Making more out of wood
Five good reasons
for LIGNA
Innovative technologies and production scenarios, large
machines and the advent of Industrie 4.0 in the woodworking and timber processing industry: in 2015 LIGNA demonstrated once again that it is the world’s leading trade fair for
machinery, plant and tools for the woodworking and timber processing industry. A total of 1,552 exhibitors presented
pioneering solutions and technologies and innovative production systems on more than 120,000 square metres of
exhibition space. The show was attended by 93,000 visitors, including 40 % from outside Germany.
In the meantime we have been developing and refining
the format for LIGNA 2017 to make sure that the show
keeps pace with the changing needs of the marketplace.
You can find out more about these changes and improvements from page 6 onwards.

For industry players worldwide, LIGNA is the major platform for presenting new products for the first time to
an international public. And with its new format it now
offers even more – more innovations, more international
coverage, a very high concentration of potential buyers,
and valuable new business contacts.
So come and join us as an exhibitor at LIGNA, and find
out for yourself how our exciting new concept can deliver
for your business. It’s a unique opportunity to make those
vital new contacts on which your future sales depend!
We look forward to seeing you there.

The new structure
As the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Woodworking and Wood Processing Machinery, Plant and Equipment,
LIGNA 2017 has been refined and improved for both exhibitors and trade visitors. The changes allow customers to
make better use of their time at the show, while the needs of exhibitors are fully and precisely met. In particular,
the merging of the three previous show categories “Solid Wood Working”, “Furniture Industry” and “Woodcraft
Solutions” into the one display section “Tools and Machinery for Custom and Mass Production” makes for a more
compact and clearly organized presentation. This saves visitors time and energy.
New developments, new technologies,
new topic areas
Why were these changes and adjustments necessary?
Technologies today are no longer tied to businesses of a
certain size. The new layout reflects this by putting like
with like. So, for example, the overlap between Surface
Technology and Wood Based Panel Production is made
clearer by siting the two sets of exhibits closer together.
Likewise the two sections Energy from Wood and Wood
Based Panel Production are also placed close together
for 2017. Where possible, exhibitors of technology for solid
wood working are placed in Hall 27, which puts them near
the displays of sawmill technology on the one hand, and
timber construction on the other. Exhibitors of machine
components and automation technology have their own
dedicated section of the show, centrally located in Hall 16.

Towards Industrie 4.0
Under the general heading of “Integrated Manufacturing”, LIGNA
features an array of intelligent and integrated manufacturing
systems, accompanied by innovative concepts and strategies for
incorporating these into the value-adding networks of the woodworking and timber processing industry. Integrated manufacturing
is now used intensively in both series and small-batch production,
where extreme customization is increasing.
LIGNA is the perfect platform for exploring this highly complex
topic area through a combination of accessibly presented infor
mation and examples of practical applications, brought to life for
visitors in guided tours and talks by industry experts.

Integrated Manufacturing
International platform for primary industry
Vertically integrated enterprises, which combine several stages
of the value-adding chain under one roof – from timber harvesting
to cellulose production, for example – are facing special challenges
of their own.
The Wood Industry Summit gives exhibitors the opportunity to
present technical solutions that meet the challenges faced by
customers. Guided delegations, selected focus topics and a forum
are all part of the format.

Satisfied exhibitors
In 2015 LIGNA was once again a big success. Senior decision-makers from well-known companies in
the woodworking and timber processing industry were united in their opinion about the show:
Luigi De Vito, Director of the Machinery Division,
SCM Group S.p.A., Italy:
“We presented a broad range of technologies at our stands,
with everything from computerized plant, software solutions and on-site machines for joiners and cabinet-makers
to surface finishing technologies. We wanted to make full
use of all the opportunities that were available at the
most important trade show for the woodworking and
timber processing industry.”
Hansjörg Felder, Managing Director of Felder KG,
Austria:
“Once again LIGNA has lived up to its reputation as the
world’s leading trade fair in its field, with unrivalled international coverage. This is our platform for showcasing
new product lines.”
Ralf Dreeke, Managing Director of Forsttechnik
Wahlers GmbH, Germany:
“In contrast to Central Europe, the international forestry
and timber industry is organized on industrial lines. A single enterprise is responsible for the whole process chain ‒
from raw timber management to sawn timber stock, chipboard panels and cellulose. LIGNA is the only show where
you can see a complete range of products for primary and
secondary timber processing on an industrial scale. So this
is where the decision-makers come to buy.”
