nicholas Murad, Stephanie Murad,
Aaron Murad. The last two children are still residing at
home. Stephanie, age 22 - Aaron, age 20. Both attending
community college. All reside in Michigan. / 7 grandchildren ranging in age from 17 to age 4. 2 dogs. (Rocky and
Fritz) A mixed breed 80 pounder and a 4.8 oz Yorkshire Terrier. 1 gorgeous cat - all black named Kalim. They all are
lovable and loyal! I take Fritz just about everywhere I go.
I finally arrived to retirement in October of 2010. What a
glorious day! My last career position was in fundraising for
MDA in Canton, Mi. After 6.5 years of hosting events
throughout metro Detroit, I was able to step away and resume my life on the homefront. Resumed classes at
Schoolcraft College in September 2010, taking piano for
enjoyment. Another opportunity at being home is to enjoy
the grandchildren more often and work in my garden. I am
a member of the Canton Garden Club and also a member
of the Northville Historical Society. These are my passions
along with Bible Studies at two local churches. One, the
7th Day Adventist Church in Plymouth and also at Ward
Presbyterian Church. I have a serious interest in missions
and support this aspect of ministry. SEND International
and MISSION Wings are the two prominent organizations I
help to support.
I will be traveling with members of the Michigan Philharmonic
(formerly known as the Plymouth Symphony) to Italy for a 10
day land and cruise vacation in mid-October of 2011. This
will be the highlight of my vacationing for the year.
My hobbies include playing the piano, golfing and reading.
I have been doing more exercise at walking every day.
However, gardening and taking care of the landscape take
extensive time during the week and is also GREAT exercise. I attend as many garden walks in the Detroit Metro
area as possible. Community art fairs are also another
passion I have!
My plans for the future are to be as involved as possible in
what I am already doing. To stay healthy and to have a
positive attitude at daily living.is what I focus on each day.
My spiritual life is a priority to me and I pray that those I
come in contact with can share with me their walk and
their testimony of faith, as well.
I wish ALL of my classmates of the THS Class of 66 a
very healthy, meaningful and purpose filled life in the
coming years!

After graduation, I attended Adrian College and Henry Ford
C.C. I went to work at GM. I married Allan Smith (North
Farmington 1965 grad) in May, 1971. We celebrated our
40th anniversary this year. We lived in Farmington Hills
until 1980 when we moved to west Michigan and settled in
Holland. My husband is an Engineer and went to GMI
(now Kettering Univ.).
We have two children. Amy (38) and Graham (35) Our
kids both graduated from Wheaton College and we have
made many trips to Chicago over the years. They are both
married and live in Connecticut (Amy) and Illinois (Graham).
Our daughter is a Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Nurse
Midwife. Our son is co-founder of a computer-related
company in Chicago.
We have four grandchildren and a baby girl due Sept. 21.
Our oldest is 6 and and they are such a joy to us. My
mother (age 87) moved to Holland in 1991 and is healthy
and active. She lives a mile away from us.
After our first child was born, I was a stay-at-home mom
for 17 years. I then went to work at our large church and
retired in 2010 after 20 years as an Admin. Assistant in the
main office and our Counseling Center. It was a wonderful
job and now I volunteer often. Retirement is great with
traveling and spending more time with things I love to do cooking, gardening, sewing, reading to name a few. We
love to travel and have been to Germany, Israel and on
several mission trips.
It is amazing how fast the years have flown since high
school days at Thurston. I am so thankful for this stage of
my life as my husband and I spend time together in retirement and enjoy to the fullest God's blessings of family and
friends.

• Married To Rich for 32 years. We have three children.
Paul and his wife are now living in Payson, AZ and he is an
ER physician. They have two little girls, three and one.
Laura lives in Tulsa, OK with her husband and two children,
a boy six and a little girl 3 years old. Laura works very part
time as a Licensed Practical Counselor. Lenair is married,
living in Grand Rapids and is a social worker for DA. Blodgett working as a therapist for teen boys and foster parents. We absolutely love being grandparents and try to
see the kids as often and we can.
Rich retired from sales for Bethlehem Steel and after the
downfall of communism from eastern Europe, started traveling to Ukraine and Eastern Europe to help the nationals
there start new Christian Churches. I have been able to
travel with him on many of the trips when they were for a
longer duration. Presently he is still committed to encourag-
ing them and has been focused primairly working with those
starting smaller churches and those that have significant
ministries to the communities. (Drug rehab homes and outreach to special needs children and their families.) He is
decreasing the number of trips and the duration (several
times a year) but still feel the call to continue the work there.
I am a registered nurse and had taught nursing for seven
years and have been employed by Butterworth Hospital
working part time for the last 31 years. Currently I work in
the outpatient surgery department and am blessed to have
a very flexible schedule which enables us to travel, visit
grandkids and enjoy some warmer weather in FL for part
of February and March. I also work as a part time independent distributor for Reliv Intl. (Nutritional and health
products).
During our smumer months we stay in northern MI on Glen
Lake and thoroughly enjoy the beauty, the rest and family
times there. We are thankful for those times and it’s a
place where the kids come for a few weeks of vacation
and family time.
Over the last ten years I have been involved with a mentoring ministry to younger women and moms through our
church which is called "Apples of Gold." I have a heart for
helping, teaching and coming alongside them to encourage and share how the Bible can speak to their lives and
problems, using Godly principles that can help them
through life. I see it as a proactive way to help families
stay together.
I would say my relationship with God through Christ, relationships with others and following what God wants me to
do has been my main focus and it will be interesting to see
where God leads me during retirement. I am so thankful
for all that I have had and experienced, especially the valued relationships. After seeing so many of our classmates
that have died, and losing several close loved ones the
past few years, I realize that life is short and always look to
enjoy the present. (That’s why it’s called a gift.) I know at
our age many have gone through many happy times and
heartaches also. I pray that you would know God’s peace,
presence, and leading through both.
I am unable to come to the reunion but want to thank all
that have put time and effort into the occasion and the
website.

• I’m presently divorced. I have two
daughters, Michele and Lisa. And I have
five grandchildren! All of them are living
in the Ann Arbor/ Detroit area, so I get to
see them often.
After graduation from Thurston, I attended one year at MSU. I then dropped
out to get married to Richard Bannon, in Lapeer. After our
two daughters started elementary school, I returned to college part time and graduated with a Bachelors degree in
Business Admin./Accounting from University of MichiganFlint. Upon graduation I started working in Finance at
Buick Motor Division in Flint. I stayed at GM through many
reorganizations, for the remainder of my career, retiring at
age 57 in 2005. I worked mostly in Flint, but also at the
Warren Tech Center and finally at the Pontiac Centerpoint
Campus. During the 1980's I ran for election to the Elba
Township Board and won several times. I served on it for
about ten years as a Trustee. I also served on the Zoning
Board of Appeals, the Planning Committee, and the Prison
Liaison Committee for the Thumb Correctional Facility.
Also in the 1980's, I don' t remember the year, I was nominated for the Athena Award in Flint. I didn't win the award
that year, but it is an honor just to be nominated.
In 1998 I relocated to St. Clair Shores, to work at the Warren
Tech Center. GM loves to constantly relocate people, especially after age 50, and from that time onward, I kept getting
reassigned between Warren and Pontiac and had an exhausting drive from St. Clair Shores to Pontiac for the last
five years at GM. I was very happy when I was offered an
early retirement and took it! I've never regretted it for a
minute. Now, as a salary retiree, I've lost most of my retiree
benefits that were promised during all of my career. I will
never buy another GM car!! I am pretty bitter about GM and
their fake bankruptcy, as you can probably tell. However,
other than that, I am very happy. Since retiring I have traveled a little. I've been to Hawaii, England, Ireland, Wales,
Scotland, and Los Angeles, CA. in the six years since retiring. I'm looking forward to the rest of my life and the
Thurston reunion.
I have not kept in touch with anyone from our class. I went
to St. Hilary for my elementary schooling and attended my
first two years of high school at Ladywood, in Livonia. So I
only spent my Junior and Senior years at Thurston. I am a
little worried that no one will remember me at the reunion.
I was the oldest of ten children and wasn't allowed to do
any after school activities because my Mother needed me
home to help her. Due to that, and being very shy as a
teenager, I didn't get to know many people in high school.
However, I am very much looking forward to coming and
having a good time at the reunion.

• Sadly Mel, my husband of 20 years, passed away in
2000. Married Jim Anderson right after graduation. Moved
to Chesterfield Twp. in 1971 and am still in the same
home. Had a daughter, Carrie, and son, Jim. Divorced but
remain friends and still see each other at all family functions. When I met Mel he had custody of his children, Rory
and Kathy, so we raised them together. With their happy
marriages they have blessed me with five grandaughters
and 5 grandsons ranging in age from 24 to 8 years. And
now I am doubly blessed with great grandkids, Mason 2
years, Blake 6 months and Emma Grace 6 weeks old.
After having so much "fun" working at Korvettes during
THS, I returned to retail after the kids started school.
Worked up to management and opened Wells Cargo
stores in Macomb, West Bloomfield and Birmingham.
They specialized in china and glassware. I loved being a
part of the building and working up to grand openings.
Great feeling of accomplishment to see it come together.
I retired early to travel and enjoy my family. A decision I
never regretted. Las Vegas is still one of my favorite
places. My kids have vacation homes near Mio, so I can
also be found there.
I do wish I had spent more time with school activities and
kept in touch with more classmates. The site you have
made is great and I thank you all involved for getting in
touch with me. Though I won't be able to be at the reunion I do plan on keeping in touch and meeting up with
old friends.

No significant other, but I do have three beautiful daughters
and seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and another
one on the way in January. They all have a very special place
in my heart and they know that. :) We all live near each other
including my dad and sister. Well, not quite all--because my
youngest daughter lives in Grand Rapids with four teenage
boys and a husband: A little to much male energy in one
place for me. Hee hee.
Well, retired early so I am working my butt off now. I do different styles of massage work in Novi at a wellness center,
and do chair massage at Botsford Hospital for their employes. (That is while friends and family are sitting back recieving checks at home. LOL)
Well I am typing this after the reunion, which, by the way,
was the best ever!!! Says everone!
I raised three girls by myself with ups and downs. They are
all very happy and in love with their partners. While they
were in their late teen years, I traveled with a girlfriend across
the states twice a year selling wholesale crystal jewerly and
semi-precious stones until they started makeing them in labs
and dying them at the mines. That was a blast. Then my girls
graduated (I met a guy go figure.) I retired early and went to
northern California and learned how to sail in the San Francisco Bay. Lived on the boat for four years and then traveled
for four years out of the country (but would come home in
the summer). Did I do this by myself? Noooo. Had a partner
for eleven years. When that ended so did the sailing. Hee
hee. I can't even begin to write down all my great encounters. From storms, tribel people, stares, whales, countrys,
food etc..I came back in time to be with my mother and help
her before she passed. Then went back to Gautemala and
helped a friend. I met a local and we opened a bed and
breakfast.
I believe my life is very blessed and I am the luckest woman,
mother, grandmother now greatgrandmother and friend and
that is the end for now.

