Student profiles
Holly Pound
Exchange from the University of Exeter
Exeter, United Kingdom.
History and Politics
Holly knew that she always wanted to come to Australia
and it was ANU’s reputation that convinced her to apply.
‘I looked at the University guides and saw that my
subject, History, was ranked number 10 in the world
rankings, which I thought was impressive’, she said.
‘I wanted to use my year abroad not only to study at
a different institution but additionally to use it as an
opportunity to gain some work experience and travel’.
‘I would strongly recommend this experience to other
students. It has been amazing studying at ANU.
Having the opportunity to shadow a Senator and to
gain course credit was fantastic’.

Matheus Vieira Portela

Matheus believes his experience at ANU was life
changing. ‘The time I spent at ANU was fantastic.
I had opportunities that I never thought I would
have’, he said.
‘During my study abroad program, I lived with
Australians and international students and got
to know people with different backgrounds and
opinions. I also had the opportunity to intern
at The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial
Research Organization (CSIRO). A unique
opportunity that was only possible because
of my course selection at ANU.
‘As I say to everyone who is planning an exchange
to Australia, ANU is an option that merges
academic excellence with the best university life
available. Choosing it for my studies was one
of the best decisions I have ever made in my life’.
