How was your year as DMC reigning Champion ?
It was incredible, I travelled worldwide non-stop, I met so many
people it was a lot of fun, but a lot of work too. I had to adapt
to this new rhythm and that left me less time for training and
production. Before I played three times a month, now it s
more like 6 to10 gigs a month. I can say that I got what I
wanted, to live of my deejaying. I also started my label called
STEP ONE with my brother and my manager. Definitely, it was
a really positive year!
Did you enjoy touring so much? Did you learn anything
from it? Did you see any potential future DMC Champions ?
Yes I liked it very much because I love to show my stuff to
people and make them dance, play live is so much fun! It also
made me progress. Crowds are different depending on which
country you are and also according to the type of places you
play (club, festival, concert hall).
I saw a lot of good DJs and I remain curious to see what is
going to take place this year, specially coming from France
Germany and Japan. I hope that we are going to have pleasant
surprises and fresh ideas, I really would love that a girl to win
Dmc one day.
During the Tour you seem to now alternate Club Set
and Turntablism. Is that your new direction ?
I see my role as a Dj to take people where I want, but sometimes it’s needed to go where they want first. So my sets are
more dance floor orientated. Sometimes I give much more
space for the improvisation in the mix, so I have a better ability to follow the crowd if needed and of course I try to make
good technical parts at the right time. I keep my style, I navigate through different styles of music, besides hip hop I inject
some electro, rock and drum n bass. Well, I’ m still learning
every time and I like that.
Tell us about all these new products you 've got out :
ORTOFON DVD:
We made this project with
my friends of RAYTEAM
(Thanks to them) .Our
purpose was to make a
DVD nice and interesting
to watch , not so much
a promotional tool or a
heavy DVD full of explanations. I wanted my DVd to
be of interest not only for
the DJs and Turntablists
, but also to the general
public. There is a lot of live
and studio stuff interrupted by interviews. You can
find explanations of the
construction of my 2006
Dmc routine with Le Jad .
The editing is effective and
dynamic. There is also my
6 minutes routine filmed on multicameras plus some other bonus stuff. I am rather satisfied with the final result and I’m sure
you’ll enjoy watching it .
DMC CHAMPION SOUND CD:
Dmc asked me to mix the new Cd of their Champion Sound
series, I did accept when I knew that I could choose all the
tracklisting. We had some refusals but we finally came up
with a track list which was acceptable to me. This is a mix of
electro-hip hop tracks with pure electro at the end. What I’ve
put in the mix is really the kind of sound I like at the moment
and this Cd was the opportunity to make people discover it in
a fresh mix . I also took advantage of it to put some of my productions, there is a track from Ambitieux which is the group
from my home town for who I produce and I also used beats
and sounds of my battle break PAY DAY for the intro. The mix
contains powerful tracks from artists like: Paraone, Missil,
Jamalski, Grems, Youthman, also a scratch session with DjTroubl' and much more.
I worked a few days only on the intro and then it took me
around ten days in all to do the all mix with the scratches sessions and stuff. My 2006 routine is included at the end.
Break beat: PAY DAY
This is my first battle
break ,I produced it and
mixed it entirely. There
are 4 beats, 5 sounds
banks and 5 skip proof.
I did my best to have
something personal and
original. It was a hard
challenge, As new ideas
there are some little
breaks inside the beats,
specially made for the
juggling part, in a battle
way of use, this kind of
stuff had never be done before so I wanted to test it. I also tried
to put some different placement in the sounds bank...
I am eager to see how DJs will use it as it is not just a personal
production but a tool for the others.
I hope they’ll ‘destroy’ it
What have you got planned for 2008 ?
A lot of things! I will release a mix tape, a second battle break
and surely my first 12inch. I also want to prepare some new
stuff to include in my live performances. Stay tuned!
Thanks to our own Russell Brown, Ortofon is honored to bring on board the Vinyl Preservation Academy the

Johnny “Juice” Rosado
Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx, Johnny “Juice” Rosado was reared by Hip-Hop as it made
its debut and continued its evolution into what it is
today. At an early age he learned to play the bongos
and congas, a reflection of his Puerto Rican musical
culture. It was then that he realized that music would
be his calling.