• Wendy and I have been married for 42 years.
We have been blessed with a wonderful daughter (Lynn), a
great son-in-law (David), and the most lovable granddaughter (Isabella). Isabella is soon to be 9 years old and
is entering the 4th grade.
I was the Vice President of the Icee Company, heading up
international development. It was quite an experience as I
spent 2 weeks in the Middle East, having met and dined
with several Middle Eastern billionaires. There are stories
to tell. I departed Icee in 2008 and assumed that I was retired. Two weeks prior to last Christmas I had received a
call with an offer to head up a national beverage service
company. I get to work out of our house and I get on an
airplane every couple of weeks. So far it has been fun.
Wendy retired two years ago as an executive secretary/assistant. She is enjoying retirement and our granddaughter
immensely. Wendy makes sure that Isabella is without
want. She is the luckiest granddaughter on the planet; but
she is a good girl and deserves it. The Good Lord has
been good to us.
I was raised to always count my blessings. I can think of
no better advice.

• The past 45 years have just flown by! I
attended Yale from 1966 to 1968 and got
my Doctorate in International Affairs.
(And yes, I had a few!). After graduation I
was asked to be the General Secretary of
the UN, but turned the job down because
I was feverishly busy developing the perfect chocolate chip cookie. Which, of
course, everyone knows truly would lead
to world peace.
After joining the CIA, I opened 100 restaurants in
Botswana to use as my cover. I created such delicacies as
pickled horny toads to marinated leopard. For targets I
needed to "remove", I would offer them a meal. They were
never seen again...... I am also participating in a "think
tank" where we are working on the crisis in Libya, Egypt
and Somalia.
Currently I am a Pole Dancing Instructor, and have been on
tour with many singers, including Lady Gaga. What a fun
person she is! As luck would have it, we have the same
shoe size so I can borrow her shoes. Being with the Lady
has turned me into quite the party animal and I now have a
glitter tattoo. Cannot say where!
Even after constant and continually persistence from Al
Pacino, I am still single. He is such a pesky devil!
All and all, I am still the same redheaded girl next door.
Life is good, and I am looking forward to see all of you

• I’ve been married to Doug Fahle for 32
years. We adopted a ready-made family
of three who have made us the grandparents of three. Kathy lives in Sugarland,
Texas and is an instructor and guidance
counselor at a community college. Ann is a supervisor of
medical records and billing at Providence Hospital here in
Michigan, and Dr. Bill is an ER doc in Spokane, Washington. Needless to say, we rack up lots of frequent flyer
miles. They are the light of our lives.
I graduated from EMU in 1971 with an MA in Speech/Language Pathology. I retired in June of 2000 as a Special Education Supervisor with the Wayne County Regional
Educational Services Agency. During those years I was
lucky enough to be asked to help write a number of documents that were, and still are, used to shape special education in Michigan. I was President of the Michigan
Speech Language and Hearing Association and chaired
the public school sub-committee for several years. In the
late 1980’s I was honored to be one of 12 educators invited to share our knowledge of special education practices with educators in China. It was a thrill to teach, if for
even an hour, at the University of Beijing.
Doug and I love to travel. The continent of Africa is the last
on my travel bucket list. We both enjoy the theater in all of
its forms and loved to amaze our kids with all the wonderful performers and performances we have attended. Yes,
Elvis is on the list.

to brag) our oldest daughter is CEO of a publishing company, our second daughter is an Accounts Manager with
an Advertising firm in Schamberg, IL. (Her accounts include
Nike and Kraft) and our son is an Architect.
Our 3 wonderful grand-daughters (ages 10,5 and 3) are the
joy of my life!! We are blessed to have them live only 2
miles away.
Dave is retired from the state, but does several part-time
jobs to keep him busy. I continue to work as a nurse Certified Diabetic Educator. (CDE) My role is to teach and manage diabetics; educate, adjust insulin and medication,
teach insulin pumps and monitoring systems. With the
growing diabetes epidemic, I have job security!
In addition to the above, I owned and operated a Christian
Gift and Book Store for 8 years here in Lake Geneva. We
closed when the economy took a nose dive and we could
no longer compete with Amazon.
For those of you who haven’t tried retirement, believe me
you will enjoy it. We both sit on the board of a non-profit
organization, Adopt-A-Child-Size. The organization provides warm clothing, educational toys and books to children in families who live below the poverty level. We also
belong to an American Cocker Spaniel rescue organization. Doug golfs as much as possible and since we live on
the 12th green of a golf course he doesn’t have far to go. I
love antiques and the thrill of the hunt. I have newly become very interested in the process of repurposing found
objects. I have two e-readers and many dozens of hardcover books that keep me entertained and give me something to do when I awaken at 2 am.
Aside from spending time with the grandchildren, I am an
avid walker and enjoy doing floral design, oil painting and
quilting. We have been so blessed.
Life is good. I always tell Doug that if I die tomorrow my
life has been blessed and I have been happy. I can’t wait to
see so many of you after so many years.
The older we get, the faster life goes and we realize how
short life really is! Hope you all have a great reunion and
perhaps will see you at the 50th.!

Through the years we have come to trust the Lord more
and more and our faith has become a priority in our lives.
My husband and I are actively involved in the church and
our 3 children as well. Our son just returned from serving in

global mission group. I have had the opportunity to go to

ended, I went on a
Sierra Club trip to New Zealand in 1974, fell in love with
the place, and returned later the same year to a programming job in Wellington, a fabulous place where I still live.
On my lunch hours in the late 1970s, I started taking
courses in Old and Middle English and the history of the
English language at the university just up the hill. This
gradually took over my life and in 1982 I went to Oxford to
do a doctorate on a thirteenth-century scribe (called the
tremulous hand!) who annotated manuscripts from centuries earlier, looking at how he went about learning that
much earlier form of English. I spent six years in Oxford,
then 18 months in Toronto working on the Dictionary of Old
English before returning to New Zealand for an academic
job back in Wellington.
This all probably sounds exciting, but I spent a lot of the time
feeling completely inadequate and lonely. 1991 was turning
point for me: I married a fellow medievalist and wonderful
man, inherited two lovely step-daughters, and had my
daughter – all at the age of 43! My husband and I retired last
year and now spend as much time as possible travelling, in
between trying to finish research projects. I am very sorry to
miss this reunion and will make every effort to get to the
50th. Anyone coming to New Zealand is very welcome stay

• Divorced and currently living with my significant other
Kim McKay and we have been together for 12yrs. and
known each other for 30yrs.
I have two sons: Christopher & Nicholas, both of who are
currently working in my agencies. Kim has one daughter
currently going to college to become a Radiology/MRI
tech. Christopher recently married a wonderful lady, Dana.
They met at the University Of Oregon and have been together for 3 yrs.
Thus far my life has been divided into three chapters defined
by geography.
- First chapter was the years I spent in Michigan: Thurston
High, MSU, & Oakland University; all of which I have nothing
but fond memories.
- Second chapter was spent in Hawaii (18 yrs). The only blip
was my divorce, but I have two great sons--so life is good.
- Third chapter began in 1992 when I was tranferred to
the Pacific Nortwest. So far a great ride. Looking for the
next chapter and not sure where that may take me. I'm
sure it won't be far from my family. Sorry I couldn't attend
the reunion. I hope to see you all at the next one.

September 6.
We have 2 beautiful daughters, Cari Ann and Alison. Cari is
a Kindergarten teacher and has a son who just graduated
from Michigan State and he has plans to obtain a Physicians Assistant degree once he obtains the necessary patient experience. Alison and her husband Scott have jobs
in the Information Technology field and have a daughter
Hope Elizabeth, their son Logan Allyn was born premature
and only lived a few hours. Every year we walk in the
March of Dimes walk for premature babies in Logan's
memory. We also have 4 Grand-Dogs, Buster, Mollie, Max
and Sox all of them are rescue dogs.
For many years, I was an Executive Assistant for a bank
president, however when the "family" babies started coming I retired to be the family "Nanny" for our Nephew,
Niece and our own grandchildren. Al got a business degree and specialized in computers and telecommunications, he held management positions at Chrysler, Bank of
America, Comerica and Ford Motor Company. He was with
Ford and one of its affiliates for over 26 years before retiring this year in July.
We like to travel and have been to Hawaii several times
and Europe, we have lived in Texas, California and Germany but Michigan was always home and we retuirned to
Michigan in 1980. We lived in Canton Township for over 27
years and now reside in Superior Township which is between Canton and Ann Arbor.
We cherish our years at THS and all the people we hung out
with. All the late nights making floats for the homecoming
parade, all the sporting events and dances. Al is especially
proud of his track and field accomplishments while at THS
and still holds the Long Jump record after all these years.
We plan to enjoy retirement, continue to travel and spend a
lot of time with our family. We all live within 15 minutes of
each other and love to get together for birthday parties, anniversary celebrations and going out to dinner as a family.

• Married to Peggy; we just celebrated our 11th anniversary. Divorced from Mary Kay (Cesare, also THS '66).
I have a son, Richard (39), with Mary Kay. Rich works for
General Dynamics, a major defense contractor in Phoenix.
He supervises several programs but since they are all classified, he won't tell me about them; otherwise he will have
to kill me! Heather, Rich's wife, raises and trains dogs for
obedience trials. Grandson Ryan is seven and like most
kids his age, knows everything!
Stepdaughter: Summer (36), is Peggy's daughter and runs
a "new age" shop in Ypsilanti where she sells books and
gifts and does tarot readings.
Two cats: MeToo,10 and Pookie, 9.
Peggy and I are both retired public school educators. We
met while Peggy was teaching and I was an administrator
at Oxford Area Schools in Oakland County. Peggy taught
English and Speech and directed numerous plays in nine
school districts in Michigan and Arizona during a 36 year
career. She served as supervisor of adult education while
at Bronson Public Schools.
I taught over twenty years in Grand Blanc where I also
coached track and cross country. Later, I was a building
principal in five other school districts during my 35 year
career. I was included in "Who's Who Among America's
Teachers" in 2006, though I am not sure why. I retired in
2005, a little earlier than planned due to a serious encounter with bladder cancer. The disease has returned
three times in the past five years but thanks to a very
skilled and conscientious doctor, I continue to be healthy
and active.
Since retiring, Peggy has pursued an avid interest in antiques and painting. I have continued my interest in running, though I am slower with each passing year. I am also
taking guitar lessons; at my current rate of progress I will
need lessons for the foreseeable future.
From her parents,Peggy inherited a century-old farmhouse
near Coldwater, MI. It needs much renovation but she and
I are making plans for an eventual move to the country.
Once there, we may share lodgings with the ghost of
Peggy's great grandfather who has been spotted a number
of times over the years.
I am very saddened to learn of the passing of so many
classmates. They are fondly remembered.

