WORLDRECORDS BACKSTAGE
The great albums in music history highlighted: on record players
that partly became legendary too.
worldrecords is meant to be a tribute to analog acoustic art, a
homage to the warmest, perhaps most sensitive type of sound
carrier. In a way – and that makes the photo series so special – it
is also a private time machine to the spectator: music as an impulse
to remember bits and pieces of one's personal history, a release
of former thoughts and feelings. The soundtrack of your life.
From a formal point of view, the precise approach down to the
last detail finds its ideal expression in large format. Each groove,
each label notice, each tone arm component is oversized and
thus nearly tangible. The special light KAI has developed for worldrecords contributes a great deal to make these effects real.
The photo series the artist started with early in 2010 today
includes around 100 pictures. The list "The 500 Greatest Albums
of All Time" in the "Rolling Stone Magazine" helped choosing the
most adequate titles.

KAI SCHÄFER
Kai Schäfer lives and works in Dusseldorf
(Germany). At the age of 15, he bought his
first camera: the beginning of a great
passion.
Kai Schafer has been concentrating on his
first big photo-art-project “worldrecords”
since 2011. For this photo series, including
about 70 pictures up to now, he takes
pictures of the great albums of music
history, as for example The Clash, Pink
Floyd and Kraftwerk, in an oversized format
on record players that have become
legendary too. The result is a tribute to
unforgettable analogues worlds of sound.

Kai Schäfer developed and patented his
own special light for his photographs. This
light blurs the borders between
photography and painting, thus creating a
very unique effect…
Each groove, label notice or tone arm
component is hyper-accurate, tangible
and subtly audible.

In December 2011, one of his pictures has
been sold at high prize at Christies
Germany ....a first great success on the art
market…
In 2013 “worldrecords” was already part
of an solo exhibition in Los Angeles, the
AIPAD artfair in New York, the “Berliner
Liste” in Berlin and the “artshow” in
Düsseldorf, with a huge success!
The next stops are London, Houston and
Miami!
