I would like to begin with wishing everyone a happy belated Easter. I
cannot believe how early it was this year. Please be sure to check
out page three, Easter Hallelujah, as our very own resident, Tim
Zechiel, wrote the words and he and his family sang with Wauneta
and Friends performance on Saturday, March 19. I am sorry I missed
that. Thank you, Tim, for sharing.
I would like to remind everyone of our April Open House on SaturNatasha Graves, Mgr.

IF YOU HAVE TO. EXTINGUISH THE FIRE ONLY IF YOU HAVE A FIRE
EXTINGUISHER AND FEEL COMFORTABLE USING THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER.
DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE NEAREST FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS LOCATED IN

March Madness Update

The madness continues! March certainly had the upsets and surprises. In total, I received 10 brackets. Michigan
State’s loss forced five brackets out from the first set! The remaining five have the following winning the NCAA
Championship: one for Oregon, one for Oklahoma, and three for Kansas.
Now that we are down to the final four; Villanova, Oklahoma, Syracuse, and University of North Carolina, only one
person is in it to win it.
Good Luck to all! The final four played on Saturday, April 2, and the Championship game will be on Monday, April 4.
Please look through the paper in the library for the time.

It is time again for absentee voting. The Adams County Travel Board will be here on Wednesday, April 27.
Please see Natasha if you need to register at this address and to receive your application for voting absentee.
Fort Wayne Audiology will be here on Thursday, April 7 to do hearing aid checks and clean batteries from 24 p.m. in the lobby conference room.
Travelogue: St. Lucia
St. Lucia is a tiny island with astonishing wealth.
At 238 square miles, with a population of about
184,000, the island boasts an amazing $1.37 billion annual income—all from tourism.
The Island is part of the Lesser Antilles, lying in the eastern Caribbean and boarding the Atlantic Ocean. St. Lucia was
formed by volcanic action, but there hasn't been an eruption since the 1800s. From a distance the twin volcanic mountains– the Grand Pitons—easily identify the island.
One of the volcanoes is known as the world’s only “drive-in” volcano. A road leads to the summit where one will find rich
sulfur springs, hot springs, and mud baths.
The island has sprawling beaches and lush forests along crystal-clear waters. All of its fine features make it a popular
vacation spot and the name is well known around the world.
Perhaps the most moving sight is the whale and dolphin migration. As our birds migrate to seasonally-better climate and
then return home, so do the dolphins and whales. If you’re there at the right time, you may be treated to the thrilling sight
of thousands of the magnificent creatures breaking water for miles around. If you’d care to see video recordings of the
event, just ask me.

the cause of “progress” and find themselves outwitted at every turn by the determined boys and girl.
Saturday, April 23 and Monday, April 25 “Star Trek”
On April 23 & 25 join Captain Kirk, Spock and the crew of the Enterprise as they explore the extremes
of outer space, boldly going where no man has gone before. Star Trek has been a perennial favorite in
films as well as TV series for decades.

Bible Corner
“I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I, the Lord, have
spoken it...And I will make them and the places around about my hill a blessing; and I will
cause the shower to come down in His season; there shall be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel
34:24 and 34:26.
We have often heard the saying “April showers bring May flowers” and I am looking forward to
those showers and flowers and I am also praying for God’s showers of blessings, so I want to
see what He has to say about them. Of course, there is a large difference between the blessings that God is talking about and the April showers, then, on the
other hand, there are large similarities. What we really need to remember is that God has
complete control over all things in Heaven and Earth.
“Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My
doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distill as the dew, as the small rain upon the
tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass.” Deuteronomy 32:1 and 32:2. “Thou [God]
waterest the ridges abundantly: thou settles the furrows thereof:” Psalms 65:10. In these
passages, God is recognized as the source of all physical blessings and that they are controlled by Him.
The God of all creation is in control and nothing can ever change that! Therefore, it is wisdom to trust in his almighty hand for all of our needs. Large portions of our country have been experiencing drought for a
couple of years now and, from what we can see at this point, it looks like it will continue this year. We were in Colorado
recently and they were saying on the ski slopes that they are 10 feet behind in snowfall this year, which, if more does not
come, will severely damage the water supply out on the plains below. So are we praying for showers of blessing, both
physical and spiritual, or are we just hoping they will come? Zachariah 10:1 says, “Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of
the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.”
A song writer wrote, “There shall be showers of blessing, sent from the Savior above; there shall be seasons refreshing;
this is the promise of love.” All of that depending upon our asking in “true faith.”

