***Staff Member of the Month***
The Beal City Board of Education, in appreciation of the hard work that is done by all staff members of Beal City Public Schools, would like to honor a staff member each month for their service to
the students and community of Beal City. This
month’s honoree is Tami Wilson.
Tami has been a huge addition to our team of drivers and is always ready to help with
any driver need we have. Tammy has a great attitude even when she has some rough days
on the bus and we appreciate her attitude and demeanor. Thank you Tami for all you do and
continue to do.
Feature Staff Person
Beal City Schools would like to introduce
Teri Cramlet as our new elementary para-pro. Teri
graduated from Shepherd Public Schools in 2005
and CMU in 2011 with a BAA in Parks and Recreation. Terri married her husband, Eric in 2008 and
they have a 2 ½ year old son Henderson who loves
dinosaurs. Eric is a very caring guy who works at
the Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant and eventually wants to work for hospice.
Terri loves to sew. She can’t read patterns
so she just looks at them and makes it up. She also
loves basketball and volleyball. Terri has only
been out of the country once and that was to Mexico where her husband popped the question.
Growing up, their family vacations were always by
car so she has been to a lot of places in the United
States.
We are very excited to have Teri working
here at Beal City Schools. Welcome Teri!!
5th & 6th graders raising salmon
The 5th and 6th grade student have been raising Salmon in the classroom since November. The
Salmon were donated by the DNR and were collected from the Platte River Fish Hatchery in Beulah, MI. The Salmon will go through 5 stages of development
1. Green Eggs
2. Eged Eggs
3. Sac Fry
4. Swim-up Fry
5. Smolt
Shorty after the salmon reach the smolt stage, the sixth grade students will release the fish at
camp. We will release the salmon in the Jordan River, which is in Antrim County. This is a great
educational experience for the kids.
ProtectMIChild Child Protection Registry
The State of Michigan offers a free program to stop
adult advertisements from reaching e-mails, mobile
phones (text messaging ads), and instant messenger
IDs. The Michigan Child Protection Registry, created
by the Michigan State Legislature in 2004, allows
Michigan schools and families to protect their students from receiving adult-oriented messages and
can be located at www.ProtectMiChild.com. Regisry can include family addresses for adults, children, and school domains. Beal City Public
Schools has already added all school-provided student and staff email addresses to the registry. We encourage parents to visit the registry to add family email addresses and mobile
phone numbers. If you'd like to view this article online you can find it at bealcityschools.net > departments -> technology.
THE BCEF - SAT & ACT TEST PREP SESSIONS
It is that time of year again! Time to start thinking about the SAT and ACT tests! The
Beal City Education Foundation (BCEF) and the Beal City Education Association
(BCEA) will be hosting study sessions for Beal City students to prepare for the tests.
The Study sessions will start in early February and will be Saturday mornings from 911 and Sunday nights from 6-8, watch the announcements for the first dates. There
will be sign up sheets in the high school office, or on the door to the high school
office. If we don’t have students signed up to study by Friday at 3 pm, we will not
open the computer lab. We will post on the BCEF Facebook page if the study
session is CLOSED. If the study session is going to be available, we will either not
post anything or put a reminder on the Facebook page. In the case of bad weather,
we will make the decision in plenty of time on Sunday’s, but on Saturday mornings,
no decisions will be made until about 8 am. Please use your best judgement in
sending your kids on the roads. This year, we will be setting up some sample tests,
not just having your children come in and study on their own, we are still
coordinating this with the BCEA. Not every study session will be practice tests
administered by the BCEF or BCEA, we will let the students know when those
“sample” tests will be, watch the announcements.
Last year the BCEF encouraged the students to participate by giving each student a
ticket for each hour spent in a BCEF/BCEA sponsored study session. The tickets
were then put into a drawing for an iPad mini. The more time spent in study
sessions, the more opportunities to win. The prize or prizes to be awarded this year
have not yet been determined. We have decided it will not be an iPad, sorry.
However, we do encourage you to attend as many study sessions as possible to help
increase your score on the SAT and/or ACT test.
The higher your SAT score is, the better chance you have of getting scholarships and
in many colleges you can get scholarships automatically if your SAT score is high
enough. Every college is different, but this score can be worth thousands of dollars
over your 4 year college career, just think a $2,500 or more scholarship every year
for four years, it’s possible! So, take a few hours out of your schedule, four hours a
week, for a couple months could be worth a part time job in college if you can get a
high enough SAT score! Hope to see you there!
Santa’s Secret Shop
There were lots of Santa’s elves scurrying around the small gym making last
minute purchases on December 10th. Students were clutching many lists and
checking them twice with the help of our terrific PTA. We appreciate the PTA providing the
gift items and volunteers to assist students with making these very special purchases.
HOLIDAY SING PROGRAM IS A HIT!
A capacity crowd filled the Elementary gym for the annual holiday program on Friday,
December 18th. Prior to the program, the Elementary school hosted our semi-annual Senior Citizens Reception. Community members were able to warm up with a cup of coffee
and enjoy a variety of cookies and treats. A big thanks to our PTA for their assistance with
setting up, serving, the delicious cookies for our guests. We also appreciate all the wonderful parents that baked the delicious treats we enjoyed. Our thanks also goes out to
Mrs. Amy Sharrar, and the Elementary staff for an outstanding performance! And most of
all, we would like to give a big THANK YOU to all of our students for putting on such a
wonderful holiday program, showcasing their great musical and acting talents. Great Job
Kids!!
Mayes Elementary
November Students’ of the Month

