first-generation college students and running
workshops at tribal schools in Idaho and Washington.
Over the years, Fritz has been a freelance inventor
working with several different organizations, and
earning a number of patents. Jeanne took the academic
route to pursue her love of science and teaching. She
is a Fellow in the American Association for the
Advancement of Science and the author of a well-read
textbook Molecular Spectroscopy.
Fritz and Jeanne have enjoyed every single Moscow
Renaissance Fair, rain, snow or shine. They have
played music, led the parade, danced to exhaustion,
picked up garbage and worked at food booths. They
are thrilled and honored to be selected as King and
Queen, and promise a benevolent reign and good
weather.
connections. One of her greatest joys is playing with
the Snake River Six, the oldest jazz band west of the
Mississippi, for the past 16 years. She also sings and
plays piano with Henry C and the Willards, who
have just produced their first CD “Waiting in Couer
d’Alene.” Once a year in June, Jeanne has the great
honor of joining Roy Zimmerman, and her dear friends
the Threat Level Purple singers, in performing at the
annual Intolerista Wingding, a raucous musical and
comedic celebration of progressive values.
In the past several years, Fritz and Jeanne have
joined their forces scientifically in a research program
aimed at developing solar photoconversion that uses
earth-abundant and environmentally friendly
materials. They have organized and participated in
international conferences seeking collaborative
scientific efforts to improve the efficiency of solar
energy conversion. The McHale lab at WSU has also
participated in numerous outreach events to engage

Congratulations to Molly Klingler and Jonathan Gradin, the winners of the 43rd annual Moscow Renaissance Fair
poster contest. Two dozen entries were considered by more than 200 voters at BookPeople of Moscow on March 5th
and 11 year old Molly’s lovely image of spring together with Jonathan’s graphic design prevailed. The poster is the
main advertisement for the fair and the image graces the cover of this program. Molly and Jonathan also shared a $200
prize. An exhibit of past posters is on display at the Moscow Food Co-op until May 11
