welcome
to this afternoon’s very special reading of
Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang!
Mordecai Richler has been captivating young
people of all ages with Jacob Two-Two (the
youngest child of five, who says everything twice because no one hears him the first
time) since 1975. I think everyone can relate to the feeling of not being heard - and
coming from a large family myself, with lots of brothers, I remember more than once my
mother saying, “Yes, Peter - we heard you the first time.” But this story reminds us that
simply receiving the words people say isn’t the same thing as them truly being heard,
and more importantly being understood. Sharing our stories and experiences is central
to Jacob Two-Two and ultimately what live theatre is all about. Mordecai Richler wrote
countless stories and books, leading him to be acknowledged as one of Canada’s best
