A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE FROM PREACHER B Will you be like Mary this Christmas? Will you be like Joseph this Christmas? Will you be like the Shepherds this Christmas? Will you be like the Wise Men this Christmas? What role will you grow in this Christmas? MARY - "But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart." - Luke 2:19 JOSEPH - "When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife." - Matthew 1:24 SHEPHERDS - "The Shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told." - Luke 2:20 WISE MEN - "On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him." - Matthew 2:11a This Christmas might you be like Mary and take time to treasure up and ponder the reason for the season? Be sure to spend the extra moments thinking about who Christ was, what He has done and who we need to be in response. With the hustle and bustle of the season it is very easy to miss the truth of Christmas. Ponder and treasure this year. Be more like Mary! Bring a Christmas treat to share, and if you want to participate in the cookie swap, bring a dozen cookies. Those who signed up also need to bring the soap and bread for cheer bags. Joseph obeyed God's Word even though it wasn't popular, in fact, it might cost him everything to take a pregnant woman as his wife. Will you be willing to not only stand up for, but speak into the real meaning of this holiday? Will you obey Christ in worship and praise His name this Christmas season or will you follow simply get swallowed up in the worldly side of secular Christmas? Obey God's Word. Be more like Joseph! All ladies are welcome to attend, even if you haven’t been to a previous meeting. There was no way to keep those Shepherds quiet after the evening they had experienced. They returned cont. on page 2 EXCELLENCE IS EVIDENT IN ALL THINGS Our Mission Statement Brownstown Christian Church exists to: Seek and Save the Lost Strengthen the Saved Serve Others in Christ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ BCC Online! Christmas Gift of Love 2013 Christmas Gift of Love is an evening of fun festivities and a meal for a special group of children and their families. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, December 7 in the Fellowship Hall. Our theme is Happy Birthday, Jesus! Brian’s Briefs (cont. from page 1) There is still time to volunteer in the following areas to make this night possible: Registration, Decorations, Greeters/Ushers, Table Hosts, Gifts, Door Prizes, and Clean Up. Will you take time to worship Christ this Christmas? The wise men traveled a long distance, they went against the words of Herod all to experience a moment with the Christ. They not only gave of time, but offered up treasures to Him. This Christmas, will you take time out to worship and offer to Christ your heart and treasures? Intentional worship and treasures. Be more like the Wise Men! Check our website, Facebook page and Sunday bulletins for opportunities to sign up, or just contact the church office. And pray for the families that will attend, that our witness and the story of Christ’s birth will have a lasting impact on their lives. An Unexpected Christmas Sunday, December 15 9:15 am Sunday School classes will not meet so we can join together to hear our adult choir present “An Unexpected Christmas.” This music presentation will be about the simple birth of a baby boy...not really unexpected since it had been predicted long, long ago… but maybe not exactly how people expected it to happen. This will be simple, yet a celebration of the birth of our Savior in an unexpected placeand born to a simple young virgin (unexpected!) It will be a gift to those who come to hear...a gift of joy of the season and peace and good will to all! to "work" after encountering Christ with an attitude of glory and praise. Will you worship and praise the Christ whom you have encountered this Christmas? Sing and shout the meaning of this season. Be more like the Shepherds! Here at BCC we have intentionally planned special worship opportunities to encourage worship, growth and giving. Those special services include: the Adult Choir concert at 9:15 on Sunday, December 15th. The Christmas Eve worship service at 11 pm on Tuesday, December 24. "The Gift" series and worship experience each Sunday morning at 8 and 10:30 am through Christmas. Be sure to take time to be invested in these opportunities for worship. Christmas Eve Service Tuesday, December 24 11:00 pm A favorite here at BCC! This night that begins just an hour before Christmas tells the Christmas story in song, verse, instrumentals and in other special ways. There will also be a a children’s story, so they are very welcome to come-in their pajamas if you wish! An event for all ages, this is a great celebration for your friends and families to attend. Bringing in Christmas singing “Silent Night” by candlelight is mov- ing and a blessing to all. We’d love for you to join us this Christmas Eve! Sunday, January 19, 2014 5-7 pm The BCC edition of Iron Chef is designed to build the relationships between mothers and their sons in our church. The food the mothers and sons will be preparing is a surprise! Everyone will be cooking the same thing, but no one will know what it is until we begin the event. The mother and son teams will have to prepare a snack before hand (at home) that describes their relationship or who they are and bring it to the event. The snack can be anything you would like, but it cannot be baked or cooked. Happy Birthday! Mother/Son teams will present their snack as well as their surprise cooked item to a panel of judges that will rate them on creativity, preparation, quality and presentation. So be creative and have fun with the challenge! December 1 December 2 December 3 December 5 December 6 There will be short message by one of the ministers that will also focus on the motherson theme. Xstreme Christianity Brownstown Christian Church Children & Student Ministries December 2013 In this Issue: THIS ISUE - Music Review - WinterJam - Rock and Worship Road Show - NYE Party How many of these people can you name from this past ICYC? PpAaUuLl’Ss CcOoRrNnEeRr “It’s the holiday season!” “Happy holidays!” … That just doesn’t seem to do justice to a holiday that is ALL ABOUT JESUS’ birth. It’s the CHRISTMAS Season!!! A season where we take time to praise the fact that Jesus Christ, who is God, humbled Himself and was born to the virgin Mary. This was the point in time where God’s redemptive plan came to life… literally… here on Earth. In the Old Testament the prophets & writers tell us about how God will save us. They prophesied TONS of things about Jesus’ birth; everything from being born to a virgin, to where he would be born, to their flight to Egypt. What we celebrate during Christmas is that all of those prophecies finally came true. It is easy to lose focus during this Christmas season. We have to get gifts for what seems like a million people. We have to plan 2, 3, or 4 Christmas dinners. We are trying to schedule time to get the entire family home. The world tells us it’s time to go in debt again so that we can “have a great Christ- mas”. However, when it comes down to it, the only thing that truly matters during this holiday, is that we remember that Jesus’ birth was one more HUGE step in God’s plan to forgive our sins. Yes, it is a great time of year to be with your family. Yes, it is a great time to focus on others by giving gifts. Yes, it is a beautiful thing to be able to see all the lights on our houses. But don’t forget to focus on Jesus’ birth and what it means!! I challenge your family to read the entire Christmas story (aka: birth narrative) in all of the Gospels. It will be a great tradition to begin, or continue, with your children!! Merry Christmas everyone!!!