Dennis and I have been married for 43 years, and have two
children. We have lived most of the time in Michigan. Have
traveled some to Hawaii, Alaska, Australia twice and my
favorite New Zealand. We moved to Florida 3 years ago
and have enjoyed the Cape Coral area.
We have two children and two granddaughters. Our son
Chris, is in the U S Navy and is making a career of it. He
has almost 15 years in and is stationed in Hawaii. Come
November he will be moving to a new duty station on the
East Coast, making it much easier for nana and papa to
visit. Amen to that. It’s been awful for them to be so far
away, but I’m thankful he's not overseas!
Our daughter Kim has been going to school to become a
veterinarian. She almost finished and we will be happy for
that. It's been a long time for her; at least 8 years.
NOW: Our granddaughters. We have Jessica, who is 8 years
old and is sweet and adorable. She loves swimming and has
learned to surf while in Hawaii. This is a child that screamed
like you were killing her 3 years ago if she was splashed in the
pool. A big accomplishment for her!
Our second granddaughter, Samantha, is 4. She is the one
that will give her daddy a run for his money. He better start
polishing those guns up for the boyfriends that will be calling.
Dennis's job includes a lot of travel. He is an executive
conference moderator and consultant. His company is in
Kansas City, but business takes him from coast to coast.
We have not retired yet, but look forward to that.
We love being in Cape Coral, and spend a lot of time on
the water. We have a 32 ft. Carver and have taken it to
Key West. I have lots of stories of our boating vacations!
Some good and some not so good.

we our grandparents for the first time. Our oldest son Cary
and his wife had a beautiful girl and named her Kathryn
Olive, after my mom. Kyle, our youngest continues his history pursuit and is currently an assistant curator at the
Arab American museum in Dearborn.
I retired from Ford after 34 years in management but continue
to work the summers for the Dept. of Natural Resources. My
first degree from Michigan State was in wildlife biology so
after 40 or so years I get to use some of the knowledge.
For the past 21 years, Lois an I have spent 2-3 weeks
every winter on some Caribbean island. This year we redid
a trip from 6 years ago and stayed on Anguilla and did the
carnival on St. Barths. Along with Virgin Gorda, those are
our favorite islands. Next years trip is still in the planning

11th is due in next month. We also have one great-grandson who will be one next month. Like most grandparents,
they are such a joy to us.
I am retired now but through my career field I have found
that I enjoy caring for the elderly on a one-to-one basis the
best. They are very interesting and are most appreciative
of anything you can do to help them. As I get older I'm
finding I can relate to them even more. That's a little scary.
While the first 30 yrs after graduation were what I refer to
as my "learning experience" (I was always a slow learner),
the past 15 yrs makes the tough times worth the "experience". I have been able to travel over much of the U.S.,
Europe and the Carribean. Dale and I were snowbirds for
about 8 yrs enjoying the wam weather of the Florida Gulf

As for me, I have owned my own business for the past
thirty three years as a custom home builder. I have been
married to my wife, Carolyn, for the past twenty years. I
was married once before in 1971. My first wife passed
away at the age of 34. If anyone is interested in what I
have been doing for the past 35 years they can visit my
website: http://www.jehemphill.com/
After graduation from THS, I went to Alma College graduating with a French major, a business administration minor
and a teaching certificate. A college highlight was a semester of junior year studying in Paris. Jim and I met during our first year's work... teaching at Pearson Junior in
Redford Union for me and Jim, a commercial loan officer at
Comerica Bank (formerly Detroit Bank and Trust). We had
the good fortune to be assigned to DB&T's London, England branch from 1980-1982, which included lots of travel,
skiing, sailing, and being in the local time zone for the
wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Back in
MI, I stayed home with our 2 daughters volunteering in
schools and the community until Abby was in middle
school at which time I started subbing in Birmingham Public Schools and then taught at Marian High School. During
this time, I was a board member and board president of
New Horizons, an organization specializing in rehabilitation
and vocational services for people with disabilities located
in Oakland County, but serving southeastern MI. Our
daughter with cognitive disabilities provided insight into
that population.

We have had a great life with lots of skiing in various parts
of the world, some golf, some sailing, lots of gardening
(flowers) in MI, and lots of time spent cooking and eating
with great friends. When Jim retired, we moved full time to
Eagle County, CO. I am currently a mountain volunteer
during the ski season at Vail where I answer questions,
give tours of the mountain and where Jim is a ski instructor. We love the life here, with hardly a dull moment. We're
very active with the Episcopal church in Vail and with the
Vail chapter of the food and wine group, Chaine des Rotisseurs. During the "dull" moments here, we enjoy traveling,
biking, hiking, and generally doing something active.

that be? Didn't we just graduate?)
Our beautiful and talented daughter,
Jennifer Evenstar (can you tell we were
around in the 60's?) is about to be married to Joe Prenkert (great guy)!
My career? Hmmm ... hard to say ... I'm
still trying to figure out what I'm going to
be when I grow up (Cheryl would like that
to be soon, since she maintains household sanity and revenue as a RN at
Havenwyck Hospital in Auburn Hills) ... in the meantime, I
keep busy writing ... I have two books out ... Northern
Cross and Headwind (if you're bored and so inclined, you
can find out more about them on my website: www.northerncrossonline.com). I also get together on quasi-regular
basis with THS '66 grads, Bob Salmonson and Rob Nelson
(and friends) to bang some chords and make some noise
... we have a blast!
I think I've said enough already ... but I gotta say my time
at THS was awesome ... I really cherish the memories and
friendships I made there.

My California home base has been in LaJolla and Palo

and enjoying the world class museums of San Francisco. I
joined a sailing club, and attended French cooking classes
for many years.
I travel "home" to Northville to see my family and head to
the quaint downtown for family dinners and sharing stories. Staying in touch with my best buddies from Michigan
State, and Thurston are important, and keep my connections "wired"on Facebook, Twitter, and in the Silicone Valley "just connected" by Blackberries, and all the neat high
tech stuff out here. I live 2 miles from Facebook.
Funny story time: Mark Zuckerberg came to Palo Alto in
2003 to "rent a house". My closest friend and her husband
just bought a bigger home in Palo Alto and wanted to "rent
out" their 3 bedroom Eichler built in the 50's. Mark came to
the door and offered lower rent and "some Facebook
Shares for the rest." Of course, who knew the outcome of
this offer? Anyway, these freinds said no, but if you saw
the movie, "Social Network," the other side of the story is
that they "still have a house". In the movie, the Facebook
Team wrote code deep into the night and basically ran a
zip line over the pool, and "trashed" the house. I was not
there, so the trashing may be fiction, but it’s a great story
around the Stanford Campus that makes everyone laugh
hysterically. The only one who isn't laughing is Mark, who
lives nearby with his "medical student who attends the
University of San Francisco.

Jenn is a State grad, Heather a U of M grad, Boston University MA. Jenn works for MEA, Heather is an Occupational Therapist, living in Astoria OR. My daughters both

swimmers, and active 4-Hers showing horses and sheep.
My grandson is now riding my horse that his mother took
state 4-H honors with. I am the happy momma of my Australian Shepherd, Glory, and the sad gramma of my recently departed English Bulldog, Diesel.
I taught school for 32 years, retired 8 years ago. As a retiree, I garden, sew quilts, bowl in 2-3 leagues, travel, take
TaeKwonDo lessons, and ride my Harley. Last summer,
my bike and I saw the Pacific Ocean in May and the Atlantic Ocean in August. I am trying to learn to golf--and
find that much more frustrating than bowling.
I have a sticker on my helmet that reads "It's never too late
to have a happy childhood." I am now doing many of the
things I had always dreamed of doing. I keep challenging
myself and love meeting those challenges. My good friend
had a heart attack with bypass surgery and that made me

attack it with passion. So...onward to new heights. Bless

• I married for Love. Pamela Love, to be
exact, on Dec 28, 1970. Amazingly, she
is still with me after over 40 years! I had
finished my 2nd year at that all boys Boat
School in Annapolis when I met her on
July 7, 1968 (yep, I still celebrate that
date with her). Seeing her after being at
that semi-cloistered institution for 2 years
naturally made me think only of having intellectual conversations and long walks
together with this beautiful girl, usually to art museums and
operas, with maybe an occasional handshake at the end of
the day. Naturally, I always insisted that one or both of her
parents accompanied us. Anyway, the only mistake I
made with her was bringing her to one of our reunions
(25th, I think). Since then, all my classmates would rather
she came than me! By the way, Pam is actually considered an expert in the use of scent for industrial and military
applications, the latter primarily for troops training to go to
Afghanistan (ask me about th
e incredibly interesting details about that!)
Pam and I have 3 kids, all now married. Stacy lives in
Charlottesville, VA, with husband Mike and our only 4
Grandkids (so far), the 4th just being born Aug 15 (girl).
Stacy works part time as a private accountant, while Mike
works full time as one at a hedge fund company, flying C130’s on the side as a Naval Reserve pilot. Kelly got married a year ago to Darrell, an associate professor of
economics at that Boat School I went to, and they live in
Baltimore. Kelly is a product developer at Under Armour
corporate headquarters there. Evan is a Navy Knighthawk
(aka Blackhawk) helicopter pilot, married two years now to
our wonderful daughter-in-love, Risa. Evan returns to San
Diego from an 8 month deployment in early September,
during which he flew those rescue missions in Japan after
the earthquake/tsunami hit. Our favorite pet over the years
was our dog, Hover, born in 1972. He died in 1988, but remains an integral part of our family even though he is still
dead.
Three weeks after THS graduation, I naively entered Boat
School (aka U.S. Naval Academy) figuring, how tough
could it be to go there so I could be a Navy pilot one day?
I learned how hard within a couple of hours! Plus, they almost succeeded in making me humble there. No chance.
After graduation with a B.S. in Engineering in 1970, I went
to flight school in Pensacola, flying airplanes and helos,
and getting my wings on St. Patrick’s Day, 1972. I had a
Diet Coke to celebrate that day... I spent just over 6 years
in the Navy, primarily as a helicopter flight instructor. Later
on, I added 14 more years in the Naval Reserves, also flying part time as a flight instructor.
After getting out of the Navy, we lived in Lynchburg, VA,
where I worked on nuclear fuel design (the mechanical
part), and got a Masters Degree in Engineering. Beautiful
state. We moved back to Pensacola in 1981, where I
started work as an engineer with Westinghouse. When
they closed the plant in 1996 (wasn’t MY fault!), I transferred with W to Orlando, where we still live. Westinghouse was bought by Siemens around the turn of the
century, and I now have over 30 years with the company,
working on power generation equipment design. Nobody
here knows exactly what I do (think Wally from Dilbert
comic strip) and I like it that way.

