Mindfulness Series
We are in the process of setting a date for a visit in
July or August to Castle Peak, the newly constructed
Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Eagle,
Colorado. The date is not set, but I would be
interested in the number of Seniors that would like to
join us for the visit. Please sign up in the Senior
Center office with your name, e-mail address, and
phone number.
Contact person: Andy Searls, 970-668-0625
Dr. Kim Bundy-Fazioli will be facilitating a free 3-week
mindfulness series on Wednesdays July 13, July 20,
and August 3 at the Senior Center to interested senior
members. The series is from 12pm-1:30pm. Kim is
the director of Mindfulness Matters Institute, LLC
located in Breckenridge. She is certified to teach the
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
program through the University of San Diego, Center
for Mindfulness, School of Medicine. She has
received extensive training in mindfulness and runs
the 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
program in Summit County. Kim will help participants
understand what mindfulness is and how it can
enhance their day-to-day living. The research on
mindfulness practice has shown that we can begin to
re-route our neuro-pathways that often reinforce
symptoms related to stress, anxiety, and depression.
Mindfulness is a practice focused on training our
attention; not unlike, physical training one does in
sports. If you find that you would like to experience
more balance, peace, and calm in your daily living
consider registering for this course. For more information about the instructor go to
www.mindfulnessmattersinstitute.com.
If you would like to register for this series or learn
more about this series call Kim at 970-302-1796 or
send her an email at
[email protected].
Credit Cards
Effective July 1 you can pay for Summit County
Senior Citizen membership, activities etc. at the front

Summer Postural Fitness
Based on the Egoscue Method®
The Egoscue Method® is a widely acclaimed postural
therapy program designed to restore full, natural
function to muscles and joints. Exercises are designed
to optimize the function of the various muscle groups
acting on the skeleton so that they perform the job
they were designed to do. The program works to
straighten, then strengthen the body so that it
responds to demands with minimal stress, resulting in
improved performance and reduced strains, injuries
and pain. Join instructor Kathy Feeney for Summer
Postural Fitness, meeting on Tuesdays, 4:30-6:00pm.
Class sessions include a series of stretches and
gentle exercises designed to help your body be the
strongest and most flexible it can be and to function
the way nature intended. Regardless of previous
conditions or injuries, encouraging your body back
into correct alignment will assist it in naturally healing
itself.
Hiking Preparedness & Safety:
Join Bonnie Guthrie on Thursday, July 14, 4:00pm,
in the Fremont Room to hear and see what the
Colorado Mountain Club and Summit Rescue Group
recommend for our hiking safety and enjoyment. All
levels of hikers welcome! Bonnie will have handouts,
so it will be helpful to her if you'd sign up in the
Activities Book in the senior center office (nice but not
required).

Friend of the Seniors
Summit County is happy to introduce Maggie Cox as
our Senior of the Year 2016. Maggie and her husband,
Jim, moved to the county from Centennial, Colorado, in
2003 and she immediately started volunteering all over the
county. She helped out at the Community Care Clinic for
several years and she now volunteers at the Keystone
Clinic during the ski season. St. Anthony Summit finds her
at the Information Desk, shot clinics and other special programs. Through the years if there is a request for help at
special events, she always seems to be present. Her latest
interest is Town of Frisco events of which there are many
throughout the year. She spends countless hours at the
Library doing whatever is needed. She loves animals, too,
and donates many hours to the Animal Shelter plus caring
for two cats at home. Maggie also is a member of the Fire
Corps, a support group for the Fire Department and does
paper work for the department. She helps out at the Senior
Rummage Sale, Meals on Wheels and Medical Transportation. Someone asked Maggie if she ever was home and
she answered, “Enough”. Believe it or not she still finds
time to do the usual mountain resort activities; skiing, snow
shoeing, biking and hiking.
Congratulations to Maggie Cox , Summit County’s
Senior of the Year 2016, and thank you for many jobs
well done!
Senior of the Year
Summit County is happy to introduce the 2016 Friend of the
Seniors award as Scott Vargo. Vargo has served as a
member of Summit County staff since 1999 was recently
named County Manger. He began his career with Summit
County as the director of Human Resources. Then in 2004
he was promoted to Assistant County
Manager, overseeing many County departments including
Public Health, Human Services, the 911 Center, Library
and Ambulance Service, among others. “Scott is widely
respected throughout our community and across the state,”
Commissioner Karn Stiegelmeier said. “He excels at building and maintaining the relationships that are so essential
to the work we do here at Summit County government.”Vargo is present at meetings of the seniors and listens intently to the needs being discussed. He is a fantastic
advocate for our senior population.
Congratulations to Scott Vargo, Summit County’s
Friend of the Seniors 2016. Thank you for all you do,
we so greatly appreciate you!
