Signs that You’re Working in a Racially Charged

Black people are often
accused of being
super sensitive and
over the top when it
comes to race
relations and we just
may be a little
sensitive but who
wouldn’t be? Our
ancestors were
oppressed for over
200 years by the
people that posses
the most power in this
country and then once
we were freed we
were treated as if we
were an incompetent
species and bound up
by silly protocol like
the Jim Crow Laws in
an effort to abort our
God given potential. I
think we have a right
to be a little sensitive.
However, that is not
the nature of this
article. The point of
this article is to simply
separate true racism
in the work place from
racial paranoia. For
the most part, people

Of course, I was the

just say that I never

racism takes on a

Here are a few signs to

Jazmine Talks Purpose with Gospel Music Industry Exec
Tracy Williamson
By Jazmine Rogers
Often times in the entertainment
industry the public is only able to see
the artist, the music and the image that
is before them never truly realizing how
much hard work or how many
dedicated team members are behind
them helping them to be the fabulous
entertainer that sashays across award
show stages or delivers heartfelt
performances.
Tracy Williamson is a hard working
career woman that knows more than a
little about what goes behind the
production of Gospel artists. Over the
years she has worn several hats in the
industry from Marketing, A&R and
Label Director of Tyscot Records,
songwriter, producer and has even
launched her own Gospel marketing
agency, Tre7 Inc which currently
represents artists such as Brian
Reeves & Heart After God, Tyscot
Records, The Chicago Mass Choir and
Kevon Carter just to name a few. As a
songwriter and producer she has
worked with artists such as Shirley
Murdock, The Rance Allen Group,
DeAndre Patterson, Bishop Leonard
and the list goes on.
Over the last year I was blessed
enough to work with Tracy on several
projects and I can truly say I am happy
that God allowed us to cross paths.
Tracy took time out of her super hectic
schedule to chat with us about some of
the projects that she is currently
working on as well as God-ordained
purpose and what it means to her.

she is.
started in 2008 and it’s a mentoring
program and we have different
programs such as theater where
the children put on plays and
musicals. Some of the plays have
actually been featured on MTV and
featured on Associated Press.
Lastly, two or three times a month I
do a video blog on Youtube with a
worship ministry I have called
Private Appointment with God
where I just encourage people to
walk into their destiny through the
Word of God and the things that
God has to say to us and about our
lives. What inspired the Imagine Youth
Program?
Well, years ago it was told to me
that I had a gift for talking to
children and I believe it came from
different people watching how the
youth responded to me. They were
drawn to me in different ways, you
know the encouragement that I
would give them. It was something
that I kind of ran from but at some
point I just realized that was one of
my assignments in life. It really
came down to me accepting the
call to help the youth through
mentoring and encouraging them
to as well walk into their destiny. At
Imagine Youth we say that if you
can imagine it then it is possible.
So it really came from me watching
the different interactions that I’ve
had with the youth and stepping
out, putting those gifts to use as far
as helping youth in the community.
Good Question! Tracy Williamson is a
passionate and faith-driven woman
who follows God and is lead by his
instructions.
It has been said that you know that
your purpose is to help others see
their destiny in God. How and when
was this revealed to you?
Well, I guess I can say this was
revealed to me when I was about 12 or
13 years old. Not necessarily saying
back then I knew I would help people
to see their destiny in God but I would
definitely say that I possessed the gift
of bringing the best out of people at an
early age. For example when I was
younger I started a production
company and wanted to produce
music. I noticed that through that I was
able to help people to be better. I was
good at helping them to achieve and
go forth in who they are called to be.
What is your personal definition of
purpose?
Well I believe the word purpose means
where you are supposed to be in life
and how you use the gifts that you
have throughout your journey.
What advice can you offer those
who have yet to discover their
purpose?
5
New York Trend NYC
What’s in the future for Tracy
Williamson?
The advice that I would give is to
really think about the things you like
to do on a daily basis, think about the
things that you talk about the most
when you have conversations with
your friends and your family
members, or just general
conversations, things that seem to
come up all the time, when you’re
sitting by yourself what is it that you
think about? There are simple steps
and I think it’s pretty simple I don’t
think that it is a huge way of finding
out what your purpose is. The first
thing I would say to do is to seek God
and ask him to show you but in that
process think about the things that
you talk about because the way that
he will show you is through your
conversation and he’ll show you
different things that you do
consistently. Sometimes we kind of
overlook those things because we
feel like our purpose has to be some
really big grand thing. So think about
the things that you do consistently,
think about the things that you are
passionate about.
You’re a woman that wear many
hats. Can you explain the current
projects and endeavors that you
are working on?
I will continue my work with Tre7, I
will continue working in the music
industry with different clients and
also I want to progress with the
ministry side as far as getting the
Word out to people as far as what
God is saying about stepping out
into their destiny and walking in
their calling and really hearing God
and knowing that it is Him. So just
keeping up with Tre7, Imagine
Youth Programs. I do want to
launch an Imagine Youth Location
in Chicago, which is wear I’m from.
Right now the program is set up in
Indianapolis, Indiana as well as
Ohio in the Dayton and Cincinnati
areas. I want to keep the same
things going with the current
companies that I have and just
expanding from where I currently
am with everything.
Well, I have quite a few things going
on in three different areas. One
being music. I have worked in the
music industry for over 12 years as a
music industry executive. The
second thing is that I work with youth
and the third thing is ministry. Now
with the music industry I currently
work for different clients in Gopsel
music under my company Tre7,
which I started about 4 or 5 years
ago. Well, let me back track. In 2000
I started out working with Tyscot
Records doing marketing and A&R
and also Label Director for Tyscot.
Now, Tyscot is currently one of my

time. I also have a youth program

Wheat germ is a

thiamin, zinc and

essential fatty acids and

level decreases chances of
breakage because it

There are tons of
different products what
makes wheat germ so
special?
There are several ways that
people add wheat germ to
their hair regimen. Some
use plain wheat germ oil
while others may mix wheat
germ oil with other products
to create homemade
moisturizers. If you’re lazy
with a hectic schedule like

products that already

Winter Hair Care: How NOT to be Bald by the Time
Summer Comes
I’m not sure which season is
more brutal on AfricanAmerican hair, summer or
winter since they are both
extremes. No matter what the
season is our hair always
seems to take a beating one
way or another; however,
doesn’t it always seem like by
the time summer rolls around
and the hats and scarves come
off a lot of women seem like
they’ve lost a significant amount
of hair (No, I don’t mean the
people who intentionally cut
their hair). In light of this, here
are two simple winter hair care
tips and habits to avoid for the
duration of the winter.
1. Wool is the devil
So, I know that pea coat is cute
and you wanna strut down the
street rocking your wool coat
with your hair “flowy” and flying
in the wind like Sarah Jessica
Parker out of an episode of ‘Sex
and the City’ but unless you
have a FULL weave that style is

