GM’s
Message
Dear members & friends,
T
he first half of this year was packed with festivities at the Aranda Country Club. You and your
guests were treated to an array of sumptuous feasts at Restaurant Aranda to celebrate the
New Year, Valentine’s Day, Secretary’s Week, Easter Day and Labour Day as well as Mother’s
and Father’s Day.
Upcoming activities to watch out for include our Members’ Night on 28 July 2007 (Saturday). At only
$5 per member and $1 for a mug of beer, don’t miss out this great members’ event! Our Kid’s Hot Dog
Extravaganza on 25 August 2007 (Saturday) has been brought back by popular demand. Kids can
once again enjoy hotdogs at only $1 each! Watch out too, for our upcoming mooncake promotion in
September at Restaurant Aranda. Turn the pages and explore the list of activities we have in store for
you and your family.
As you know, Aranda organises a host of weekly social and sporting activities for all members to enjoy as a way of keeping fit and
healthy. Our weekly social dance classes are sure to provide the much needed cardio workout. Our body-sculpting classes
commencing 31 July 2007 (Tuesday) are a great way to get a new body and the chance to pick up prizes in our contest! Don’t
forget our weekly yoga classes, and we have even arranged a yoga retreat in Batam on 14 July 2007 (Saturday) which promises
to be an enriching experience for the entire family. Be sure to enquire and submit your applications soon!
With such indulgences and many more lined up for you in the second half of the year, now is the time to adopt our mid-year
resolution – working out to stay healthy as a family.
Remember, to be rich in health is true prosperity! And happiness is not a daily gift, it is a conscious decision we make everyday to
choose to be happy. That is my food for thought this season.
Have a splendid time at the Club!
Yours sincerely

Upgraded & Improved to
Serve You Better
At Aranda, we are always
looking for ways to improve the
Club’s facilities to make your
visits as pleasurable as possible.
Recent improvements include
rejuvenation of the Gazebo Bar,
which just got cooler, thanks to
the installation of outdoor fans,
and a fresh look with a new
entrance archway and banner.
Installation of sun reflection
shades at the gymnasium also
helped to cool things down
for early morning exercisers
by shielding morning glare.
Improvements were also made
to the entrance of the Club,
enhancing our warm welcome
with landscaping works at the
main road entrance, Clubhouse
front porch and car park area.
The guardhouse was also
repainted. In addition, 10 car
park lots were upgraded in the
parallel parking area.

In Honour of Two Very Talented Bowlers
We take this opportunity in this issue to acknowledge the
long-standing service of two of our greatest bowlers,
Ms Sally Lim and Mr Zames Tay.
Sally was Ladies Champion in the second Aranda Bowling
Tournament held in 1997.
Zames, a child talent star in the 1990s and a bowling star
today, has participated in various bowling tournaments
including the most recent Fun Bowling Tournament organised
by Aranda.
Let’s hope these two great players will inspire more Aranda
members to excel in the sport!

Easter Party
Egg-citement!
@ Restaurant Aranda
Lee Yiw
The Easter Brunch at Restaurant Aranda on 8 April 2007 was an enormous success,
especially for the kids. Much anticipation hung in the air around the Gazebo Bar as the
kids took part in the Ladybug Eggs and Signature Hunts. When all hidden treasures had
been found, the kids settled down for an enjoyable egg painting and colouring session.
Participants certainly left with more than they came with. The children were treated to
balloon sculptures and prizes that included Easter Bunny chocolate, marshmallows,
stationary sets and toys in eggshells. An egg-citing time for all our kiddies!

Committee Chairman, Mr Victor Pang graced the event and
threw the first bowl.
Following that, eleven teams of four bowlers each battled it
out at the bowling alley. In between turns, everyone took a
breather to enjoy

