Driving Safety Tips
• Avoid Distracted Driving. Cell phones can take your focus away from the task at hand:
arriving safely at your destination. Do not answer calls or text messages while driving.
• Avoid driving when you're tired. Be aware that some medications can cause drowsiness
and make operating a vehicle very dangerous. Be sure to take a break every 2 hours.
• Always use caution when changing lanes. Cutting in front of someone, changing lanes too
fast or not using your signals may cause an accident or upset other drivers.

Mr. William Reed 878-4555
Driving Safety Tips
• Beware of the Caterpillar – don’t tailgate – keep a safe distance.
• Buckle Up! Did you know that fastening your Seatbelt can reduce your risk
of being killed or injured in a crash by 50%? That’s a staggering statistic,
especially when you consider how many people still choose not to buckle
up. It’s the law to wear your safety belt.
• Don’t Drink and Drive. In 2011, 27% of traffic fatalities involved alcohol.
Drinking and Driving is a huge problem in the state and far too many lives
are lost because of poor decisions. If you know that you will be drinking,
always have a plan. The legal BAC limit is 0.08%, however a BAC as low as
0.02% can affect your driving abilities. Don’t become a statistic. Avoid
drinking and driving at all costs.

TMO Tips for a Stress-Free PCS
Don’t delay - commercial carrier schedules fill up fast during peak season so start coordination
immediately upon receipt of orders
- complete Self Counseling at http://www.move.mil
Safety first - members/dependents MUST NOT sponsor movers on to installation as movers MUST
be vetted by Security Forces
- members or dependents are required to be present at all times during move process
Be prepared - ensure all items that require shipment or storage are clearly identified to carrier personnel
- complete walk-thru of residence before movers depart to ensure all identified items have
been packed/loaded
- provide accurate/updated contact information to carrier
Provide feedback - utilize the Defense Personal Property System and local TMO office
Contact TMO with Questions - Langley: (757) 764-4151/7868/7869/4171/2045

Summer Safety
Good….
- Mishaps show a steady downward trend AF wide.
- No Data to Support that Summer is any more dangerous than the rest of the year.
Bad…
- Even with positive mishap trends, the DoD as a whole still loses millions of dollars
and lives each year due to accidents.
• Seasonal Hazards On and Off-duty
• Driving Hazards (Distracted/Under the Influence)
Ugly…
- In almost every single case the MEMBER, could have prevented their own
mishap.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO??
Summer Safety
Responsibilities…
“…Consider personal safety and the safety of
coworkers while performing assigned tasks as well as
off-duty activities….” AFI 91-202 The US Air Force