another kind of material. Lastly, wool
scarves and the answer is simple.
Don’t do it unless you have an updo.
2. Moisture is your friend As always, no matter that the
season is moisture is key to
avoiding breakage. Hair breaks
when it isn’t properly moisturized
and black hair is just extra thirsty for
some reason. So, you should
maintain a daily moisturizing
regimen. I suggest natural products
mainly because they don’t contain
harsh chemicals but, choose
whatever products you like the
choice is yours. Be sure to give your
ends extra attention when
moisturizing since they are the
oldest part of your hair.
not for you. Wool, as I said
before is like kryptonite to black
hair. If you just must wear that
wretched wool coat then you
should consider an up-do.

Other options include:
Another major threat comes in
the form of wool hats. As cute as Protective hairstyles for winter
they are they’re pulling your hair
out and breaking it off strand by And that my friends is how you
strand so you may want to survive the winter without going bald.

INTERVIEW
By Jazmine Rogers
Gospel Artist Todd
Curry Dishes on
His Latest Project
How often do we hear preachers yell
over the pulpit “Quit playing church”?
We’ve heard that phrase so often that
it has become a weak cliche. Until now
that is. Todd Curry & Focus has taken
the platform that they have been given
as Gospel artists and turned it into a
movement the brings the glory back to
God. The Quit Playin’ Church
movement is “an organized effort to
promote the end of playing church
games in the body of Christ.” and from
this movement came a song as well as
the groups sophomore album. I was
able to catch up with Todd Curry &
Focus visionary Elder Todd Curry to
chat for a few regarding the “Quit
Playin’ Church” movement, the current
state of the church and Nicki Minaj’s
outlandish Grammy’s performance.
If a person were to ask you who is
Todd Curry & Focus were what
would you tell them?
Well, this may sound cliche’ but I am
literally a child of God and I’m just a
young man that loves the Lord and
loves music, loves people and really
wants to proclaim the gospel to
people. I just want to see souls saved
and that is the whole movement of the
group and the heart of the group if you
will. It’s just soul winning and helping
other people around the world. That’s
us in a nutshell. the lying, the fighting for positions. Oh
my goodness I’ve seen preachers
taking folks’ money. I’ve seen it all and
it bothered me so bad growing up and
even now because I am about soul
winning and I am seeing too many
hurting people that are really dying and
we’re in church, a place that it
supposed to be the safe haven and
we’re playing these little church games
amongst ourselves like ‘who’s gonna
be great’ and all of this other mess and
the souls are sitting up here dying and
can’t even come to the refuge that
they’re supposed to be coming to for
help because we’re playing games
amongst ourselves.
What are the dangers of “playing
church” in your opinion?
The biggest danger again is turning
away people that are coming for help. I
was just in Augusta and I was on the
street and we were promoting the CD
and everything on the street and a
Caucasian young man came up to me.
He was all tatted up and had all kinds
of piercings everywhere. He came up
to me and was talking and I asked him
“Do you listen to Gospel or Christian
music?” and he said “No, I don’t listen
to that mess.” and the issue was I
found out that he was raised in the
church and he said he would never set
foot back in the church because of the
way that the people acted inside of the
church. That thing hurt me so bad that
the church is turning away people and
the blood is definitely on our hands. So
this again, getting back to the
movement there’s a lot of Gospel
artists tripping, trying to make it
number one on the Billboard Charts,
making folks shout and fall out on
stage and then getting off stage and…
don’t even get me started I might end
up somewhere else. They’re sleeping
around with each other and all of this
kind of stuff and I’m sitting here
watching this like ‘how can you do
this’? Preachers are the same. I’m just
sick of the games and this is the
detriment of playing “church games”
because we are killing the people that
we are supposed to be helping.
Wow.
Can you explain exactly what “Qut
Playin’ Church” means?
(Laughs) Look at this I done ruined the
whole interview.
Wow! Now, that may not be a short
answer.Well, first of all I was reared in
the church. My father was a pastor
and a bishop even now so all of my life
I’ve been raised in the church and
being a pastor’s son, a preacher’s
son, a PK as they call it I have seen it
all. I’ve seen the church game where
people act one way on Sunday and
then act another way throughout the
week. I’ve seen people coming from
the club Saturday night and then
leading praise and worship Sunday
morning. I’ve witnessed the backbiting,
Nope not at all. Its just that I was
raised in the church as well and can
identify with almost everything that
you’re saying. These are subjects
that aren’t touched on often.
8
New York Trend NYC
And that’s the problem. That’s my
biggest problem and it’s like we put up
the blinders and we’re so much trying
to build the church and we’re forgetting
about the souls. I tell people all the
time that we’ve kind of placed a
monument somewhere stating that this
is the way church is supposed to be
but a monument can’t be moved. I
tell people all the time that God
wants us to be in a movement and
instead of picking up the monument
and saying “this is church” he wants
us in a movement where he picks us
up and tells us where to go. We’ve
forgotten all about God. In all of this
its all about us. Its just troubling.
Do you think that it is possible for
the games to stop or will they be
ever present?
Wow, now that’s a great question.
The bottom line is that the Bible
speaks of the end of times and
what’s going to happen and how
men will be “lovers of themselves”(2
Timothy 3:2) and the “great falling
away”. So we’re actually just walking
into what God has already ordained
and said was going to happen. My
thing is with everybody is instead of
saying “This is just the way its gonna
be” make sure you’re not the one
that’s falling away. Make sure you’re
not the one that’s jacking up and
turning other folks away. That’s my
response to a whole lot of people. I
understand that this kind of stuff is
gonna happen but the bottom line is
somebody somewhere has got to
take a stand and again another
cliche’ but if I could just help one
person along the way I really believe
that my efforts are not in vain.
What does Todd Curry & Focus
want the world to know?
You can live saved. You can live holy
and its not like I’m putting myself up
on a pedestal or anything like that.
That’s one thing that I really wanna
stress because Todd Curry is a hot
mess just to keep it real. I know I’m
not perfect but the thing is that God
knows that I’m striving. Its almost
like Abraham. God called Abraham
righteous and it wasn’t because
Abraham was perfect or this great
dude. He had mistakes and stuff but
God called Abraham righteous
because Abraham believed God and
that’s where I’m at today. I just
believe God I believe His word. I am
not perfect but I am striving for that.
I’m striving to make it in but again, I
want to help somebody along the
way and take the mask off. A lot of
sinners are looking at us at church
and they’re kind of like ‘Well, I can’t
be them’ and ‘I can’t do this’. I’ve
made mistakes and I share with
people a lot of times my mistakes.
I’m about as candid as they get but,
the thing is I also want to remind
them that God is a restorer and He
can keep you if you wanna be kept.
What can we expect to see from
Todd Curry & Focus in either the
near future or the distant future?
February 9, 2011 - February 15, 2011
This movement. God has really
given us the vision of workshops
and really traveling the country and
dealing with this issue so that we
can help the body of Christ as a
whole. It’s kind of funny I haven’t
even mentioned our music (laughs)
but, even through our music I want
people to be able to feel our
sincerity. My thing is anyone can
talk a good game but get to know
me. Get to really understand who
Todd Curry is and understand who
Focus is. This is not just another
group of singers. We’re ministers
and everybody has some ministry
in them. One thing about Focus is
even when we first started it’s
probably the most crazy thing that
happened but we went two and a
half years without singing
anywhere. These are folks that are
praise and worship leaders and
ministers and everything but we
went without singing anywhere
because we wanted to make sure
that our personal lives were right.
We had to get our own selves
together before we could go out to
the nations and minister to other
people.
That’s deep.
So, for people that want to know
about that “Quit Playin’ Church”
movement and Todd Curry &
Focus how can they get in
contact with you? How can they
be a part of the movement? Are
y o u o n Tw i t t e r, F a c e b o o k ,
website? How can they find you?
Wow. Well, first of all the website is
www.quitplayinchurch.com and
actually we have a sweepstakes
going on right now through our
website so yall definitely go check
that out. Our twitter is
@quitplaynchurch. I’m on
Facebook yall can find me Todd
Curry and Quit Playin Church is on
Facebook. We’re a little bit of
everywhere and if you want to
contact us even with telephone our
toll free number is 866-565-9057.
Again, this is our sophomore
project and the Lord has blessed us
with national distribution and
everything. We’re getting ready to
release digitally soon through
Trevino Music Group and
Universal. So the Lord is opening
so many doors and I feel so
humbled that he chose to use me in
all of my mess. I think the Lord
chose to use me because I have
that I don’t care attitude. So folks
are talking and looking. I know
people are going to be against this
and have been against this but
somebody has got to take a stand
and I guess I’m the right one to
really take that stand for God.