My job is enjoyable, I have plenty of vacation time, and my
boss is my best friend at work. I could retire any time, but
no hurry with a set-up like that! Probably will, though, in a
couple of years and as we get more Grandkids to visit here
and there.
My years at THS are still some of the best years of my life.
We had a great class and it is evident by how we all try to
stay in touch and are determined to get together every 5
years to rehash those days. I know most of you come to
reunions because you know I’ll be there, but me, I like seeing everybody!
Life is good. We have been blessed. Best advice I can

years old and is sweet and adorable. She loves swimming
and has learned to surf while in Hawaii. This is a child that
screamed like you were killing her 3 years ago if she was
splashed in the pool. A big accomplishment for her!
Our second granddaughter, Samantha, is 4 years old. She
is the one that will give her daddy a run for his money. He
better start polishing those guns up for the boyfriends that
will be calling.
Dennis's job includes a lot of travel. He is an executive conference moderator and consultant. His company is in
Kansas City, but business takes him from coast to coast.
We have not retired yet, but look forward to that.
We love being in Cape Coral, and spend a lot of time on the
water. We have a 32 ft. Carver and have taken it to Key
West. I have lots of stories of our boating vacations! Some
good and some not so good. Once I told my children goodbye, meaning I thought I was going to die. Thank God we
made it back. And that trip was on Lake Huron!
Me, I stayed home untill the kids were in Jr high. I did daycare for a teacher, then for a doctor, and finally the last was for
a pro-football player. If I couldn't be with my kids then I had
someone else's to take care of. I love, love, love kids. Babies
are my specialty, my passion and nothing is more precious.

of the Lake Sunapee Country Club, while we build a house on
property we own in New London.
I am enjoying retirement, and living in a small college town in
the mountains.
I have had the opportunity to travel, live, and teach in many
places, here in the United States and abroad.
Thanks to the Meadowbrook Writing Project, I've had the joy
of opening a paperback book, and seeing my work "in print".
My life has been full of incredible experiences and images.
Whether teaching school at the end of the runway on Yokota
Air Base in Japan, finding my grandmother's childhood farm in
Ireland, walking the ancient walls, streets and castles of Europe, or backpacking on Isle Royale, my life has been great.
As for the future, who knows. I'd like to keep traveling, and
maybe even publish that children's book I started so many
years ago.
May we all "Live long and prosper."

• Marital status I am married to Larry Boehms. We have
been married since July of 2004. Larry and I were colleagues in the Troy (Mi.) School District and have known
each other for 23 years. My late husband,Mike Naccarato,
passed away very suddenly in April of 2002.
Kids/Grandkids: Larry and I have a dog daughter,Gracie.
Larry has three grown children and five grandchildren.
Career: After graduating from MSU in 1970, I worked as a
teacher, curriculum administrator and principal in four
Michigan school districts. My last position was principal of
Schroeder Elementary School in Troy. I worked in Troy for
17 years. In June of 2005, I retired after working for 36
years in public education. It was the best career ever!!
In 1998 Schroeder was named a Blue Ribbon, Exemplary
School. We flew to Washington, to meet the President and
along with 50 other schools, accept an award.
In retirement a friend and I have a small staging business
and work for several local realtors here in Arizona.
Retiring and moving to Arizona in 2005, has afforded me
the opportunity to become an avid hiker. We belong to a
local hiking club and Larry is a hike leader. I also belong to
a neighborhood book club and volunteer a day a week at
the local food bank.
My passion is traveling. We've been to Ireland, Scandinavia,Spain,Italy and Greece in the past five years. In August we spent two weeks on the gorgeous Oregon coast.
Best wishes to all for a wonderful 45th reunion!!

who also live here in Colorado.
In the past 45 years I’ve had the good fortune to have
worked and lived in Dallas, Phoenix, NYC and Madrid.
Moved back to Denver in the mid ‘70s and am here for
good. I’ve worked for myself in the field of marketing since
1980 when I sued my last employer, RE/MAX International,
for sex discrimination. (A 5-year long battle but I won.) I
also created the hot air balloon for R/M when I was their
VP/Marketing. (Unfortunately--I do not get royalties.) I’m
semi-retired now, doing occasional marketing projects, but
recently started a new Internet business, creating pet portraits from photos. It’s the most fun business I’ve ever
owned--and very rewarding!
I’ve been very lucky. I’ve got good health, a sweet family,
and it’s been a (mostly) great 45 years in which Phil and I
have travelled the globe, and enjoyed a wonderful life. We
don’t take as many of the big trips as we used to, but I’ve
got photography, golf, grandkids, girlfriends, the computer,
and my new little pet portrait business to keep me busy.
I truly enjoyed my involvement with helping organize this
event, but it was very difficult every time we discovered
another classmate had passed away. It certainly puts a
perspective on life’s little problems.

We also have three Cockers: Champ, Snoopy, Jerry.
I was fortunate to have a wonderful husband that worked
very hard so that I could stay home and raise the kids. We
are looking forward to retirement but I must learn to stop
shopping first. My husband is working on an invention he
calls a "shopping collar". It was originally for the dogs but
he wants me to wear it and then he will follow me into the
stores and push the button when I pick up something I already have.
I have been very fortunate to have a happy and healthy
family. We also have great friends that we see often. We
have lived in Brighton for the past 16 years and enjoy
boating and golf in the summer. In the winter we like to
cruise. This year it will be on the NCL Epic which goes to

Married to Dick Shaw for 33 years in September.
I have a stepson - Wyatt - who currently lives in Greenville,
SC and works for a law firm in Atlanta. No grandchildren,
but we get to dogsit for a beautiful white lab named Sadie
when he and his fiance go out of town.
My sister now lives in Mexico and my brothers are in Minnesota and Midland, MI. My Mom is still in Livonia.
I'm still working for a little while longer. I've been in the insurance industry for over 40 years and am now a remote
employee for a company in Tampa, FL that performs arbitration service to resolve disputes between insurance companies. Working from home makes it much easier - no
commute, no need to dress up, etc., but I'm glued to the
computer and on conference calls all day.
We live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains - lots of
trees and hills. The border of our property is a creek that
separates us from a golf course. We can now understand
most of what our SC-native friends say. Their accents (especially after a few beers) were a challenge. There are
quite a number of northern transplants here too who
wanted to get out of the long winter but still wanted all four
seasons. We found we missed that when we lived in
southern California.
If I've learned anything in my life, it's that life is what you
make of it. Difficult times are inevitable, but they are always
more than offset by the really, really good times if you open
your eyes and appreciate them. Dick and I have lived in a
number of different places and states in the US that presented different challenges and rewards and we've grown as
individuals and as a couple by experiencing them together.
Honestly, high school for me was one small phase in my
life and I am actually surprised about how little I remember
about it. I guess that's another important lesson I've
learned - to be aware of the "now" because it won't be
around very long and it's important to remember what
happened "then."

been married 18 years has two children Lauren 15 &
Austin 12. Tammy at age 40 just became a pilot...something her husband has enjoyed doing for about 15 years.
Stacy has been married 13 years & has two children:
Brooke 9 & Travis 6. Stacy is a M.S.U. grad & is a speech
pathologist with the Holly Schools & her husband has just
finished going to college & went into physical therapy...can
you tell we're soooooooooooo very proud !!!
Regarding my career, well where do I start ????? It all
seems to be a blurr after so many years...I guess the last
22 years seem to be a good start..I have co-owned The
Milford Bakery for the last 22 years and still love my business & the town of Milford. It Is alot of hard work...but we
do have hard workers and that is a blessing. Our building
burnt down in a fire only 7 months after we bought the
business......the building next door to us caught fire &
burnt us down too. Soooooooooooo we re-built & have
continued to grow year by year. I am leaning towards retiring soon, as my business partner is having some health
problems, and since my hubby has already been retired 12
years from the Oakland County Sheriff Dept. & he is
soooooooooo ready to start traveling :) Life is good...our
family is our life ( I'm still lucky to have both my parents) &
we realize friends are an added blessing ! Having a husband like mine has been one of life’s greatest gifts ( BUT
don't ask him if thats a ditto ) jk
I've already gone on about myself & my wonderful family.....but as I read some of my classmates comments &
memories I think was I really involved ....yes I was there &
loved it all but sometimes we were all so busy trying to do
it all....I guess much like life today...it all becomes a
blurr..... I loved being part of The Class Of 1966 :)

• Married to my sweet husband Bill for 30 years. He is
working for the Veterans Administration downtown and has
a long drive. He'd like to retire now but can't for a few
more years. Then its travel-time!
We have four wonderful daughters: Wendy, Laurie, Heather
and Claire...and two cats. I have 8 grandkids ranging in
age from 17 months to 15 years old. We have a 9th on the
way due in Feb. I am thankful every day to be so blessed.
I am a retired R.N. Worked lots of different jobs but my favorite was OB and home care. Moved out to Howell 7
years ago and love the slower pace. Dread going back to
the crazy traffic of Novi.
I am spending my retirement at a relaxing pace and I love it.
I spend my time doing my favorite things: gardening, guitar
lessons, decorative painting, reading, camping, listening to
music (and dancing) to classic rock and the blues. I get together with my 2 best friends for breakfast and shopping-Gaye Marshall and Barb Gutzeit, whom I am grateful for
being my best friends since 3rd grade! I spend a great
deal of time with my children and grandchildren (just call
me grammy) and am grateful they all live in the area.
If I were to make a statement to the Class of 66, it would
be that if I was able to go back and change things, I 'd
work on coming out of my shell of shyness and participate
in extra activities like clubs and plays. I missed out on a
lot. I really liked track and field sports in junior high
(Pierce)...did pretty well (Gaye Marshall was my "coach!)
But it didn't continue in high school until many years later.
Still, I think Thurston was a good school and I made many
friends there. Go Eagles!!!