A
s working professionals with families and schedules
to juggle, we frantically work against the clock to get
things done at the expense of exercise time. Yet
exercise is such an important aspect of our lives. To
lead a fulfilling life, we need to be fit and healthy,
and that means finding time for exercise.
Exercise has numerous benefits, from building strength and
stamina to relieving stress. It also helps you lose weight, giving
you a great toned body and a boost to your self esteem! Most
importantly, exercise helps our immune systems ward off disease
by keeping our bodies fit and healthy. Cardiovascular-related
diseases are no longer the afflictions of the elderly alone. People
as young as 30 years old are
getting heart disease because
of unhealthy diets and lack of
exercise. Imagine being stricken
by such a disease, at any age.
How would your life and the life
of those you love be affected?
The good news is, with the right
lifestyle, this can be avoided.
Everybody deserves to live
a long and healthy life, and
you do too. Help yourself
today by making exercise a
priority in your life. Here,
we offer you tips on how
to make exercise a part of
your lifestyle so that you
reap its benefits without
compromising your other
commitments.
What If I Hate Exercising?
It’s understandable to have an initial reluctance towards
exercising if you have been sedentary for a while. You would
feel the strain in your muscles and lungs as they work harder
than what they’re used to. You might also get muscle aches for
some time as your body slowly adjusts to the higher level of
activity you are putting it through.
The best way to start your exercise regime is to make a goal,
commit to it and get support from others. If you have already
decided in your mind to be healthy and fit, you have already
accomplished step one. Step two and three are not as easy
– but not to fret! Read on for some great tips on keeping
yourself going.
Staying For The Long Haul
Some people have the strength of mind and willpower to see
their goals through to the end all by themselves. If you don’t
count yourself among that group, the following suggestions could
be welcome. Firstly, write your goal down on a piece of paper
or a board and put it in a place you will have to pass by every
day, such as the fridge. This is to constantly remind yourself
of the promise you have made to yourself to be a healthy, fit
individual. Next, schedule in your calendar at the start of every
week your exercise days and times. This is so that, when other
appointments come in during the week, you would already
have made time for exercise, and therefore would not have a
reason to skip it.
07
Feature
Story
The best way of staying committed, though, is if you have
someone at your side supporting you all the way. Being your
closest and dearest, they will be able to give you lots of loving
support. They will also be able to give you accurate (and tactful)
information on your progress. In fact, why not get your family
members involved as well? You can then support each other
and spend time together – everyone will be healthier to show
for it and you will bond closer as a family.
Exercise Can Be Fun
There are many activities you can do together with your family
to make exercise fun. In fact, you can start today by just making
use of your membership at Aranda Country Club:
Line Dancing and Fun Jog
Gym and Pool
The gym or the pool is a great place to be for the whole family!
At Aranda’s gym, you and your family have the benefit of using
a whole different range of exercise machines. Take turns at the
various machines, and share how many pull-ups, kilometres etc.
you have all achieved that day.
The pool at Aranda is also a good place to exercise. Nothing
beats a few laps, but if that doesn’t motivate you, you and your
family could play a small game of water polo instead. Even
better, you could join up with other swimmers. Fun and fitness
at the same time – isn’t that a great deal?
Aranda organises fun sporty activities which are good for you
and the family too. If you all fancy learning something new, why
not join Aranda’s line dancing courses? Most people won’t even
remember they’re exercising when they’re too busy co-ordinating
their legs and arms!
Even if dancing is not your cup of tea, there is still the fun jog.
Join Aranda’s weekly jog in the park for maximum fun and a
wholesome workout. You could race among yourselves during
the jog, or even team up and race against other people’s
families.
Yoga and Pilates
The hottest new activities in town, yoga and pilates are other
options you can consider. These two exercises really slow things
down and are meant more for building strength, gaining flexibility
and obtaining peace of mind. They help tone muscles and
strengthen joints. The peace of mind comes from the smooth,
steady nature and gentle conditioning of these exercises, which
ease your worries and give you a sense of balance. You and
your family could combine yoga and pilates sessions with the
fun exercise activities mentioned earlier for maximum benefits.
You’ll be glad to know that Aranda has yoga and pilates classes
which you and your family can join. Great convenience!
Help yourself achieve a healthy body and mind by exercising
today. It’s so easy and convenient, especially when everything
you could possibly need for a healthy and active lifestyle is at
Aranda Country Club. With a goal, a commitment and your family
to support you, exercise will not be as difficult as you think.
Aranda’s wide array of exercise options also gives you flexibility
in choosing how you want your exercise regime to be each day.
Maximise your Aranda membership by getting fit today!