TECH TRENDS
Introducing PS Vita
Nintendo, with their assorted
versions of the DS console,
have dominated handheld
gaming for years. Since the
introduction a few years back
of the PSP, Sony has tried to
compete in the on-the-gogaming market, too, but with
limited success. Here’s a look
at Sony’s spanking new PS
Vita, a handheld that aims to
change that.
Screen and Controls
The PlayStation Vita sports a
gorgeous, 5-inch, 960 x 544

touchscreen renders rich
color, with deep blacks and
sharp textures.
Besides finger input, users will
rely on the primary gaming
controls: a classic D-pad on
the left, and the traditional
PlayStation triangle, circle,
square and X buttons on the
right. The PS Vita is also the
first handheld to incorporate
dual thumbsticks. Further,
the rear of the device is a
touch sensitive pad, so you
can run a finger across the
back in certain games,
triggering an on-screen
response.
Finally, there are front and
rear-facing VGA cameras
(both modest 640 x 480
resolution). These will come
into play particularly in
augmented reality gaming,
in which game elements are
added atop real video or
photos. In all, the controls
are responsive and tight,
and many of the games take
advantage of both touch and
traditional, in some cases
giving the player a choice.
Games, Games, Games
Any self-respecting gamer
will tell you that it’s not about
graphics, quad core
processors and slick control
schemes that make a great
platform. It’s the games. And
in this department, the Sony
Vita delivers with a stellar
launch lineup. First, there’s a
terrific Vita version of their

series, with “Golden Abyss.”
Also available at launch, the
impressive “wipeout: 2048,”
and “Little Deviants” for
younger players. 3rd party
publishers are all in, too. Off
the bat, there are great titles
from EA (“FIFA Soccer”),
Capcom (“Ultimate Marvel vs.

(“Touch My Katamari”). What’s
more, there are literally
hundreds of titles for the

the Playstation Network (friends,
gamer info, etc) is available on
the Vita, as well. Users can also
use Skype, Flickr and Netflix.
There’s further support to
download music, movies and TV
from the Playstation Store.
It’s a fantastic media device, to
be sure. And with access to the
web and messaging, parents
can set controls accordingly,
blocking sites, browser use, and
purchases.
Sticker Shock?
With millions of households
owning Nintendo DS handheld
gaming devices, and even more
with smartphones and iPads with
solid game options, nobody
really needs another gizmo to
play on. And the Vita, is hardly a
toy. it packs the processing
wallop of the full-sized PS3
mothership.
Note that some games even
support PS Vita play against
others on the PS3, so you’re
quite literally taking your game
with you from the livingroom.
But if you’re a serious gamer
(especially one with a PS3), or
just someone who covets the
newest, shiniest object out there,
this won’t disappoint. Be

and using it on a table as a stand
prevents your fingers from
connecting with the rear
touchpad. If you just want a
secure, durable case, it works
well enough, but then why not
just go with a less expensive,
easier to slide in or out of,
slipcase? Sony makes one of
those, too: The $20 PS Vita
“travel pouch” is a soft case
which uses a neoprene liner and
includes storage spots for four
game cards and two mesh
pockets for extras, like a pair of
headphones (the “carrying case”
offers extra storage for nothing).
Note: There’s also an official Vita
“starter kit” that includes a soft

and card case , a pie ce of

A protective case. The Vita
sells without a slipcover, and
with its protruding thumbsticks
and jumbo 5-inch screen, there’s
a lot to safeguard. Your options
here are mixed. The official $20
Sony “carrying case” certainly
does the job with its stiff front/
rear protective panels, but it uses
a pair of mandatory snap-in,
snap-out clips to secure the
handheld. The idea’s that you’re
able to leave the Vita in the case

you get — a tiny piece of limpid part where you’re either a
plastic with the heaviness of an cheerleader for Sony’s cause, or

