Scarecrow Competition
Judge: To be announced.
Steward: Mrs Phil May (tel. 741123).
Welcome to the fifth Cilcain Scarecrow Competition. We'd like
to involve as many households as possible, so get the whole
family thinking of their original ideas now! Please display your
scarecrow on your property where it can be seen from the road
during the week before the show, but bring it to the church yard
before 10am on show day for judging. (Scarecrows left at owners
risk).
The competition is open to everyone.
This year the competition theme is open.
Your scarecrow should be given a title and this title will be taken
into consideration when the scarecrow is judged.
Minimum size 24” (60cm). Please bring it to the church yard before 10am on show day
for judging. Prizes will be awarded. Don't forget to hand in your entry form if you want a
chance to win the prize! No entry form, no prize. If you prefer, you can just put up your
scarecrow for fun. Consideration will be given to input from children.
Further information and entry forms from:
Steward: Mrs Phil May (tel. 741123) or from the Show web site www.cilcainshow.org.uk

Sioe Cilcain
Cilcain Show
Er bod Sioe Cilcain wedi newid a datblygu dros y blynyddoedd, mae synnwyr cryf o gymuned yn bodoli o hyd.
Ar y maes mae ’na gystadlaethau sy’n
dod â’r gymuned at ei gilydd, gyda
phobl yn cydweithio i roi mwynhad i rai
sydd â diddordebau gwahanol.
Although Cilcain Show has gradually changed and grown down the
years, the spirit of the old Society
remains. Traditional competitions
bring together the community in
joint endeavour for enjoyment and
interest, while new ideas for entertainment are regularly introduced to
keep the show fresh.
Hefyd, mae syniadau newydd yn cael
eu cyflwyno yn gyson o ran cynnal apêl
y sioe. Bob blwyddyn, bydd y pwyllgor
a phobl y pentref yn gweithio’n galed
iawn er mwyn sicrhau bod y sioe yn
llwyddiannus. Rydym yn croesawu
gwirfoddolwyr newydd sydd â syniadau
newydd.
Each year a committee of village
folk supported by local residents
work hard to make the show a success and always welcome additional volunteers with new ideas.
Bob blwyddyn, mae tua phedair mil o
bobl yn ymweld â’r sioe, ac yn codi
arian at gronfeydd yr eglwys a’r gymuned.
The show attracts about 4,000 visitors and raises funds for the church
and local community.
The Committee thanks Flintshire County Council for their grant support in 2014

Gentleman’s Baking Competition
Class 18 Gentlemen’s Baking Competition : Mary Berry Apple cake
Prize bottle of whiskey
Ingredients: 225 g self-raising flour; 1 level tsp baking powder; 225 g caster sugar; 2 large eggs; 1/2 tsp almond extract; 150 g butter, melted; 250 g cooking apples, peeled and cored; 25 g flaked almonds.
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 160C/fan, 140/gas. Lightly grease a deep 20 cm loose
bottomed cake tin. Measure the flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs, almond extract
and melted butter into a bowl. Mix well until blended, then beat for a minute.
Spread half of this mixture in the prepared tin. Thickly slice the apples and lay on
top of the mixture in the tin, piling mostly towards the centre. Using a desert spoon,
roughly spoon the remaining mixture over the apples. Make sure that the mixture
covers the centre well, as it will spread out in the oven. Sprinkle with flaked
almonds. Bake in the pre-heated oven for 1 ¼ - 1 ½ hours until golden and coming
away from the sides of the tin.

We are grateful to the Community Council for allowing the Dog Show to be held on the Waen,
where dogs are normally prohibited. Please help us to keep this Dog Show as an annual event
by not allowing your dog to foul the field and surrounding areas. We realise that "accidents"
happen, but would request that you clean up any mess your dog makes. Let us show everybody
what responsible dog ownership means! An exercise area will be roped off. A supply of plastic
bags and tissues will be available from the Stewards.