Haylee Long (5th Grade) daughter of Nikki Schafer, Joey Federico (3rd Grade) son of
Bill Federico. Front Row (L-R) Ryan Gross (Kdg.) son of Brad and Jodi Gross,
Cuyler Smith (1st Grade) song of Ann and Rick Smith, and Johanna Hubble (2nd

Kids Care Drive a Success
For the third year in a row, our Elementary students took part in spreading holiday cheer
to the less fortunate in our community. In lieu of exchanging Christmas gifts with classmates, the students collected personal care products. These products were then delivered to the Isabella County Community Food Pantry to be redistributed to families in our
area. The response was once again overwhelming.
Start the Day (and the Year) Right!
Make giving your kids a healthy breakfast every day one of your
New Year’s resolutions.
If you don’t have much time in the morning or your kids aren’t hungry when they wake up, send
them to school for breakfast. Healthy food choices are available every morning in the cafeteria
for ALL students. We cannot wait to see them there!
Help your kids to make this semester a success - encourage them to eat breakfast!
Every morning our breakfast consists of these whole grain items: assorted pop tarts,
muffins, uncrustables, donuts, cereal, yogurt, juice, cheese stick and milk. Students must
choose a fruit and 2 grain items.
Location: Aggie Cafeteria
Breakfast time every day: 7:40-8:05
Full pay price: $1.30
Reduced: $.30
Remember, no breakfast will be served if we have a delay.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Kitchen and Paraprofessional subs needed
Beal City Public Schools is looking for kitchen and Paraprofessional subs. All kitchen and
paraprofessional subs will be paid by a third party management company but will be called by our staff
to cover regular staff when they need time off. We have a need for substitutes on a regular basis. Also,
when full time positions open substitutes are often first in line if interested in full time work. Please
contact Marci Faber at 644-3901 to get more information on subbing in the kitchen. Please contact
Melissa Hall at 644-2740 to get more information on subbing as a paraprofessional in the elementary.

Schedules are subject to change
As a reminder to all parents, the transportation department has a three day in advance bus pass
policy. Any change in destination after school must be submitted in writing, 3 days prior to the change,
pending building principal/transportation approval. No student(s) will be allowed to ride a different bus
or get off at a different location without a bus pass signed by the parent and submitted 3 days in advance.
Bus passes are allowed for the following reasons and no exceptions will be made:

Daycare/childcare issue (Meaning children under the fourth grade will not have care at normal
stop requiring them to get dropped off elsewhere)
Also to remind parents that for any student(s) being dropped off under the fourth grade a parent or
guardian must be present and visible at the stop or the student(s) will be kept on the bus and brought
back to the school. At that time the parents will be required to come to the school and get them.
If you have any questions please call Mr. McDonald in the transportation office at (989) 644-3901

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
ENCOURAGE, TEACH, SUPPORT-- Ways parents can encourage their children to do well in school
SENSE OF BELONGING: This is number one. Children need to feel they are a needed member of a
group. Do things together as a family, and enroll the kids in after-school activities. Kids want to go to
school, and see the value in school when they have a feeling of community, both at home and at
school.
KIDS NEED HEROES: Children need one or two respectful, supportive people in their lives that
they can look up to and admire and who influence their lives for the better. How about Mom and
Dad?
SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOMPLISHMENT: It's very important in the encouragement of
children to recognize and appreciate the small steps children make daily, as well as the accomplishments of the larger goals they've achieved.
FUN AND EXCITEMENT: Keep learning exciting. Send kids off to school in the mornings with a hug
and kiss and a word of encouragement, instead of a negative, nagging, parental lecture on what
they've done wrong. Enjoyment and fun in the learning process keeps kids coming back for more.
CURIOSITY AND CREATIVITY: Keep the wonders of childhood discovery, inquisitiveness and enthusiasm alive. Nourish and participate in the joy of learning that kids are born with.
INSTILLING A SENSE OF ADVENTURE: Adventure is what childhood is all about. Supporting children in healthy risk-taking and learning from their successes and failures keeps learning exciting
and relevant for children.
LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY: The ability to make wise decisions in one's life and
to accept the consequences are skills children need to learn. Teach kids how to make wise
choices in life, so they're able to grow in their personal responsibility.
CONFIDENCE TO TAKE ACTION: Exuding self-confidence shows kids how to have confidence in themselves. Show that you have confidence in your child's ability to be successful.
Self-confidence and self-respect go hand in hand with setting and achieving one's goals.
Believing and participating in our children and their success is something all parents can
begin today and practice