and sticky on one side — but they exploiting consumers by selling
pay dividends if you’re worried the Vita without built-in storage
about scratching the Vita’s glass and offering proprietary, highscreen. The ones I bought came priced memory cards. Enough’s
with a multi-layer application been said about the markup
mechanism that was sadly too already, just know that you’ll pay
clever for me. After futzing with $20-$25 for 4GB, $30-$35 for
it for 10 minutes and failing 8GB, $60 for 16GB and $100 for
miserably, I gave up, made sure 32GB (the $5 markup on the first
the Vita’s screen was clean, two is courtesy GameStop, if
carefully peeled everything off you’re wondering). What’ll you
the protective panel, and gently need? I have all of the launch
dropped it into place, just like games here, and most only
the ones I’ve used on my require 4MB (though Uncharted:

accomplished). Expect to pay FIFA Soccer needs 160MB). If

you’re sticking with retail
games, 4GB gets the job
done. But if you want to
actually download anything
from the PS Store — older
PSP games, full Vita ones
which cost $5 less than their
retail versions — even
16GB’s going to cramp your
style. The downloadable
version of Uncharted:
Golden Abyss clocks in at
over 3GB, meaning you’d
barely fit five similar-sized
games on a 16GB card. You
can backup saves (and
games) to your computer or
PS3, and kudos to Sony for
supporting this, but isn’t the
Vita supposed to be selfsufficient instead of reliant
on ancillary devices?

MOVIE TREND
Safe House
Starring - Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Robert Patrick
The Story - A young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house.
But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.
The Buzz - Daniel Espinosa makes an impressive Stateside debut with what looks to be
a major win at the box office this weekend. We’ll be very curious to see Ryan Reynolds
square off between the Denzel Washington both story-wise and acting.
Journey 2: The
Mysterious Island
The Vow
Starring - Rachel
McAdams, Channing
Tatum, Sam Neill, Jessica
Lange
Starring - Dwayne “The Rock”
Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, Michael
Caine
The Story - A car
accident puts Paige
(McAdams) in a coma,
and when she wakes
up with severe
memory loss, her
husband Leo (Tatum)
works to win her heart
again.
The Story - Sean Anderson
partners with his mom's husband
on a mission to find his
grandfather, who is thought to be
missing on a mythical island.
The Buzz - This is the most awkward shoehorning of Dwayne
Johnson into an action film to date; at least his character in the
upcoming G.I. Joe sequel exists in that world's mythology, and the
Fast and Furious franchise has never strived for narrative
credibility. I think the original Journey's worldwide gross triggered
the sequel greenlighting, and I sense that U.S. audiences will yet
again only be marginally interested this quest to find Michael
Caine. Five bucks says Josh Hutcherson has already forgot he
made this movie as he prepares to spend the next few years in the
Hunger Games universe; meanwhile, Kristen Davis finds herself
nearly benched in yet another movie.
The Buzz - What do Rachel McAdams and
Channing Tatum have in common? They've both
starred in adaptations of Nicholas Sparks novels;
meanwhile, in North Carolina, Sparks must be
thinking that this story would have made for a bestseller. With Valentine’s Day right around the
corner, find it no surprise that this movie may be
the top list for couples this weekend (for the ladies
at least... I think).

For more than a decade, Con Edison and The Town Hall have co-sponsored a
vibrant Black History program featuring free performances for New York City school children.
This year, Toshi Reagon and BIGLovely took young audiences on a musical journey. “Where We Are From, Where We
Are, Where We Are Going” was a Music-Dance conversation that bridged decades and defied genres. Says Toshi,
“History informs everything I do.” When Toshi unleashed her powerful voice and joined with her
band of vocalists and instrumentalists, she connected to Rock, Soul, Folk, Blues, Work Songs,
Sacred Songs and Reggae. She connected to the historical struggle for dignity and civil rights
reflected in lyrics and sounds. She made history sing. Con Edison. ON IT.

Predicting The Grammy’s
A i r i n g o n C B S o n S u n d a y,
F e b r u a r y 1 2 , T h e G ra m m y s
stands as music’s biggest award
show. It’s a night where all the
musical achievements of the past
year can be appreciated and
artists can network among some
of the biggest acts of the year,
including the ubiquitous Adele
and Lady Gaga, along with
Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Bruno
Mars. “Winning a Grammy says,
‘My peers believe this body of
work was the best in its class for
t h a t y e a r, ” s a y s G e r r i c k
Kennedy, a music writer with
The Los Angeles Times. “This is
the one show that, for better or
worse, recognizes artistry over
popularity. It’s that prestige that
will never see an artist say, ‘I
don’t need a Grammy, I won
three BET Awards.’”
Adele
This year’s awards will be the
first show after The Recording
Academy’s controversial cut of
31 categories, many of which
were combined into other
awards. “Black music critics and
fans were angered because [R&B]
was taken from eight awards to
just four,” Kennedy says. Indeed,
the Best R&B Performance award
for 2012 includes nominees that
in 2011 would have been eligible
in the Best Female R&B Vocal
Performance, Best Male R&B
Vocal Performance, Best R&B
Performance by a Duo or Group
with Vocals and Best Urban/
A l t e r n a t i v e Pe r f o r m a n c e ,
respectively. “I think the biggest
drawback is that the new rules
and categories left little or no
distinction
between
contemporary and traditional
R&B,” he continues. “The [stillpresent, but slightly namedchanged] Best Traditional R&B