In the early 80’s, his passion for music led him to the
dance floor as a “B-Boy” or Break Dancer. It was as
a “B-Boy” that Juice met two other “B-Boys” : Busta
Rhymes and Charlie Brown, two future members of the
Leaders of the New School. At this time, influenced by
Charlie Brown’s brother, DJ Higg and local scratch DJ,
DJ Will, he embarked on a DJ career.
In 1986, a group named Spectrum City was holding
tryouts for a “Super Group” to be formed and Juice
was only too willing to participate. As it turned out,
he won the DJ tryouts and was named the DJ for a
group named the Kings of Pressure. They were signed
to Next Plateau Records and released a single “You
Know How to Reach Us.” During this time, Spectrum
City was in the middle of recording their album for Def
Jam under the name of Public Enemy. One day Chuck
D and Hank Shocklee asked Juice to come to the studio with them and bring some records. This turned
out to be a turning point in the very early development
of turntablism.
Juice was tasked with scratching on the very first Public Enemy album “Yo, Bumrush the Show!” His credits included “Right Starter “(Riot Starter), “Raise the
Roof”, and of course “You’re Gonna Get Yours.”
After the sessions for the P.E. album Hank and Chuck,
along with Keith Shocklee and Eric Sadler formed a
production team that would later be referred to as
the Bomb Squad. Juice was asked to be a part of that
team. As a member of this team, Juice would go on to
work with some of Hip-Hops greatest artist - many of
them going gold and platinum. His accomplishments
include production work and scratching for True Mathematics, Kings of Pressure, Slick Rick, Public Enemy’s
groundbreaking “It Takes a Nation of Millions…” album, the Beastie Boys, Leaders of the New School and
Oran “Juice” Jones.
One of the many unfortunate facts of the business
was that Juice did not always receive credit for all
the projects that he worked on. Such was the case on
the infamous “You Gonna Get Yours: Terminator X Getaway Version” single. It was here that Juice showed
his ability as a producer and turntablist and clearly set
the pace for all DJ’s to follow as did his predecessor
and idol, Grandmixer DSt (who’s groundbreaking work
on Herbie Hancocks “Rockit” remains classic to this
day).
Juice has continued to work on projects that are as
diverse as his musical tastes. He has worked on albums for various artists producing the single “Give
the Peeps What they Need” for Public Enemy’s groundbreaking album Revolverlution, R&B production for
Soul powerhouse Kyle Jason, and dance/house music
with the legendary producer Robert Cliveles of C & C
Music Factory. He has worked on movie soundtracks
including the “He’s Got Game” soundtrack and earned
an Emmy Nomination for his scoring work and theme
song composition on the ESPN TV special “Ali Rap.”
Juice has been an active percussionist/turntablist
in the live acid jazz, funk, R&B, and drum and bass
circuit in Manhattan as well. He performs with live
bands and was featured in the documentary “Godfathers and Sons” directed by Emmy Award Winner Mark
Levin. He has performed with many acclaimed musicians including Pete Cosey (Miles Davis), Louis Satterfield (Earth, Wind, and Fire), Morris Jennings (Ramsey
Lewis), Phil Upchurch (George Benson, Michael Jackson) and Stanley Banks (George Benson).
The future looks bright for Johnny “Juice” Rosado.
With his past success and legendary status among
the turntablist sect, he should continue his trend of
exemplary work and successful endeavours.
INTERVIEW
Twenty years later, who is the Public Enemy “number
one” ?
DJ Lord : Lol...We have been and forever will be Public Enemy #1
Johnny Juice : Initially it was the Black Man in the crosshairs but now I believe the crosshairs are now aimed at the
«uninformed. People in general are clueless to how they are
being man-inpulated and thus, easy to control. We have to
wake ourselves up and acquire the knowledge of self and our
surroundings in order to control our destinies.
What do you listen to at home ?
DJ Lord : I listen to all types of music...always looking for
a new sound to cut. Hip Hop, DnB, Electro House, Children
records, Instructional, etc
Johnny Juice : Salsa, Jazz, classic soul, classic rock and
occasionally...something currently saturating our airwaves.
What happened to Hip Hop ?
DJ Lord : Hip Hop is in a weird state right now but you
have to understand that Hip Hop goes through stages...
What I mean by that is it evolves and revolves... We had the
Conscious rap stage... the Gangster rap stage...even the Mc
Hammer/Vanilla Ice stage... Its just that this particular stage
is taking a long time to evolve from most groups putting out
the same old fairytales... Back in the day groups took pride in
sounding different but now the bandwagon is out of control.
