Ft. Eustis Police Crime Prevention








Most burglaries in the area happen during hours of darkness
Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
Even if it is for a short time, lock your doors.
Keep your garage door closed and locked.
Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
Lawn mowers, barbecues and bicycles are best stored out of sight
Always lock your garden sheds and garages.
Use curtains on garage and basement windows.
Never leave notes on your door such as “Gone shopping.”




Holiday Season is a prime time for crime
Beware of bogus websites offering just about everything you could want for
Christmas, especially those hard to find gifts, at fantastic bargain prices.
Do not let people approach you in parking lots, stay off the phone, stay alert
Regardless of charity never let door to door people see inside your home, if
on post call the Police Desk at 757-878-4555 immediately
Package theft is on the rise, monitor the delivery of valuable items
 Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.
 Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night
without adult supervision.
 If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision,
they should stick to familiar areas that are well lit and
trick-or-treat in groups.
 Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers
and, if possible, choose light colors.
 Use face paint / makeup instead of masks,
which can obstruct a child’s vision.
 Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.
 Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.
