Year 7 Mentors
This term we have been involved in a footy clinic with
junior primary students. They
were, Levi, Jake, Seb and
Quinny. We have been helping
them with their skills in marking, hand-passing and kicking.
On Wednesday the 5th of
July the children from
Rooms 10 and 12 completed an inquiry unit on the
brain by dissecting a sheep’s
brain. We had many parents
come and join us for this
part of our learning. Ms.
Our mentor Ms. Rose had a
ball and she also learnt some
basic footy skills. We hope to
have another clinic soon.
Tyrese, Dale & Louis
Brains!
Molloy guided us through the
process of dissecting the brain
into the parts we had been
studying. Children who did not
wish to participate made a model of the brain from plasticene.
When I was cutting the brain it
was gross!

It was so much fun cutting up the sheep's brain
we saw all the Myelin in
the brain.

Mini Paws walk
Well that’s a wrap! The Mini
Paws Walk season has now
come to an end and it was a
big success. Thank you to all
the teachers, students, parents and the Children’s
University for being involved.
With the help from you and
all the other Mini Paws Walk
schools an amazing $3,128
was raised, which is
PAWsome! This is enough
money to help desex 15
kittens waiting adoption,
and heat 15 kennels during
the cold winter months.
The 2,000ish students who
were engaged with the program have truly made a big
difference to the animals’
lives at the shelter.
On behalf of all creatures
great and small thank you for
all your hard work, we hope
you have enjoyed the
experience and will join us
again
next
year.
Kind Regards
The Mini Paws Walk Team

Our class had a visit from a
representative of a bank.
Her name was Emily. She
came to talk to us about
earning and saving money
as well as the best place to
save it to keep it save and
harder to spend. We had
done some work on what
an
income is with Ms
Sweet’s class and found
lots of ways that we can
earn money now.
The motto is See it, Earn it
and Save it.

Children’s University
In Children’s University we
have been doing a puppet
play for the young kids. It
was about a town called
Hopetopea where four people have given up hope and
a princess and a clown
need to save it by giving
them jobs. It’s all about giving people hope. The progress of making the puppets was the fun bit. We
had to choose a spoon or a
fork to make our puppets.
The materials we used to
make them were string,
some other craft stuff and
some fabric. You can make
your own but it took us all
term 2 to make it. The journey along the way was fun.
Anyone from 3 to 5 years can
do it. Thank you for listening
and remember
NEVER GIVE UP HOPE.

own, some were progressive and we also did choreography.
We had a teacher named
Jenna, she taught us progressive dancing and it was
a little awkward at first but
During this term on Friday
mornings at 9.30 there was
a group of us that went to
Footsteps. Some of the
dances were done on our
we got used to it. We also
did solo dancing and our
song that we danced to
was Thriller by Michael
Jackson.
Superstitchers & Kimochis
‘Kimochi’ is the Japanese
word for ‘feelings’.
The Kimochi Program is
aimed at equipping students
with an emotional language.
Soft toys are used to tell
stories and encourage
students to share their feelings – this has been found
to help with school learning
and behaviour issues.
Chris Brown has been using
the Kimochi characters in
drama classes and I often
use them when having pastoral conversations with a
student. They are an incredibly useful tool.
But we have a limited supply
of the smaller Kimochis, so I
asked the ladies from the
Salisbury Lutheran Church
to help out. They run a
Children’s University group,
Super Stitchers, and this
seemed an ideal project for
them and the children to be
involved in.
Each child
picked an emotion to make
and the ladies helped make
even more. We ended up
with two complete sets and
these will be used in an
ongoing way in the school.
If you want to find out more
about Kimochis and how
you can help your child develop an emotional language then please feel free
to contact me.
A huge thanks to the ladies
and students of the Super
Stitchers group!

Learning Together
At Playgroup this week we had ‘BUGS N SLUGS’ out
to visit us. The children enjoyed a hands on session
getting close to a number of different invertebrates
(animals without backbones)- beetles, spiders,
leaf insects, larvae, slugs and a giant cockroach.
We also watched a snail race and saw one of the
largest worms ever!
