Press release
Quebec City, March 25, 2016
Quebec’s spa establishments are essential
Quebec’s spa establishments are happy to contribute to welcoming 2.2 million visitors per
year, and to support all Quebec regions by offering wellness, discovery and a sense of
wonder, twelve months per year. The President of the AQS, Sylvie Lessard, proudly states
that “the quality of the welcome, the reliability and stability of the offering, as well as the
great capacity for innovation and dedicated service of our members ensure the
development of our sector, all across Quebec.”
Wellness and thermal experiences trends are increasingly preferred by Quebecers and
visitors. This complementary product constitutes the top attraction to be integrated into
many promotional tourism strategies.
As one of the rare products to be economically viable year round, with a unique and
attractive charm for any client regardless of Mother Nature’s moods, a stay in a spa
establishment is an important activity in Quebec, and one that supports the economic
development of the regions. According to the President, “It is not surprising that the winter
promotional campaigns of regional tourism associations have all showcased their spa
products.” This clearly shows that heat, waves, relaxation and health are no longer
exclusive to sunny destinations.
The spa industry generates revenues of more than $200 million dollars, of which 44 % can
be attributed to tourism. It creates approximately 4,000 jobs.
____
The Association québécoise des spas supports, represents, defends its members and acts
as spokesperson for all spa establishments in Quebec.

The culture of Abitibi-Témiscamingue
Abitibi-Témiscamingue is known far and wide for its walleye and northern pike fishing. This vast region is also
popular with lovers of the great outdoors who, starting in June, will be served by a new Outdoor Access
application and Web site. These tools will give those who prefer a self-guided experience an opportunity to
access this untamed land safely and with respect for the environment. But beyond the call of nature, AbitibiTémiscamingue is also drawing growing curiosity for its truly extraordinary culture. The region’s people hold a
special place for their Anishnabek roots. An array of challenging unique events are offered throughout the
season. And the boomtown architecture gives communities a special flavour. Several sites and attractions tell
the story of the area’s recent history and thriving development. Meanwhile, communities are giving increasing
space to their artists. And the region’s producers harvest the best of this northern land, and its cafés, breweries,
chefs and restaurants proudly transform them into wares that rival each other in originality. To visit to AbitibiTémiscamingue is to immerse yourself in a vast natural region and a teeming culture, and to meet a people as
proud as they are welcoming.

Beyond Percé Rock and Bonaventure Island with its 120,000 Northern Gannets, the most accessible colony of these diving
birds in the world, Gaspésie’s 800 km of maritime coast is a dream tourist destination. A unique landscape of contrasts
lies between sea and mountains, and presents natural areas comprising the highest peaks of Eastern Canada, with four
national parks and five wildlife areas offering a wide range of outdoor activities. Other destinations here such as interpretive
centres, museums, and art galleries reveal the rich historical and cultural heritage of Gaspésie.
Gaspésie is also about gourmet finds, as well as festivals marked by local warmth and originality. In short, this is a large and
vast region filled with unique treasures and exciting activities!
New Activities!