“What’s a nice way of saying zero
chance of winning?” Kennedy asks
regarding Rihanna’s nomination in
the Album of the Year category. “…
The odds are against Loud, which
was largely seen as a singles
album, though a successful one.
This is Adele’s to win..,” Kennedy
says, but also notes that rock band
the Foo Fighters and pop crooner
Bruno Mars may have a chance of
defeating the UK diva.
Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark
Twisted Fantasy was overlooked for
Album of the Year, so Kennedy
thinks fans within The Academy
might vote for him in the Song of
t h e Ye a r c a t e g o r y f o r t h e
previously mentioned “All the
Lights.” “The competition is
fierce, and a few of the songs [in
this category] are also competing
for Record of the Year, which could
ultimately go to Adele,” he says.
“Question is, will voters consider
the songwriting of a rap song
compared to the singer-songwriter
tracks that fill out the field?”
categories really have no
difference if you look at the
nominees in both races. So while
Beyoncé, Jill Scott, Jazmine
Sullivan and Miguel all had big
releases, nods went to quieter
ones from Kelly Price, Ledisi and
El DeBarge, all of which were
very traditional R&B discs.”
Still, each year after the show,
winners of every category tend to
see a brief bump in units sold and
a rise of their material on the
charts. “The surge in sales, like
any award show, seems to come
from the public’s desire to know,
‘What makes so-and-so special
enough to have won?’” Kennedy
says. “They see an artist that
maybe a colleague or friend had
mentioned or they read about,
but hadn’t gotten curious enough
to check them out or buy their
music. Now they’ve won this
huge award and they want to see
what the fuss is about. Or it
could be an artist that they’d
casually been a fan of and
purchased a single here and
there, but maybe loved their
performance [at the awards] so
now they want more.”
That curiosity and craving from
fans is big business for record
labels. Last year, global music
sales reached $16.2 billion, with
nearly a third ($5.2 billion)
coming from digital sales.
Kennedy notes a few artists he
thinks will help the industry earn
some more cash come Grammy
night. For starters, he predicts
Ledisi to win Best R&B
Performance for “Pieces of Me”;
Betty Wright and The Roots to
Jay-Z & Kanye West
take home the trophy for Best
Traditional R&B Performance for
“Surrender”; Cee-Lo Green and
Melanie Fiona to score a win for
“Fool for You” in the Best R&B song
category; and for R. Kelly to win
Best R&B Album for his Love Letter
disc. He also predicts a big night
for Kanye West, who has this
year’s most nominations. Kennedy
forecasts that he’ll share a Best
Rap Performance Grammy with
Jay-Z for their duet, “Otis”; get a
win for Best Rap Song with his
ensemble cast featured on “All the
Lights”; and will repeat his win for
Best Rap Album for My Beautiful
Dark Twisted Fantasy, an honor
he’s previously won for 2005’s
L a t e R e g i s t r a t i o n a n d 2 0 0 7 ’s
Graduation. Speaking of Jay-Z,
Kennedy also thinks that his wife,
Beyoncé, will grab a win for Best
Rap/Sung Collaboration with her
André 3000-assisted version of
“Party.”
The heavy-hitting categories of the
night include Album of the Year,
Song of the Year and Best New
Artist. What chance does Kennedy
foresee for some of Black music’s
top artists in those brackets?
February 9, 2011 - February 15, 2011
Nicki Minaj
Then there’s Best New Artist, an
award that has been won by stars
such as John Legend, Alicia Keys
and Lauryn Hill. 2012’s nominees
include rappers J. Cole and Nicki
Minaj, the latter of whom Kennedy
e x p e c t s t o t a k e t h e t r o p h y.
“Historically, Best New Artist has
been just that, the best new artist
to come on the scene that past
year. The Grammys love an artist
that can deliver on that promise
(look at Adele for instance, who
won in 2009). At this point people
don’t consider Nicki a new artist
because of her profile, but she
really should be the favorite to
win,” he says.

and all superior tax liens of sovereignties
and other municipalities and to all claims
of record which the County may have thereon
and subject to the provisions of the Federal
and State Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil
Relief Acts. However, such tax liens shall
have priority over the County's Differential

penalty borne at the rate at which the lien
is purchased. The Purchaser acknowledges
that the tax lien(s) sold pursuant to these
Terms of Sale may be subject to pending
bankruptcy proceedings and/or may become
subject to such proceedings which may be

lien(s) and the property securing same. Such
bankruptcy proceedings shall not affect the
validity of the tax lien. In addition to
being subject to pending bankruptcy
proceedings and/or the Federal and State

affected by the Financial Institutions
Reform, Recovery and Enforcement

bankruptcy estate. However,it is the sole
responsibility of all tax lien purchasers to
protect their legal interests in any
bankruptcy case affecting their purchased
tax lien, including but not limited to the
filing of a proof of claim on their behalf,
covering their investment in said tax lien.
The Nassau County Treasurer and Nassau
County and its agencies, assumes no
responsibility for any legal representation
of any tax lien purchaser in any legal
proceeding including but not limited to
a bankruptcy case where the purchased tax
lien is at risk.

established by his bid. Each purchaser,
immediately after the sale thereof, shall
pay to the County Treasurer ten per cent of
the amount for which the tax liens have been
sold and the remaining ninety per cent
within thirty days after such sale. If the
purchaser at the tax sale shall fail to
pay the remaining ninety per cent within ten
days after he has been notified by the

sale are ready for delivery, then all
amounts deposited with the County Treasurer
including but not limited to the ten per
cent theretofore paid by him shall, without
further notice or demand, be irrevocably
forfeited by the purchaser and shall be
retained by the County Treasurer as
liquidated damages and the agreement to
purchase shall be of no further effect.