10-22-66, God took him home on 3-4-09. We had 42.5
years together. On our 40th anniversary he decided to extend our marriage contract for another 20 years.
I have two beautiful daughters, Heather & Megan. Heather
has twin boys, Cameron & Stanley (14). They are freshman
who play on the Varsity Soccer team, have done NHS
Quizbowl. Alex (7) plays soccer and Haiden (5) who also
plays soccer. Of course their mother coaches the youth 14
league. Megan has Meiah (6). She loves soccer and Zeial
(4) . Both girls know 2 languages, one more than me.
They’re all fish...it didn't hurt that they had swimming lessons by 10 months old, because of our place on Torch.
Megan stopped her education to have her family, but this
month finishes her last year at U of M .
We lived on Torch Lake and raised our girls there. Always
doing stuff on the lake, all seasons, went to Music Festivals, Ethnic Festivals (strong in our Celtic Ancestry), involved with Traverse City Old Towne Playouse (acting,
directing, costumes etc) hunting, fishing and riding our
Harley was all part of the family fun. I was lucky enough to
be able to stay home when the girls were little, then
worked later on. We had a good, loving life, fortunately.
We were going to retire this last July, had all his toys,
boats, travel trailer, etc for retirement. So now I am learning
all over again who I am and what I want. Children & grandchildren are a big part of my life. Have continued to travel
at least once a year, but with the twins now. Last summer
we went to DC & Pentagon. This last April we were on site
for the Endeavor blast off and to fulfill my husband’s wish
that the boys see the Space Center. In 2014 there is a
Gathering in Scotland so we will go to that. Life is so different than what we planned. Still spend time at Torch, of
course. That is where Roger is.
Purchased a Condo in Westland, to be semi near the girls.

accounting offices and am on the Committee for the Relay

our kids live close enough to us so that we can still get together for birthdays etc.
After starting off at Centeral Michigan to play football, it
didn't take me long to discover that I was the smallest kid
on the field. After two years of bouncing off people, I transfered to Oakland University. I graduated with a B.A/M.A.
in education. I worked in the public schools for 33 years.
For 20 years of that time I was also a fire fighter/EMT in the
community where I lived. I also was an instructor for Fire
Service classes. I retired as Chief of the fire department.
I still work part time for the City of Plymouth, in Michigan.
Maryann and I have a court transcript buisness which we
run at home. And we have been very busy. Which means
there is still not enough time to play golf !
High School was a blast.
The thing that strikes me the most about growing up with
all of you, is that it seems like such a different time back

• Married my first and only love Dave 44 years ago. We got
married when I was only 19 and we have 1 son, Scott, whom
is 41. I sure don't feel like I should have a child that old. We
also have 3 grandchildren, David, Stephen, and Charlene
"Charlie". They are our greatest joy in life. I always tell people
that there is no love deeper than a Grandmothers love than
her Grandkids. We are so proud of them.
Dave and I have owned our own pizza business in Harrison, MI for 7 years, then came back to the city. I worked
in retail for 18 yrs at KMart then 10 yrs for CVS. Now I have
been retired for 2 years. I am sure enjoying not getting up
to go to work.
Through the years we have enjoyed gardening, boating in
our younger years, and traveling. And now we look forward
to spending some winter time in Florida.

• Married to Gloria for 9 years. I have three children, from
a previous marriage, and Gloria has two. My oldest son is
a psychologist, doing his undergrad work at MSU, then
getting his Psy.D, at Forest Institute. His wife also has her
Psy.D. and presented us with our first grandchild, earlier
this year. My younger son is a MSU grad and earned his
M.S. at Rush University, in Chicago. He is now a cardiac
perfusionist, with one of our major hospital systems, here
in Michigan, and got married in June of this year. His wife
teaches art at a local elementary school, is a professional
artist herself, and is finishing her master's degree this fall.
My daughter is a licensed vet tech and after graduating
from MSU, was offered a position there, at the Diagnostic
Center for Population and Animal Health. Gloria's daughter
is a U of M grad and has taken a management position,
with a telecommunications firm, in the Southwest. Her son
enlisted in the Navy, after high school and since his discharge has attended EMU and will be graduating next year,
as well as getting married then.

Department, at Henry Ford College for several years. With
the kids grown and out of the house, we're still not empty

Chet is in the computer business, so he is still pretty busy out
here in Silicon Valley. We also have a few ranches and cattle
dispersed around the west, so that business adds a different
variety to our life. We love to travel and Chet hunts, so we've
been know to explore the mountains and plains of various
countries. Our last trip was Alaska in July, as I enjoy fishing
and we have a freezer full to prove it. It's easy to keep up
with all the exercise we love to do as the weather and mountains here provide the perfect incentive to get up and out.
I've been hooked on SPIN cycling for 10 years and am a certified instructor now learning to combine yoga with my SPIN

• Married to the man of my dreams, Donald (Don) forty
four years this December 2nd 2011. We have two adult
children, Don (43), and a daughter, Melissa (34).
Don and I are very proud of them both.
I am retired now. In the past I worked as a sales rep for a Pharmaceutical company. That was a great job with awesome
sales meetings in resort towns like South Padre Island, etc.
I worked for the American Cancer Society. I managed their
Discovery resale shops in Livonia and downtown Plymouth.
I currently help to care for my 90 year old mom. (Still in our
old home in Redford.)
My day starts at 7am. I enjoy going to exercise classes in
the am. I do cardio,-circuit , power flex, Step, Jazzercise,
and Boot Camp on alternating days 6 times a week. I get a
big kick out of some of the "oldie" music. It brings back
fond memories of my days at THS. I laugh to myself because most of the younger people there have never even
heard these songs.
This past year I lost nearly 40 pounds. I also made Lifetime
member at Weight Watchers. I know I am in better shape
now than when I was in High School.
I feel great and am truly blessed to be granted such good
health.
Don (husband), and I like to travel to Florida to see our
good friends . We take many "short excursions" around
our beautiful state also. Don is retired from Dean Sellers
Ford Dealership where he worked for 30 years. He waited
one year and he is now working part-time for Dealer Auto.

• John Zerhan and I reconnected during the
THS 15 year reunion. We were together until
his untimely death in Tucson October 2002.
We spent 21 wonderful years together. He
was a very gentle and loving man.
This past June, I retired from The University of Arizona College of Nursing. I
spent 10 years at the UA College of Nursing as Assistant Dean, Student Affairs.
Prior to my move to Arizona, I worked 21
years in a similar capacity at Wayne State University's
School of Social Work and College of Nursing. I am extremely fortunate to have had such a rewarding career.
The work allowed me to be part of the higher education
experience of thousands of students who became social
workers and nurses making a positive difference in the
lives of so many.
I am now getting acclimated to the life of a retiree. Tucson
is a wonderful place to spend retirement. It seems as
though I am living in a resort...swimming year round, incredible sunsets, surrounded by mountains, and beautiful
desert terrain. Where else does one get a holiday each
February for the Rodeo! I find that my "old" Detroit area
friends visit often and my new Tucson friends are a joy.
My congratulations to the small group of classmates who
have done such a wonderful job organizing this event.

I'm known as DG (Disco Grandma) and I provide day care
one day a week for this awesome child!
I retired from the public school system in 2005 after working in both the state of Michigan mental health system and
public schools. I worked many years as a case manager
for people with developmental disabilities in the institution
and community. I developed a human sexuality unit to address sexual abuse issues and education. When there was
a shortage of special education teachers, I decided to
make a change. At 50, I started a new career. I taught severely mentally impaired students in Wyandotte and then
taught special education in Inkster at the high school and
middle school. I would say that was my hardest job ever,
but I survived and learned so much. I also attended graduate school at EMU. When I became eligible for retirement, I threw in the teaching towel. I was ready for a
break. I feel lucky that my career allowed me to be of
service to others while I made a living!
I am a busy person. Even though I'm retired, I still don't
have time to clean the house! I take jazz and tap dance,
pilates, and zumba in an effort to say in shape. I love gardening, reading, biking, dancing, socializing, traveling and
camping. I hope to stay healthy and have as much fun as I
can with my friends and family. I plan to live until I die.
I have always loved the class of '66! The people are special as evidenced by their efforts in putting together this reunion. I really belong to the class of '67, but I have been
adopted by the class of '66 and I am very thankful!!

Career: I got a master's degree in health care administation. After 6 years of developing new programs for reviewing quality and appropriate use of services in nursing
homes and hospitals, I worked for a small hospital for 9
years in administration. Twenty years ago I started my
own business helping hospitals by working with doctors to
improve their clinical documentation: thus improving quality scores and reimbursement.
It's fun helping others and I do not have any plans to retire
for at least 10 more years, although I do plan to take more
vacations and travel more.
I have always remembered my high school years with fondness; some of the best years of my life. I remember our
great swimming and wrestling teams, going to football and
basketball games. And I remember loving tennis even if the
team was not all that successful, we had a great time.
I think having a twin made life a lot easier. Denny and I remain close, although he has been in Texas for at least 30
years. Our conversations always just pick up where they
left off. And we always hit the courts when we are together. After high school, life got a lot harder as we went
our separate ways. We both look with humor at our high
school thought: "We felt confident ‘we’ could be President." While it is absurd thought for multiple reasons, it
gives a little insight into the comfort level of growing up as
a twin. But when we went our own ways, wow, what a
loss of power! I describe it by showing people my two
hands intertwined. That is how we grew up. But when we
separated (now only 1 hand) you all of a sudden realize all
the skills the other twin carried for you. There was a lot to
learn about living that you all (as normal single people)
took for granted. Denny became a Psychiatrist. He recently commented to me: they need a completely different
Psychiatric Manual for identical twins. What is in there just
does not apply, and our reality of what life is like, well it
isn't in that book.

stay at home Mom for the most part then went into bookkeeping at a lumber company, moved on to a log home
builder and then finally a accounting firm from where I
stopped also along the was I was PR person for McDonalds
in West Branch, Houghton Lake this was a interesting job to
say the least but now I'm glad I'm where I am, RETIRED.
Life has been up and down just like everyone else. I really
don't have any plans for the future take it day by day, couple of my children are not in the best of health so I am with
them a lot,, I love to travel and my favorite is to cruise with
Carnival, as much as I can, I'm a huge craft lady and love
to make or do anything right now the big thing is Scrapbooking. We have a group of about 16 including my sister,
sister in law, nieces, granddaughter, daughter we do weekends an scrap whenever we can, nice family project. To
many of my classmates I think of you often and wonder
what and where, because I live in northern Michigan I don't
run into any of you often I only hope that all have had a
wonderful life like we planned in 1966

