Bollywood Ball brochure
I am delighted that you have been able to join us this evening, to show your support for
St Oswald’s Hospice and to the enjoy the event which promises to be full of show-stopping
moments from the golden age of film.
Amongst the glitz and glamour of tonight’s entertainment, you’ll
get the chance to hear directly from those we care for and what an
enormous difference your support makes to their lives. You’ll find
out just how much we rely on your donations, to be able to support
local families when they need us most. Tonight is extra special, as it marks the launch of our Major
Investors Programme. Our prospectus highlights the difference
investing in St Oswald’s Hospice and its future will make sure we
continue to develop services that people really need when illness
can no longer be cured, and ensuring we reach as many people,
children and adults across the North East as we can. We need to raise over £6.5 million every year through our local
community and corporate supporters to keep St Oswald’s going. On behalf of all the patients and families we care for, thank you
so much.
Huge thanks go to our event sponsors and long term supporters
UBS and GVA, our Ball committee, Lorne Campbell Artistic
Director of Northern Stage and Hayley Conway Director of
Newcastle Dance Centre. Without them, tonight wouldn’t have
been possible.
I hope you have a fantastic evening.

UBS is delighted to sponsor the St Oswald’s Hospice Red Carpet Ball 2014 and proud of
the long relationship we have with the Hospice. UBS has been involved with St Oswald’s
Hospice for over 15 years and is honoured to have in this time been part of achievements
such as raising the funds for the opening of their Children’s Unit in 2003.
For UBS, St Oswald’s Hospice and the Ball Committee are a
pleasure to be associated with. Their professionalism, diligence and
creative talent have crafted this wonderful event you are about to
enjoy – one of the best, most thoroughly well organised events I
have had the delight to be involved with.
UBS is committed to charities and the North East and we are all
here this evening for the same reason – to make a difference and
support St Oswald’s Hospice achieve its mission and goals.
I would like to thank St Oswald’s
Hospice for asking UBS to again
sponsor their Red Carpet Ball for a
second year and wish everyone an
unforgettable evening.

PAY FOR A SESSION OF SPECIALIST ANXIETY
MANAGEMENT - £500
Support our ‘Celebrate Life’ project- £1000 per
month or £12,000 for the year
Acute anxiety can cause our patients and their families to suffer
distress adding to the trauma that living with a life-limiting illness
brings.
Can you give our patients the opportunity to discover new skills,
express themselves, be creative, and find new ways to enrich
their lives?
At St Oswald’s we want to make every person feel special and do
everything we can to ensure the best quality of life for our patients
for as long as they are with us.
By supporting the Celebrate Life project you will be touching the
lives of many patients at St Oswald’s by providing the resources
and materials needed to run this amazing project.
Our Occupational Therapist, Lisa Cairns, spent years training in
hypnotherapy after discovering the potential benefits for patients
with particularly difficult symptoms.
You will be enabling patients to find a better quality of life by
funding the project which enables them to take part in creative
writing, music therapy, horticulture, reminiscence, digital media
and mindfulness.
Lisa’s unique combination of skills has proved effective in helping
obese patients regain the mobility and self confidence they need to
leave their home to transfer to the Hospice for treatment. Her work
helping patients with Motor Neurone Disease to control distressing
symptoms (particularly drooling) has attracted worldwide attention.
And now Lisa is using her skills to support patients whose condition
or treatment is causing them particular anxiety.
By paying for even one session, you can help us to improve the
lives of our patients and their families.
The project is allowing us to build on the activities we already
provide to enable our patients to explore the emotional and
physical impact of their diagnosis in creative and therapeutic
ways.
By donating, you are helping us to continue to run the
‘Celebrate Life’ project and ensure that patients are able to
express themselves and talk more openly about their lives and
experiences.
We not only deliver exceptional care to 1,908 patients
(2012 – 13 figures) we campaign with local and national health
authorities and lead the way in educating clinicians and people
right across the UK about our services.

Why your wealth manager should
never stop managing your portfolio.
The issue with investment opportunities is that they rarely stay opportunities for long.
Too often one blinks, and they’ve gone.
Which is why we at UBS believe in proactively managing your portfolio.
It means your client advisor will seek out new investment opportunities,
based on the latest market developments.
And regularly review your portfolio, balancing and optimizing it, according to your risk profile.
But one thing remains constant throughout all of this.
Our commitment to meeting your financial goals.
And that’s something we’ll never stop doing.