THE NASSAU COUNTY TREASURER
MINEOLA, NEW YORK
Dated: January 13, 2012
BY THE BOOK
Author Victoria Christopher Murray Talks ‘Sinners & Saints’
and Why She Doesn’t Like to be Called a “Christian Author”
By Jazmine Rogers
I was recently given the opportunity to
chat with famed author Victoria
Christopher Murray. She is the woman
behind Temptations, Lady Jasmine,
The Ex-Files and various other popular
works of fiction.
Lady Jasmine is such a dynamic
character. Where did you find the
inspiration to birth such a
character?
Well, you know I’m not inspired in a
way where like people are inspired to
write songs or anything. I always say
that from the bottom of my heart I know
that I’ve been given a gift by God. I
know that writing is one hundred
percent a gift from him. I once heard
Michael Jackson say that every song
that he was ever going to write was
already inside of him when he was
born. God had already put it in him and
it was his job to pull it out and I said
you know that’s exactly how it is with
me. All of these stories were already
inside of me and so all I had to do was
pull it out. As far as Jasmine is
concerned it wasn’t so much the
character it was the story I wanted to
tell in Temptations. I wanted to tell a
story of a loving Christian couple who
ran into temptation. Jasmine was only
there to mess up the couple. She
wasn’t even meant to be a major
character. That was my first novel and
then people kept sending my e-mails
asking “When are you gonna bring
back Jasmine?” I’m like “I thought you
hated her” and they’re like “Yeah, we
really do. We wanna hate her some
more.” I didn’t even bring her back until
my fifth book because she wasn’t even
in my head. I’m more interested in the
stories than the characters. I think that
as a writer you have to write so that
your books are character driven but
when I first sit down my first thing is a
‘what if’ question. I start with the story
then I develop characters to tell the
story so Jasmine only came about
because she was the best person to tell
that story.
What initiated the collaboration
between you and ReShonda Tate
Billingsley?
Now, that was actually something.
We’re both with Simon & Schuster but
with different imprints and her publisher
Louise Burke once said “I think you and
Victoria should write a book together”.
So we were like “Oh, that’s a good
idea”. We had never thought about it
and you know no one had been doing
stuff like this. I had never thought about
really doing it and so it actually took us
some time to put it together because
when we first suggested it my publisher
they were like “Absolutely not. We don’t
want you doing a collaboration. Your
sales are fine by yourself. It’s not
gonna be good with someone else”. I
guess they really didn’t know how it
16
New York Trend NYC
was going to work. The thing that is so
interesting about this is that usually the
publisher’s words are the last words
because they make the decisions about
our careers, which is one of the tough
things about being with a publisher. But, I
pushed and I pushed and it took about
two years and we finally got my publisher
to agree to do it and it’s so funny that they
weren’t interested in doing it and they
didn’t want me to do it but then, it turned
into a two book deal because they
decided okay if we’re doing we’re gonna
do the first book and her publisher can do
the second book so we still laugh about
that to this day.
So I guess that answers my next
question, which was going to be “Is
this the last that we will see of Lady
Jasmine?”
I cannot see myself writing another book
about Jasmine alone. I’ve written five
books about her by myself and after Sins
of the Mother I never planned to write a
book about her again because I felt I had
taken her as far as I could take her and
what I mean by that is that she has grown
in her Christian walk and the thing that
makes her such an interesting character
is that with the things she would do she is
really getting closer to God. She like
prays to God and then she gets up off of
the floor and tries to help God out you
know because she thinks God needs
some help. I had done that enough times
that if I had kept going the storyline would
begin to become predictable so I hadn’t
planned on writing about her. To be able
to do a collaboration with ReShonda Tate
Billingsley was a gift because now I can
bring Jasmine back and she’s motivated
by this new character who is so much like
her yet so different, which makes it so
much fun. For example Jasmine is older
and Rachel is younger, Jasmine is from
the north and Rachel is from the south,
Jasmine is bougie and Rachel is purely
country. Although ReShonda and I are not
those characters we have the same
sensibility and we realized that I really am
Jasmine and she really is Rachel, which
makes it so much fun because we can
kind of act it out on the road and on
Facebook and just have a lot of fun with
it. So, you will see Jasmine again
because I have the second book with
ReShonda and we just gave a proposal
for a third book with Jasmine and Rachel.
Was there a specific message you had
in mind when writing Sinners and
Saints?
You know what’s so interesting is I think
when people read my books and get
messages out of my books they’re
absolutely sure that I must sit down and
say “Okay, this is the message I want to
come out of it” and its so not like that. I
come up with a story, then I develop
characters to tell the story and then I just
let it go because I know that my faith,
which is so important to me is going to
show up in the book. I always tell people
that no matter what I would’ve done in
my life my faith was gonna show up. If I
was a teacher people would be saying
“You know there goes that Christian
teacher.” If I was a bus driver people
would say “Hey, there goes that Christian
bus driver.” My faith is always going to be
who I am and so I never have to worry
about writing a specific message I just go
ahead and let the message show up.
What I find fascinating about that is I
think God meets the people on the page
and people are like I got this and that
from your book and I’m thinking “what
page is that on? I didn’t write that” but
what is is that people are met wherever
they are.
So that sort of lead into my other
question which was ‘Why Christian
Fiction?”
Okay, I’ve never wanted to write Christian
Fiction. Ever. I’m still like schizophrenic.
Christian Fiction, I don’t like that title. It’s
just a problem for me. I believe it has hurt
my sales and another thing that bothers
me about it is that my publisher doesn’t
call me Christian Fiction because they’re
not a Christian publisher. The bookstores
don’t call me Christian Fiction. They don’t
have me in a Christian Fiction section,
which I’m glad about. The only people
that call me a Christian writer are the
readers and then they say that my books
are not “Christian” enough because I get
a lot of criticism from readers. Often
times they’re stating that they don’t like
the sex, it doesn’t feel like real Christian,
Jasmine is not a real Christian and so it
is such a hard label to wear. There
seems to be nothing that I can do about
it. It is a label that I have been given and
no matter what I do I can’t get out of it.
So as a result I’ve lost a lot of readers or
I will get e-mails from people often who
say “People told me this was a Christian
book and I wasn’t interested in being
preached to so I didn’t want to read it and
then I read it and it was so good and I’m
going to go get your other books and so
February 9, 2011 - February 15, 2011
the label has truly, truly hurt me.” But, it is
what it is and as I said no matter what my
faith is going to show up and I put my faith
into whatever I do and so I love the label
in terms of people knowing who I am
when I walk in a room but, the other part
of it is really hard. If I could do anything to
go back and get that label away from me I
would have.
I think what I love most about your
books is that they’re safe. They’re
entertaining books that I know I can
read safely without being exposed to
overly explicit sex scenes, profanity
and just craziness that many novels
consist of.
You know what is interesting about that is
that’s who my books turned out to be for
but I never set out to write books for you. I
wanted to write books for women who
would never walk into the church. I just
wanted to show them that you don’t have
to be perfect to go to a church and that
Christians are flawed as well. I always say
we all have the same trials, tribulations
and temptations but it is how we solve our
problems that make the difference. It is said that ‘art reflects life’. Would
you say that Jasmine and Rachel’s
conniving antics are a reflection of
today’s church or was it purely for
entertainment?
It’s purely entertainment. I don’t think
there is any way that people can write
books or movies or songs without life
getting into it. You have to pull on
something so our books are not indicative
of the church, meaning every single
church in America but are there first ladies
like Jasmine and Rachel? Sure. Are there
conventions like the one we wrote about?
Sure. I’ve never been to one but
ReShonda used to be a reporter and has
reported on some of those and according
to the e-mails that we have been getting
people are saying that we’ve been hitting
it dead on and there are a lot of politics in
religion.
What do you hope for readers to walk
away with after reading Sinners &
Saints?
I want them to walk away with great
entertainment. Really, I am not trying to be
a minister. I leave that part up to God so I
hope they walk away with great
entertainment and if a seed needed to be
planted I hope that I planted it and
someone comes along and waters it and
God does the rest. I’m not that deep.