• Married Lou Vendittelli in 1973; then
we got divorced -- but didn't get that
right either...so we remarried in 1996. So,
we have either been married 33 or 38
years.
We have two daughters, Amanda, 31,
and Analise, 25. Amanda, who is an attorney, married a guy from Michigan and
they have a brand new baby, Trey -- what
an absolute joy that child is to his grandma! And, lucky for
me, they live just a few miles away. Analise is in her third
year of medical school at University of Virginia - but fortunately she makes frequent trips to Florida. My little boys,
Ben and Small, are two Yorkies who follow me everywhere.
Perhaps you saw Small when he was a featured in a story
on Fox News about the Pet Food Recall.
I graduated from MSU - intending to teach...but never did.
After we got married, Lou and I moved to New York. After
a year of cold, cold, and more cold, we decided that we
would move to Florida and chose Miami - because, well,
why not? We stayed there from 1974 until a career move
for Lou brought us to the Orlando area about five years
ago. I've been able to see quite a few classmates when
they came to town to visit Mickey!
I enjoy exercising, reading, visiting friends in Miami, doing
genealogy and now, spending any time I can with my new
grandson.
My parents, and my brother, Greg, still live in Michigan and I
travel there to visit when I can't convince them to come to FL.
Special thanks to Linda and Kathy for all the laughs and
making the search for our classmates so much fun! I have
to admit to getting up in the night to see what the news
was from the West Coast -- who had been located, what
their story was....just an all-around good time! My thanks,
too, to everyone who let us know that they re-connected
with old friends! What a rewarding project this has been.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in October.

years. We have three daughters two are
living in Michigan and our oldest lives in

grandchildren, two grandsons and a
granddaughter.
Grandkids are certainly a lot more fun
than kids !
I've retired from two jobs and am currently working on my third career.
Getting kind of old though and hope to retire for good in a
couple of years. Right now I'm a Facility Manager for
Comcast in the metro Detroit area.
My wife and I are involved with a Christian Seminary in
Central African Republic and try to get there at least once
a year to work and teach. Our ministry also is involved
with clean water projects in western Kenya, a ministry to
street people in Nakuru, Kenya, and a ministry to a girl's
school in the northwest portion of Kenya.
After we retire for good, we hope to spend more time with
the ministry in Africa (added bonus - to get out of Michigan
in the winter!).

• I'm married to Martin Homan, we have just celebrated
our 40th Anniversary this year. We met 45 yrs ago on the
bus downtown through a friend I grew up with.
Marty & I have a daughter Michelle and son Brian and their
equally wonderful spouses. Between them both we have 7
fantastic grandchildren: Brian has three daughter's ages 12,
10, and 7. Our daughter Michelle has a daughter 8, and three
sons ages 6, 4, and 8 months. They all are the love of our life.
I worked at Manufacturers National Bank downtown Detroit for five years, quit when we started our family. When
the children were very young, I took in babysitting for a
short while and during that time worked also at Hughes
Hatcher Suffrins under Andy Vafakos, one of our former
classmates. I also started a cake and candy business during this time for the next fourteen years with several business accounts as GM, Garden City Hosp. and such. After
having shoulder problem,s I had to give this up and went
into the floral industry for 7 years which I loved very much.
When Marty lost his job of 35 yrs with Ameritech, he was
off for a year. During that time I transitioned from the floral
industry back into office work holding my own GM consolidated account for all divisions. I did a twice a week consolidated mailing to 9200 GM dealers cross country at that
time, and also was in charge of the service bulletins to
print and distribute. I retired from there to take care of an
elderly aunt and my own mother. There is not a day in my
life that I can say is boring.
I love going through antique stores for the unusual; decorating is always a passion; making time for my grandchildren and my mother. Having contact with friends and
family is most important to me. If someone needs help, I
drop what I'm doing to be there for them if I can.
My years at Thurston were quiet years for me somewhat.
Due to my father's job and one car, I was not allowed to participate in any extra activities. I always wanted to be involved
more and accepted by my peers so much then. Getting older
changes the way you look at life and people. I had some
wonderful classmates that accepted me for who I was no
matter what and for that I will always be grateful.
I'm trying to get my husband to consider retirement sometime soon, so we may enjoy more of life together. He is a
workaholic, works full time and teaches parttime for the
University of Phoenix as an IT instructor. I've learned you
need to take time and smell the roses now, because they
may not be there tomorrow. Having lost so many friends
and family at young ages makes you appreciate life so
much more.
I'm sorry I could not be there this year as planned. My husband’s brother started a fund raiser that is the same day as
this years reunion. We recently lost him and was asked as
a family if we could be at this year’s fundraiser in his name
since he was one of the founders. I hope to stay in touch
with some of you and will be looking forward to the next
reunion. It's been fun catching up with you all!

• Single--with no kids or grandkids.
1968 Graduate of Schoolcraft College
with an Associates Degree in Architectural Technology. Worked for architectural firms (high acheivement-low pay-no
bennies) over the following 10 years.
Designed 3 commercial structures and 4
residential homes as independent designer (they're still standing!). After a long
talk with myself, I said, "Self, it's time to get a job with
guaranteed wages and benefits, no more begging for
raises". So eventually, after bouncing from job to job for 4
years I landed a 'union' job with the Township of Redford,
Michigan. I performed every task imaginable in the Department of Public Works. Became Secretary and Vice-President
of the local union. Participated in many contract negotiations.
Stayed with the township for 24 years, last 8 years spent in
maintenance of Parks & Recreation. Became certified playground safety inspector/designer. One of those "government
employees". Boy have things changed. Retired in 2006 (?).
Am now a"snowbird". After retirement I took online classes to
become a certified (there's that word again) HTML technician.
Picked up the guitar (joyful noise). Now playing lots of golf and
am in a rock and roll band with other old THS 66 grads. Burning The Edge be entertaining you at the reunion, that is, if our
joints don't ache too much. Can you say dance?
I recall my years at Lee M. Thurston High School with great
delight. Thanks to Mrs. Wicks and Judy Stewart for their personal involvement and actually teaching. No 'cliques' for me.
Tried to be friends to all. Plenty of partying and just enough
studying to get by. Back in 1956 Elvis Presley absolutely
changed my thought process about music. It was so 'new'
then. My apologies to Peggy Lee. Throughout my school and
working life music has been my companion (thanks to Rick
Hock for cluing me in to Bob Dylan). What a fruitful time for
music throughout HS and into the early 70's. I could feel the
music. FEEL IT. The blues, folk, rock and roll, motown funk,
big band, traditional jazz have all seeped into my soul. I can
also remember that radio was king (AM band). Geez, memories come flooding back like a hurricane hitting Manhattan.
Let me just say my memories of HS are all good and I wish
everyone well.
Life is a series of dreams and Seniors rock! (...citizens, that is).

fantastic people to work with. The owners and staff are

I am also a Planning Commissioner for Northfield Twp.
Northfield is half way between Ann Arbor and Brighton right

We are in the midst of revising our Master Plan for the township that will carry us far into the future. We most recently
developed a streamlined Site Approval Plan for developers as
well as a Medical Mairjuan Ordinance for Northfield.
I also serve as Chairperson for the Northfield Twp. Blue
Skies Advisory Commission. We act as advocates for resident's issues with the Board of Trustees, by developing
community surveys, and submitting articles to the Courant
about items that are important to them.

1965. He came to sell his books and I

been with Detroit Diesel, now MTU Detroit Diesel for 45 years as the Government Sales and Service Tech.
We have four children: Stacey, Dawn, Cortney and Justin,
all Thurston graduates as well. Stacey is the office manager
for Voight and Schwietzer a long time Redford Twp. business.
Dawn works for Rhonda Alliison a cosmetic company near
Dallas TX and is going after her CPA. Cortney and his beautiful wife MIchelle (Hughes. Also a Thurston graduate) work for
Virginia Tile and Justin has his own Heating and Cooling business in Farmington Hills.
We have 8 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to 20 years
old which includes a set of twin girls. All of them gorgeous
and smart and talented of course. We also have two dogs,
Libby a Kelpie, Layla a Golden Retriever and Starr a Himalayan cat. Also gorgeous, smart and talented if treateating, sleeping and frisbee-chasing count. That's the
animals not the kids.
My children and grandchildren are my heart and being with
them keeps my heart young. Can't say much for the rest
of me. My mind says I am still in my ....we'll say 30s ...
then I walk by a window and catch my reflection and
there's that 60 something lady looking back. I'm staying

•Married to Bill, a wonderful guy, for 40 years. We met at
WMU during my freshman year, dated and married after
we both graduated.
We have two great children and five (almost six) grandchildren. Craig finally graduated from EMU after 16 years with
a BA in Business and Finance and currently works for HP
in Pontiac. He was married in 2009 to Carly and they have
a family of his, hers and ours. Alexis and Abby are both 10
and Andrew is 2 1/2. Karen has a BA and a Masters in
Business and Marketing and currently teaches high school
in Milan, MI. She married her second husband, Lee, in
2010. Brendan is 9, Caitlyn is 7 and a baby girl is on the
way and due in October. Bill and I love spending time with
our kids and grandkids and we are very proud of them all.
I graduated from WMU in 1970 with a teaching degree, but
at that time there were too many of us looking for jobs, so
after substitute teaching for 2 1/2 years I decided to become a secretary. I recently retired from Thomson Reuters
(a healthcare information company) in Ann Arbor and am
loving every minute of retirement. I especially love not
driving to work in bad weather!
Bill retired from Detroit Diesel after 39 1/2 years and has finally also settled into retirement, although he ocassionally
consults for a company in Ann Arbor. HIs speciality is
emission testing on engines.
Bill and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary in May
by taking an Alaska cruise tour and absolutely loved the
entire trip. Definitely something you should put on your
bucket list. I also enjoy knitting, cross stitching, traveling
and hacking at golf! I'd like to learn to quilt, so am planning to take a class at our local quilt store.
I am having a blast reading about and catching up with my
fellow classmates. I remember my years at Thurston as
being some of the best times of my life. I was a band nerd
so was never in the popular crowd, but had many friends
that I lost touch with long ago and am looking forward to
connecting with them at the 2011 reunion.
Bill and I plan to travel and keep active as long as we are
both in good health and we hope to spend a long, happy
retirement together with our entire family!
SELLARDS, DAVE (DECEASED)
This brief tribute to Dave was submitted
by his friend, Jerry Hemphill.
• For those of you who remember Dave.
Dave and I met in drafting class at THS. After graduation
we both studied architecture at Schoolcraft. In 1967 I won
the lotto for the only time in my life, and entered military
service for the next four years, and lost contact with Dave.
I reconnected with him quite by accident in late 1979.
Dave continued his education at Lawrence Tech and had
fulfilled his dream of becoming an architect. He had
opened his firm on Old Woodward in downtown Birmingham. Over the next several years, Dave and I worked on a
number of projects together, and he designed a number of
award winning custom homes for me, including my first
Homarama home in Bloomfield.
Dave was well respected in the custom home market, and
was a great guy and fun to work with. I was very grateful to
have worked with a former friend and THS grad.
Dave lost his battle with cancer, and is truly missed by his
friends and family. The building industry of Southeast
Michigan lost a truly gifted and talented architect.

