Viper Cruiser Plans / Kit Hovercraft
Introduction
Viper Cruiser Features
Viper Cruiser is designed for the "do-it-yourselfer". It is a high
performance design, yet is simple and inexpensive to build.



Capacity to seat four adults in comfort






Significant positive buoyancy
The Viper Cruiser is a Plans/Kit Hovercraft. It is supplied as
Plans and Kit components.
The Viper Cruiser hull is a plywood version of our popular Viper
4, using all the same components and power module.
By following the Viper Cruiser plan assembly manual, the Viper
Cruiser builder makes the hull from marine plywood, using a
traditional "stitch and glue" method. This light weight design,
gets its strength by using a foam sandwich technique. In this
case, there are no stringers or dead weight.
To meet the builders personal needs, the Viper Cruiser can be
extended to cater for additional payload. The design can also
be adapted to incorporate separate lift by using our optional
lift and thrust duct kits.
Engine choices
The standard Kit engines are either a 64hp water cooled Rotax
or a 65hp, air cooled Hirth, You can alternatively use a variety
of new or used engines ranging from 35hp to 100hp. These
include:






Simple to build
Strong, lightweight, Epoxy/Plywood/Foam sandwich
construction
Enclosed electrical system
Enclosed and vented fuel system
Individually pressurized extended segment, skirting
In-line seating with simple handle bar controls
Excellent driving position with easy control of pitch and
roll by weight shift


Single engine and fan, providing integrated lift and thrust

Sealed engine air-intake filtration system
Simple power module containing the engine, transmission, fan, duct and rudders as a single unit
Below is an example of the assembly section of the Viper Cruiser Plan
Assembly Manual
All Hirth 2, 3 or 4 cylinder engines from 40 - 100hp
Rotax 447 to 583 two cylinder engines
Most Yamaha, Rotax and polaris snow mobile engines
Subaru 1600cc to 2200cc (decreased payload capacity)
VW (early) 1600cc to 2000cc (decreased payload capacity)
Vanguard or Briggs and Stratton 35hp (decreased payload
capacity)

WHY PLYWOOD
The Viper Cruiser plan/assembly manual explains in a step by step process how to cut
out, assemble and fit out the hull. The manual is written in layman's terms and includes
many drawings to assist each stage.
For amateur home hovercraft builders, plywood is the material of choice.
Plywood is affordable and easy to
use. Plywood has a better "strength to
weight" than steel and is much lighter
than most fibreglass hovercraft. When
encapsulated with epoxy resin, plywood is as durable and as low in
maintenance as any other material.
Plywood hovercraft can be built with
basic hand and wood working tools.
The plan / assembly manual is supplied in a protective binder, with each page contained
in a removable, clear plastic insert.
The joining of the plywood is a "stitch
and glue" method. Panels are cut to
shape from plans and joined together
at the seams. A hovercraft can be
assembled quickly after all the panels
are cut out.
The 90+ page manual contains the following:








List of kit contents and materials
Technical information on bonding, fibre glassing and sealing plywood.
Detailed plans of the hull.
Hull & fit out assembly instructions.
Cross-section drawings.
Skirt templates.
Wiring diagrams.
Operating and maintenance instructions.
Once the panels are stitched together
with lengths of copper wire, an epoxy
paste to used to create a fillet along
each side of the join. The join is then
covered with a layer of resin-coated
fibreglass tape.
An important feature of the Viper
Cruiser is the addition of "foam sandwich" panelling. This significantly increases the hull strength, eliminating
the need for complex frames and
structures. Hull strength and durability
is further increased with additional
layers of Kevlar cloth on all running
surfaces.
Almost anyone can build a Viper
Cruiser hovercraft hull using this
method of construction. The end result
is a light weight, strong and durable

Viper Cruiser Kits
If you are tight on budget and good with your hands, the
Viper Cruiser kit is designed for you.
Our Viper Cruiser Kit contains everything you need to build a
plywood hull version of our Viper 4, except for the timber,
fibreglass and paint. These items are better purchased in your
local region. However, If requested, we can supply this portion
in the Sydney metro and surrounding districts. A complete and
detailed list of the fibreglass and timber items is included in
the Viper Cruiser Plan/Assembly manual
The format of this kit is as such: The kit is divided into "pack"
form (available separately). You are not committed to buy the
whole kit. You can just buy as you go, or just buy the parts
you need. You can simply buy the Viper Cruiser Plan/assembly
manual and use your own parts or ideas.
In pack form, you can buy specific item packs to suit your
build, or budget your way through the build. Depending on
your ability, or end design, you may only need certain packs,
or in some cases no packs at all. You may already have your
own engine, or the ability to fabricate your own components.
In essence, at least you have a working hull.
Pack items group are as such as:

Availability and payment details:
Like our production hovercraft, these kits are fabricated to
order. The kit is usually ready for dispatch 3 - 5 weeks upon
order (Depending on modules ordered, and existing order
commitments). A 50% deposit is required for all kits. Final
payment is required prior the pick up or shipment.