“I wouldn’t be doing Zora if it
weren’t for Woodie King, Jr., and
Elizabeth Van Dkye.
Initially
Elizabeth was portraying Zora with
Joseph Edwards. The show was top
shelf. I caught her show and was
very impressed. A year later, Woodie
called me to say Elizabeth could not
do the show in Bethlehem, PA and
asked whether I could I go on in her
place. I did not have to do anything
but say ‘yes.’ And I did. Elizabeth
was generous and gave me the
blocking. Woodie gave me the script
and I had 6 weeks to get ready for it.
I had some pretty big shoes to fill. I
started playing the role whenever
Elizabeth could not do a
performance,” said Kim Brockington.
“I have always been interested in the
life of Zora Neale Hurston. Born in
Notasulga, Alabama in 1891, Zora
was the fifth of eight children. Zora
was a fun loving, outrageous,
bodacious individual who was all
about getting her art out to the world.
She became the literary queen of the
17 New York Trend NYC
Harlem Renaissance.
“Her Eyes
Were Watching God was one of her
most famous books,” stated Kim
who loves portraying the role.
Ms. Brockington portrayed Zora in a
PBS documentary.
“I talk about
Zora’s childhood in the PBS
version,” remarked the talented
performer.
“Zora’s mother died
when Zora was young and it changed
Zora’s whole world.
Her father
married very soon afterward. Zora’s
father was a ladies man and always a
bit scandalous. His new wife did not
like Zora, so Zora was sent her off to
school.
Eventually, her father
stopped paying for school and she
was kicked out. She got a job in a
traveling theatrical show as a maid.
Zora always loved storytelling, thus
it’s no surprise she became a writer.
She returned to school attending
Morgan where she finished high
school. By the time she got to
Howard University, she was writing.
She was 28. She went on to Barnard
where she majored in anthropology."
Ahead of her time, Zora was a poet,
writer and anthropologist, who won
several awards and contests.
Eventually she won a Guggenheim
Fellowship allowing her to travel to
Jamaica and Haiti, where she studied
African voodoo rituals.
Hurston
continued her research in America’s
southland where she collected and
wrote about African American folklore.
During the Harlem Renaissance era, a
lot of the artists had patrons who
sponsored their work. Charlotte Mason
was Zora’s patron. Ms. Mason was an
influential woman who gave Zora
money for clothes, books and lodging.
Langston Hughes also had a patron but
criticized Zora for allowing her
patronage to go on too long. Charlotte
Mason, who insisted Zora called her
“Godmother,” was very controlling and
wanted to control Zora’s art, forcing
Zora to acquiesce to Charlotte
demands.
Zora felt smothered,
frustrated and angry under
Godmother’s control. Finally, she got
away from Godmother after publishing
Jonah’s Gourd Vine in 1934. "Moses,
Man of the Mountain" was published in
1939. Ms. Hurston’s periodicals were
published in The Saturday Evening
Post, and American Mercury. She
c o n t r i b u t e d t o " Wo m a n i n t h e
Suwannee County Jail," a book written
by journalist William Bradford Hule.
As a folklorist, Hurston oftentimes
wrote in the dialect of her subject
matter, utilizing speech patterns of the
period she documented. “Mules and
Men,” was another of her works.
February 9, 2011 - February 15, 2011
Zora studied voodoo in
New Orleans and became
a voodoo priestess. She
established a school of
dramatic arts at Bethune
College.
Then while
Zora was in Honduras
she was falsely accused
of child molestation in
the United States. This
took a toll on Zora. Even
though she was able to
prove her innocence the
damage had been done.
Accusations, primarily
detailed in the black
press, ruined her life. It
became difficult for Zora
to find work or get her
work published.
She
took work where she
could find it and
freelanced for magazines.
Broke, tired and
disappointed, Zora went
home to Alabama where
she found work as a
maid. She died, buried in
an unmarked grave.
Alice Walker resurrected
Hurston’s
work
posthumously.
Kim Brockington was born in Baltimore,
Maryland. An only child, Kim started
performing at 5 years old. Acting and
singing has always been in her blood.
She went to Morgan State for a year and
transferred to the American Academy of
Dramatic Arts. She has been acting ever
since.
She will be performing her one-woman
show on Zora at Georgia State
University in Atlanta on March 12th for
Women’s Month; in May, she is slated to
perform Zora in Baltimore and perhaps
another performance in New Jersey in
June. Her other credits include an

Performance for Archbishop Supreme
Tartuffe in 2009. She performed Darlene
in “In Walks Ed.” She was nominated
for another Audelco Award for “Coming
Apart Together.” In TV and Film, Kim
appeared in the Spike Lee pilot “Da
Brick.” She has appeared in soaps “The
Guiding Light,” “One Life to Live,” and
“All My Children.” Ms. Brockington
guest starred in West Wing, Third Watch,
Law and Order Criminal Intent and in
films “Rock the Paint,” "School of
Rock,” “Love Songs,” and “Dirty
Laundry.”

