Elly, who hasl>een selling MusIim clothes in a shop on Jl. Jati Baru
Raya for the past three years, said
she would prefer to walk further to
catch a public minivan on a quieter
street rather than getting stuck in
the busy main road in front of Blok

Accordillg to her, using the sidewalks was more comfortable and
safer as they were relatively clear of
street vendors.
"It takes around 30 minutes to
get through the traffic in front of
Blok G. These days the traffic is
getting worse. I think more people
are corning here to buy stuff to sell

during Ramadhan," she told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
Increased activity could also be
seen by logistics companies that
dot JI. Jati Baru' Raya late in the
aftemoon. Workers loaded and
unloaded
packages
from
big
trucks that took up a lane of the
narraw street, forcing same pedestrians to walk in the middle of
the road and road users to slow dmVTI.

Central Jakarta Mayor Saefullah

Tasik traders," he said, referring to
garment traders from Tasikmalaya
in West Java.
He said at the same time, Public
Order Agency (Satpol PP) officials
were deployed regularly to raid
street vendors who occupied roads
