PUBLISHING & ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
WELCOME TO MAKE YOUR OWN-OPOLY.
Make Your Own-Opoly is a kit that contains everything needed to produce one customized property trading style
board game. This can be done by loading the simple desktop publishing program that is contained herein to yield a
one-of-a-kind original board game that is only limited by the boundaries of your imagination.
Step #1
INSTALLING THE PROGRAM
Insert the CD-Rom disk into the appropriate drive.
If the program does not automatically install, run MakeYourOwnSetup.exe and follow the on-screen
prompts. The program will create a directory and group called “MYOPOLY” on your C: drive (unless you
indicate differently.)
When the installation is complete you can begin using Make Your Own-Opoly immediately. However, it is
highly recommended that you follow the four additional steps that follow in order to achieve the best results.
Step #2
CREATING YOUR NEW GAME
The main editing screen is seen in Figure 1 at the right. To
edit any space, you simply click on that area to change the
text and/or an image. This will be explained further in later
sections.
To Begin:
Although you could begin editing immediately, it will be
much less confusing to use the Game Customizing
Worksheets located at the end of these instructions.
Every customizable aspect of a game is listed on these
pages. Once you have filled them out, editing will be much
easier.

Game Examples:
There are four game examples included. A Generic example is shown on the first screen, but if you select “OPEN”
from the pull down “FILE” menu, you can load any of three other themes to use as your starting point. Using one of
these examples to start your game design could greatly reduce your work load. However, if you wish to start from
scratch, please feel free to be creative.

Editing Board & Box Spaces
To edit spaces on the board or box label, simply click on the
area to be edited on the main screen. For example, clicking on
the center of the board will bring up the “Edit Center Area”
screen shown in Figure 2. When you make your desired
changes here and click OK, all aspects of your game that
relate to these names will be changed automatically. The
approximate look of your changes is shown in the displays.
After clicking on the lower right hand “Starting Corner,” the
editing sequence is shown in Figures 3 through 5. The text
can be changed by selecting it and typing the desired new
copy. Click on the “Find Image” box to browse through images
that can be added to each space. Figure 5 shows a completely
redesigned “Starting Corner” space. By clicking OK these
changes are recorded.
Figure 2
Browsing & Importing Images:
There are several images included with the game that can be
used to decorate your board spaces, moving pieces and play
money. The collection is located on the cd-rom in a directory
called “CLIPART,” where images are listed in several
categories and sub-categories.
You can choose to browse or import your own images in
several different formats. This would include scanned photos.
For best results use 1 inch x 1 inch, 300 DPI BMP or JPG
images. By using the “Find Image” browser shown in Figure 4,
select the drive letter where the image files are located. Then
select an image for preview in the image box. Click OK to
include it.
Figure 3
Where Images Can Be Used:
Either clipart or your own photos can appear on each
customizable board space, each game token and each
denomination of the play money. However, no images will
appear on the deed cards that correspond to board spaces.
NOTE: Importing the same image more than once can cause an
error. Use the same image more than once, by finding it on your
C: drive, not the CD Rom.
Figure 4
Saving Your Work in Progress
As you click around the board to make your changes and
additions, it is a good idea to save your new game as you go
by pulling down the “File” menu and clicking “Save As.” Give
your new game a unique name and save it to the directory you
desire. It is a good idea to save your work after each board
space is edited.

Editing “Good News” & “Bad News” Cards
By clicking on “Good or Bad News,” you can edit the copy of these two sets of 12 game cards. Click on each card
that you wish to edit as seen in Figure 6 below.
Editing Play Money
By clicking in the space marked “Money” you can edit the design of the play money you will be using with your
game. You can change the name of the money and include a special image in the center oval of each
denomination. You could even scan a picture of yourself or a family member and make it your own cash!
If you intend to import a picture into the center oval of the money, best results are achieved with a 300 dpi Windows
Bitmap(BMP) or Jpeg (JPG) image that is taller than it is wide with some white border included around it.
Figure 7
Figure 6
Editing GameTokens
By clicking in the space marked “Tokens” you can edit each of the six game
tokens used in your game. You can edit the type on each token or you can
add an image to each. You cannot use both an image and type on the same
token label. There will be two labels printed for each token so that you can
adhere one to each side of the token.
Use this form to select and edit the
images for game tokens.

Each token can hold an image or
text, but not both.
Click on the token you wish to change.

