Letter from the Directors
Dear Zootown Fringe Festival Fans,
Welcome to the 3rd Annual Zootown
Fringe Festival, Montana’s only live
performance organization that is
structured to unify all performing
artists as a cohesive community. Our
mission is to support and celebrate
performance art in our community
and to showcase Missoula as a place
to perform. We are honored to
present this year’s fabulous line-up of
entertainment and workshops.
A heartfelt thanks to the visiting
artists, the lovely local talent, our
volunteers, venue staff and to our
generous sponsors who have helped
to create this year’s Fringe! We’d also
like to thank this year’s audiences. We
couldn’t do it without all of you.

Dragon Parfait · Family Friendly
Coming off of their successful July
residency at the VFW, Dragon Parfait
switch gears from progressive surf
rock to live improvisational score.
Last Fringe Festival, the members
of Dragon Parfait (along with
acolytes Justine Flynn and Jay Bruns) improvised a live score to the first full-length
animated film, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, by Lotte Reininger, at the Brink
Gallery. This film had been made using paper cutouts with stop motion, and tells
a story from 1001 Arabian Nights. Parfait utilized the standard rock trio of bass,
guitar and drums to tell this story, with highlights from an old electric organ
we found sitting on the side of the road, an orchestral harp, voice, French horn,
cornet, hand percussion, and weird feedback-y noise.
This year features another special movie with live musical accompaniment. For
philosophical and alchemical reasons, we dare not reveal the identity of the work
or the performers before the event. Come witness a bit of shared history with us.
Dragon Parfait is mightily interested in the
cultural artifacts that are forged out of the
fire of shared history.

ART: A play by Yasmina Reza
Missoula Art Museum
Wed, Aug 19th 6:30-8pm * $12
What does ‘art’ mean to you? In this
Tony Award-winning play by Yasmina
Reza, the true value of fine art and
friendship violently collide when the
long-time relationship of three friends
is tested by a simple act: the purchase
of an expensive, all-white painting.
Questions of aesthetics, extravagance
and trendiness abound as close friends attempt to navigate that most fragile of
emotions-personal taste.
Performed by Jere Lee Hodgin, Nick Spear, and Jeremy Sher. Hillary Bard is the
stage manager.
Seating is limited, so please reserve your seats in advance by calling
406.728.0447.

“Be” is one woman’s testimony about how
God brought her out of the depths of Hell
(a.k.a. her drug addiction), and into the
Light. G (as in G.O.D.) is a fairy-like English
woman that takes 7 different recreational
drugs through a 7-step recovery program.
You’ll meet Mary Jane, Rock, Snow, Molly, Cid, Kay, and Crystal. These drugs
personified will tell you the tale of Be and her boyfriend Ben, and their addictive
personalities and relationship. You’ll never look at rehab the same again!
“FOUR STARS (Highest Rating). Lesley Asistio gives a powerful performance as
one of three monologists in the Hollywood Fringe Festival presentation of WAR
FOR H.I.S. It is a personal, brave, in-your-face dissertation of the seductive appeal
of illicit drugs. She leaves the audience slack-jawed and on the edge of their
seats.”-Todd David Schwartz, KRLA Radio

Premiere
Yael (the slightly older sister of the
obvious Rebecca Ballantyne) and Vlady
have been playing together for about
five years since the day they met in
San Diego. The music they now make
together is a result of the European
culture they came from mixed with
American blues, R&B grooves, Latin and
African rhythms, and resulting in their
version of contemporary expressionist
art. At the Zoo, they will be surrounded
by their genetic, crazy, musical family,
as the festival lands smack in the midst
of a long awaited family reunion.
There’s gonna be some singing!!

DANNY SAYS is a documentary
on the life and times of Danny
Fields. Since 1966, Danny Fields
has played a pivotal role in
music and “culture” of the late
20th century: working for the Doors, Lou Reed, Nico, Judy Collins and managing
groundbreaking artists like the Stooges, the MC5 and the Ramones. DANNY SAYS
follows Fields from Harvard Law dropout, to the Warhol Silver Factory, to Director
of Publicity at Elektra Records, to “punk pioneer” and beyond. Danny’s taste and
opinion, once deemed defiant and radical, has turned out to have been prescient.
DANNY SAYS is a story of
marginal turning mainstream,
avant garde turning prophetic,
as Fields looks to the next
generation.