• I'm single. I was divorced after being married 15 years. Because my children were so
young when this happened, I really didn't
feel divorced until they moved on.
My biggest accomplishment is raising my 2
children, Lindsay and Brian (33 and 30).
Lindsay is an accomplished musician and
graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy. Currently, she's a PhD student after a year in
Nepal as a Fulbright Scholar. Brian completed his education
this Spring and is in the job market.
My roommates are a taupey striped Egyptian Mau cat and a
black, small, mixed breed pup by the name of Tootsie.
I graduated twice from the University of Michigan. The last was
in 1999 after completing a Masters of Science in Nursing with
a certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I then was licensed by the appropriate organizations, etc.
Additionally, I spent 30+ years in either public health or community health roles at Cranbrook Schools, Oakland Co. Health
Dept., self-employed, Detroit Health Dept (Cass Corridor!).
I enjoy staying in touch with family and friends and making
new ones after I retired in 2005. I enjoy discovering my

want to and it seems I want to. My latest project was
being cast as a little old lady in "The Producers" with the
Farmington Player's Guild. Is that type casting or what?
What a great time with great people. I'm hoping to always
keep that group of fun people in my life. Everyday I wake
up with a new brilliant idea to pursue and retirement gives
you the freedom to do just that. Who knows what new adventures and people I'll get to meet?

Engaged before his tour of duty in Nam and married 6
weeks after he was home safe and sound. We are lucky.
We have 2 daughters, April and Janine, and they are married with 2 boys each. So........when we watch the grandkids it’s 4 boys (2,5,7 and 9) which keeps us busy and
smiling!
Ken is retired from GM for 8 years now and I am retired from
Schoolcraft College since 2009. Sold the home in Livonia
and bought one here in Interlochen where we love it. Lots of
fishing, snowmobiling and casino-hopping when we get visitors. I caught my first over 20# King Salmon in Lake Michigan this year. We have a freezer full of salmon for the winter
months and for smoking. No luck last year with venison but
maybe Ken will see some good ones this year.
It has been fun to read about everyone from the Class of
66. I am not a big Facebook person but I can see that it
has been a great communication tool for everyone. Hope
everyone stays healthy and happy and is able to enjoy the
years ahead.

• I have been
married to James
Tait for 41 years
(since August 15,
1970)
Jim and I have
two children: Elizabeth (Beth) turning 33 in
September and George turning 28 in October this year.
Beth is married to Brad Battey and they have two girls: Bridgette 4 and Branwyn 2. Beth teaches music privately and
also at daycare centers in Ann Arbor. George is a magician
and has published 15 books on magic geared toward magicians. Writing under the name Patrick G. Redford, a few of
his books can still be found on Amazon. He does lecture
tours and was recently in Finland working as a collaborator
on a TV special.
We have one spoiled black cat named Gallagher who
thinks he's a people.
I spent the summer after we graduated from HS on a
music tour through South America. It was a choral exchange student program. The choir was called the Michigan Youth Chorale. We toured the countries of Chili,
Uruguay, and Brazil and lived as exchange students in
many different cities while we performed. The summer before, I had toured Ireland, England, Holland, and Germany
the same way. I am very happy to say I meet regularly with
several of those choir members still today. And I am still in
contact with my first exchange family in Ireland.
I graduated from University of Michigan School of Music
on August 9, 1970, signed my teaching contract on the
10th, and married Jim a week later on August 15. I began
my teaching career in the Taylor School District that September and taught elementary music until I went on maternity leave in September of 1978. Intending to be a
stay-at-home mom, about 18 months later I received a
phone call from the head of a private Montessori school.
She had literally gotten my name from a friend of a friend,
and after talking with her on the phone for an hour, she
suggested I come and work for her after Spring break, two
days a week, “to see how it would fit in to my life.” I guess
the school and I fit, because after 31 years there, I still
teach music at Dearborn Heights Montessori Center. My
students range in age from 18 months to 14 years. The
school grew over the years from just preschool, to adding
elementary and middle school. This past year we added
the toddler program.
As music director, I was given free rein to develop and
grow the music program to accommodate the growing
school. I can be found at school five days a week now.
My husband, Jim, and I lived in South Redford until 1997
when we purchased a home in Canton. Our daughter
graduated from THS, but our son graduated from PCEP.
My husband is and engraver, square dance caller, and balloon twister. And during the holiday season he dons the
red and white suit. Once in a while I play Mrs. to his
Santa. It has not been a dull life!
For almost 20 years I played hammered dulcimer and
Celtic harp with a trio called Felicity Strings. My husband
played string bass with the group. The group stopped performing together about 6 years ago, but I still play solo
doing weddings, parties, and festivals around the area.
Every summer I attend a dulcimer festival in Evart, Michigan where I am one of many workshop leaders. I began
giving workshops on hammered dulcimer, but for the last
10 years I have co-lead workshops on Celtic harp. I also
teach privately at home.
In my spare time, I like to quilt, do machine embroidery,
and play games on the computer. When we were first
married, my husband and I appeared in the musical
“You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” with the Taylor Community Theatre. He was Snoopy and I played Patty. Over
the years I have also taken on the adult singing role in several children’s operas by Sanford Jones: Harlequin, The
Little Mermaid, Persephone, and The Burning Rice Fields.
About 5 years ago, I played the part of Stella the Story
Teller in Noah the Musical with the Motor City Youth Theatre in Livonia directed by Nancy Florkowski. Over the
past years I have sung with the Schoolcraft Community
Chorus and also the Plymouth Community Chorus. Currently I sing with the Plymouth Oratorio Society.
Retirement doesn’t seem to be in my forecast. But I think
about it more and more lately. I am looking forward to our
45th reunion.

• Married to Jean with 41st anniversary
in December '11. Met Jean while attending Navy training at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Millington, TN. We
dated for about 6 weeks and and have
been together ever since. Jean is a native of Memphis.
I have one son, Matt who will be 28 in
September '11. Matt has an English degree from the University of Memphis.
Prior to being drafted into the military back in '69, I worked
for an architectural/design firm called Kovach-Singer along
with fellow THS grads Rob Szymanski and David Sellers.
We can thank Mr. Mathers for our architectural drafting
expertise (-:
After 5 years in the Navy, I went to work for Siemens Medical Systems, a global diagnostic imaging manufacturer
(CT, MRI, etc). After almost 20 years in capital equipment
sales with Siemens, I made a change in '95 to sell the
same stuff with Toshiba and did so for 8 years. I was recruited by GE in '03 (doing same thing), where I am still
employed and now focusing on Nuclear Medicine imaging
sales only.
I attended Schoolcraft Community College and that was
interrupted by the military draft and joining the navy in '69.
I chose the navy over being drafted into the army. That
was a great choice even though it was for a 4 year stint
over a 2 year army commitment. I received avionics training that gave me the background needed for Siemens to
hire me just out of the navy.
While working my way into sales at Siemens, I used my GI
benefits and received a BA degree in marketing from the
University of Memphis. Getting my degree was a longhaul, attending classes in the evening.
I spend most of my off time honing my golf game and
that's about it. However, I am still a huge Detroit sports fan
and try to watch Tigers and Wings games any way I can.
My family is still in in Redford and I visit at least once a
year (mostly once per year) and always hook-up with as
many THS classmates as possible while "home" for some
golf or a get together.
My only real THS accomplishment was being a member of
'66 varsity baseball team which was a super squad and
Emil's first team.

• My Husband Ernie passed away 5 years ago. we had
been married 33 wonderful years.
I feel very blessed that all of my children and grandchildren
live close to me. My oldest Deby and her husband Duane
have 2 kids, Kristy, who has one son Bradon, and Jake.
My second oldest Lyn has 4 kids, Nikki , who has 3 kids,
Danell, Blake, and Marcus, Shanna with 2 kids, Alleya and
Nate, Kat, and Brandon. My third, Heather and her husband Kris live with me and their 3 girls Cheyenne, Kyrsten
and Harmony. My fourth, Bobby and his wife Erin don't
have any kids yet. Erin is finishing her masters and she
works at the same library as I do. Let's see, that makes 4
kids, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandkids. They are a
big part of my life. Also 2 dogs, a cat, and fish.
I was a stay at home mom til my youngest was 2. Then I
went back to school to get my teaching degree. Two years
later we moved from Arkansas to Florida and I went back
to get my masters in library science. Believe me, it was
not a choice I wanted but it came with the job I chose.
Now I am glad I did because I have been working at the
same library for over 20 years and am head of the children's department. I have always loved working with kids,
especially the tweens and teens. Lock ins at the library are
great. It’s like having a party every month. I will retire in
about 3 more years. I love my job but I will really like not
having to get up in the morning if I don't feel like it. Besides it will give me more time with my family.
I married the year after I graduated but my husband of 3
years was a Vietnam casualty. Three years later I met
Ernie and a whole new chapter of my life began. We were
married 5 months after we met and my only regret is that
we couldn't have had a longer time together. We moved
from Redford to the U.P. to Arkansas and finally to Florida.
I have been here over 25 years now and love it. The three
grandkids that live with me all homeschool so I spend a lot
of time schooling. I work the most with Chey who is in 7th
grade and my daughter and her husband do most of the
work with the other two.
When I'm not at work or schooling, I am working with the
girls with their 4H club, making sure they get to dance,
choir, drama, and scouts. Field trips are great thing, we are
going on a field trip to Mich.Sept/Oct. From there we are
headed to North Carolina for a ballroom competition that
Cheyenne is in. At this point in my life my favorite hobby is
letterboxing. We started about 6 months ago and it works
out for our family because we like to get out to the parks
and go on short trips. We are already planning where our
stops will be to find some letterboxes on our trip. I also
love family get togethers. I don't think we have enough of
them. Camping is great but now that my husband is gone
we don't do that as often. Looking forward to seeing some
old classmates and having a great time. See you there.

