Oshawa Kicks Inferno U14 Girls win Brossard U15 AAA Division
August 2012 - Oshawa Kicks Inferno 1998 Girls Win U15 AAA division
of Brossard Challenge Tournament
Oshawa Kicks Inferno dominate in the U15 AAA division of the
Challenge Brossard
The Inferno took their show on the road and set their sights on claiming the
top spot at the challenge Brossard in Montreal Quebec.
The historic tournament was celebrating its 27th anniversary.
The Inferno were drawn into group B of the U15 field and the task looked
daunting for the underage group. First up were the Griffons of Mount-Royal.
Although on paper it appeared that the Inferno would be over matched it
seems nobody told them that fact. They came out and showed from the
opening kick that this was there game to be won. The team put on a clinic of
passing, ball control, and team play at both ends of the field. The game
ended in a lob sided 5-0 win for the Inferno.
Next in line was Terrebonne SC. The Inferno quickly showed them that the
40 degree weather wouldn’t be a factor as they bulged the back of the net in
a record 20 seconds from the opening kick-off. The rest of the match was
quite one sided ending in a 4-0 win. The parents, players, and coaches
were all happy to see the end of this match as the heat took a toll on all of
them.
Woodbridge was the last remaining opponent in the group stages. The two
wins on Saturday had already clinched the Inferno a spot in the semis so
this game had a much different feel to it. We saw a midfielder and a
defender playing goalie and watched a goalie make a 50 yard run. The fun
filled game ended with another win and ran their totals to 12 goals scored
and 0 conceded during the group games.
Waiting for them in the semi-final game were the North London Galaxy.
Although they were also a U14 squad they were definitely going to be the
stiffest test as they are a highly ranked OYSL team. The game was a very
tense affair with both squads leaving everything they had on the field. The
Inferno began the second half down by a goal but you could see that they
weren’t going to give up without a fight. They managed to fend off North
London’s fierce pressure as they attempted to put the Inferno down by two.
The Inferno took advantage of a defensive miscue and tied the game with
roughly 15 minutes remaining. As the clock continued to tick down you
could see the Inferno growing in confidence and taking the play to North
London. The ball ended up on the foot of the outside midfielder and she
struck a sweet right foot into the top of the net giving them a 2-1 lead and all
they would need to advance to the finals.
The U15 Cataraqui Clippers would be the last team standing in the way of
the championship. They had also won all of their games in dominating
fashion so this was shaping up to be a tight final. The Inferno looked more
like a team in this match than any other this season. The communication,
passing, finishing, tackling and team spirit were all top notch. A scramble in
front of the net led to the Inferno’s first goal and it just seemed to lift the girls
up to another level. The game was a one sided affair and ended in a
convincing 4-0 win.
Congratulations go out to each member of the team for giving everything
they had this past weekend and putting the needs of the team first. You can
now say for the rest of your lives that you were the 2012 Challenge
Brossard Champions!
