Celebrating the unveiling of the wall display depicting the history of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant at the U.S. Department of Energy headquarters in DC are (from left): U.S. Rep. Ed
Whitfield; U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell; Secretary of Energy Ernie Moniz; Paducah Mayor Gayle Kaler; Clyde Elrod, who was recognized with Ballard County and his history
with the site; McCracken County Judge Executive Bob Leeper; and Dr. Len Peters, Kentucky’s
Secretary of Energy and Environment.
DC Wall Display Unveiled
During Chamber Fly-In
On September 9 and 10 the Paducah Chamber coordinated the annual community leaders’
trip to Washington D.C. to meet with our area’s
elected officials, their staffs and representatives of several Federal agencies. The presenting sponsor for the trip was Swift & Staley and
there were 19 other companies and organizations who participated as sponsors. The community was represented by approximately 30
local citizens, including McCracken County
Judge Executive Bob Leeper and Paducah Mayor Gayle Kaler.
One of the highlights of this year’s trip was the
unveiling of the permanent wall display featuring the history of the Paducah DOE site inside
the Department of Energy’s Forrestal Building
in D.C. The invitation to have the display was
made to the community last spring when DOE
Deputy Under Secretary for Management and
Performance David Klaus was in Paducah. The
Chamber has been working with DOE on the design, development, production and installation.
Fluor Federal Services sponsored the design and
development of the panels.
Additionally during the two-day Fly-In, the
local group met with officials from the Department of Transportation, Americans for the
Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, Energy
Communities Alliance, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, other members of KY’s Congressional
delegation including Senator Rand Paul and
Congressmen John Yarmuth, Andy Barr, and
Brett Guthrie and staff from Congressman Hal
Rogers and Tom Massie, and Jerry Abramson,
Deputy Assistant to the President. Josh Wyner,
Vice President and Executive Director of the
Aspen Institute College of Excellence Program,
was a keynote speaker at a luncheon event.
Thank you to our sponsors: Cabinet: Fluor;
Congressional: Ballard County Economic & Industrial Development Board; Beltline Electric
Co.; and PACRO; Senate: Bacon Farmer Workman; BWXT; CSI; Ingram; James Marine; Jim
Smith Contracting; Lourdes; Marquette Transportation; Murray State; Paducah Economic