We have been retired for a little over a year. We love it!
We have been traveling non-stop...between the kids and
family. Our daughter is in CO and our son in OH.
Brought a couple of the grandkids back for summer.
They loved going out on the paddle boat several times.
Our lake is a good fishing lake. Sarah (1 of 4 grand
daughters) caught 7 fish in just a short time she was so
excited. She was not a fan of taking them off the hook so
her younger sister Zoe did it for her. We threw them back
in, as they were too little. The big one will have to be
caught next summer! We also travel with our friends and
are working on a trip to Austrailia. It is so nice to do what
you want when you want.

hope they will live an exciting but peaceful life in this

of you would wish for as well. We've experienced as

Married (finally!) to Stephen Jenkins; currently retired
from Dow Corning; Chemical Engineer
Married 7 years this past June; "He's a keeper!"
Kids/Grandkids: Four beautiful, brilliant grandchildren:
Maggy 5, Eve 4, Christopher 3, & Hayden, 2
Steve has two sons: David (Caroline) lawyer; Andrew
(Tracy) IT manager
David lives in Atlanta, GA; Andy lives in Charlotte, NC
Annie has two unspoiled Siamese cats: Kato, who thinks
he's a dog and Koko who hides in the basement ceiling
when scared.
I earned my Masters at U of M and became a language
arts teacher in the Bay City schools. I retired after 30
years, but whoever stops working?! We bought a 1958
home in a picturesque setting on a river, and have been
remodeling, landscaping, and throwing money at it, inside
and out, ever since. When I was young, I had a "twenty
year" plan so as to afford what I wanted. Today, we have
a "do it as fast as we can" plan because we're not getting
any younger! If we ever get the house together, I want to
go back to tutoring because I love working with kids.
I live with an angel. I tell him to remember to fold his
wings when he walks through doorways. I plan to continue to learn as much as I can about everything. We love
travel, especially Europe and China; I can't keep plants
from growing (we're inundated!), but now the focus is
roses; I'm pursuing interior design...; then there's the honorary teacher's group each month; but the best book I
found is called THE POWER OF LESS! I've read it twice,
made notes, and as soon as I find time to apply it, I know
it will change my life! I dream of writing a book distinguished by its profound insight and exquisite text, but so
far I can't find the right words.

• I’ve been married to Greg for 40 years.
We have three furry kids: Brandi our
golden retriever who is 8+, Sopha our 4
yr old Harlequin tabby who thinks she is
a princess, and Tucker our 8-9 yr old
classic orange tabby who adopted us a
year ago this September.
Greg and I started off as teachers, he in
math and I in English. We met in the student teaching seminar at U-Michigan. He lost the 'lottery',
so enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed in Oklahoma City after a year. We married in 71 and I joined him
out there. He was relocated to Texas. Not much better!
haha We moved back to Mich after he was done, as he
had a teaching job to come back to. There were no Eng-
lish jobs for me. So I went into business/office work.
Teaching middle school was not the same as teaching
adults as he had in the AF, so he quit the position and
found a great job in non-profit up in Pontiac-Waterford. We
wanted to stay in Michigan as our families were here.
We bought a cute 2-story house in Waterford and lived
there almost 8 years. No kids, only dogs. =] We moved
across the street into another subdivision, where we are
today, almost 30 years ago. Check out my profile and see
the very cool addition we are putting on our 1927 house.
We love singing, so are active in church choir and outside
groups. Greg sings barbershop and I sing with The Jackson Chorale who rehearses in Rochester. We have travelled a great deal, across the country, in the Caribbean,
and over in Europe and the UK. When you see so many
different living conditions, you realize how small the world
really is. Greg currently works for Denso International in
Human Resource Development, his lifelong career, and I
started my own company 12 years ago in residential landscape and garden redesign. When I went into office work,
I spent 25 years as a general accountant, with an associate degree from OU. Got tired of being indoors! Not bad
for someone 63 yrs old.
Greg and I enjoy working and both of us have careers that
we can gradually retire from, and just do part time consulting in our fields. I'm a teaching gardener, so I coach my
crew as well as my clients. We seem to always be life
coaches to young people in our lives. So all that UM education never really went to waste. It just went outside a traditional classroom. Greg has almost 40 years of
experience in every aspect of corporate and non-profit
teaching and HRD. So we are playing the when shall we
retire game, and start the part time bit. Greg collects antique weighing scales and I look for unusual antique
teapots and garden implements. Plus I do several
needlearts and scrapbook.
We have lived a pretty blessed life. Our parents are passed
now. My dad, the last of the foursome, died this March.
Now there's just my brother and I. We enjoy Greg's sister's
kids, their spouses and now great nieces, so far!
My THS years were second only in stress to college. The
restraints, expectations, and pressures from my parents let
me be only a shadow persona of who I really was. It wasn't
until I went away to UM that I realized the rest of the world
did NOT live like me. And once you make that discovery,
there is no turning back, no matter who you anger or who
disapproves.
I can see from all the FB activity that a lot of the women had
similar issues at home. We, the Class of 66, lived during a
very volatile social unpheaval. Mores and attitudes were
changing daily. Technology was reinventing itself weekly. The
World was available to us to facilitate those changes. We
may be nicknamed Baby Boomers, but we've had more impact on the economy, politics, social evolution than I think
any 'group' of people. I don't think I want to live through it
again -lol- but I am glad in retrospect, that I have lived during
this time. It hasn't been easy. Lots of dips and turns. But
WOW, has it been stimulating and inspiring!

• Been married, 38 years, to Dave.
My husband and I have one son, David, and daughter-inlaw, Misti. Also, a dog, Greta.
Four years ago I retired from teaching middle school English for Jackson Public Schools. I enjoyed teaching, but
love retirement more!
I spend most of my summer at our home on Lime Lake in
Leelanau County, my favorite place to be. There we enjoy
boating, entertaining friends and family, golfing, hiking, and
watching Lake Michigan sunsets. I also dabble in art,
mostly sketching and pastels and enjoy taking art classes
from time to time. Although we haven't traveled much
lately (something else I love to do), we are currently planning a September trip to Ireland with friends.
I am so looking forward to the reunion, despite the fact that I've
failed to lose the 10 or so lbs. I had promised myself to do--I
guess I still have time, though. I'm especially anxious to see
those friends that go back to elementary school years.

• It was February of 1965 during that horrific snowstorm that I met Gary. He was a
senior at Cody and I was a junior at THS.
January of 2012 we will married 44 years.
I was a mere 16 years old and he was
17...yet I knew right then and there he was
THE ONE.
Gary and I have two children. The eldest
is David. He is an electrician employed
by GE. He recently bought a log home here in Canadian
Lakes. With the type of job he has he is able to pretty
much live anywhere and commute to his job. He left
Northville earlier this year and bought closer to us. He's a
whole mile away.
Our daughter Cheryl holds a masters degree in Mechanical
Engineering. She is employed by Chrysler as a manager.
She and Mike (her husband) bought a home here also in
Canadian Lakes and are up here almost every weekend.
She's about a mile and half from us.
It so great to have the kids near us again and we spend a lot
of time together. Gary and David go hunting on our 40
acres and are best friends. I get to play a lot of golf with my
wonderful son-in-law while Cheryl likes to "float" in the lake.
We lost our beautiful Shih Tzu (Suzy-Q) two years ago and I
haven't had the heart to get another. Still, the house is fairly
full with four felines. All are males...the Himalyans are Sir
Alex of Blanchard and Kodiak the Bear Cat...known as Alex
and Cody. The two we took in are domestic shorthairs tiger stripped. Tiger Pines (he adopted me on the Pines
Golf Couse) and Jackson --- he wandered up on our deck
last winter and has been here ever since.
The only things I find missing from my life are grandkids
and a horse. (Not necessarily in that order.) I think I have
a much better chance at owning a horse than being a
grandmother.
Gary and I retired from Ford Motor Company effective Jan.
1999. Never thought I would be retired that young...I wanted
to work until age 55 at least. But the offer I was made was too
good to pass up and I never looked back. Gary was an accountant and I was in Calibration Engineering. The test trips
were fun to begin with but soon became a drag. I miss most
of the people I worked with but keep in touch with a few.
It's been so much fun on Facebook hearing from former
classmates and what they've been involved with in their
lives. I think we are a great bunch of people!!
Since retirement I have the time to do the things I really
enjoy....reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, golfing, bowling,
etc. etc.
Gary and I have traveled quite a bit...the most recent trip
was to Australia and New Zealand. We both want to stay
closer to home and just enjoy the good old USA. So
many beautiful things right here in our own country to see.

• I’m single and have a smart, confident,
good looking and well educated 28 year old
son, Jeffery Stefan. He's a Trauma ICU
RN at Memorial Regional Medical Center,
here in Hollywood, FL. Jeff's a character
--- all of his elderly female patients want
to hire him for "private duty" as their "cabana boy!!!." He just went gallivanting
across Spain by himself for 2 weeks this
summer, and I'm enjoying his stories and
the 500+ photos that he shot of everything from grand
cathedrals to vintage Plazas, to the plates of fresh seafood
that he devoured.
I raised cockatiels as a hobby for almost 20 years, and still
have 6 of them living at home with me. I have my whole indoor family room screened in as an aviary for them. They're
sweet, companionable little birds, each with their own personality ..... they seem to have acknowledged that since I've
turned 60, that it's kind to refrain from chirping and flapping
up a storm too early on Sunday mornings; they will actually let
me sleep in ...... now, if I could only train them to whip up a
spinach and mushroom and gruyere omelet for their "surrogate Mom!!"
ZERHAN, JOHN (DECEASED)
I've been privileged to serve the Detroit and Fort
Lauderdale/Hollywood legal communities for 33 years as a
personal injury paralegal. Being integrally involved in my
client's lives and being an advocate for their medical and financial outcomes after they have suffered injuries has been
very personally rewarding. I will probably seek to stay working
at least a couple of days a week after I become eligible for retirement. I have a whole compendium of colorful career stories to tell ----- just ask me at the Reunion!!!
ZERILLI, JAMES
313-272-5308
Sometimes, I'm a bit envious of those of you who are retired
..... it would be good to have a little less stress, a few less
project deadlines, etc. But, I would miss the "thrill of the

chase" in helping to restore some quality of life for my personal injury clients. I'd like to acknowledge learning tenacity
and preparedness from attorneys Larry Charfoos in Detroit,
and Philip Freidin of Miami. And, big Thanks to my one-of-akind current employer, attorney Terry M. Rosenblum for all of
the latitude of workday scheduling and leeway in the manner
in which I work my cases.
Most of all, I'm grateful for the love and support and camaraderie of four bright and talented sisters .... Leslie, Maggie,
Susan and Michelle ..... there's not one of us who exactly
mirrors each other's philosophy of life or career goals, but we
have been blessed with mutual respect for one another and
encourage each other's goals. Even when we "dish" about
one another to each other, it's usually with more amusement
than mud-slinging. And, my Mom, Helen, is a local treasure
..... one of the all-time volunteers of St. Robert Bellarmine
Church (and, former school), and a constant participant in the
activities of the Redford Senior Citizens Center ..... I'm forever
humbled by her energy and accomplishments.
And, I have warm memories of friends and classmates and
teachers in our THS Class of '66. Working on the Eagle Outlook with Jan Cunningham, Lou Fiorentino, the Glowacki
twins, Jim Donohue and Rick Walker was an especially standout learning experience and exercise in teamwork.