Johnny Juice : Hip Hop still exists and is practiced worldwide by those who understand it’s tenets. Peace, Unity, Love,
and Having Fun. Unfortunately, it is the negative aspects of
our society in general (and Hip Hop in particular) that are
being exploited and sensationalized.
You’ve been touring festivals with dozens of bands.
Which impress you the most ?
DJ Lord : So far...I would say PE and Rage Against The Machine.
Johnny Juice : Rage Against the Machine.
Have you ever sold your soul ?
DJ Lord : No
Johnny Juice : Close, I battled the Devil in a scratch contest
for my soul. The devil still comes by on Tuesdays and Thursdays for lessons.
So tell us about this new LP ?
DJ Lord : This new LP is unlike any of the other PE records
as far as the sound and balance but its still classic PE. Gary
G-Wiz has returned on production duties and he’s on fire.
Johnny Juice : It’s our 20th anniversary and who better than
Gary G Wiz to bring the noise? There have been quite a few
LPs released by PE the past few years and I feel all of them
have great material on them.
What are the roles of the DJs in the band ?
DJ Lord : I’m like the pilot of the plane....especially at the
live shows...The band plays over the track...all triggered by
me...all that plus scratches laid over the whole sound... A sick
combination
Johnny Juice : The same as it ever was. On wax, the DJ is
the assault mechanism. The sonic tip of the spear. Live, it is a
force of nature that is sonically equivalent to an Atom Bomb.
Do you guys follow the scratch scene ?
DJ Lord : I make a it a priority to keep up with
the latest updates,styles,etc....Scratching is
in my blood...Keeping up gets difficult though
with touring and all.
Johnny Juice : I do. I’m still a fan. Always
will be.
Are you the ultimate legend of Hip Hop ?
DJ Lord : There are many legends of Hip Hop... PE is considered one.
Johnny Juice : No, that would be Afrika Bambaata in my
opinion. Anyone who could turn themselves (and their peers)
around from being gang members (Black Spades) to forming
a peaceful organization for upliftment and social change (Zulu
Nation) has got to be the ultimate example of the power of
Hip Hop.
People will still be jumping to your sound when they’ll
watch Spike Lee’ s “Do The Right Thing” in a hundred
years. How do you feel about that ?
DJ Lord : That makes me feel proud to be a part of the PE movement..Yes I said «movement» and not group because that’s
what PE started as and that’s what it still is.
Johnny Juice : That is the power of Music. In the end...the
music is all that matters. We are just vessels that translate it
for the world to hear.
DJ Lord : Thanks for the interview...Be
sure to check for updates on myself as
well as Public Enemy @
www.myspace.com/djlord and
www.publicenemy.com
Peace.
«The Ortofon Digitrack needles in conjunction with
the Serato program DjLord uses really brings out the
clear sound we need at the PE live shows».
Because there is so much going on with «The Banned» and Lord on stage...clarity is key.

first track We Gonna Get, produced under the name RAF, became a Top Twenty across much of Europe and
Picotto had well and truly caught the bug.
Another RAF release followed, alongside remixes and co-writing credits for the likes of Club House, Capella
and the 49ERS. Soon the time was right to release a track under his own name and the resulting record, Bakerloo Symphony, ended up being Number 1 in Italy for eight weeks.
1998 saw him make his bid for UK stardom, with the release of the inescapable Gatecrasher anthem Lizard
a record that, for many, summed up the hegemony of the emerging trance sound. The track ended up being a
Top 30 hit and was followed by two further instalments in the reptilian trilogy Iguana and Komodo.
Mauro was the first DJ to ever play live on Top Of The Pops.
Further Top Tens followed, including I Feel Love, under the moniker CRW and Communication, recorded alongside Mario Piu.
Two artist albums, The Double Album and The Others, came next, in 2000 and 2002 respectively, as well as
remixes and productions for the likes Freddie Mercury, Jimmy Sommerville, Pet Shop Boys and U2.
It was time for Picottos metamorphosis from trance star to techno superhero to begin.
I used to play 6-hr sets at Gatecrasher, Mauro explains. But I began to grow up and the generation of people I
was playing to was growing up with me. I began to make the transition into techno because it felt right and
I loved the music.
