The Team
The key to the success of the River
House has been the motivated and
highly skilled Hudson Harbor team
whose expertise spans multiple
disciplines. Construction specialists, inhouse engineers, skilled artisans, project
managers, and sales staff worked
together daily to make the project a
reality.
The Vision
Bringing The River House unique concept to life was the Hudson Harbor team including (from left) Steve Antonucci
(lead contractor), Sean Flynn (head of construction), Steve Antonucci Jr. (construction), Alicia Goldman (sales), Fred
Brkic (project coordinator), Kendall Cappiello (sales), and John Meyer (engineering).
About The River House
THE RIVER HOUSE AT HUDSON HARBOR IS THE
latest venture of the National Resources development
firm and the newest section of Hudson Harbor—
Tarrytown’s unique waterfront community set on the
river’s edge.
“The River House is situated on one of the most naturally beautiful coves
on the Hudson River creating spectacular views,” says Developer Joe
Cotter of National Resources. “The River House is the next generation
in resort lifestyle living, which reflects the way we live today.”
Charged with defining the look
and feel of the River House, from the
interior spaces to the outdoor common
spaces was New York City-based
Interior Designer Alan Tanksley, who
brought his extensive experience in
collaborating with architects to the River
House project. From color palettes to
architectural details, Tanksley envisioned
inspired spaces that were calm,
contemporary, and comfortable.
“Essentially, my role on River House
is to fine-tune the look and feel of all
interior spaces,” Tanksley explains. “This
applies to all materials, finishes and
fixtures throughout the condominiums,
as well as the common spaces
throughout the complex.”
Featured details include wide-board
white-oak flooring with a lighter,
washed finish to enhance the open
flow; 8-foot paneled doors to highlight
the open, loft-like look and feel; and
brushed chrome lever door handles with
an easier grip than a traditional knob.
The Result
The sleek and sophisticated one- and
two-bedroom condominiums range
from $550,000 to $1.5 million. In
addition to their smart designs, the units
also incorporate smart-home features in
partnership with Elite Design Systems:
 Perfectly balanced surround
sound.
 Motorized shades and drapes
for instant privacy at the push of a
button.
 Innovative smart lighting with
Lutron keypad control.

I
IMAGINING A CLIENT WHO FINDS HIMSELF
suddenly single, Interior Designer Lisa McTernan, of
Lifestyles and Interiors by Lisa, made it her mission to
create a space where he could feel comfortable and
would enjoy coming home. McTernan appreciated his
affection for Tarrytown (he thinks it’s the perfect spot
to live) and the appeal of its proximity to the Hudson
River, where he kayaks and frequently gathers nature’s
treasures to add to his décor.
He works locally, often putting in long hours, but
looks forward to his frequent trips into the city making
the River House location within walking distance of the
train ideal. Environmentally conscious, McTernan’s client
was drawn to the sustainable living and healthy lifestyle
of the River House’s design.
A man of many interests, he also happens to be
a partner in a hip local restaurant, where, as the
restaurant’s mixologist, he finds developing drinks for
the bar more fun than work. Blurring the lines, he loves
entertaining and relaxing with friends (many of whom
produce local spirits) on the patio, even mixing a few
new concoctions for them to try. As a result, McTernan
felt it was only natural to build into his office a classy
customized private bar.
Not one to sit by the sidelines, though, he worked
with a designer in creating the space he would now call
“home.” Like his restaurant, he played an active role in
bringing the design concept to life.

 HERS
I
INTERIOR DESIGNER SUSAN
Anthony, of Susan Anthony Interiors,
designed a one-bedroom unit with
fictional client, Chelsea Jane Morgan (or
CJ), in mind. CJ recently turned 30 and
just landed her dream job as director
of marketing for the new Christian
Louboutin make-up line.
Before considering a move to a
more sophisticated condo, CJ shared a
cramped two-bedroom apartment with
three girlfriends in New York City. As her
friends began to change their lives—
getting married and moving out—the
small, dark apartment began to lose
its appeal. After attending a friend’s
wedding in Sleepy Hollow and setting
eyes on The River House, CJ began to
envision a fresh start—a new direction,
and the lure of space of her own with
river views, plenty of closet space, and
her own laundry. The timing was perfect.
Responding to CJ’s needs, Anthony
created a special place that’s just as
warm, witty, and fun as CJ herself.
Making selections from galleries to flea
markets, Anthony’s design took shape.
Fun elements included tomato-red
letters from the ‘50s that fittingly spelled
HERS and a white leather sofa that
reminded CJ of having cocktails in her
grandfather’s library. Touches of gold leaf
and crystal were paired with “floating”
PlexiGlass tables.
CJ’s investment in two modern
paintings by award-winning artist Sonia
Grineva informed the color palette. A
flea market desk was matched to the
doors with a graphite color painted
along the base. The bedroom was
painted a light aqua complemented by
a darker shade on the ceiling. Benjamin
Moore’s “Flawless” color was chosen
for the bathroom walls to match CJ’s
makeup and the main room was painted
a taupe, aptly named “Cosmopolitan.”
By the time CJ finally moved into her
new place, the only vestiges she brought
from her former life were her shoes, her
clothes, and of course, her makeup.

A
 THEIRS
A COUPLE—EMPTY NESTERS—
inspired the design of Alan Tanksley,
whose firm—Alan Tanksley, Inc.—
specializes in residential interior design
and decoration. After much thought
and discussion, the couple had decided
to streamline their lives and edit their
belongings with an eye toward living
efficiently, but also stylishly within this
corner unit facing the Hudson River
and the New York skyline beyond. The
couple’s new lifestyle also includes
dual residences—spending the winter
months in their primary warm-weather
residence. Aware of the growing
popularity of people living and working
out of the same spaces, Tanksley created
a fashionably functional home office and
study in the second bedroom. But from
Tanksley’s perspective, a home office
doesn’t necessarily need to be treated as
a secondary space. For those who spend
much of their day working at home,
there’s no reason not to give the office
one of the very best locations within
the home.

 OURS
I
INTERIOR DESIGNER BARBARA BELL,
of Barbara Bell Interiors, knew exactly
who would occupy this two-bedroom,
two-bath condominium with spectacular
views of the Tappan Zee Bridge and the
Hudson River. She envisioned a mature
couple whose primary residence is in
Florida, but who desired a second,
smaller, and easily maintained home in
Westchester for the spring and summer
seasons and for visits with nearby family
and friends.
The husband recently retired from
his position as a top executive for an
international company. Among his musthaves: a marina for his boat and a small
home office for conducting business and

financial work. His wife, an artist and
former teacher, makes constant use of
the large, open kitchen and family
room for entertaining, as well as
cooking and experimenting with exotic
cuisines. The baskets, Buddhas, castiron cookware, and Italian ceramics
incorporated into the design reflect her
varied and eclectic taste.
Sophisticated and well traveled,
together they’re constantly on the go,
enjoying engaging leisure activities and
interests. It was important to have well
designed, but child-friendly, comfortable
seating in the main living space and the
ability to display the art and artifacts
collected from their extensive adventures.
Knowing they also enjoy spending
time with family and friends, Bell
outfitted the second bedroom with a
waterfall desk, shelving, and a daybed/
sofa for doing double duty as an office
and guest bedroom for grandchildren
and visiting friends. In addition to an
indoor dining table and chairs and
kitchen island stools for everyday,
casual dining, a large wrap-around
terrace offers both dining and seating
for al fresco entertaining and relaxing.
Bell delivered on her goal for the
couple—a light-filled, colorful yet
serene environment for a well-earned
second act.
