The conversation was taking place between two young cowboys who had fallen in with a bad guy who was planning a caper that involved killing two innocent people. Unable to sleep, one woke the other up and began trying to convince him to ride away with him and not be a part of the plan. His friend listened to him, considered it a few moments, and then lay back down, pulled his blanket up and turning away said, “A man can get used to things.” Neither of them left. How true that is. It is always easier to go along with things than it is to take a stand against something wrong. It is never easy to do what you know is right. It’s easier to turn a blind eye . . . a deaf ear. But each time you pull the blanket up and turn away it gets harder to ever take a stand. We soon find ourselves standing against things we know are right. We end up on the wrong side. Later in the movie, the marshal told the young cowboy who had tried to convince his friend to leave with him, “Son, you know that you’re going to end up dangling at the end of a rope, don’t you?” [long pause] “Yeah.” [short pause] “But a man gets used to things.” It’s true. It’s a trap. Don’t get used to sin. If you are in the wrong crowd, leave. Stand for what you know is right . . . even if it means you stand alone. -Ken Stegall W Announcements elcome to Woodland Oaks Church of Christ.