After leaving Media Records in 2002, Picotto formed Bakerloo Music, as well as a new label Alchemy, releasing a slew of massive club tracks, including New Time New Place and the Alchemy EP. That same year he
launched his Meganite party at the Miami Winter Music conference and tickets instantly became must-haves
for the assembled danceratti.
Building on the concept he had honed in Miami, Picotto took Meganite to Ibiza in 2004, transforming the cavernous Privilege into an intimate techno paradise for those who like their music raw, tough and undiluted.
The night became one of the most successful debut parties on the island.
Following the success of the first season, Mauro returned to Privilege in 2005 with an even bigger lineup
featuring new Meganite Ibiza guests Adam Beyer and Marco Carola. The unforgettable season confirmed Meganite as one of the top events on the island, with weekly attendances reaching over 5,000.
The year 2006 was probably the most successful for Mauro and Meganite. The even was back in Ibiza at the
Superclub Privilege with new residents Marco Carola and Misstress Barbara.
In 2007 Mauro Picotto is set to release his new single “Maybe” and a new album “Now & Then”.
The new Meganite Compilation 4 and DVD will follow Meganite Ibiza season.
Mauro Picotto
Mauro Picotto is the first Italian DJ ever to create a successful event known across the globe and to be featured amongst the world’s top ten DJs.
Tens of thousands of people have experienced Meganite events, thanks to the many residencies held by
Mauro Picotto and Meganite. Besides the acclaimed Ibiza residency, Mauro and Meganite hold events in
Miami, London, New York and many more cities in Europe, Asia, Australia and America. The new Meganite
summer event for 2007 has returned to Ibiza, where Mauro Picotto, alongside his superstar guest DJs, delivered another unforgettable season.
Once upon a time Picotto longed to start making his own productions, but felt that to be successful he must
first become a DJ and learn exactly what people wanted to hear in a record. After winning the Walky Cup
competition on national TV, an event for the top DMC djs in Italy, a chance meeting with Daniele Davoli, there
to promote his Black Box single Ride On Time, led Picotto to really throw himself into music production. His
Four years now in Ibiza for your Meganite at Privilege,
could you tell us what is the concept of this night ?
At Meganite we’ve always concentrated in offering good music
and a fun atmosphere. Electronic Music lifestyle.
Is there an Italian touch ?
Although our event reaches people from anywhere and is appreciated internationally, I guess you could say it does have an Italian
touch thanks to a strong presence of Italian artists in our lineup.
with the outcome. There is already a good buzz about the new
material so I’m very excited. Evribadi has many different mixes
that are getting good reactions from DJs playing different styles
and the original mix has been getting airplay in many Radios in
Italy (DeeJay, M2O, 105) and also on BBC Radio 1.
Do you prefer producing or DJing ?
Both are very special in their own, but I was first a DJ.
Do you still play vinyls ?
I play a mix of vinyl and CDs but I have also started using Tracktor
Scratch.
What do, you listen to at home ?
I listen to and enjoy most types of music from electronic to pop
and more. I also like to listen to the radio but if I don’t like what’s
being played I go on doing other things.
Could you tell us about your latest release Lp ?
My new album “Now & Then” and the singles “Evribadi” and “Maybe, Maybe Not” are fresh out of the studio and I’m very pleased
What have you got planned for 2008 ?
Have a nice break with my family that has recently grown in size
with the arrival of my second child.

It was in the mid 80’s that STYLE began his first Mixes in his native Switzerland. He quickly discovered his
true passion and decided to take it to the other side of the border to France. He entered the French Club Dj
Championship and won it 3 times (1995, 1998 and 1999). He began his career as a resident DJ in many of the
Hexagon’s top night clubs.
Very quickly, his sets orientated towards electro-house which he doesn’t hesitate to mix with R’n’B. His music
also has traces of progressive Techno or Trance like in the Street Parade in Zurich… or in other manifestations around the world.
His career as a DJ and his knowledge in the field lead him to co-create the FUN DJ TOUR, the tour of the
French radio station, FUN RADIO, which he navigates to clubs and beaches with MC LORAN .
Since January 2006, STYLE is one of the resident DJ’s of the show PARTY FUN on FUN RADIO, which achieved, by June 2006, the largest growth of the radio with more than eight million listeners each week, making
PARTY FUN the most listened to radio show in France on the weekend.
