How to Rent Your
Textbooks Online
(this method holds your rental book for you)
Why rent your textbooks instead of buy your
textbooks?
Cost savings. Renting your textbooks can save you
40% - 60% off the new textbook price. Overtime the
savings can really add-up. As an example, say a new
book is $100 and you need to buy two
books for two terms, over four years.
If you rented used textbooks from U of T
Bookstore, you could save $640.
U of T Bookstore
Rental Program
1. Check the rental textbook list (it is separate from regular textbook lists):
www.uoftbookstore.com/rental-textbooks
2. Read the terms and conditions in store or online
3. Click on the rental textbook title, add to cart, and
follow the shopping cart procedures
4. You will receive a confirmation email stating we received your order and you will receive another
email letting you know when your rental textbook
is ready for pick-up
5. You will receive rental return reminders when
the book is due back (the date will also be in
the printable contract and on your receipt)
Pros:
• Cost savings: 40% to 60% off the new book price
• You can rent new or used books
• You can rent online and pick-up in the store or you
can go to any UofTBookstore and rent in store
• You can write and make notes in your rental*
• It’s right on the U of T campus so you don’t have to wait to get your book or ship it back
• There is a return policy* so if you rented the wrong book, or dropped a course, you’re not locked-in
• You get rental return reminder emails
Slurp?
• Rentals are exclusive to UofT Students
Cons:
• You cannot keep the book
• It’s a popular service, so you should rent the book ASAP to ensure you get a copy. If you leave it too late in the term there may not be any left to rent
• You are responsible for damage and theft
• It has to be returned on time or there are penalties (see contract* for details)
*Contract and rental return policies are online and in store.