Fish & Beauregard is a fantastical journey through puddles and clouds, about
good intentions gone wrong. A unique story that resonates with a broad

It’s Who You Know is Chambers Stevens’
exciting new one man show.
Here’s how it works.
On stage there is a table with a large
box.
Inside the box are hundreds of cards.
Each card has the name of a different
actor, celebrity, musician, or writer on it.
The cards are shuffled and put back in
the box.
Chambers enters.
He pulls a card and tells a true story
about his run in with that performer.
Some stories are funny.
Many are touching, exciting, inspiring.
Every show is totally different.
Come see why “It’s Who You Know” is
selling out theatres across the country.

All Over the Bored · Ages 6+ · Flashing Lights · World Premiere
Its been said many times that “there are only two types of Music…and one of
them is Good” All Over the Bored is a collection of multi-instrumentalist and
talented musicians that play a wide selection of musical styles in that spirit. No
matter what style of music you prefer, we are sure you will love the music that is
created by this eclectic and fun collaboration.
Husband and wife team, Gary and Evelyn Kiggins are thrilled to continue to gather
some of Missoula’s finest artists to create a musical and multi-media show , that is
the 2000’s version of the iconic “Variety” shows of the past.
This is the 2nd year creating a programs for the Missoula Fringe, after last years
Maiden Voyage that INCLUDED, Herbie Hancocks, “Maiden Voyage” featuring the
masterful trumpet of Eric Hutchins, the iconic hippy-rock version of Its a Beautiful
Day’s , “White Bird” featuring Beth Youngblood’s stunning performance on Violin,
Evelyn Kiggins singing of a traditional Cuban Bolero, Marlene Hutchins channeling
Bonnie Raitt in “Love me Like a Man”, and Eric Pfeiffer’s powerful recreating of
some retro-blues.
Watch this year for a program that will include even a wider variety of musical
styles, backed by a beautiful multi-media presentation. Last year we featured a
montage of Cuba , encouraging a lifting of the embargo and improved relations
with the United States, through Jackson Browns, “Going Down To Cuba” and look
what has happened, just months later. This year we are going to include the
Beatles “All You Need is Love and Give Peace a Chance”

Lemons says, “Piehler’s
& tickets at
understated, selfdeprecating humor and
comedically ungainly physical mannerisms play well…. What Piehler does very
well, under director Thomas O’Leary’s well-paced guidance, is pull the audience
into the world of competitive riding, from the point of view of a child…. Humorfilled recollections of mishaps, miscues, utter failures and eventual triumphs are
entwined within a boy’s gradual realization of the world around him and his place
in it…. The audience could have easily spent another 10 or 15 minutes in Piehler’s
company.”

Festival Favorites Sharon Knight and
Winter are internationally touring
musicians in the mythic-Celtic vein.
Their penchant for combining fierce
and gutsy bravado with ethereal
beauty, a hearty dose of fantastical
lyrics, and an obvious love of
storytelling has inspired their own
style, “Neofolk Romantique”. This
often sound less Celtic and more
“Folktales that ran away with the Faeries at the
turn of the century and took cover in an old
trunk bound for the circus, which was then
commandeered by pirates.” This suits them
fine.
They have shared stages with mythic music
favorites such as Faun, Omnia, Corvus Corax,
SJ Tucker, Tricky Pixie, Heather Dale, Wendy
Rule, Stellamara, and many more. They have
recently completed a successful corwdfunding
campaign for their next album, Portals, which
will feature cameos from several of these
artists. Look for Portals in Fall/Winter 2015!

“A suspense-packed
study of the erotics
(and semiotics) of
power … [that]
provides a seriously
smart and very funny
stage seminar on the
destabilizing nature of sexual desire: vanilla-flavored, kink-festooned or anything in
between.”

Frank Bukkwyd · Ages 18+ · One Person Show
Frank Bukkwyd returns to Missoula for his
third Zootown Fringe Festival performance.
Each year, Frank Bukkwyd shares assorted
stories of his life as the highest paid porn
star that never took off his clothes. Each
show rendition is an intimate, (or not), look
into the world of porn. His surprising stories
and insights take the audience where they
could never venture, yet never seems “dirty” or voyeuristic. Even if you’ve never
seen a porn movie Frank sets you at ease while still offering plenty of detail that
would satisfy any fan of the genre. And, you’ll discover how to create your own
porn stage name.