Other than being a DJ, Style is a producer and a re-mixer. In June 2005, he launched RAGGA PUMPIN which is
still moving hundreds of dance floors due to it’s subtle mix of Ragga et Electro.
In March 2006, STLYE and LORAN decided to attack the 90’s classic : I LIKE TO MOVE IT – REAL TO REAL.
Style is currently working on his album to launch in 2008, in which he collaborates with up and coming DJ’s
from the French scene.
After more that 20 years in the field, STYLE holds a solid reputation in this professional environment. Brands
such as ORTOFON and NUMARK have made him their ambassador.
This acknowledgment was confirmed at the MUSIK MESSE 2007 in Frankfort where STYLE won “Best Performance of the International Exhibition”.
For more information on STYLE : www.myspace.com/djstylecom
What are your plans for 2008?
In 2008 I want to be more focused on production.
This year I made several remixes and a compilation but I now feel
it’s time for me to be more creative and to make my own music.
Other famous DJ’s will be working closely with me on this project
so there will be some nice surprises on this album.
What do you think of the French electro and House
scene?
I think the house and electro scene have been around in France
for a long time now and as a result other countries have always
paid attention to what is happening in the French scene. Many
DJ’s who are well-known within the French music business for
several years are now becoming more and more popular in the
international scene.
As an artist-producer, what do you think about downloading music online illegally?
The new technologie create this problem and now it will be
difficult for many people…not just DJs but music consumers as
well, to stop downloading music. I recently spoke with “Pakito”
who sold 400,000 copies of his first single, 100,000 copies of
the second and 60,000 copies of his album which is absolutely
amazing nowadays! He told me about his frustration seeing these
figures decreasing and the loss of sales and profits due to people
illegally downloading music. He added that these days it’s better
to perform live in clubs and get people to know your style and your
name that way. Another way to get known is making music to be
played on radios only. This allows the audience to get familiar with
you and makes sure you get bookings for the rest of the year.
You have been a resident DJ with Party Fun every Friday and Saturday evenings from 21h to 00h00 on FUN
RADIO since January 2006. Do you feel grateful?
I didn’t feel that way in the beginning, it was only after reading
some comments on several professional websites dedicated to
the music business that I realised how grateful and lucky I actually
was. It’s a great feeling when well-known people in the music
world give you recognition and think positively of your work.
Which DJs influence your style?
As a production DJ so many people have touched me with their
different spirits and styles: Martin Solveig, Laurent Pautrat,
Joachim Garraud and Axwell. These people blow me away – they
are just so talented!
But overall without any hesitation, my favourite has to be Laurent
Wolf!
How do you see your evolution?
I feel like all my dreams have come through so far and that I’m
going in the right direction. I’ve had to work hard and make
sacrifices to get where I am. Having good contacts definitely help
as well. Obviously I’ve had downs as well as ups but I just try to
lead a healthy life and surround myself with my family and close
friends. My faith in God also helped me a lot. I’m happy and proud
that I’ve had the chance to achieve all of this and I can’t wait to
see what the future holds for me…
On our last trip to San Francisco, we were invited to
visit or rather experience the Recombinant Media
Labs by Naut Humon. An extraordinary place directed
by an even more extraordinary … human (or shall we
say not…quite human).
Conductor, curator and composer, label director of
Asphodel, Naut Humon is not quite the original scratcher, but he is the original believer in turntablism. He
early recognised the artistic potential of such talents
as the Invisibl Scratch Piklz, The Allies, Mixmaster
Mike and the X-Ecutioners in a label full of stars
(Biosphere, John Cage, DJ Spooky, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Steve Roach, Lou Reed and dozens of pioneers of
experimental music).
After incredible shows around the most prestigious
festival in the world Naut Humon is at the head of an
incredible structure: the Recombinant Media Lab.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW AND SHOW AT THE RML ON
THE ORTOFON PROMOTIONAL DVD
RECOMBINANT MEDIA LABS was founded to create, research, and portray Spatial Media Synthesis; the science of projecting image and sound objects in 3-dimensional space. RML cultivates radical methodologies for experiential engineering; exploring performative processes which
expand the formal aesthetic and technological boundaries of immersive installation and surround cinema.