#2
PRINTING GAME COMPONENTS
After you have completed the editing of your game, it is time to print the special labels and components that you will
use to make your game unique.
Game Board, Box Top & Game Token Labels
Your game board, box top and game tokens will be customized by printing a set of “peel & stick” labels using your
sheet-fed printer. After printing the labels, you will cut them out, remove the backing and stick each of them to the
proper places on the box, game board and tokens. To best keep track of the pieces as you output them, print them
in the order they appear in the “Print Your Own Opoly” box seen in Figure 8 on the previous page. To reach this box,
pull down the “File ” menu and click “Print.” All printing will be automatically sent to your Windows default printer,
unless you specify otherwise.
Start by clicking on the “Game Board, Box & Tokens” button, which will take you to the screen shown in Figure 9 on
the previous page.
Preparing to Print Special Labels
Clicking on the button for “Boxtop & Token Stickers” will activate the screen shown in Figure 10. This box will tell
you which piece of special paper to load into your printer. To test both your printer and the accuracy of your editing,
YOU SHOULD PRINT A TEST SHEET ON PLAIN PAPER BEFORE EACH USE OF THE SPECIAL PAPER
PROVIDED!
After printing your test sheet, load the first blank
white peel & stick label sheet as prompted by the
print box. Click OK to begin printing. When each job
is printed to the special paper, the word “DONE” will
appear next to that print job in the “Print Your
Own...” box.
Repeat the same procedure for the two remaining
peel & stick labels for the game board.

Next print the two property deed sheets by
following the same procedure as above, except
inserting a white card stock sheet for each. As
always, print a plain paper test sheet first!

Printing “Good & Bad News Cards”
Next print the “Good & Bad News” game card sheets by following the same procedure as above, except inserting
a colored card stock sheet for “Good News” and the other differently colored stock sheet for “Bad News.”
Remember again to always print a test sheet first.
Printing Play Money
The play money must be printed one denomination at a time on plain white paper. You will need at least 5 sheets of
each denomination in order to play the game, but print as much as you wish. It’s your money! (Note: Some color ink
jet printers that do not use a separate black ink can use a lot of ink to make money. Printers using four colors of ink
are generally more efficient.)
Printing the Instruction Sheet
Your last printing job is to output your game’s Instruction Sheet onto plain white paper. You will notice that the name
of your particular game will appear at the top.

CUTTING & PASTING THE FINAL PRODUCT
Applying Box, Game Board & Token Labels
Start with the three peel & stick label sheets. You will notice that there are
several labels printed on each sheet (see Figure 12 & 13.) Cut out each of them
by following the dotted lines. Try to leave the location of each label as you cut
(see Figure 14.)This will help you later to apply the labels in the correct spots.
Cut out all three label sheets in this manner. Try to keep them in a neat pile, so
they don’t get damaged before you apply them. Start with the box cover shown
in Figure 15.

Finishing the Box Top
The box top illustration shown in Figure 15 indicates the locations of each of your custom labels to be peeled &
then stuck to it. Starting with the “Box Top Title” label, neatly trim the label’s location away as shown in Figure
16.Then remove the backing material as seen in Figure 17. Carefully stick the label so as to cover the dotted line
area on the box top as seen in Figure 18. Repeat this process with the Titles, Subtitles on each of the 5 Figure
box panels.
14
Each of the box top labels should fit neatly into their respective areas, while completely
covering the lines printed below them. When you are finished with the box top, you will
still have several round labels left over. These remaining labels are for game tokens
and will be applied later.
Finishing the Game Board
X
BO
You will notice that the property space labels are grouped in threes to make your job a
little easier. Just match the values and colors. Take care to line up each group of three
properly so that you won’t make a mistake.

Figure 16
Using the same technique as for the box top, apply the two green TITLE & SUBTITLE
labels to the game board (see Figure 18A on the following page.)
Then apply the remaining labels to their respective spaces on the board. The three
corner spaces bear small guide marks. The labels are designed to just overlap these
marks. Use the marks as your guide to keep the labels straight.

Finishing the Game Tokens
The six customizable game tokens are a truly unique addition to Make Your Own Opoly. There will be two circular
labels printed for each piece. Carefully cut them out in pairs. Then peal and apply these sets to each side of each
token being careful to match both sides to each other. (See Figure 20 on page 4)
Finishing the Remaining Game Components
Use your scissors to cut out the Deed Cards. Good and Bad News Cards and the Play Money along the broken
lines. Try not to leave any of the lines on your finished pieces when you cut them out.
Step #5
ASSEMBLING THE FINAL PRODUCT
Finishing the Box Bottom
Neatly load all of the game components you have made into the game box with the folded game board being last.
Then place the box top on your one-of-a-kind board game creation, which is now complete!
CONGRATULATIONS!
