Primary 5Newsletter  February 2015
Directress: Monica Pearson Assistant: Michaela Glusic
We warmly welcome Brian Zhang and his family to the
MSLF community and our Primary 5 class. Brian started
transitioning this week. As always, it is heart-warming to see
the welcoming friends eager to be a helper, a friend, and a
role model. Brian has been busy exploring the Practical Life
materials such as spooning and pouring.
Conferences
Conferences are just around the corner, starting March 2nd.
-up sheet at the front desk.
There is a sign
Hopefully you can find a date and time that is
convenient for you. If not, please let me know and we can schedule a date
that is better for you. I look
forward to meeting with each of you and
sharing information about your child’s progress at school and home.
Observations
You are welcome to observe your child at work. Observing your child can
help you gain insight about your child’s capabilities, behavior, and social
interactions.
Please sign up at the front desk. When you observe, please fill
out an observation form. You can turn it in to Lynn when you leave, and
we can discuss it further at conference time. Extended day families, I would
encourage you to observe the afternoon work cycle.
In honor of the Chinese New Year, we are
reading books about this special time of year,
having our Chinese lessons with Mrs. Leung, and
offering a work in our room where the children
can write the Chinese characters that spell out
Happy New Year.
nHeartfelt thanks for all your generosity for our classroom.
We are grateful~ The kindness you express is seen by your children and
therefore sets an awesome example for them…In return, they will grow up to be
kind, generous individuals because of the example you have set for them.
[ Many thanks to Tanya Hinkle who came in to work with
the children to create their adorable Valentine bags.
Thank you Tanya for donating all the fun stickers and
decorations and the stamped heart bags. They were
perfect for all the wonderful and creative Valentine
cards.
[ The Douglas Family~ Thank you for providing snack for our class for the week.
The jumbo dried
cranberries were a big hit. Cailyn was excited to bring snack and help set everything up for her
friends. Thank you also for the pretty bouquet of flowers. Thank you also for the yogurt and crackers
in honor of Cailyn’s 5th birthday.
[ The Oates Family~ Thank you for the bouquet of daisies, just because.
Flower arranging is a
favorite work so having fresh, easy to cut flowers are perfect. So sweet of your family to be so
generous. Thank you also for the delicious fruit kabobs in honor of Brenton’s 6th birthday!
[ The Clifford Family~ Thank you for the generous supply of groceries for our snack.
The tortillas
and shredded cheese were perfect for making quesadillas. The gorgeous bunches of flowers made
our room look like a florist! So pretty!
[ Mrs. Glusic~ Thank you for the lovely Valentine heart decoration you made for our class.
You are
so talented and your hand-made gifts are so special.
[
Kathryn Jasinski~ Thank you for the beautiful apron you brought back from the Montessori
Refresher course. You are always so thoughtful in bringing wonderful gifts that we can use in the
classroom. It is perfect for our many works when the children need an apron.
[ The Fiore Family~ Thank you so much for the amazing bunches of flowers!
Wow! Your family has
been so generous to our classroom! Each and every flower was admired as they were arranged into
vases. Thank you!
[ The Shanahan Family~ Thank you for all of the healthy groceries for our snack this week.
The
fresh fruits are such a treat during these cold winter days. Thank you also for the pretty flowers.
We are hopeful for spring days ahead.
School Store
Helen Gerbin, our Toddler Assistant and P.E. teacher for Extended Day, also runs our
school store. It will be open on Mondays from 2:00pm-3:00pm. The Extended Day
children can have an opportunity to purchase items such as pencils, journals and even
school gear. If you wish to send money in for your child, they can shop at the store
during Extended Day. For others, you may send in your money and order and we can
pick it up for you. There are fun Montessori spirit t-shirts and other gear too.
Sock Hop
Friday, February 27th
5:30pm-7:00pm
I look forward to seeing our families at the Sock Hop.
Come to join us for a night of fun and pizza.

Mom’s Hour February 28th
I look forward to hosting Mom’s Hour at the end of the month. If you were not able to
come to the Dad’s Hour, please know you are welcome to come to Mom’s Hour. This is
a wonderful opportunity for you to spend time with your child in class. They are always
so excited for these days. It truly means a lot to them to show you their work as they are
so proud. I have designated a time slot, but as always feel free to switch if that works
better for your schedule. I will have my camera to capture these precious moments.
Thank you for making the time for your child. It also is so helpful for you to see your
child in their environment so we can share your insights at conferences.

all that kindness matters. We all carry an invisible bucket that you
cannot see but know that it is there. We fill our buckets by filling

bucket, we fill our own at the same time. However, if we hurt someone
with our words or actions, we can also be a bucket dipper.
The children thought it would be fun to make our own buckets as little
reminders to be a bucket filler not a bucket dipper. May all of us be
encouraged to fill buckets daily and have our buckets overflowing with
smiles and happiness too.
Congratulations to Gulden Mesara-Dogan, Sarper’s
mom for publishing her first book. Sarper brought the
book in to share with his friends. It was a wonderful
story based on the real life of Sarper’s family.
Sarper was so proud. Gulden decided to write a book
explaining to her children what happens in an office
setting and how a parent spends time at work. It also
shares about the time they spend as a family at home
after a working day.
This book is available for purchase at Amazon.