The San Francisco facility contains a flexible black box environment that houses a high definition multichannel audio-visual system known as Surround Traffic Control. This full fidelity
array consists of a design specification for 10 screens in 360 degrees supported by an
ultra impact 16.8.2 horizontal and vertical sound diffusion system scalable for all types of
rectangular rooms... The RML theatre provides all international artists in residence the
opportunity to take their creative impulse to the furthest frontiers of sonic cinematic
language and present them in the formats for exhibition, symposia, workshops and
real-time AV concerts. «Recombinant» is a term derived from the field of genetics.
Springing from this media grid is a process which illustrates how an electronically strained
«offspring» comes to possess cultural characteristics not always present in either «parent».
Asphodel’s RML is the ideal location for hosting screening, symposia, conferencing and workshops
Asphodel Studios represents a culmination of years of artistic research and technological development. By utilizing the recording studio as a compositional tool, Asphodel Studios has achieved the
creation of numerous critically acclaimed recordings and performance documents, which have been
instrumental to the evolution of innovative contemporary audio production.
Centrally located, the facility contains an elegant composite of modern and vintage equipment. Our
Mix A is a spacious acoustically-exacting environment, featuring a 72-channel Neve console, PMC and
Dynaudio surround monitoring, Protools HD and 24-channel Analog recording, and a definitive selection
of outboard processors. Instruments available for use include: a 1908 Model A Steinway, a Hammond B3
organ, and an array of analog modular synthesizers and digital sound modules.
The studio also offers a complete mastering and video post/DVD authoring suite as well as a variety of
unique tracking spaces.

DJ Woody is one of Britains most respected hip hop
dj’s and arguably one of the most innovative and
musical turntablists of his generation.
Responsible for the invention of a host of groundbreaking scratches and turntablist techniques including
his famous signature 'Woodpecker' scratch, not many
DJ's can lay claim to having had US legend DJ Qbert
on the telephone asking for tips. Not surprising then
that turntable giants Vestax were quick to take up
some of Woody's ideas for their new revolutionary
'Controller One' turntable, the worlds first ever turntable to play full musical scales.
Woody's background doesn't quite fit in with media
driven stereotypes of a hip hop artist, hailing from
the grimey northern industrial town of Burnley in
England it is perhaps this unlikely setting that aided
Woody's maverick style.
His love affair with hip hop culture began back in
1985 when Casio was king and along with thousands
of other broke young hip-hopers he invented the
'pause-tape' looping method. A rapper by default for
many years due to a lack of equipment, Woody's DJ
career started in 1992 when a part-time job helped
him acquire the tools for the trade. The rest of the
90's were spent perfecting his DJ skills with his crew
the Handroids, making mixtapes and tracks with his
boy MC Tigger and building his reputation on the
Manchester club scene.
In 1999 Woody entered his first dj competition and by
2001 Woody had become the worlds most successful
scratch dj by gaining more major championship titles
than any of his contemparies. On taking a trip to the
mecca of the scratch dj, San Francisco, Woody made
history by becoming the first ever European dj to win
the coveted World ITF title (International Turntablist
Federation), following in the footsteps of such legendary dj's Babu (Dilated Peoples) and A-Trak (World
DMC champion, Kanye West DJ). The following year
saw Woody become 2 times World Champion when he
stormed the Vestax Extravaganza World finals taking
out competition from 14 countries.
Unlike many scratch happy turntablists Woody's
roots lay firmly as an allround DJ and in the true hip
hop tradition of Kool Herc and Bambaata, he draws
from a broad musical palette to rock the worlds
dancefloors as effectively as he's murdered dj's in
battle. Over the years Woody has shared the stage
alongside many of musics biggest names including
Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Cypress Hill, De La Soul
and DJ Shadow.
In the last 5 years Woody has toured the world
relentlessly in various incarnations taking in over
35 countries along the way. Spotted by an American
agent in 2001 whilst performing in Hollywood at the
World Vestax Finals, Woody was asked to join the US
'Superrappin Tour' as the only Brit alongside US hip
hop major players including Madlib aka Quasimoto,
Wildchild and Declaime (Stones Throw), providing
American audiences with a rare glimpse of the cream
of UK turntablism.
The following year he joined UK hip hop's most
accomplished tour the 'Russian Percussian' alongside
UK super producer DJ Vadim and vocalists Blu Rum
13 and Yarah Bravo. This touring outfit was later to
form Ninjatunes' hip hop phenomenon 'One Self'.