Dear Son,
I’m writing this slow ‘cause I know you can’t read fast.
We don’t live where we did when you left. Your dad read in the paper where most accidents happened within twenty
miles of home, so we moved. I won’t be able to send you the address ‘cause the last Indiana family that lived here took
the numbers with them for their next house so they wouldn’t have to change their address. This place has a washing
machine. The first day I put in four shirts in it, pulled the chain, and haven’t seen’em since. It rained twice this week,
three days the first time and four days the second time.
The coat you wanted me to send you, your Aunt Sue said it would be a little heavy to send in the mail with them heavy
buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pockets. We got a bill from the funeral home, said if we didn’t make the
last payment on Grandma’s funeral, up she comes. About your father-— he has a lovely new job. He has over 500 men
under him. He is cutting grass in the cemetery.
About your sister—- she had a baby this morning. I haven’t found out whether it is a boy or a girl, so don’t know if you’re
an aunt or an uncle.
Your Uncle John fell in the whisky vat. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off playfully, so he drowned.
We cremated him; he burned for three days.
Three of your friends went off the bridge in a pickup, one was driving, the other two were in back. The driver got out. He
rolled down the window and swam to safety. The other tow drowned. They couldn’t get the tailgate down.
Not much new this time, nothing much has happened. Write more often.

Just a reminder, please check with Barbara Litterer before donating books or magazines to the library. We are overflowing with magazines. Please recycle last year’s magazines, for we don’t have room to store them. Most patrons of the
library are reading larger and large-print paperback books. Residents find them easier to read and lighter in weight. Don’t
forget that each month, we receive eight new paperbacks, the Reader’s Digest, and the Reader’s Digest condense novels in either larger or large print as well as magazines on just about everything.
What’s Up?

Signs of spring are evident everywhere. The daffodils, irises, day lilies, and surprise lilies have their leaves growing inch
by inch every day. The early daffodils are already blooming. Last year, the first daffodils were seen in the second week
of April; so were the forsythia bushes blooming at that time. Other signs of spring are reports of the deer grazing in open
areas during the early mornings and at dusk. There has been a report that a turkey made its appearance, too. I was
asked if turkeys migrate. The answer is that they are year-round residents. Turkeys eat nuts, seeds, fruits, insects, and
salamanders. Wild turkeys can lay four to 17 eggs and feed the chicks for only a few days after they hatch. After that, the
chicks fend for themselves. The male turkey is the one that fans its tail and has the large red wattle.

On Saturday, April 2, we will leave at 10:30 a.m. for lunch at Rise-N-Roll Bakery in Fort Wayne.
On Tuesday, April 5, we will enjoy afternoon tea at 2:30 p.m. in Porter Auditorium.
On Wednesday, April 6, we will celebrate birthdays at 11 a.m. in the dining room followed by bingo in the basement at
12:30 p.m.
On Friday, April 8, we will leave at 10:30 a.m. for Mary’s A & W Root Beer stand in Delphos, Ohio. This trip was rescheduled due to weather.
On Saturdays, April 9 and 23, we will have breakfast club in the mall hall at 8:30 a.m.
On Tuesdays, April 12 and 26, we will leave at 2 p.m. for shopping at Kroger and Dollar
Tree.
On Thursday, April, 14, we will leave at 11 a.m. for Mi Casa Mexican restaurant in Ossian.
On Saturday, April 16, we will leave at 10:30 a.m. for lunch at the German restaurant in
Huntington called The Berg Ale Haus. The restaurant was featured in a February issue of
the Journal Gazette.
On Tuesday, April 19, we will leave at 2:30 p.m. for the first of the season Country Cruise
and stop for ice cream.
On Wednesday, April 20, we will leave at 11 a.m. for lunch at COCO China Buffet in Bluffton.
On Thursday, April 21, we will have Craft of the Month at 2:30 p.m. in the mall hall. We
are making paper Hyacinth flowers, pictured right.
On Friday, April 22, we will leave at 2 p.m. for Walmart shopping.
On Thursday, April 28, we will leave at 10:30 a.m. for lunch at The Factory in Fort Wayne followed by shopping Glenbrook Mall.
On Saturday, April 30, we will leave for lunch at 11 a.m. at East of Chicago Pizza in Berne. At 2 p.m. Wauneta and
Friends and Esther Mowery will be performing in Porter Auditorium.

A great time was had by all at our annual St. Patrick's Day Party. Dave Blackwell and Donna Longbons performed their St. Patrick’s Day program
and did a fantastic job! They will be invited back
soon!
A big thank you to the dietary department for our
delicious food that day: a beautiful fruit tray,
cheese ball and crackers, green cake with white
frosting and green lemonade.
