ALBUM INFO:
The world has lost a great musician and gifted vocalist, when the legendary Ronnie James Dio passed away almost 5 years ago.
He was a hero and inspiration to many musicians, such as Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Doro Pesch or Axel Rudi Pell, and rumor has it
that he‘s the main reason why every metal head worldwide is familiar with the sign of the horns.
Now it‘s time some of our bands pay tribute to him as well!
CRYSTAL BALL, MESSENGER, GUN BARREL, GLORYFUL, THE ORDER, METAL INQUISITOR, CIRCLE OF
SILENCE, BURDEN OF GRIEF, LOVE.MIGHT.KILL, REBELLION, IRON FATE and WIZARD all covered Ronnie James Dio
songs to honor this exceptional musician.
The stunning artwork was created by Jan Yrlund (Darkgrove.net), who stated:
“I was thrilled to create the artwork, as DIO is one of my all-time favorite bands and I knew this tribute would be really cool! So I
decided to go for an old school type of hand-painted look, like the classic Dio covers, but I still wanted to keep it original.
You‘ll find many hints and details that refer to well-known DIO themes:
The mountain has two peaks as if they were devil‘s horns, and of course the DIO mascot Murray is featured too, merging from the
fire. The people are marching to him like it was a judgment day. It was a great pleasure to work on this cover!”

BAND STATEMENTS:
CRYSTAL BALL, Cris Stone
DIO - means god in Italian! Thanks to him, the first heavy metal band in history, Black Sabbath, continued to exist. Who has ever
listened to “Sign Of The Southern Cross”, will attest DIO the (vocal) god status. He left us too soon - Ronnie James Dio RIP - a
tiny god with a sacred heart...
MESSENGER
We lost one of the most influential musicians when Ronnie James Dio passed away. He was an inherent part of the metal scene
and didn‘t care much about trends. He had and will continue to have a special place in the heart of countless music fans. Very few
musicians can compete with that. We want to pay a worthy tribute to him with our cover songs.
GUN BARREL
We deliberately picked songs from two different bands, because Dio was an amazing solo artist and established a heavy rock
milestone with Black Sabbath. We love “Voodoo” and “Evil Eyes”. They match us well und had a blast performing it.
GLORYFUL, Daniel Perl
Ronnie James Dio was an icon and role model for whole generations and an honorable human being with a high degree of social
commitment. It was hard to decide on only two songs that represent his whole life. In the end we chose songs from his DIO
project that he founded with Vinny Appice. We picked “Holy Diver”, because it‘s still a thrilling hymn, as well as “Metal Will
Never Die”, one of the last songs he has recorded, and which also honors him as the hero that he is.
THE ORDER, Bruno Spring
Back in 1987 I was still in school, when I first saw Dio live during the “Dream Evil” tour. It was my first concert ever and I still
remember it like it happened yesterday. Ronnie was incredible, the audience went crazy and Craig Goldy shot a huge robot spider
with laser beams. A sight to behold!
That‘s why THE ORDER‘s thrilled to contribute 2 songs to the DIO tribute album!
METAL INQUISITOR, Blumi
The album “Sacred Heart” was an underrated milestone in classic metal history. “King Of Rock ’N‘ Roll”, the album opener, is
truly outstanding and deserves a tribute.
CIRCLE OF SILENCE
Ronnie James Dio was an exceptionally gifted vocalist with an absolutely unique voice. With “One Night In The City” and “Time
Machine”, we chose two songs we consider as highlights of his huge legacy and which, we think, deserve to be part of this tribute
project.
BURDEN OF GRIEF, Philipp Hanfland
So much has been written about Tony Iommi‘s iconic riffs. But when Dio joined Black Sabbath, the music became magical.
“Neon Knights”, being one of the more straight-forward Dio-fronted Black Sabbath classics, was one of just a very few songs we
dared to touch at all.
LOVE.MIGHT.KILL, Michael Ehré
There isn‘t anyone else like Ronnie James Dio, who managed to release so many timeless classics with different bands. With
“Stand Up And Shout” as well as “Hungry For Heaven”, we picked two of the early classics of his solo career, because they are an
integral part of the soundtrack of our lives and also they also became some kind of motto for Love.Might.Kill!
REBELLION, Tomi Göttlich
For us “old gentlemen”, Dio is a huge part of our youth, because we all banged our heads to Dio songs on the dance floor. We
picked “Kill The King”, because we thought it would sound great as a metal version (it turned out really well in the end); and “I”,
because it isn’t necessarily a classic, and we also wanted to offer something the beaten track!
IRON FATE
You could easily pick every single song off “Rainbow Rising”, because it‘s without a doubt the best hard rock album of all times.
We decided to cover “A Light In The Black”, because it‘s brimful of energy and kicks some major ass! Dio = god!
WIZARD, Sven D‘Anna
It was pretty hard for us to pick a song, since every Dio song is a true masterpiece that gets under your skin. In the end, we chose
to cover “Caught In The Act”. Dio will always live on in our hearts!