TRAVEL TREND
A Winter Getaway In The City of Brotherly Love
By Jim Weaver
Although I lived in
Philadelphia for more than
half my life, I moved away
a few years ago to a
retirement community.
Fortunately, I’m still close
enough that several times
a year my wife Barbara
and I get back to visit.
Coming back to the city
now as a “tourist” has
become a delightful
experience.
On a recent trip, we visited
the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts
(America’s first art school
founded in 1805) for the
opening of a spectacular
new exhibit “Henry
Ossawa Tanner: Modern
Spirit” which runs here
through April 15th before
traveling to Cincinnati and
Houston.
Ta n n e r
was
a
Pennsylvania Academy
graduate
(1865) and the first African
American to receive
international acclaim as an
artist. However, because
of racial bigotry in
America he was forced
to move to Paris to
pursue his career
abroad.
The exhibit features over
100 Tanner works, some
of which have never
been shown in the
18
New York Trend NYC
United States. One of my
favorite paintings
is
“The
Banjo
Lesson” (1896) which
depicts an old black man
teaching his grandson to
play the banjo. From the
Hampton University Art
Museum collection, it is one
of the first painting
by any artist to show African
Americans in other than a
serving role.
Outside the Academy on the
new Lenfest Plaza
there is a fascinating new
sculpture by American artist
Claes Oldenburg. The 18
foot tall “Paint Torch” with
orange paint blob at its base
depicts
a giant upright paintbrush
which become a lighted
torch at night. Oldenburg’s
famous “Clothespin”
sculpture is located near
Philadelphia City Hall.
At the Philadelphia Museum
of Art currently is an exhibit
featuring of works Vincent
Van Gogh.
Titled “Van Gogh: Up Close”
it will run
through May 5th.
Nearby on the Benjamin
Franklin Parkway the new
Barnes Museum is set to
open on May 19th. It will
feature the Dr. Albert C.
Barnes Collection including
masterworks of the world’s
great Impressionist and
Postimpressionist artists.
After a delicious lunch at the
Pennsylvania Academy’s
cafe (in the school’s
architectural treasure, the
Frank Furness Building), we
went shopping at the old
John Wannamaker ’s.
Although its now a Macy’s, it
stills retains much of the
charm of years gone by
when it was the city’s leading
department store. The large
bronze sculpture of the eagle
is still located at the center of
the first floor grand court.
“Meet me at the Eagle” was
once a phrase every
Philadelphian knew.
Looking upwards from there
you encounter the world’s
largest (confirmed on the
web) pipe organ. The
Wannamaker Organ is still
played twice a day, Monday
through Saturday, more often
at the Christmas season, and
for special concerts.
Christmas brings an amazing
light show in the space in
front of the organ pipes. Go
to YouTube online and
search Philadelphia Opera
Company’s “Hallelujah”
Random Act of Culture (held
in the Wannamaker Grand
Court).
Several decades ago I
attended a national
convention held at the
Warwick Hotel
(now the Raddison Warwick)
just off Philadelphia’s upscale
Rittenhouse Square.
It was a pleasure to return
here and to see how
its been improved without
losing its beauty and charm.
Because it is a historic
property, much
has remained as I recalled it,
but much is also new and
February 9, 2011 - February 15, 2011
most attractive.
It was
wonderful to have valet
parking at the front entrance
and a fabulous breakfast at
Tavern 17 (for 17th Street). I
loved the Egyptian cotton
sheets and 42 inch HD/TV
and the service was both
timely and courteous. Learn

After a delicious dinner at a
nearby restaurant (there are
about 60 restaurants within
easy walking distance of the
Warwick), we caught a cab to
the Kimmel Center’s Verizon
Hall for a concert by the
highly esteemed Philadelphia
Orchestra. Artistic Director
Designate Yannak
Nezet-Seguin conducted a
program of Bach’s
Brandenberg Concerto #5
and Mahler’s Fifth
Symphony. It was a thrilling
performance in all respects
by one of the world’s leading
orchestras.
I can hardly wait for Spring
and the Philadelphia Flower
Show, the Philadelphia
Antiques Show, and the
opening of the new Barnes
Museum.

Super Bowl Giants
For the second time in four
years the New York Giants
have defeated the New
England Patriots to become
the champions of the NFL.
Sunday's Super Bowl game,
held in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil
Stadium, ended with the
Giants winning by a score of
21 to 17. Giants running back
Ahmad Bradshaw scored on a
6 yard touchdown run with 57
seconds left to cap off the
Giants game winning drive.
The scoring began early as
Tom Brady was penalized for
an intentional grounding in end
zone with his first pass of the
game, resulting in a safety,
giving the Giants a 2-0 lead.
After an Eli Manning
touchdown pass to Pro Bowl
wide receiver Victor Cruz, New
York jumped out to a quick 9-0
lead. Following a field goal and
a Tom Brady touchdown pass
to running back Danny
Woodhead, the Patriots took a
10-9 lead going into the half.
With 11:20 left in the third
quarter, the Patriots continued
their scoring run with another
Brady touchdown pass, this
time to tight end Aaron
Hernandez for 12 yards,
increasing their lead to 17-9.
After two New York field goals
by Lawrence Tynes in the third
quarter, the Giants slowly
fought themselves back into
the game, cutting the deficit to
17-15.
After trading punts the entire
fourth quarter, Eli Manning and
the Giants got the ball at their
own 12 yard line with a little
less than four minutes left.
Manning, who lead New York
to 7 fourth quarter comebacks
this season, including an
overtime drive to defeat San
Francisco in the NFC
Championship game, looked
Former Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham made this 38-yard, over-the-shoulder catch
during the New York Giants' game-winning drive in the Super Bowl.
to engineer yet another winning
drive.
Reminiscent of their game
winning drive in the 2008 Super
Bowl against the Patriots,
Manning was able to lead the
Giants to a touchdown.
The most notable play of the
drive, and of the entire game,
was Manning's 38-yard pass to
Mario Manningham.
In what has been called one of
the best catches in Super Bowl
history, Manningham's catch
had all the components of a
spectacular play. Manning, who
was under pressure, scrambled
to the right before making the
long throw across the field,
completing the ball to
Manningham on the left side
line.
Manningham, who was being
covered by two New England
defensive backs, caught the ball
looking over his right shoulder
while falling out of bounds.
After taking a big hit from one of
the Patriot defenders,
Manningham was able to get
both feet down and affect a New
England challenge, the call was
confirmed.
After four more completed
passes from Eli Manning, the
Giants had a 2nd and goal from
the New England 6. With 53
seconds left, the Patriots eased
up, allowing Ahmad Bradshaw
to score the inevitable
touchdown with the intentions of
giving quarterback, Tom Brady,
as much time as possible to
attempt to score a miracle
touchdown.
Bradshaw's touchdown gave the
Giants a 21-17 advantage and a
failed two point conversion
preserved the score as the
Patriots got the ball for their final
possession.
Following a touchback kickoff
from Lawrence Tynes, Tom
Brady faced a 4th and 16 from
their own 14 after both Aaron
Hernandez and Deion Branch
both dropped easy completions
and New York's Justin Tuck
sacked Brady for a 6 yard loss.
The Patriots were able to stay
alive with a first down catch from
Branch but nothing came to
fruition as with five seconds
remaining, Brady flung a Hail
Mary pass into the end zone
that was eventually batted
down, ending the game.
Manning winning his second
Super Bowl MVP, finished the
game completing 30 of 40
passes for 296 yards and one
touchdown.
Other notable Giants
performances came from
Ahmad Bradshaw, with 17
rushes for 72 yards and a
touchdown, and receiver
Hakeem Nicks with 10 catches
for 109 yards.
For New England, Tom Brady
finished with 27 completions on
41 passes with 276 yards, 2
touchdowns, and 1 interception.
No Patriots running back rushed
for over 45 yards but both
Hernandez and Wes Welker
finished with at least 60 yards
receiving.
Unlike their Super Bowl victory
over the previously undefeated
Patriots in the 2007-2008
season, the Giants were seen
as equal to New England
coming into the game and were
undoubtedly the better team on
Sunday.
This was the Giants fourth
Super Bowl victory.