Woody recorded the perfect musical scratchscape to
compliment Vadims production on their 2005 debut
LP 'Children Of Possiblity' and the One Self band had
their premier performance to a sold out crowd at London's famous Jazz Cafe. They have since performed
to crowds of up to 30 000 at many of Europes biggest
festivals and most prestigious venues, from the main
stage at The Big Chill, Sonar or the epic Monegro
festival to Fabric in London or the The Red Club in
St.Petersburg. The group were described by the Times as "best newcomers of 2005" and were Channel
4's Slashmusic Showcase champions.
In April 2006 Woody released 'A Country Practice'
on his Woodwurk imprint, it received a unanimous
'thumbs up' from the music press, described as "Jawdroppingly awesome" by DMC Update, Lodown Magazine said "Honestly, I think we finally found an album
by a turntablist that is absolutely worth listening to
'til the very last second!", it was also recently listed
in Blues & Soul magazines' best releases of 2006.
Aside from collaborations with DJ Vadim and One
Self, Woody's cuts have graced tracks from artists
ranging from UK Hip Hop vets Krispy, Evil Ed (Jamoni), The Planets, electronica supremo Sirconical
(Twisted Nerve), UK rockers i-DEF-i and even a remix
for the legendary Gangstarr.
So what's does 2007 hold for Woody, well for starters he is now the official tour DJ for latin hip hop
superstar Mala Rodriguez (Universal Records) and is
currently playing some of Europes biggest festivals,
having already this year shared the stage with artists
such as the Beastie Boys and Snoop Doggy Dog.
There are imminent releases from Aquasky, DJ Vadim
and Zebra Traffic's Dirty Diggers all to have received
the Woody treatment and he is currently working
with the seminal UK dance music producer Tim Simenon (Seal, Depeche Mode) on tracks for a whole new
Bomb The Bass LP. 2007 will also see the fruition of
Woody's longtime collaboration with musical cohort,
drummer Carl Sharrocks (808 State, Tool Shed, Twisted Nerve), in there band Extra Limbs, a studio album
and live show are in the works.
"Woody is without doubt one of the most creative
forces in djing the UK scene has ever produced. The
man has a roll call of world titles and deservedly
so..... I'm personally very interested in what the man
has to offer in the form of recorded work, if it's half
as forward thinking as his battle routines we are all
in for a real treat!!"
Prime Cuts (Scratch Perverts)
"Dj Woody is one of the most outstandingly creative
Djs I've had the pleasure of working with. As a Dj,
Woody has pushed the boundries of turntablism into
the future. He is one of the funkiest and most talented Dj's the UK has ever produced.
DJ Biznizz - (THA EN4CERS / TY - Big Dada)
People may think there’s a gap between battles and parties but DJ ND is the missing link
between the two aspects of djing!
ND started as a turntablist back in 1998 and quickly entered the club scene. His skills rapidly brought him to
the top of both worlds. In 2003, he joined “The Guild” with Mister Aul and Magicut. Together, they got second
place at the DMC World Team Finals in London. This marked the beginning of his “battle career”.
Winner of several national and international battles, ND got the opportunity to brake the “till-then-locked-doors”
of many famous European clubs: The Man Ray (Paris – France), the Paard van Troje (Den Haag – The Nederland),
The Taksim (Bochum – Germany), the Acqua Club (Zurich – Switzerland), the Hall des sports of Tunis (Tunis –
Tunisia), The Loft 16 (Vienna – Austria), etc.
In 2004, he joined The MP Family: a dj crew made of club djs, producers and event managers. He didn’t forget
his first love and continued to practice and create routines. At the age of 25, he already took control of the
wheels for the opening act of DJ Q.Bert during his “European Qfo tour” at the Rex Club in Paris. More recently, DJ ND mixed with famous international DJ’s such as Cutkiller, Max Glazer, Clinton Sparks, etc. He
also spinned at the after parties of Nas, Rihanna, Kelis, The Roots, Elephant Man, etc.
Besides his turntablist and Club career, DJ ND has also been active on the radio. He had his own
mix show on a national radio in Belgium.
As a complete DJ and turntablist, ND did not neglect the production side of the job. He
released various successful mixtapes and also produced acclaimed breakbeat records,
a serie of well known breaks called « Friestyle breaks » (vol 1, 2 and 3).
2007 is the year of its International breakthrough. Miami, London, Brussels, Frankfurt,
Vienna, Rome, Moscow, and Beijing: ND went around the World…
He made a DVD of it! In the future, ND might go for a last DMC and continue to travel
around the World.
Other projects include getting more into production and create his own poadcast.
Practicing with is homies dj Unkut and Dj Swordz is also part of his job…

DJ DADDY K
When did you start Deejaying?
This year, I am celebrating my 25th year in Hip Hop. I started
in 1982 as a b-boy and practiced all disciplines of Hip Hop. In
1987 I fell in love with deejaying.
Why did you choose Deejaying?
After being recognized as the European champion of b-boying,
I wanted to get into a different discipline. That’s when I went to
an LL Cool J concert and saw his DJ (Dj Bobcat). All I wanted
was to be like him.
What’s your style?
I am a battle DJ who won the DMC / Vestax / ITF competitions in
France, Belgium and Luxembourg. Then I got into the club scene where I have fun doing parties with a mix of dance moods
spiced with turntablism.
What are the most important moments of your career?
My whole career is full of them. It would take a full page to
list them all. My biggest satisfaction is to live from my love
of Hip Hop
What do you think of the development of your Art in
China?
There is a lot of work for our culture to develop over there. It’s
really just the beginning, there is a lot more to come.
What kind of influence does China have or may have
on your art?
A DJ is always on the look out for new sounds, China offer
therefore an all new perspective.
What are your future projects?
I am doing a big party live on TV for my 20 years of deejaying
as well as hosting the biggest Belgium radio show of all times: 8 hours on the air non stop for this special occasion. I
am very proud to represent our culture in Belgium. Otherwise I
will be spinning in L.A., NY and for the next Eating Frogs Tour
of course.
Graffiti by Ceet & Noé Two
Ceet: Graffiti artist & Dj
Kongo
China has got some of the biggest and more dynamic cities in
the world, which makes it an urban playground very attractive
for the development of Hip Hop culture.
Calligraphy is at the heart of Chinese culture; it is therefore logical that Graffiti artists are attracted to this country.
CEET a Graffiti artist from Toulouse (France) has been living in
Shenzhen for more than three years and he has inspired and
motivated dozens of Chinese artists, amongst them the very talented YYY, PERS, TAM and UNCLE, despite the difficulty to find
spray paint cans and the risk of a still illegal art.
For CEET, the Eating Frogs Tour was a dream which became
a real project: to put together Chinese artists (Graffiti artists,
B.Boys and DJs) looking for information with French ones searching for a virgin country where the original value of Hip Hop
could be exported and where the potential would be enormous.
For the second year running, French Hip Hop invaded peacefully Canton and Shenzhen. Public was receptive and enthusiastic
with a real envy to learn.
The ties between China and France are consolidated, creating a
real urban culture bridge between the two countries. A culture
born in the USA, exported in France and now invading China
where the clothes worn by Hip Hop fans are made and that
Chinese wear after having seen them in western video clip.
This way globalisation doesn’t seem so bad.
In the Hip Hop dance, Asia has already some of the best B.Boy
teams in the world particularly with Japan and Korea, and China
will probably reach the same level soon. The same will happen
to the DJs who are rapidly making their mark and that we will
see soon in the international battle circuit.

DJ DOZE
When did you start deejaying?
I started when I was 15 and my very first experience was at
the French DMC Championship in 1996, with Dj Poska. We
finished third.
Why did you choose Deejaying?
I fell over some DMC World Championship videos, and I
knew that it was what I wanted to do. I bought all the equipments and I seriously trained.
What’s your style?
I rapidly was in Dj battles more than in parties. I was
able to master techniques that I use during those parties.
I realise that people enjoy those technical effects when I
mix.
What are the most important moments of your
career?
The big tour that I did in 2004 and 2005 with the rap
singer Kool Shen (NTM). It gave us the opportunity to
experience unforgettable moments and concerts in places
such as L’Olympia and The Zenith in Paris.
What do you think of the development of your Art in
China?
There are many good Djs in China but less with real
technical
skills. It gave me a really good opportunity and I’m happy
to live here now and spread the message.
What kind of influence does China have or may
have on your art?
China is full of different sounds we don’t use in Europe,
more or less useful for Djs. I already did a lot of researches
particularly on the Chinese percussions with very interesting rhythms.
What are your future projects ?
Eating Frogs Tour of course and also composing for
French and maybe American hip hop artists.
